Make your cuticles appealing by stopping that peeling for good!
Peeling cuticles is the last thing anybody wants when they look down at their nails. Not only can they look unsightly, they can also be quite painful – particularly when you’re tempted to bite down or yank on them (trust us – it’s never worth the temptation!).
Just like the rest of your body, your cuticles need and yearn for hydration. When they do not get this hydration they start to dry up and peel.
But there are ways to deal with pesky peeling cuticles which, you’ll be glad to hear, have nothing to do with your teeth! All you need is to show your hands the TLC they need and deserve!
Give them some hydration!
The human body can barely go for a week without hydration, so don’t be surprised when your cuticles start to peel when they’ve gone through months and months of minimal to no hydration. You might be sat there feeling assured by the fact you use hand cream morning, noon and night. But, sorry to break it to you, this is not good enough for your cuticles! This is because most hand creams will evaporate before they even begin to penetrate the cuticle area. In fact, the only thing that can penetrate the cuticle area fully are oil-based products.
The good news is there are plenty of cuticle oils out there on the market, or, if you’re feeling creative, you could even concoct your own! In fact, something as simple as grabbing a bottle of olive oil from the kitchen and applying it to your cuticles can efficiently moisturize them! If you want to go a step further, think about mixing that olive oil with hand cream and some lavender oil to create your own homemade cuticle treatment.
If you’re looking for a treatment whose ingredients stretch further than your kitchen, you’ll be glad to hear there are alternatives available!
For example, if you purchase some petroleum jelly and apply it to your hands, you’ll soon notice your cuticles appearing more nourished and softer. What’s more, the petroleum jelly will also protect your hands from the environment, which means winter coming does not have to signify an increase in dry skin and peeling cuticles!
Or, essential oils that might already be a core part of your beauty routine can be applied to your cuticles leaving them moisturized and smelling great! We would recommend jojoba oil, sesame oil, lavender oil and lemon oil in particular. Be wary that, particularly if you have sensitive skin, you may need to dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil such as olive oil, grapeseed oil or coconut oil.
Our final and favourite moisturizer for your cuticles couldn’t be handier! That lip balm you carry around with you every day isn’t just for your lips! You can apply lip balm to your cuticles to provide some immediate hydration and leave your cuticles as soft and smooth as your lips!
Cut them correctly
The first thing to get clear is cutting cuticles correctly never involves your fingers or teeth! With a pair of scissors or custom bought cuticle trimmers you can carefully cut off peeling cuticles. Just make sure that you only trim the sides and always leave some cuticle remaining so that your nail has a barrier against any infections
Apply some hot wax
We wouldn’t recommend you trying this one at home. If you can and want to most nail salons will offer hot wax treatments. In the treatment a cream or oil will be applied to your hands, shortly followed by melted paraffin wax. This wax will be left on your hands for up to 15 minutes and once removed not only will your hands feel smoother and stronger, but any peeling cuticles will be swept away.
Let’s chat hair color!
What is a hair toner? A toner is a semi or demi permanent hair color that either adds or neutralizes tone in your hair- that’s where the word toner comes from. As a colorist, I use a toner on 99% of my blondes. A problem I’ve run into in the past is a new client telling me they do NOT want a toner or that they’ve been told they’re only for fixing mistakes! Let’s pause here. Without a toner your hair color will be what I call “raw blonde” aka whatever your color wants to lift to on its own. This can include uneven color from previous touch ups, or yellow or orange undertones that our hair naturally has. A toner is my weapon to help combat these uneven tones and leave your hair as our desired result. So- next time your stylist uses a toner you can ask, what color are we enhancing today?! The answer might surprise you! Xo
ABH Dipbrow Dupe!
For the longest time I’ve always stuck with my Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade!! And while the product itself is amazing, I randomly picked out this pomade by elf out of curiosity and fell in love!!! This is seriously a game changer if you use pomade for your everyday brows and want to save some extra cash!! The e.l.f. - Lock on Liner and Brow Cream is for One, easy to use Secondly dries down so nice, (I don’t worry if I accidentally wiped off a piece of my brow Lol). And best of all it’s literally $2!! I use the shade “Medium Brown” and find this blends really nice with black hair! Unfortunately my only con is that the product doesn’t have that many shades especially compared to Anastasia. I provided a photo of how I normally do my brows with this product for anyone wondering! Overall this is a great affordable pomade alternative! What products do you use for your brows?
Glass skin? Uhm YES!
This mist is so fun to use. You can use it with makeup or on its own! I tend to use it on bare skin for a natural glowing look. It is a fine mist that moisturizes, nourishes and helps fight damage. It also helps fight irritation and calm the skin. I will be posting a video a little later of me using this before makeup application! Makeup glides on after using this to prep the skin. What’s in it: peach extract Hyaluronic acid Reishi mushroom lotus extract cica ceramides much more! This product has so many awesome ingredients, it’s hard not to love! PEACH & LILY - Glass Skin Veil Mist I will give this a 5/5! Pros: can be used to refresh makeup can be used on bare skin hydrating calming gives a wonderful dewy glow smells nice Cons: $30 for a mist is a bit pricey but this mist does so much in return 💞 let me know a mist you love!
Dutch Braid Upstyle💗
My absolute favorite hairstyle is anything with a Dutch braid! This hairstyle is so simple yeah it’s so cute… Here’s how you do it: ✨ take a small section of hair by your forehead and start your Dutch braid doing your outside pieces of hair underneath your middle piece and alternate which side you grab a piece of hair from ✨ continue that till you get to the top of your ear ✨ use texture spray on your braid so it will help with fluffing it out...I use AIIR - Texture Spray ✨ Pull on each loop of the braid to make it as fluffy as possible ✨ elastic the braid ✨ take a small section from either side of your head and elastic that into a half up style ✨ take a cute clip and clip it to the elastic That’s it y’all! So easy and so cute!! Give this a try💗 Xo Johanna
First Aid Beauty Moisturizer: the winter winner!
Winter is approaching! That means dry and cold air will be hitting your skin hard every time you go out which as we all know will unfortunately translate into skin redness, dryness and itchiness. This is why having a heavy soothing moisturizer with the RIGHT ingredients becomes an essential. I present you the love of my life... the Fist aid Beauty Moisturizer.FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer What makes it different? This moisturizer does contain all the classic ingredients every moisturizer needs aka glycerins, humectants and fatty alcohols yet it takes it a step forward by adding 4 hero ingredients: ceramides, green tea and fever few extract and squalene. Ceramides are lipids that form the skin barrier and help retain moisture. Without the proper amount of ceramides the skin becomes red irritated and extremely dry! It’s beneficial therefore to use skincare products with ceramides such as this one... especially in the winter. Green tea and fever few extract are famous for their anti inflammatory purposes which will help reduce irritation, redness and swelling again great to help tackle those winter air side effects. Lastly squalene not only has the same anti inflammatory properties as the two ingredients stated above but also has antioxidant benefits! Therefore it will be able to protect your skin from pollution and environmental stressors through the day. Making this a great moisturizer both for the day and for the night time. What was my experience? I’ve been using this moisturizer every morning for the past 6 weeks, keep in mind I have oily acne prone skin (so I tend to experience a lot of redness caused by the acne) and I have surface dryness due to all the active treatments I use including tretinoin! This means i need a moisturizer that’s quite thick, has soothing properties but doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin or breaks me out. This moisturizer is exactly that. Over the course of the first week of using this moisturizer I could already visibly see improvements in my skin! What’s the verdict? The first aid beauty moisturizer has quickly crawled its way up to my top three of all time favorite hydrators. I think everyone no matter their skin type or skin concerns will definitely benefit from this! If you are looking to reduce your redness, protect and moisturize your skin and keep your glow through the winter this is for you!
