10 Cogent Measures to Prevent Nail Ridges
Ridges – the stains on hands beauty, and these can reveal a lot of information about food intake and lifestyle of a person. The range of logical information could be perceived, from stress to other medical problems, like lungs, kidney infection, or disorder or maybe thyroid issues.
So, one of these could be the most likely root cause of your nail ridges whether its vertical or horizontal.
It is medically declared that Vertical ridges appear due to aging. Like wrinkles on the other body parts, people can have it on nails too. The production of natural oil slows down in your body as you grow old. Subsequently, moisturizing deficiency causes ridges to form (in the form of eczema or psoriasis painful conditions). This dryness affect your skin and hair too.
Horizontal nail ridges are not much common but truly acute. According to most experts, if these occur on one of the nails, then has possibly appeared due to trauma. It starts from the nail matric (the exact place from where nails start to grow). When any heavy object falls on the nail or the finger gets caught in the door then these horizontal ridges are bound to appear.
So here are some home treatments to get rid of ridges in nails.
Avoid ridges by using nails strengthening foods:
1. Nails are made up of protein, so the body needs enough intake of proteins to help in building a strong body. Taking proteins from chicken and beef meat can empower your nails.
2. Moreover, (seemingly delicious) fruits with antioxidants properties, particularly blueberries – which feature the highest antioxidants, can help to encounter the radical damages which inflame stress hormones in the body. And this impacts all cells in the body including cells of hairs and nails. Besides, strawberries, kiwis which contain vitamin C, can help the production of collagen, which makes nails naturally more resilient.
3. To keep nails strong and protected, vegetables can be a great source of vitamins, therefore, one should drag bell peppers along with some tomatoes and spinach in a bowl of salad, and eat it calmly. This practice can give a boost to the collagen level. Whereas, potatoes and carrots which have vitamin A, are good to have for the sake of antioxidants.
4. A hefty dose of powerful and healthy fats can feed nails with needed food to make them healthier. For instance, most registered dietitians, vividly speak about the importance of taking almonds and nuts – as they are full of protein and magnesium. So if you are having vertical ridges, then these dry fruits can do your great to revive ridge nails.
5. Milk - is loaded with calcium and vitamin D which are key to grow healthy nails.
6. Vitamin D – the protein content of Eggs, in whatever cooked shape. They are a powerhouse of nutrients because these contain B12, Vitamin A and E, Iron, the most significant one is – Biotin. The use of Vitamin D gives impressive results, by giving thickness to nails and gradually eliminating ridges, splits and brittleness of nails.
Other possible measures to wipe out nail ridges:
7. Keep your hands hydrated with ointments.
Donna Hart, MD, board-certified dermatologist in Texas strongly suggests to apply ointments (which features ceramides, or Alpha hydroxyl acids) to moisturize your hands, she suggests using oil and cream on hands to keep them hydrated because ridges appear normally due to dehydration.
8. First, get treatment for any underlying disease.
Nails ridges often get their home in nails due to other underlying health issues, like the problem in the lungs or kidneys. For example, most diabetes patients experience ridges, especially in the vertical direction.
9. Keep your nails clean.
Clipping your nails is very important to prevent nail traumas, but do not overdo it. Using a quality clipper, trim nails when there is visible white and do not go too low to trim white area completely.
10. Limit your water exposure.
Use water only to the extent of your serious need because washing your hands too often can eliminate the natural oil or even it can cause eczema, which is a serious condition of ridges.
The ridges in nails can mean underlying health issues such as deficiencies and diabetes. It should be taken as a warning from the body. In such situations, it is recommended to run the home remedies to improve nail health. If the condition doesn’t change significantly then a visit to the dermatologist is suggested.
Retinol use for beginners from an Esthetician!
If you’re ever wondering how to start using retinol, this is for you! I want to start off by saying that if you’re interested in using retinol you must wear sunscreen daily. If you know you’re never going to wear it PLEASE do not use retinol. With that being said, let’s start off by explaining what retinol is and what it does for you! Retinol is Vitamin A! There are many types of retinol, like retinoids, retinol esters, etc. These are all derivatives of Vitamin A, and are more gentle and less potent versions of pure retinol. Retinol helps speed up our cell turn over rate in our skin. What that means, is that it will help you shed your dead skin cells faster to reveal new skin that’s brighter, smoother and healthier! As we get older, our “cell turnover rate” (CTR) slows down. So we use products like retinol to keep speeding it up so we can stay younger longer! Most people know retinol for treating fine lines and wrinkles, but it’s actually incredible for treating acne and acne scars! This is what I personally use it for. Retinol is strong and acts as an exfoliant so you must be careful with what products you’re using along with it in your regimen. Don’t layer or mix Vit C and retinol as they don’t like each other! Retinol should ONLY be applied at nighttime never in the morning. It makes you photosensitive which is a term to describe sensitivity to the sun. Most people experience some purging in acne, peeling/dryness, redness/irritation, and burning sensations when using a high dose of retinol without buffering it properly. If you use my buffering method properly you will not experience that at all! Now that you understand what you’re putting on your skin, I will explain how to use it! You shouldn’t start retinol by just applying it straight onto your skin without ever using it before. Your skin has to adjust to this new product and should be incorporated gently and slowly. It takes a month for your skin to adjust. You want to buffer your retinol with a gentle moisturizer. Nothing with actives like exfoliants (AHAs or BHAs)! Retinol goes after serums and before moisturizer in your routine! Week 1: use your retinol maximum 2x weekly. Start with one pea size amount of retinol and buffer it with 3 parts of moisturizer! Mix & apply to your skin! Week 2: use your retinol maximum 3x weekly. You’re going to do equal parts retinol and moisturizer. 2 parts retinol and 2 parts moisturizer. Mix & apply to your skin! Week 3: use your retinol maximum 3x weekly. Use 3 parts retinol (equal to a pea size) and 1 part moisturizer. Mix & apply to your skin! Week 4: use your retinol maximum 4x weekly. Apply a pea size amount of retinol directly onto your skin! Then apply your moisturizer directly on top of the retinol! If your skin cant handle retinol alone then stick to the buffering method forever! It will be just as effective as applying it alone! This method will minimize purging and keep your barrier healthy! Hope this helped! ❤️COSRX - Propolis Light Cream
🎯Ingrown hairs—these two little words conjure🎯
In our quest for smooth, stubble-free skin, ingrown hairs are an annoyance at best and cause for concern at worst (trust me- you don't want to see what they look like when they get infected)🤐 The cause of ingrown hairs isn't complicated. Simply put, when your hair starts to grow, sometimes it curls inward and gets trapped back under the surface of your skin. This can happen because dead skin cells clog up your hair follicle (so always, always exfoliate), but ingrowns also exist just because of your hair's natural growth pattern—so, unfortunately, those with curly hair may suffer the most! Aspirin-Honey Treatment This recipe is a double whammy. Not only does aspirin naturally contain salicylic acid, but honey also has antibacterial properties, which can help reduce the possibility of inflammation and infection. 🔎Ingredients: 3 uncoated aspirin tablets 1 tsp. honey 1/2 to 1 tsp. water or oil Directions: Add warm water or oil to a bowl Add honey Crush aspirin tablets Mix together Leave mask on for 10 minutes Wipe off entirely with warm water Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub Coconut oil, for example, is hydrating, keeps skin moisturized, and reduces inflammation.4 It's basically our winter skin savior. Mix it with raw sugar and you've got a winner. You can use this scrub daily until you see an improvement, and then you can switch to two to three times a week. Just be careful that the scrub isn't too abrasive. 🔎Ingredients: 1 cup of raw sugar 1/2 cup of coconut oil 10 drops of tea tree oil, or your preferred essential oil Directions: Combine sugar and coconut oil in a bowl Add in essential oil Mix together Apply and then rinse using warm water Dry with a clean towel Baking Soda and Oatmeal Treatment I am huge fan of baking soda and how amazing this ingredient is! And rediciliously cheap. Baking soda, which is a great exfoliator, helps reduce and prevent ingrown hairs. Oatmeal has a soothing effect, reducing redness and irritation caused by exfoliation. 🔎Ingredients: 1 tbsp. baking soda 1 cup of water 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal Directions: Mix baking soda and oatmeal together Add water to the bowl Stir until it has a paste-like texture Using a cotton pad, scoop up the mixture Apply to the affected area and let sit for 10 minutes Rinse with warm water Oil-Based Serum if you're particularly sensitive, it's best to avoid overly harsh scrubs. Abrasive scrubs like sugar and salt scrubs do exfoliate the skin but often at the expense of causing excess skin irritation 🔎Ingredients: 1 tbsp. castor oil 1 tbsp. hemp oil (optional) 10 drops tea tree oil Directions: Find a reusable glass bottle Combine castor oil and hemp oil Add tea tree oil to mix Apply combination after shaving to prevent irritation alba BOTANICA - Acne Dote, Face & Body Scrub Oil-Free CeraVe - SA Moisturizing Cream For Rough & Bumpy Skin GLYTONE - KP Kit Amlactin - Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion
Skincare Products ( that i have been LOVING )
Recently, I have been super into skincare and keeping up with my skin’s appearance as I am growing myself in the beauty industry ( meaning that I am now CONSTANTLY doing makeup on myself! ) Fluff and Starface both sent me these products to try out, and I have been LOVING them so far! I have combination skin, and this routine is PERFECT for me! My new three favorite skincare products that I have been enjoying as of lately are 1) FLUFF - Face Oil #1 , which is 100% jojoba oil, which I used as an all natural makeup remover! Jojoba oil is super moisturizing and amazing for literally all skin types- especially acne prone and sensitive skin! 2) FLUFF cleanser , which is again - all natural - containing jojoba oil, hemp seed oil (which moisturizes without clogging pores, and balances out oily skin), ashwagandha root (which stimulates production of natural skin oils), and aloe vera (which reduces blemishes and acne, as well as lightens blemishes on the face). This cleanser does a great job of removing makeup as well as leaving you skin moisturized and soft! 3) STARFACE Moisture on Mars Hydrating Face Cream! A little bit of this product really goes a long way, leaving your face super soft, hydrated, and all with a SERIOUS glow!!! I highly recommend checking these 3 products all out! They all work great separately, but in my opinion as I have been using them cohesively, my skin has been looking and feeling great ( besides that one pimple 🙄 ). xx Isabelle
Full Face Using Products from Nov Boxy Premium✨
Hey Cherie Fam! 🍒 I finally received and unboxed my November BoxyCharm premium. For those unfamiliar with Boxycharm, it is a subscription service that gives you 5 full size make up products monthly. The base box comes with 5 items for 25 a month. If you want premium, it is 35. You get 2-3 more items than the base box. I used the star ⭐️ of the show (or rather star of the box) which is Illamasqua artistry palette. This retails for $47 USD. This palette performs well. The mattes were not patchy and the shimmers were impactful. There’s quite a fall out so I recommend doing your eye first before complexion. Then I used DoC single block eyeshadow in the shade Night Sky. This is perfect for a cool toned Smokey eye look. I used this for a pop of blue on my lower lash. #Dose of Colors - Block Party[products]# The realher lip liners come in a duo. I love the packaging because it doesn’t require sharpening. The formula was so pigmented and creamy. I was pretty impressed to be honest. I received a pencil eyeliner from the same brand on my last box and I didn’t like it at all. The Too Faced canary diamond highlighter, Lilly Lashes triple x mascara and Alamar’s gloss are from the pop up. I got them 80% off retail price! I wasn’t a fan of the mascara at first, but after applying it with a lash primer, it was amazing. It lengthened, darkened, and gave me volume. The highlighter was okay. It’s pretty but it’s quite chunky. I’m more of a subtle, glow-from-within type of highlighter. If you’re a fan of blinding highlighters, this is for you. I am a huge fan of the packaging. The lip gloss is ok. I wouldn’t pay full price for it however. Too Faced - Diamond Light Highlighter Lilly LASHES - Triple X Mascara HOURGLASS - Arch Brow Micro Sculpting Pencil aLamar COSMETICS - Desnudeas Lip Gloss Coqueta So far I am pretty satisfied with my box this month. If you are subscribed, what is your favorite product from your box? Xoxo, Francesca 💋
Let’s chat hair color!
What is a hair toner? A toner is a semi or demi permanent hair color that either adds or neutralizes tone in your hair- that’s where the word toner comes from. As a colorist, I use a toner on 99% of my blondes. A problem I’ve run into in the past is a new client telling me they do NOT want a toner or that they’ve been told they’re only for fixing mistakes! Let’s pause here. Without a toner your hair color will be what I call “raw blonde” aka whatever your color wants to lift to on its own. This can include uneven color from previous touch ups, or yellow or orange undertones that our hair naturally has. A toner is my weapon to help combat these uneven tones and leave your hair as our desired result. So- next time your stylist uses a toner you can ask, what color are we enhancing today?! The answer might surprise you! Xo
