Thinning Hair Causes and Treatments

Thinning hair is a worldwide condition. Men regularly experience hair loss from male pattern baldness, but both women and men may experience thin hair in their lifetime. The pattern in men is different to the pattern in women. Men develop recession at the temples, thinning and eventually a bald spot on the top of the head then potentially total baldness. Women develop diffuse thinning over the entire scalp that is most pronounced over the crown.
However, when hair loss is premature or severe, it can cause distress. Unfortunately, there’s no magic cure involved but the good news is there is a growing range of treatments available to slow or reduce hair loss, and stimulate partial regrowth. Read on to discover what causes thinning hair and how you can treat it.
Causes
All men and women will be affected by patterned hair loss at some stage in their lives. While the majority of men have developed temporal recession by their mid 20s and noticeable balding by their mid 50s, for most women, hair loss is mild and only occurs later in life. It is usually the result of genetic and hormonal factors. Hereditary baldness is so common that it is considered to be a normal part of the ageing process.
Other causes of thinning hair could be poor nutrition, overuse of commercial hair products, reactions/allergies to chemicals and even illness. Some people think that stress, diet, wearing hats, frequent washing and drinking alcohol are causes of hair loss, but researchers have found no link between any of these activities and patterned hair loss. There is some uncertainty about smoking cigarettes and hair loss, but the evidence is not strong.
Treatments
Although there is no cure for hair loss, a number of treatments can slow or reduce hair loss, stimulate partial regrowth or replace damaged hair.
There are a few things you can do now to reduce thinning hair such as avoiding pulling hair into tight buns, ponytails or braids. Repeated tension can cause a form of hair loss known as traction alopecia. Use a brush made from a flexible material and bristles with rounded tips. High heat can cause damage and breakage so use heat-styling tools sparingly. You should also avoid centre parts or try switching your part from one side to the other, which creates volume by lifting hairs that have been trained to lie flat. Consider a short cut, which focuses attention on fuller-looking growth close to the scalp. Hair loss shampoos and tonics can also help with hair retention and the condition of hair and scalp: especially those with a phyto-caffeine formula. Caffeine has been shown to stimulate the growth of strong, thick hair cells and can also help to protect roots against hormonal changes.
It could be something as simple as your diet! Make sure you’re consuming enough proteins and ensure you’re getting your daily doses of Vitamin D and B12.
You could also consider prescriptions. There are two clinically approved drugs for preventing further hair loss – finasteride and minoxidil. Both treatments may result in some hair regrowth but they include the risk of side-effects. You should consult your GP for further information. The more serious treatment would be a hair transplant if you already have significant hair loss. Before hair thinning, the average person has around 100,000 hairs; at least 25,000 are required to give the appearance of a relatively complete head of hair. The transplant process involves taking hair follicles from the back and sides of the head and grafting them onto the scalp - again consult a GP for more.

My Top 5 Foundations for Oily Skin
My Top 5 Foundations for Oily Skin
Here are my top 5 foundations for oily/combination/acne prone skin! These are by no means my only favorite foundations, just the ones I keep going back to. 1. ESTĒE LAUDER - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation This matte, oil-free foundation controls oil all day. It’s sweat, heat and humidity-resistant, waterproof and 24-hour colour true. With buildable, medium-to-full coverage that feels lightweight and so comfortable. No touchups needed. Best for hot weather/ holidays. The only Downside is that it doesn’t come with a pump 2. MAYBELLINE - Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation This foundation is a must have if you are looking for a good drugstore option for oily skin. It’s super affordable and gives a beautiful finish without feeling heavy on the skin. 3. HUDA BEAUTY - Fauxfilter Foundation is perfect for you if you are looking for full coverage. Just a couple of pumps go a long way. However, the formula isn’t ideal for anyone with dry skin or for people sensitive to string fragrances. 4. L'ORÉAL - Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Longwear Foundation This formula blends unbelievably well and you can build this to completely full coverage! ! I'm beyond impressed for this being drugstore. 5. The Ordinary - Colours Coverage Foundation with SPF 15 this is my everyday foundation and gives good enough coverage. I just have to mix two different shades to get my color as the range is quiet limited but for the price I pay, I don’t mind. Always stay away form words like “dewy”, “luminous”, “shiny” , “glowy” if you have oily skin. Let me know if you have any questions.
