Are you looking to achieve that just-walked-out-of-the-salon bouncy natural volume style? Somewhere between the huge blowout of the ’80s and the so-slick-it-sticks-to-your-head look of the ’90s, there lies a sleek yet bouncy medium. Many times when we straighten our hair ourselves at home we can achieve a style that is too straight, with no volume and no movement. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can do to give your hair extra volume while straightening it.
Hair straightening creates a smooth, bend-free finish and helps tame flyaways and frizz. Even if you have thin or fine hair you can also enjoy the benefits of straightening without sacrificing volume. Using the correct products before and after straightening helps ensure fuller hair with plenty of body and movement and for best results we recommend starting with already dry hair.
Top tips
  • Start in the shower
Let's get one thing clear: no shampoo or conditioner will give you straight hair. But hair care items labeled "smoothing" may be able to help prepare the strands for the process by providing major moisture. Hair that's dried out and brittle before you even start with the straightener is the culprit behind frazzled hair that won't lie flat. Take a paddle brush to comb the conditioner through, then rinse your hair gently.
  • Use the right brush
A boar bristle and nylon mix brush would be the best place to start. Nylon would cause static on its own, which is why plastic brushes are difficult to use. The boar bristle helps to smooth and polish. We also recommend using a round brush so you can tease the hair into a more voluminous shape.
  • Pick the right iron
By choosing a flat iron with advanced technology will ensure you achieve that bouncy voluminous look. If your flat iron is a dinosaur, you could be following all of these tips and still ending up with less-than-flawless hair. When it comes to straightening, the proof is in the product. Choose a modern iron with an automatic shut off feature, one that heats up quickly and make sure you don’t have the heat too high!
What you will need:
  • Duckbill clips
  • A flat iron
  • A hair brush
  • A light-hold hair spray
5 simple steps
From prep work to the finishing touches, these 5 simple steps will give you the best way to straighten hair without causing unnecessary damage.
  • Start with dry hair. Apply heat protectant to your hair. It won't do much to give your hair extra volume, but it will protect your hair from heat damage, and prevent it from turning brittle and dry. Be sure to focus the heat protectant on the ends of your hair, which tend to get damaged the easiest.
  • Section off your hair into very small chunks using the duckbill clips and distribute your tresses into even sections all along your head. Start with a small section of hair, close to your hair line. Take a small, 1 to 2-inch section of hair, and clamp your iron over it, as close as you can to your scalp without burning yourself.
  • Now here’s the key to keeping your volume: When running the iron down the length of your hair, do not clamp it down. Instead, leave it slightly open to benefit from the direct heat but also maintain as much volume as possible. Pulling the iron upwards helps create volume, while pulling it away makes it easier on your arm.
  • To fend off frizz, evenly coat your brush with the hair spray and comb it through.
  • Finish off by running your hands through your hair. Run your fingers upwards through your hair, starting at the roots. This will give your hair that final lift it needs. If you want to, give your hair a spray with some light-hold hairspray.
  • Your hair finally has the volume that you want, and straightening it was easy! Use these simple 5 steps every time you want to add volume and enjoy!
Extra tip - If you want your straightened hair to last an extra day, use a volumizing mist to freshen hair and help maintain the body. Straightened hair can very quickly fall flat and limp if you don’t use the correct hair care products before and after straightening. Products can help to maintain the style whilst allowing your hair to have volume, body, and movement.

UGH. YES! I’ve been reaching for this JUNGSAEMMOOL Artist Contour Palette all the time! You can get it from her website jsmbeauty.us for $35 US. The texture of it is so smooth and doesn’t enhance dry skin or create patches. I love how it doesn’t disturb the foundation underneath and creates a “shading” effect that seamlessly blends into the skin! It’ll look like your skin is naturally contoured rather than having a noticeable pigment in the area. Korean cosmetics really focus on enhancing your natural features with pigments that are more soft and subtle. It was very easy for me to build up pigment rather than starting with a lot of pigment and having to blend it out. If you tend to struggle with contour/bronzer in a way where it just doesn’t look right or it looks straight up orange, this is the palette for you! I’ve tried many brands such as ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA Beverly Hills Contour Powder Palette, FENTY BEAUTY - Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer NUDESTIX - Nudies All Over Face Color Bronze + Glow All of them were too orange or ashy for my liking. In the second photo, you will see all the swatches in order of the palette. I mix the colors Soft Beige and Soft Brown together to get the perfect contour. For those of you who are a couple shades darker than I am, I found the shades “Dark Brown” and “Dark” are also very helpful in creating a customized shade. Soft Beige definitely has a beige undertone, whereas Soft Brown has a beige-brown undertone. You can also use “Dark” and “Dark Brown” for filling in your brows or hair line to create a “fuller” effect. Contour color is very dependent on the color/undertone of your skin. Therefore, if you have been experiencing the same issues I have, give this a go! Highlight-wise, the shade “highlight” is AWESOME. No sparkles but definitely gives you a soft, second skin glow. After multiple uses, I will say that this product DID NOT break my skin out or clog my pores. As many of you may know I have dry, sensitive, and acne-prone skin. JUNGSAEMMOOL was created after one of Korea’s top makeup artists Jung Saem Mool. She is known for doing many famous actors/actress/KPOP group’s makeup. I’m always skeptical of any product no matter who’s behind the creation but this product definitely exceeded my expectations! Not to mention the packaging is travel-friendly!

The biggest trend in 2020 is PERSONLIZRD SERUMS. I tried #Atolla and here are my genuine thoughts (SURPRISE AT THE END OF CAPTION!) Do you ever feel like there are too many skincare products out there and have no idea what you need? Trust me, it’s happened to me too! I have been using #ATOLLA which is a company that formulates serums with a mixture of ingredients to target with your skin needs. Here are some of the benefits: 1) The serum is personalized for your skin. 2) you are able to monitor your skin changes each month with a skin test 3) Your formulation is altered monthly to target your problem areas. 4) It formulates several key ingredients into one serum, rather than buying separate creams. 5) it takes into account the products you are currently using. My initial skin concerns when completing my skin quiz with Atolla was battling dry skin as well as skin hyperpigmentation. They sent me a product with vitamin C complex as well as Alpha Arbutin. Vitamin C acts as my antioxidant against sun damage, evens out my hyperpigmentation, increases collagen, and increases hydration. Combining this with alpha arbutin, which targets the enzyme that produces pigment, only further reduced my hyperpigmentation. Like everything, results did not come overnight, but with consistent use, I was able to really even out my skin pigment and hydrate my skin. 🎉🎉🎉CHERIE SURPRISE 🎉🎉🎉 I've asked Atolla to give my CHERIE APP followers an exclusive code “DRCHRIS” for 25% off! Excited to see what you guys think!! 🙌🙌 Atolla - Custom Serum INGREDIENT BREAKDOWN:⤵️ The vitamin C helps with collagen growth, hyperpigmentation, as well as sun damage. The Alpha arbutin targets primarily hyperpigmentation creating an even skin tone. Depending on your product, you can use it in the morning or night.

Continuing the ACNH series, today I bring you Pietro ❤️ my favorite sheep villager and overall best boy. Products used: ⭐️ Complexion products: •e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer •DIOR - Forever Skin Correct Concealer •essence - All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder ⭐️ For the teardrop, heart & nose: •Transcend Dance from COLOURPOP - In a Trance Shadow Palette •My Milkshake from COLOURPOP - Strawberry shake shadow palette •Daiquiri from the same palette as above. ⭐️ Highlighter (for the tip of the nose): •OFRA - Limited Edition Rodeo Drive Highlighter Ornament ⭐️ Brows: • ohii - Magic Hair Wand ⭐️ Lips: •The now discontinued NYX Whipped Lip & Cheek Soufflé in Molten Love 💋 ⭐️ Lashes: •I just went to my nearest beauty supply and picked the most dramatic lashes I could find! Brand is Cherry Blossom, they’re their 3D SILK LASH, style #003 For this look I did my face makeup as usual, just some light concealing, just powdering with a matte powder. I like to keep my brows sheer and fluffy when doing villager makeup lol 😅 I tried drawing the teardrop and heart on my cheeks freehanded but ya girl is not talented like that, so I decided to do cutouts of both and stick them to my face using washi tape so it’s easy to remove and won’t tug on my skin, then I just filled them in using the shadows I mentioned above from Colourpop. For my nose I used Daiquiri from the Strawberry Shake palette, which is perfect for this since it’s a pigment and you just need the tiniest bit! Then I added some highlighter just on the tip to make it pop 😋 For some reason NYX always discontinues the products I really like, so I can’t tag the exact product I used since you won’t be able to find it but honestly any red lipstick or cream you have will do the trick! Whenever I’m doing extra af makeup I like to wear extra af, dramatic lashes like these 😌 lashes always make the look in my opinion! These from Cherry Blossom are so soft, I wish the band wasn’t as obvious but the more you use them, the easier it is to apply them! And that’s it! Surprisingly, this look didn’t take as long as I thought it would but it is still cute and festive 🤡 Which villager should I do next? I already have some on my list, but I’d love to hear your favorites! 💗 #cheriepartner #cheriecreator
EXFOLIATING ACIDS & How Not To Overdo It!!!👀✨💖
EXFOLIATING ACIDS & How Not To Overdo It!!!👀✨💖
Exfoliating acids are everywhere now and so many new products are about exfoliating the skin to “reveal brighter, smoother skin”. In the age of exfoliating now, it’s so easy to overdo and can easily result in harming the skin instead. Here are my favorite exfoliating acids (and products) and how I use it so I don’t damage my skin! Lactic Acid: A super gentle acid that exfoliates the top layer of skin and removes dead skin cells. I find this to be the most gentle of the acids and can be used everyday. I love fresh - Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence because I use it as an essence treatment. This is a liquid formula that easily sinks into the skin and “primes” the skin for the next products. It’s also a hydrating formula! Azelaic Acid: Another more gentle exfoliating acid that helps improve the appearance of blemishes and fade post-acne marks. I love this PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster because it can be mixed into your moisturizer and boost the effectiveness. I love that this speeds up the healing process of my acne marks because then I get clearer skin quicker! Salicylic Acid: One of the most effective exfoliating acids for treating and preventing acne! It exfoliates deep into the layers of skin and removes dead skin cells. PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator is a super strong and effective formula that I like to use when I’m breaking out A LOT. It’s too harsh on my skin to use daily but once a week is fine. I also love LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser for Acne Prone Skin which I use every night to wash my face. It’s just as effective and not too strong for daily use because it’s a wash off product and doesn’t stay on the skin. Glycolic Acid: Easily one of the strongest and deeply exfoliating acids out there. I find it super effective as a night serum like DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum or as a scrub like ALPHA-H - Micro Super Scrub with 12% Glycolic Acid . I use these products 2 times a week just to keep my skin free of congestion and to maintain the texture of my skin.

    Mermaid Polish🧜‍♀️ Same Brand Dupe?
Sally Hansen - Color Therapy Nail Polish Sally Hansen - Insta-Dri X Jelly Belly Nail Polish Similarities: - Both are from Sally Hansen which is famous for their polishes and nail products - Both have two-color tones - Both have blue base Differences - Sally Hansen Salon Manicure has 14.7ml (0.5 oz) comparing to Sally Hansen insta-dry Matte 9.17 ml (0.3 oz) - Salon Manicure is $15 CAD vs Insta-dry Matte $8 CAD (almost double the other) - The Salon Manicure does appear to be more hollow, when actually apply it, you can tell that this one is super jampacked with holo pigment - After two layers, the salon manicure series is perfect set and ready to finish ( actually one layer is good enough, if you do want extra hallow pigment, you can go with a second layer) but the insta-dry matte series, it is not as clear as the other, and you actually need a third layer to get the perfect finish. - The formula is thicker in Salon Manicure, but the consistency is very good and fluid. And it doesnt dragging the brush. It floats super nicely across the nail. - My opinion - I personally really love the Salon Manicure. Although both polish are from Sally Hansen, this one definitely wins over the other in every area. I love the fact that you can see the formula is a two-toned color, you can actually see the color shifting when turning it into different angles. And it appears the same on your nails. It has a perfect combination of blue and purple with purple pearl shimmer to keep the nail going strong.
