From using new products for the season to protecting your hair from heat and chlorine damage, it can feel like your hair will never be the same after a summer in the sun! Katie Alm, owner of The Storm Salon is San Dimas, CA, is a licensed cosmetologist, esthetician, and a certified makeup artist who has a deep passion for keeping your hair safe this summer! Here are her top tips for having fun in the sun while taking care of your lucious locks.Use a Properly Formulated Care Line"One of my favorite care lines that's perfect for the summer is called Defy Damage by Joico. It's a four-part care line with a shampoo, conditioner, mask, and leave-in product called Protective Shield. What makes this line a little different from other care lines is that the have something called Smart Release Technology. This means that the products have 3 days of protection against the sun and hot tools and the Protective Shield keeps you hair 5 times stronger. During summer, the main reasons we get frizz are because the ends of our hair strands get damaged from the sun, color damage, or chlorine. Protective shield protects against all of these as well as UVA and UVB rays." Take Care of Your Hair Before and After Swimming in a Chlorinated Pool"Before swimming, you can comb some conditioner through your hair to keep it moisturized and protected. It's also good to braid or secure your hair in some other way to make sure it doesn't become overly tangled or damaged. If your blonde hair turns green after a swim in the pool, use a clarifying shampoo."Use Products That Will Protect Your Hair"If you're looking for a detangler, one of my favorites is Brazilian Blowout's Ionic Bonding Spray. It's a color-safe detangling spray that leaves no residue behind. It will help detangle and seal your hair cuticles to promote shine and less frizz. Beach and Body Shape is perfect for those with straighter hair. It's a texture spray you can put in dry hair that will give it a high-shine, waxy finish so it helps smooth you hair down without weighing it down. Sometimes, if you have fine hair, product can make it look limp and dirty. But with this product, your hair maintains its body and looks fresh all day long."

Get a Brazilian Blowout"For a professional service, I would recommend a Brazilian blowout. As far as anti-frizz treatments go, Brazilian blowouts are the best smoothing and de-frizzing services you can find that are widely available. It's the perfect summer service to get done because it seals the hair cuticles down for up to 12 weeks, keeping hair soft and shiny. It also helps because, during those 12 weeks, you won't have to blow dry your hair. You can air dry and have frizzless hair."Don't Touch Your Hair"Touching your hair can also lead to frizziness and hair problems. If you can, I suggest brushing your hair through with conditioner while you're in the shower, putting product in in once you get out, and blowdrying it with a diffuser attachment. That helps you keep your hand oils out of your hair which is what causes frizz in the first place."

Get Glowing Skin for Beginners ✨
Get Glowing Skin for Beginners ✨
So you’re getting into skincare and want to get the glow? For me, glowing skin is about overall skin health. Here are the top tips I have! I have combo skin that is sensitive and acne-prone. 💛Acne Attack My skin journey began with a lot of hormonal and cystic acne so I started figuring out what to do to deal with that. I currently give credit to the following for really making a difference: ✨Retinol/Retinal These increase skin cell turnover so they are essentially acne medication. I recommend starting very slowly with these at night with a heavier moisturizer because they can be drying. These heal my breakouts faster and prevent them in the first place. ✨Vitamin C I give this lots of credit for helping with any hyperpigmentation that happens after breakouts. So incredible for acne scars and overall brightening your skin! I love to use mine during the day to fight free radicals. ✨Sunscreen The true hero of skincare. If you’re not using this, nothing else matters. I recommend Krave - The Beet Shield which also has vitamin C. ✨Double cleansing at night. Buy a cleansing balm and gently massage your face for 10 minutes. Seriously you will feel the junk leaving your pores. This helps take off makeup, sunscreen, dirt and pollutants from the day. Always do this at night before a regular water-based cleanser like Krave - Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser 💛HYDRATION I always tell people when they start, find a good cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. This is the core of skincare health. Sure the actives are great for specific concerns, but the basics can take you far too. When I’m looking for a moisturizer, I want ceramides in it. I currently alternate between these two: #FARMACY - Honey Halo Ultra-hydrating Ceramide Moisturizer[products]#[FiveStars] #CeraVe - Healing Ointment[products]#[FiveStars] The healing ointment is best for night because it is THICK and no joke but wow does it always hydrate my entire life. 💛Exfoliation Exfoliation is huge for glowing skin. I prefer chemical exfoliation because it is gentler than physical scrubs. You’ll want to look for anything with AHA, BHA or PHA. My favorite exfoliants are: FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum Dr Dennis Gross - Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula 30 Applications Honeymoon Glow has AHA as well as gentle flower acids. I find this literally does give me a glow the next morning and is great for breakouts. It can feel a bit strong so maybe start slow and work your way up. Other things that helped me: ✨I stopped drinking ✨I drink way more water now ✨Using Pink Clay masks removes impurities when needed ✨Niacinamide (I’ll use this for texture with Vitamin C and yes you can use them together safely- there’s an old belief that you can’t) ✨SUNSCREEN AGAIN 💚The key is consistency in your routine, using products that work for YOU and adjusting here and there for concerns. #CheriePartner
🦋 How to DIY Butterfly Clips 🦋
🦋 How to DIY Butterfly Clips 🦋
Okay, so the best way to make these is to buy fake butterflies from the dollar store, but what if you’re too lazy to leave the house, don’t want to spend money or can’t find any fake butterflies in any stores??? Well, I got the solution! These are super easy to recreate so basically here are the steps: 1. Copy and paste butterfly outlines onto Google Docs (when looking for outlines on google images, search white background or png) 2. Print out 3. Color in with colored pencils or markers and cut out the butterflies 4. Insert bobby pin on the base of the butterfly body (you can glue it down with hot glue or super glue for extra security) 5. Fold the butterflies upwards in half for a more realistic fluttery look! These are defineitly for the short-term if you just really want to get the butterfly look instantly. If you want a more realistic look, I would recommend looking at butterfly wall decor and then gluing it on bobby pins or any other hair clips. Overall though, I’d say they turned out pretty well if I say so myself!! If you try my method, the smaller butterflies look a lot more realistic in pictures since with bigger sizes, you can kind of tell it’s paper and is more prone to bending and folding. If you have a colored printer, you can also just print out butterflies but I think coloring them in yourself makes it look more vibrant! #cheriepartner
🥀fresh Rose Cream w/time-release ‘hydropatches‘
🥀fresh Rose Cream w/time-release ‘hydropatches‘
I was using this face cream for about a year & hadn’t noticed any issues until a couple months ago. I may not have been paying close enough attention before, or it became an issue over time... 🚨REDNESS🚨 fresh - Rose & Hyaluronic Acid Deep Hydration Moisturizer A lot of things about this cream are great... the texture is a medium weight gel-cream that smells like a lovely bouquet of roses. It absorbs nicely with a slightly dewy finish & truly does offer lasting hydration. My issue is a redness reaction I get immediately after applying. I’ve experimented with different products underneath it & also determined the irritation is not physical (from rubbing in) 💔I took some photos today (this will be my last time using it on my face! Ever! I did this for you guys🥰) As you can see, it didn’t do the same thing to my arm... So definitely something to consider when patch testing products, the skin on your face will possibly behave differently than other areas of skin on your body, like your arm. There are more capillaries on your face & the skin is thinner. So my face gets really red, especially my cheeks & jaw area— Though it does dissipate, my skin obviously isn’t happy, so I stopped using it. When I read some reviews of the product, I found a few individuals with the same issue. One thought it could be a reaction to the rose oil. I thought I’d had a good track record with rose oils, but I’ve heard that some can find it irritating. 🌹*in the photos, my “before” is about 30 minutes after washing my face, toning, serum & eye cream. The “after” photo is immediately after applying the fresh Rose Cream. This contains both extract & oil of the Damask Rose, as well as Plum seed oil, Cucumber extract & Ashitaba: a species of flowering plant in the carrot family, native to Japan. It also has the smaller molecular form of Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate as well as Vitamin E. 🚨Due to my reaction I think I’ll just finish this off as a body cream, why not? Has anyone else had this reaction? Or know which ingredient may be causing it? (I don’t usually have any reactions to products with fragrance ftr)
⛅️End of Summer SPF roundup! Face & body🧴
⛅️End of Summer SPF roundup! Face & body🧴
Just because Summer is coming to an end, your love affair with daily UV protection never should. These are the sunscreens I tried this year that I wanted to share with you guys. 🌤An obvious disclaimer: my skin is very pale & I can’t totally predict how these products will blend into deep skin tones regarding “white cast” (the washing out effect that zinc based sunscreens can have) But I tried my best to give an idea of the texture before & after blending/absorbing, check out the slides🤍 KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 Texture: creamy & moisturizing Finish: very dewy/shiny SPF: 32 Type: Zinc Oxide 22.4% I did a thorough review of this probiotic moisturizing sunscreen in a previous post, it’s very detailed⚡️ Has a light natural vanilla-oatmeal scent & a slight beige tint. I love this one for being so moisturizing & comfortable to wear, but the finish is quite dewy, so I feel I need powder over this to wear it in public. sun bum - Mineral Face Lotion SPF 30 Texture: creamy & lightweight Finish: matte SPF: 30 Type: Titanium Dioxide 5.3% /Zinc Oxide 2.4% This is such a great inexpensive option for a matte, mineral sunscreen that leaves very minimal white cast. The cast is slightly blue, though it blends away on my skin, this could be problematic for darker tones. The texture is so creamy yet very lightweight, it reminds me of makeup primer. It’s quite moisturizing, has no scent & is the most matte out of the 3. SHISEIDO - Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen SPF 42 Texture: liquidy & lightweight Finish: matte SPF: 42 Type: Zinc Oxide 12.5% /Octinoxate 4.9% /Octocrylene 3% This has been my go-to for years. It’s a combination of mineral & chemical sunscreens, & is oil free. You have to shake the contents really well first, but it has a little shaker ball inside to help. I love the texture of this, really light & absorbs well without being overly matte. I do always need moisturizer on under this though. The white cast is really minimal even with reapplication, & it’s never irritated my dry skin. Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen Spray SPF 45 Texture: lightweight liquid aerosol Finish: satin/semi sheen SPF: 45 Type: Homosalate 15% /Oxybenzone 6% /Octisalate 5% /Avobenzone 3% /Octocrylene 2.35% Honestly this makes my skin feel itchy & tight after applying, even after I moisturize. I’ve been steering away from purely chemical sunscreen formulas like this, but chemical sunscreens do work better for sone people. I wouldn’t recommend for dry or sensitive skin. sun bum - Mineral Continuous Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 Texture: creamy, medium weight aerosol Finish: velvet matte SPF: 30 Type: Zinc Oxide 14% Has a sort of tropical scent & feels good on the skin. Though some white cast, it’s not the ‘blue’ tint the face lotion has. Full review in a previous post.
My most loved Face Oil🌹
My most loved Face Oil🌹
Known as the "Queen of essential oils", Rose essential oils can solve many skin problems. Here are some simple usages The rose massage oil has the function of soft skin, moisturizing and anti-wrinkle. It can effectively regulate the skin for aging and dry skin and make the skin metabolism and activation. Skin care products containing rose essential oil are purported to hydrate dry skin, clear acne, reduce signs of aging, minimize the appearance of scars, and help with conditions such as eczema and rosacea. I am a big fan of face oil. As a combination dry, these essential oils. These three are my favorite, Today I want to share my most loved rose oil.clé de peau BEAUTÉ - Radiant Multi Repair Oil RADIANT MULTI REPAIR OIL from Clea de peau beauty is a multi-purpose face oil that leaves skin enchantingly dewy, visibly plump and firm. I have loved using this oil on my face and neck when my skin feels particularly dry. I really like the texture. Uniquely lightweight, non-sticky texture absorbs easily for a pleasurable smooth feel on skin My skin used to be very dry and I started using this repair oil with intensive fortifying cream and protective fortifying emulsion since about 3 months ago. I like to mix two to three drops of oil with the cream and apply over my face. Just a few drops go a really long way. I massage it into wet hair when I am planning to air dry and it makes my hair feel effortlessly moisturized. I also use it to tame frizz or flyaways when my hair is dry. It is totally decadent and worth it! Overall, this oil makes my skin look better-it dissolves into the skin so easily and does not leave an oily residue. If there was a larger version-spray perhaps-for the body I would buy more! And I do believe rose oil is perfect little addition to the skin care routine. It’s great for combination skin and helps keep skin tone smooth and glowing!
