👩🦱 Transform Your Curls With The Best Hair Care Brands for Curly Hair
Jul. 1, 2020
A thick mop of curls is often the envy of straight-haired girls, but if you’re anything like me, trying to maintain curly hair is challenging at the best of times and downright impossible at the worst. Achieving that bouncy, shiny, messy-but-defined look day in, day out can take a lot of time (and money!), making a lot of us curly girls turn to the straighteners. But never fear – there are some solutions out there, and luckily for you, I’ve found four of the best brands on the market for curly hair.
GirlandHair was founded by Dr. Camille Verovic, a former marketing professional turned doctor. For years, she sought after natural products to care for her curls instead of wearing protective styles such as weaves, braids, and wigs – but to no avail. Her solution? Formulate them herself. Her mission was to make maintaining her natural hair as easy and convenient as possible – as she says, “wash day should never take all day”. As a result, based on her personal frustration but using her extensive medical knowledge, Camille created a product line to do just that. All GirlandHair products are free from alcohol, sulfates, parabens, phthalate, silicone, and color – plus, they’re also cruelty-free. One of the brand’s bestsellers is the CLEANSE+ Water-To-Foam Moisturizing Shampoo, which deeply cleanses without stripping the hair of its natural oils, leaving it soft, bouncy, and easy to detangle. Plus, it has an easy-to-use applicator tip for a clean that gets right to the scalp.
Ouidad is a beauty mogul turned founder of a hair care brand with the same name – and it would be fair to say that she’s one of the pioneers of curl-specific hair products in the beauty industry. Since 1984, she’s worked to grow the company and has been the proud recipient of more than one Best of Beauty awards. Ouidad understood that while each curl has its own structure, there are four main curl types: kinky, tight, loose, and classic. She’s developed a signature line of products to complement each different type, combining premium natural ingredients with experience spanning decades, as well as the latest scientific knowledge in the hair care industry. One of the brand’s best-selling products is the Mongongo Oil Multi-Use Curl Treatment, which hydrates, moisturizes, protects, and nourishes all curl types. It contains a fantastic blend of ingredients, including mongongo nut oil, coconut, American palm seed oil, broccoli seed oil, linoleic acid, and vitamin E.
Only Curls was founded in 2016 in London but has since earned international recognition for – you guessed it – its line of products tailored specifically to curly hair. The brand is on a mission to encourage girls with curly hair – and that’s all types of curly hair – to stop using chemicals, forget about using heated appliances, and embrace their natural curls. To help them do this, Only Curls offers a line of hair care products formulated to moisturize and define curls while banishing frizz – and better yet, they’re all 100% vegan and cruelty-free, as well as containing natural ingredients. The packaging is even made with bioplastic (which is derived from sugarcane), making them 100% recyclable. The brand’s bestseller is the Hydrating Curl Creme, which is a conditioning, leave-in formula that hydrates and defines curls without weighing them down. The result? Smooth curls, minimal frizz, and delicious-smelling hair (it’s scented with citrus and coconut!).

SheaMoisture is a New York-based company with roots in Sierra Leone, where the founders’ grandmother started selling hair products at a market way back in 1912. All of Sofi Tucker’s product formulas were based on shea butter and targeted at thick, curly hair – and today, the brand’s focus is still the same. SheaMoisture uses premium natural ingredients from around the world and organic production processes to make sustainable but effective hair products that allow people to embrace their natural curls. One of the brand’s best-selling products is the Coconut and Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé – infused with coconut oil (and, of course, shea butter), it moisturizes and defines curls while allowing for more style control, meaning you can embrace your natural hair while protecting and nourishing it.

Black Owned Intimate Care ✨🌹
I did a review on this brand before but in honor of BHM I def had to bring it up again ! #Saltxo - Yoni Shower Gel[products]#[FiveStars] #Saltxo - Femme Rejuv Oil[products]#[FiveStars] I use this gel everyday! It leaves my Yoni energized and clean. I’ve never experienced any irritation and I’m extremely sensitive in that area. It smells very herbal like and a little goes a long way! ($17.99) The Femme Rejuv Oil is a great staple for irritation. I use this baby after my waxes, Emergency shaves, and after getting busy. I find this to be the best oil I’ve ever used down there. A little goes a long way. ($30) This brand is usually always out of stock! She sells out so fast but I always manage to get one thing. I definitely recommend if you love intimate soaps . Do you have a favorite intimate soap ?
Black Owned Makeup Look
So I decided to use the products I pictured in my first photo (minus my highlight shade and lipstick) I used the #Ace Beaute - Nostalgia Palette[products]#[FiveStars] for my entire eye look. I definitely enjoyed these products. My only advice is to shake the UOMA BEAUTY - Say What?! Foundation before use (because it can come out watery) but the coverage is absolutely flawless. I was shocked with the consistency the coverage I got. What’s your favorite black owned brands? (I do not own right to the song)

Clear skin the gentle way?
Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩 “buh-koo-chee-all” HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I’ve already become a diehard Herbivore lover. So to receive this beauty was super exciting. When I started my acne journey on Cherie I was (and still am) a Differin Acne Gel stan. This was my choice of retinol and I wanted it strong to treat acne and boost my cellular turnover. Now that my acne is currently under control and it’s getting hot again, I definitely want something smooth and gentle. Bakuchiol is a gentler alternative to the very popular ingredient retinol. So essentially you’ll get overall youthful results for your skin. I haven’t tested this on my acne theory yet, but overall my face has been smooth and irritation free. This serum does not have a smell which I love for products of this caliber. I also love that it’s light and not drying at all. I use this at night and since i have a tolerance to retinol I use it every night. I haven’t been using it long enough to see results (about 12 weeks) but I definitely can’t wait to finish this. Have you tried Bakuchiol?

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.3 DAYS AGO
