Top 6 ingredients to combat Chronically Oily Skin

Jun. 28, 2020
Oily skin has some serious pros and cons. First, while oily skin can be a little annoying, it helps trap moisture, so your skin doesn't become dry and flaky during the winter months. Oily skin can also combat and protect your skin from the signs of aging. However, oily skin is associated with acne breakouts, too. The key is to have a balance. If your skin is too oily, then you are losing a lot of the benefits and increasing the possibility of more breakouts.
Let's talk about how to combat overly oily skin, so you get the benefits of having a dewy complexion without the problems.
There are some products you want to avoid with oily skin, and those are mostly products that contain mineral oils, petroleum, or heavy vegetable oils. These products will only serve to clog your pores more and potentially lead to more breakouts and acne problems on your skin.
Creating a skincare routine is easy to do, but it's important to remember that while you are cleansing your skin, you must put the hydration back in your skin to assist your natural oil production. After using a product like retinol or kaolin clay, make sure you add hydrating products such as hyaluronic acid or light vegetable oils to your routine, so your pores feel adequately hydrated and don't feel obligated to make extra sebum.

My well-loved drugstore makeup essentials
These are the drugstore makeup picks I ACTUALLY use!
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Tarte Shapetape Concealer. Even the latest launches from Rare Beauty have me swooning. But drugstore makeup holds a special place in my heart.
Walking through the aisles of Target or CVS gets me giddy. Quite honestly, I count those trips as my therapy sessions. Plus, these are the places were I started getting essentials to experiment with when I was younger!
My favorite brands to score from are no doubt Pixi, NYX, Essence Cosmetics, Sonia Kashuk, Maybelline and Covergirl. They’re just my go-to’s! They’re the brands constantly putting out dupes for cult favorites.
Everything in this picture, I use on a daily basis.
I’ve been going through Maybelline Lifter Glosses like they’re going out of style. I actually was responsible for my local Target running out of stock once...oops.
Another new essential that’s crawled its way into my everyday routine is the Covergirl Cooling Glow Stick. It’s part of their new Clean Fresh line and I use it on my WHOLE face. Top tip: try it under your eyes over your concealer 👀
I’m still in search for the perfect drugstore CC cream, does anyone have any good recommendations?
What it means to blowdry down the hair cuticle!
Let’s simplify what it means when a hairstylist says to blow dry down the hair cuticle:
When you think of your hair, think of the shingles on a roof. They’re all laying down but on top of each other. The cuticle of our hair is doing the same!
When we blow dry up or at the hair cuticle, it causes all those little shingles to stand up- causing frizz, loss of moisture, and hair damage. When we blow dry down the hair cuticle, all the shingles can lay flat against each other and be the protective barrier that they’re supposed to be.
If you’re having trouble with extra frizz or loss of moisture pay attention to the direction that your blow drying. This could make all the difference!
i tried covergirl’s clean fresh line...
... and i have a lot to say! it has been ages since i posted a detailed review of a product, so we might as well just dive in!
COVERGIRL - Clean Fresh Cooling Glow Highlighter Stick
the first product from this collection that i tried was their cooling glow stick. i own shades “opal dreams”, which is a nice opal pale-pink shade, as well as “so gilty” which is a more warm-toned golden nude shade. they are super cooling and have a nice natural sheen to them which can be emphasized by topping with a powder highlight. i find myself reaching for this a lot to make my complexion dewy and nice!
COVERGIRL - Clean Fresh Hydrating Concealer
i think people who do exclusively natural makeup will love this product. it is creamy and suitable for drier complexions (unlike my own), but the coverage simply isn’t enough for me. i would consider it light-medium, but i do usually choose the higher-coverage (but MUCH DRIER) COVERGIRL - TruBlend Undercover Concealer .
COVERGIRL - Clean Fresh Pressed Powder
i like this powder. i own the translucent shade and the flashback is nothing crazy. i do find i have to use a lot more of it than i did when i used to use the MAYBELLINE - Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder.
COVERGIRL - Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation
i like this foundation as well. it does have a unique smell which may trouble some but the coverage is nice and the finish could be described as satin. people either love or hate this foundation, but i think it is great and will certainly repurchase it!
OVERALL....
i love this line and i think it is great for everyday natural makeup looks. my favourite is easily the cooling glow stick and least favourite being the hydrating concealer. overall, i love using all of these products together and i will likely repurchase many of them!!⛅️💗
i hope you enjoyed ;) please be sure to follow here and on my IG @chloebrk.mua

Which moisturizer is right for my skin type?
A little bit of moisturizing a day keeps the dry skin away!
Moisturizing is crucial to a healthy skin barrier. All 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 help with dry skin. Yet, not all moisturizers are created equal. So, how do you choose the 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 for your skin?
I am breaking it down today for #WinterSkinReliefDay.
In general, 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 provide a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance that holds it in.
𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 are formulated in 𝟯 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:
✅ 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: greasy/oily and block the evaporation of water from your skin.
💦 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: pull water into the top layer of your skin both from the air and from deeper layers of the skin.
🧖🏾♀️ 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: not really moisturizering but rather to make the skin feel smooth by replacing absent skin the lipids and oils to fill in all the cracks on the skin, helping smooth out the surface of your skin and repair your skin’s barrier.
Here is a cheat sheet to help you select the appropriate moisturizer for your skin.
𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀
📅 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆, regardless of your skin type. Even oily skin needs moisturizing every day with the right type of moisturizer. Please avoid moisturizing reactively, aka moisturizering 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 when your skin is dry.
🚿 Always apply to 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻. P.S I keep my moisturizer in my shower to apply right after I towel off gently.
🔑 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿. This is key for the winter 🥶 months. You need both a humectant which draw moisture to the skin and occlusive ingredients which keep water from evaporating off of your skin.
🌓𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿. This is really important in the winter if you are using humectant heavy moisturizer. The dry air can pull the water out of your skin. Sounds crazy right?
🚫𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even if you do not have sensitive skin. Fragrance and coloring are just a set up for possible irritation/allergy and no one has time for that.
🦶🏾 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸. They too need some TLC.
