Furloughed: Will Canada´s broke businesses care about its 2020 Pride?Canada's businesses have issued save-our-soul pleas. Will they bother funding Pride?

I was fascinated because where I come from in Zimbabwe (Africa) and a place where any attempt to hold a Pride walk could attract violent reprisals. Something bemused me about Canada´s capital Pride march. That is corporate giants; your Bank of Canada, Starbucks, truckers, Air Canada, embassies, Shopify; all marching out forcefully, donating water bottles, vehicles, music gigs or branded condoms to illuminate crowds at the pride walk. I was particularly told that Gaingels, an investment group in Toronto whose members invest their money in companies with admirable Pride values, reportedly made its first deal in Canada in June 2019. The firm reportedly ploughed $360 000 in Borrowell, a Toronto-based fintech company whose 50% of staff identifies as female and whose vice president is a member of the LGBTQIA community. This is exemplary. But here is the catch – COVID-19 has devastated Canada's economy, shut down businesses and furloughed millions of workers. Will Canada's businesses – broke and insolvent – flush out wallets and support the 2020 Pride? Does the virus mean supporting Pride is now a forgotten, non-essential expense?Pride 2020 Sponsors May VanishAs if to illustrate the grim times ahead – Canada's Capital Pride 2020 slated for 21 to 30 August – will probably be the first virtual pride in the history of prides in Canada. If crowds cannot mingle physically for Pride – will corporate businesses bother coming out with emphatic support for Pride? To be fair, corporate company donations that are normally the financial lifeline for Canada's Capital Pride, are in dire straits themselves. For example, Air Canada, a heroic sponsor of the Capital Pride, has slashed 20 000 jobs amid a frightening collapse of air travel. If one of the world's most premier airlines is asking staff to go on leave for up to two years – will anyone bother with meeting the sponsorship costs of a virtual Pride? It remains to be seen.A Cancelled Pride Sets Bad PrecedentI am not entirely optimistic. A cancelled or much reduced Pride will set a bad precedent that, in times of financial woes; pride marches or LGBTQIA safe spaces, are just an afterthought. LGBTQIA safe spaces and rights-affirming events like the Pride are needed even more in 2020 amid the Covid-19 outbreak. In this crisis, LGBTQIA identifying Canadians are bearing the brunt of being quarantined in homes with homophobic parents, siblings or relatives. Transfolk, for fear of lockdown rules and amplified hatred, cannot come out safely and take advantage of events like Pride to affirm their humanity, make friends or connections. It is at this tumultuous time that Pride events could do much to reassure transfolk that even amidst a pandemic, LGBTQIA rights and Pride walks matter for a community that has been long used to living hidden under the table –sort of. But for a Pride March to go ahead, massive amounts of money, donations and human services are needed. Canada’s businesses are facing their grimmest hour since World War 2. It will be a fabulous miracle if come August most of them pump out resources for the 2020 Pride amidst bankruptcies and a vicious pandemic. RENTINOIDs: the BEST super ingredient
🌸 note: two of the products in my picture are prescription only, high grade retinoids. but i have tagged their drug store dupes that are the SAME product with a lower concentration 🌸 WHAT IS A RETINOL? in the most basic form, a retinoid is a form of VITAMIN A which encourages skin cells to break down and turn over faster, resulting in reduction of acne, wrinkles, dark spots and signs of aging. It promotes collagen production, unclogs pores, and reduces scarring. its actually thickens skin, preventing wrinkles from forming ☀️☀️ALWAYS USE AN SPF WITH RETINOIDS☀️☀️ because your skin cells are dying and regenerating so quickly, you are much more prone to sunburns. And we know sunburns are literally life-threatening they vary HIGHLY in strength (weak to strong list) - retinoid esters: The weakest version of a retinoid, but is good for sensitive skin, surface level retinol: found in a variety of products, works on the cellular level of skin - adapalene (differin): Used to be prescription only but can now be found in a low-dose age in most drug stores. penetrates deeper and slows the production of sebum with faster cell turnover - retinoic acid (Retin-A/tretinoin): works deeper in the skin, can produce overnight results in the form of dead skin peeling. Very advanced skin cell turnover, as it penetrates and stimulates cell death and production. Skin can become very sensitive, irritated , and red - isotretinoin (Accutane): essentially sebum production is very limited and skin cell turnover is dramatically increased. on ingestible medication that will make your skin peel, dry out, and really kill acne. It’s prescription only but very effective. 🌸 products i use! prescription only: ADAPALENE 0.3% dupe: DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel ADAPALENE is the primary form of retinol in this product. this has been my go to product for years, it makes me less sun sensitive then Retin-A 0.05%, while still giving me excellent skin cell turnover and anti aging benefits. It helped my skin go from absolute shiz to a much cleaner glowing face (see 4th pic) prescription only: RETIN-A 0.05% dupe: janssen - Retino-A 0.05% Tretinoin Cream TRETENOIN is the primary form of retinoid in this product. these two may actually be the same product, but the one that I have I know is usually prescription grade. it will make your skin peel overnight, so I use it as a spot treatment if I get any deep set nodular acne. i used this for a couple years but it made me really sun sensitive, it is very strong! luxury brand: SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum RETINOL ESTER and CoQ10 are the primary forms of retinal in this product. this claims to have a 6.5% blend of stabilize retinoids and botanical retinoid alternative extracts. I think that it is incredibly overpriced for what it is. There are very similar dupes such as those from the inkey list and the ordinary

Wishful Rose Oil by HUDA -Review & Dupe for $24?
I was extremely intrigued with the rose oil as I already use a daily oil by Pixi Beauty and saw a significant difference. But after three days testing the Wishful Rose Oil, I’m truly dissatisfied with the product. For $63.00 this oil doesn’t do enough and the smell is not amazing either! I can get past it because of the listed ingredients “Damascus, Carrot, Rosehip. The product claims to give you a more even, bright and smooth appearance appropriate for all skin types, but actually just sits on your face and doesn’t absorb. This was my first negative view of the product, but what i can say that i like is the claim for brighter skin does come to light. I felt rejuvenated. The Dupe product mentioned by Pixi Beauty is just a .03 fl oz difference with the same main ingredient Rosehip. Ultimately I will stick to my $24.00 Pixi rose oil as I can trust it will melt into my skin overnight and truly keep it’s claims under my skin! xx
🍬🍃TATCHA MINIS HAUL🍃🍬
💜This is a recent Tatcha haul I scooped from Sephora with my VIB discount & saved up points, but I definitely placed an order today on tatcha.com to take advantage of their 20% off sale. Such a good time to purchase from Tatcha! I grabbed a couple old 5 star favorites like the Gold Spun lip balm & their Japanese blotting papers, as well as some other things I’ve been wanting to check out. Tatcha is actually an American brand, made in Japan🇯🇵, that adheres to Japan’s official safety & purity standards, one of the highest in the world, much stricter than the US (for more on that, check out my last post, or the 2015 documentary on Netflix called Stink) They were recently acquired by Unilever, so I hope they don’t ever change their standards! Tatcha sources all of their botanical extracts, ingredients & actives from plants grown in the most renowned provenances of Japan. 🍵🍚🌊Their formulas revolve around key ingredients Green Tea, Rice & Seaweed, the trinity of superfoods, rich in both nutrients & Japanese history, based on a Japanese document from 1813 which captured the beauty rituals of the time. ➕Their 2x fermented ‘Hadasei-3 complex’ yields over 85 actives like Enzymes, Minerals, Lactic & Amino Acids. It’s been a couple years since I’ve purchased Tatcha products, I’ve always loved their face creams, but we all know Tatcha is pricey!!! I think I was just always into moving on & trying something new, but oh how I missed them! I haven’t had as much luck with Tatcha cleansers in the past, I do adore their rice polish exfoliators 🍚 but personally was never a fan of the ‘One Step Camellia cleansing oil’ scent. I don’t think I’ve ever tried ‘The Deep Cleanse’ but I’m actually most excited to try their new cream cleanser: ‘The Rice Wash’🍚💦 I was also excited to finally try ‘The Silk Peony melting eye cream’ too, so this set was a no brainer! TATCHA - Pure & Glowing Trio set: $72 The ‘Pure & Glowing Trio’ set includes: a full size 1.7 oz Dewy Skin cream ($68) a 1.7 oz Rice Wash cleanser (full size is $35/4 oz) & 0.17 oz Silk Peony eye cream (full size $60/.5 oz) 🍬For now I’m just gonna share texture swatches & ingredients, but stay tuned... I’ll be rating everything in full review of every product coming soon! 💧TATCHA - Balanced Skin Duo The other products pictured are minis from a ‘Sephora Beauty Insider’ 300-point option that included: one mini ‘The Deep Cleanse’ 0.85 oz & one mini ‘The Water Cream’ 0.34 oz TATCHA - The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser Full size: $38/5 oz TATCHA - The Water Cream Full size $68/1.7 oz 💜In the meantime, check out that sale! And tell me your favorite Tatcha product(s) in the comments... or tell me about the ones that didn’t work for you!
Never Give Up On Your Skin
Looking at my unfiltered photo you may be thinking that I don’t suffer from cystic acne but I do and I did. In my early teens my skin was PERFECT. By college, I would get 1-2 pimples near the time where my red seas be flowing. In my early 20s and as I’ve aged it got worse. I experienced enlargement of pores, cystic acne, blackheads on a repeat vicious cycle. Now in my late 20’s I combat all of those knowing that I’m a combination type. I did Seeing as my skincare was considered a bar of soap, I set out on my skin journey. Trying products that were absolutely no good. Yes, I trotted to Target and have picked up Clean & Clear. I’ve gone down the road and used the St. Ives Scrub 👀 Do I have to wash make up off every night? 😖 I remember feeling lost and down in the dumps, frustrated because I couldn’t see results. Mistaking tightness as a measure of effectivity, I suffered from dryness. Causing my skin to produce more oils, I made my pores bigger. 😟 To this day my pores on my nose and cheeks are still very visible to me. Popped too many a pimple because I couldn’t resist.✖️✖️✖️ I do Throughout every mistake I became motivated to learn. This was my skin and certainly if it’s mine then it’s within my control. I obsessed because I feel that the more time I spend on it, the more beneficial it will be for me and my well being. Sometimes that means breaking the bank 🏦 and sometimes you put on your cheap skates. 💨 Through my visits at the dermatologist and guidance from my mom, I’ve come to accept so much despite feeling like giving up. 🔚 Lessons Along The Way No one is going to get as close to my face as I do to a mirror before my shower 🛀. Unless you’re my husband who smooches me and always tells me I’m beautiful. 🥺 No one is going to have that much motivation to look at my picture and zoom x100000000 magnification 🔍 on it just to count my pores. Just because it says pore clearing or acne treatment whatever marketing buzzword does not mean that it’s good for you. There are skincare products that can make it worse. Even just by going with good reviews, checking the ingredients is worth the while. Put those ugly products into permanent purgatory. 🗑 After enough time and patience, results will slowly show more and more each day. Scars that existed no longer existed. Deeper scars that start to look smaller. There are no days off to application or improving my routine. You will CONQUER and tame this beast you call skin! ⚔️ I’m glad that there’s a medium to express what’s helped me along the way. I’m also here to learn more from the community. All I know is what I’ve learnt so far and I’m so happy to share that I couldn’t believe this is my 50th post on Cherie! 🥳 Accept and love your skin, show yourself the patience you deserve. Thank you so much for reading. But most of all beside those lessons, I should have never forgotten the sunblock. 🤣 You live and you learn.
