✅The best anti-aging ingredients known to (wo)mankind
While we can’t quite permanently stop the process aging, we can pretty effectively slow the process of aging and prolong our youthful look. Read on to find out the best science as taught us.
There’s a lot of noise out there about regimes that will make you look young again. If you want to smile like Jennifer Anniston and kick butt like Nicole Kidman, then you need to read this.
Most articles on the web hand out a laundry list of anti-aging ingredients you’re supposed to commit to memory. As I researched this stuff more and more, I discovered that it’s actually a lot simpler than it seems. Most ingredients actually fall into three main buckets: preventing skin damage, improving skin texture and improving skin color. I’m not a biochemist and I’m not a board-certified MD / PhD, but trust me, looking at cosmetics this way will save you agonizing hours of confusion. I’ve taken a selection of the most noteworthy anti-aging ingredients and created a little cheat sheet to get you started.
One of the most damaging things you can be exposed to is UV radiation, and that’s because UVA and UVB rays will penetrate the skin cells and release free radicals, which can cause all sorts of oxidative damage to your skin and DNA, too.
This is not optional, period. Thank goodness there’s now a cornucopia of sunscreens, both physical and chemical, for you to choose from. Make sure you incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine, and choose something that is at least SPF 30.
Known as tocopherol (and many other names), vitamin E is a potent anti-oxidant that can reverse and prevent damage from free radicals. It’s also able to accelerate the process of skin healing, making it great as a treatment after prolonged sun exposure. By facilitating the healing of wounds and locking in more moisture in your skin, it’s an essential ingredient for radiant, healthy-looking skin.
A form of vitamin B3, Niacinamide has shown a lot of potential in fighting free radical damage, helping to make your dark spots light again.
You know healthy-looking skin when you see it; it’s radiant, firm and full. And there are ingredients that can give you exactly that look and feel. As you age, your body becomes defective in collagen production, leading to a breakdown in the extracellular matrix surrounding your skin cells, and that’s part of the reason for why you get fat loss under the skin, sagginess, and thinning of the epidermal layer.
Peptides are a short chain of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. A 2018 study published in the International Journal of Peptide Research and Therapeutics convincingly showed that certain peptides had a positive effect on skin cells’ firmness and stiffness.Peptides are further shown to stimulate collagen production and diminish wrinkles.
As one of the most well-known humectants alongside glycerine, hyaluronic acid is able to draw water molecules into the skin, giving it that moisturized, full look. One thing to note though is that the effects of hyaluronic acid are short-lived and will wear off over the course of the day, and so it’s best to reapply the product containing this ingredient regularly during the day.
Also known as vitamin A derivatives, this group of chemicals have long-proven anti-aging effects and are ubiquitously used in many night cream formulas. They work by encouraging cellular turnover, meaning you can shed the old, dead skin sitting on top of your epidermis faster and surface new, healthy skin cells from underneath.
Ceramides are a type of lipid that are naturally found in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin. It’s a key ingredient for maintaining the structural integrity of your skin can prevent the loss of water and continues to be an effective, intact barrier against extrinsic damage. Ceramides are perfect for replenishing dry skin to give you plump-looking skin, and for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
As you age, you might notice more dark spots appearing or even dark circles around your eyes. Treat them early and treat them fast.
I had a hard time placing vitamin C, because it’s actually a multifunctional ingredient. On one hand, it’s an effective anti-oxidant, and on the other hand, it’s used to brighten dark spots and to treat hyperpigmentation. You’ll find this in many types of products, but you could consider getting yourself a vitamin C serum for a more potent effect.
Both the alpha and beta forms of hydroxy acids, known as AHAs and BHAs, respectively, are great for exfoliation and treating skin pigmentation problems. To do these face acids justice would require an article in its own right, but here’s a few to look out in your creams, cleansers and peels: glycolic acid, lactic acid, azelaic acid and salicylic acid.
Also an effective anti-oxidant due to the polyphenols it contains green tea is also a stimulant that can energize your skin to bring back some zing. You’ll find the power couple of green tea plus caffeine in many eye creams.
While these ingredients will go a long way to keeping your skin looking youthful, you know just as well as anybody that aging can’t simply be “cured”. The best way to manage aging is to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle that includes healthy eating and exercise. If you’re ready to splash some money on skincare, then you want to make sure you’re doing your part to make it go the mile!
💖Creator Roundup 🏷 Cherie Made Me Buy It
Check out these creators profiles for their reviews on the cherie finds! @JadesJourney “I mentioned I was ordering a few of The Ordinary products a couple of weeks ago and Yay! they arrived last Friday. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I purchased three ordinary products because of reviews from fellow creators 🤗 thank you creators, and I’m interested in organic vegan 🌱, cruelty-free products. My haul included…” @HilaryStrano “While I love this app for more than one reason, the biggest reason is how we can learn from one another. I am very open about my struggles with eczema, rosacea, extremely sensitive skin so on one of my posts someone left a comment about adding collagen supplement. So I listened and here's what I found.” @pastelpink_bunny “This mini set is incredible! It contains their five best sellers for all skin types✨” @madihomewood “💔I’m pretty bummed about this eye cream tbh, I was so stoked about the brand (and should mention that I have been liking some of the other products so far) but this one really was a miss for me.”
We stan Pietro in this house 🤡💗
Continuing the ACNH series, today I bring you Pietro ❤️ my favorite sheep villager and overall best boy. Products used: ⭐️ Complexion products: •e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer •DIOR - Forever Skin Correct Concealer •essence - All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder ⭐️ For the teardrop, heart & nose: •Transcend Dance from COLOURPOP - In a Trance Shadow Palette •My Milkshake from COLOURPOP - Strawberry shake shadow palette •Daiquiri from the same palette as above. ⭐️ Highlighter (for the tip of the nose): •OFRA - Limited Edition Rodeo Drive Highlighter Ornament ⭐️ Brows: • ohii - Magic Hair Wand ⭐️ Lips: •The now discontinued NYX Whipped Lip & Cheek Soufflé in Molten Love 💋 ⭐️ Lashes: •I just went to my nearest beauty supply and picked the most dramatic lashes I could find! Brand is Cherry Blossom, they’re their 3D SILK LASH, style #003 For this look I did my face makeup as usual, just some light concealing, just powdering with a matte powder. I like to keep my brows sheer and fluffy when doing villager makeup lol 😅 I tried drawing the teardrop and heart on my cheeks freehanded but ya girl is not talented like that, so I decided to do cutouts of both and stick them to my face using washi tape so it’s easy to remove and won’t tug on my skin, then I just filled them in using the shadows I mentioned above from Colourpop. For my nose I used Daiquiri from the Strawberry Shake palette, which is perfect for this since it’s a pigment and you just need the tiniest bit! Then I added some highlighter just on the tip to make it pop 😋 For some reason NYX always discontinues the products I really like, so I can’t tag the exact product I used since you won’t be able to find it but honestly any red lipstick or cream you have will do the trick! Whenever I’m doing extra af makeup I like to wear extra af, dramatic lashes like these 😌 lashes always make the look in my opinion! These from Cherry Blossom are so soft, I wish the band wasn’t as obvious but the more you use them, the easier it is to apply them! And that’s it! Surprisingly, this look didn’t take as long as I thought it would but it is still cute and festive 🤡 Which villager should I do next? I already have some on my list, but I’d love to hear your favorites! 💗 #cheriepartner #cheriecreator
Briogeo Scalp Revival at the Sephora Sale
The November Sephora sale is coming up soon, so I wanted to tell you all about my thoughts on these Briogeo Scalp Revival products. Note: I will not be talking about the shampoo. I really love Briogeo as a brand. Their Curl Charisma line has really helped me bring my curls back to life. However, I have super sensitive skin all over my body and this includes my scalp. I have to treat it right or else I get HELLA itchy and I also get dandruff occasionally. Here are my thoughts and experiences with Briogeo’s Scalp Revival Conditioner and Scalp Treatment Serum: Briogeo Scalp Revival Conditioner: Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Peppermint Oil Cooling Jelly Conditioner ok, so you can clearly see that I’ve rated this 1/5 stars... but let me explain why: my hair is SO DRY. It’s really frustrating having to use lightweight products near my scalp, but having to use super thick creams on the rest of my hair. I thought this product might solve that problem by, you know, conditioning my hair a good amount all around. Nope. This conditioner has the same consistency as their shampoo, just minus the exfoliating beads...they describe it as a “gel conditioner” but it freaking lathers dude like a conditioner LATHERING?!?! No thank you. It dried out my hair so badly and did not give me any type of moisture whatsoever. So, obviously, this is not the right product for my hair type, but who would benefit from this? I would definitely recommend this conditioner if you have the oiliest hair on the planet. Like, wash your hair daily oily, no curl, no texture, just pin straight hair. That is the only type of hair I’d recommend this to. I got this in a travel kit (2oz) which I would recommend picking up if this sounds like your kind of product! Briogeo Scalp Revival Treatment Serum:Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum ok, so we are obviously full 180 here. Let me tell you about my lover. My partner in crime. The treatment serum. Oh my gosh. This has SAVED my scalp on multiple occasions. I use it every other time I wash my hair, so probably twice a month. It’s a lightweight serum that treats itchy and dry scalp but it doesn’t make your scalp oily AT ALL!! I love it. I part my hair into sections around the front hairline and crown where I get the itchiest, and apply it while my hair is wet after I get out of the shower. It’s kind of pricey (1oz for $32) but a bottle lasts forever for me. Like, at least a year! I highly recommend this for those with an itchy scalp. Ok, but why tea tree and charcoal? They have healing and cleansing properties for your scalp without being overly harsh or stripping to your hair. Briogeo’s products are 6-free: no harsh sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, no phthalates, no artificial dyes, no DEA. This supports healthy overall hair. Have you tried anything from Briogeo? #CheriePartner

🌟💎 A hidden gem in cherie giveaway prize
This is my night skincare routine for oily, combination , acne prone skin. These products are so good and help me lots with painful acne around jawlines. 🧖🏻♀️I use #Senka - SENKA All Clear Water Micellar White[products]#[FiveStars] ove my makeup. I like this one because it has green tea in it and very suitable for combination acne prone skin. 💜 Next, I use TATCHA - The Rice Wash Soft Cream Cleanser aka the perfect winter cleanser. Even my usually oily skin likes this. It’s very gentle, smells so so nice and luxurious. Lathers beautiful but still creamy. It cleanses your face as it should but doesn’t dry your skin out during winter. 💆🏻♀️For acne treatment, I exfoliate withCOSRX - One Step Pimple Clear Pads 2x/week and use LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment 3x/week but not in the same night. 🔥✨ Then we have this lovely moisturizer INDIE LEE - Daily Skin Nutrition I’ve tried many oil free moisturizer for my stubborn oily skin but nothing works. It’s always look dull and shiny in the afternoon. If you have the same issue this product is perfect for you. This moisturizer IMMEDIATELY sinks into your skin and keeps my skin hydrated all day. It makes my skin so soft, doesn’t feel sticky after applying, even suitable for sensitive skin. The only downside to this is it’s the scent. It smells kinda weird to me but will disappear after a few minutes. That’s all from me. Hope you like this post 😁 *Music: Together( Prod. by Lukrembo)
