⚫️Dark spots: what they are and how to overcome them!

We all want to feel comfortable in our own skin. But sometimes it can feel like our skin is working against us – particularly when it loses its even tone and dark spots start appearing. This can be incredibly frustrating and lead to a loss of confidence – in fact, dark spots on the skin are the most common reason why people seek out dermatologists for cures. 
The good news is, your dark spots don’t have to brandish your skin forever. With a good understanding of what might be causing these blemishes on the skin and how to effectively treat them your dark spots can soon be a thing of the past!
What causes dark spots on the skin?
You might not have heard of melanin before. Think of it as the captain of your skin. Melanin is the substance that is responsible for giving the skin its colour. We all need it. But we don’t need too much of it. Because an excess amount of melanin causes dark spots on the surface of the skin. 
Dark spots can appear at any time on the skin for a whole host of reasons. However, the most likely reasons your skin is showing dark spots are due to sun exposure, hormones and inflammation.
We all love a bit of sun. It brightens our day (literally!) But too much sun leaves your skin exposed to too many UV rays. When this happens, your skin naturally protects itself by producing an excess amount of melanin which absorbs the energy from the sun and distributes it around the body. This is why your skin tans when out in the sun for a prolonged period. However, if your skin is repeatedly exposed to the sun, in turn it will repeatedly be producing an excess amount of melanin. And, as we already know, this melanin will cause dark spots to appear on the skin’s surface. 
If you live in a climate where you are regularly exposed to the sun, make sure you shield the most vulnerable areas of your body: your face, the back of your hands, your shoulders and your arms. 
Dark spots might also be a result of increased hormones in the body. Hormones are essential for your body’s maintenance and will naturally increase during puberty or pregnancy. But these hormones can also set off an increase in production of melanin which can lead to hyperpigmentation on the skin surface. If you are lucky, as your hormones regulate the hyperpigmentation will disappear. But some are left with dark spots long after hormones have gone back to their normal levels.  
Suffering from inflammation or an injury is bad enough without having to worry about dark spots. But as the skin is healing from this inflammation or injury it can also offset more melanin production. In particular, those who are recovering from acne or eczema might start to see dark spots on their skin. 
How can you eradicate dark spots on the skin?
Fortunately, there are plenty of remedies out there that you can use to treat dark spots on your skin. 
Vitamin C
Firstly, vitamin C will help to regulate the levels of melanin in your skin while simultaneously stimulating collagen production. Not only will the dark patches in your skin begin to disappear, but you will also get the added benefit of healthier skin which looks plumper and smoother.
Retinol has earned a reputation for fighting signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles. But what you might not know is that it is also highly effective at evening out skin tone making dark spots less noticeable. This occurs because retinol regenerates the skin meaning that skin sheds dead skin cells and replaces them with younger cells at a faster rate. Meaning the surface of your skin remains fresher and less susceptible to dark spots!
If you look up Arbutin it is defined as a naturally occurring derivative of hydroquinone. That sounds very complicated, but all you have to understand is that when applied to the skin arbutin will inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase. This is important because tyrosinase is responsible for melanin production, which in turn is responsible for dark spots on the skin. Over time, arbutin will prevent any dark spots forming on the skin while also helping to fade any existing dark spots. 
Kojic Acid 
Kojic acid is widely known as a by-product of rice fermentation. But this is seriously underestimating its power on the skin. Kojic acid when applied to the surface of the skin is able to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin and reduce the production of melanin. Less melanin means less chance of dark spots appearing on your skin. 
Niacinamide is also known as vitamin B3 and is extremely useful for strengthening the skin. It does this by building up the skin’s barrier function. This means that alongside refining the appearance of pores and wrinkles, niacinamide will even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark patches.

Ever since I’ve added these two new products, I’ve noticed a couple new breakouts in places i’ve never experienced!!! They are red painful pimples too. Two on my forehead (I never get them there) , one on the outside of my nostril (i never get them there either), and the weirdest singular pimple on my NECK! Both of these products I have used on my face and neck, however, I’m not sure what product or ingredient is causing the sudden breakout!! Or is it just purging??? Help!!!!!! okay so i’m sorry for the light this week but i’m working on a work station. However this Morphe Maddie palette isn’t doing it for the me. In my opinion I believe to pull a good palette together is blend ability and good shimmer or glitters. The shimmers on the is so trash 🗑 sorry to say. i literally had to dig for a good creamy shine. However it isn’t a complete miss. The other colors did have some good pigment and my fav shade is the black shade. It was really dark and blendable. I would probably recommend this to someone with more fair skin because they pigments and shimmers would work better in their favor. Have you used this palette if yes tell me all about below, if no would you still wanna try it out and why ?
