Dry Skin No More: The Best Skincare Brands for Dry Skin

Jun. 23, 2020
These days it seems there are ample skincare solutions for individuals with oily, acne-prone skin; it feels like a new skincare brand dedicated to fighting blemished skin enters the market daily! But, what about those of us with dry, dehydrated skin?
Treating dry skin is tricky. The key: incorporating products into your skincare routine that restore the skin's moisture barrier. Far too often brands push products that contain superficial hydrators, which sit on the surface of the skin clogging your pores and creating an unhealthy dependency.
The following brands have very evidently dedicated research and development resources to create products specifically catered to dry, dehydrated skin. Join the ranks of true dry skin users who rave about these brands with a newfound luminous complexion.
Founded in 1851 as a New York apothecary, Kiehl's has a long standing reputation as a transparent, customer-first brand. Interesting fact: Kiehl's was the first skincare brand to list their ingredients on their packaging, even before the FDA required this from beauty brands.
Kiehl's is committed to restoring the skin barrier for improved radiance and overall skin health. Most Kiehl's products, regardless of intended skin type classification, are formulated to restore the skin barrier, which means that any Kiehl's product selection is a good selection.
The Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream ($32) is a fan favorite with a 4.75 star rating at 1.3K reviews on their site and over 200K reviews worldwide across ecommerce sites. The Ultra Facial Cream moisturizer is formulated with glacial glycoprotein, an ingredient derived from sea glaciers, and squalane, which is a highly effective moisturizer derived from olives. This unique ingredient combination hydrates the skin without leaving the complexion greasy or oily, providing the perfect solution to your dry skin woes.
A newer player on the block, Biossance is that brand you keep seeing on Instagram shelfies with beautiful, dark green glass bottles and minimalist lettering. You know what I'm talking about!
Biossance was founded in 2003, but they didn't initially start with skincare! The Biossance scientists first developed a technology that cured Malaria, which has been distributed 120 million times since it's approval. With a heavy focus on innovative science and sustainability, years later Biossance entered the skincare industry with a line of products unique in nature; every product in the Biossance lineup contains ethically sourced sugarcane-derived squalane, a naturally occuring moisturizer in the human body that depletes with age.
The Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer ($52) is a weightless gel containing probiotic technology that reduces the effects of daily stressors to eliminate redness and irritation. This moisturizing gel is the perfect solution to dry and irritated skin, restoring the skin's natural moisture barrier over time. If you don't want to take our word for it, check out the before and after photos on their website; this product is the real deal.
Peter Thomas Roth
Peter Thomas Roth is now a millennial household name with 100 products sold internationally online and in Sephora and Ulta stores.
PTR has a robust collection of products specifically catered to dry, sensitive skin called the Water Drench collection, which claims to lock in hydration for 72 hours with a liquid cloud of water vapor. Sign us up! The Water Drench Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($65) retains up to 1,000 times its weight in water from the atmosphere. According to a consumer perception study, 96% of users said their skin felt more hydrated. Any product from this collection is guaranteed to hydrate your dry, lackluster skin.
The Skinfix tagline is: "Become a Skincare Nerd." Boy, do they talk nerdy in the best possible way. Skinfix is committed to providing clean pharmaceuticals meaning that their products contain active ingredients approved by the FDA to treat specific skin conditions like eczema, burns, rosacea, and more, but they do not contain toxins, irritants and allergens.
Skinfix is getting a lot of publicity from key publications over the past year; the Barrier + Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream ($67) in particular won an Allure beauty award in 2019, which is a huge feat for a new brand. This peptide cream contains an active level of fatty acids including squalane, jojoba oil and macadamia oil, which all closely resemble the skin's lipid content making absorption much more effective. The active percentage breakdown is as follows: 3% skin lipids, 3% peptide proteins, 3% seaweed hyaluronic and 3% lily root extract. The clinical study for this moisturizing cream was incredibly successful with 94% of participants showing increased skin moisture after just one use! Only one use of the Skinfix peptide cream and your skin will look good as new.

Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩 “buh-koo-chee-all” HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I’ve already become a diehard Herbivore lover. So to receive this beauty was super exciting. When I started my acne journey on Cherie I was (and still am) a Differin Acne Gel stan. This was my choice of retinol and I wanted it strong to treat acne and boost my cellular turnover. Now that my acne is currently under control and it’s getting hot again, I definitely want something smooth and gentle. Bakuchiol is a gentler alternative to the very popular ingredient retinol. So essentially you’ll get overall youthful results for your skin. I haven’t tested this on my acne theory yet, but overall my face has been smooth and irritation free. This serum does not have a smell which I love for products of this caliber. I also love that it’s light and not drying at all. I use this at night and since i have a tolerance to retinol I use it every night. I haven’t been using it long enough to see results (about 12 weeks) but I definitely can’t wait to finish this. Have you tried Bakuchiol?
A Journey of Self 🌹
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.
I was so excited to try these out because I love moisturizers & I am always in search of a good one! These looked & sounded very promising! They’re from a woman owned company, completely natural, vegan, & cruelty free! However, I was quite disappointed. EARTH HARBOR - MERMAID MILK Nutrient Glow Moisturizer This moisturizer claims to give you a glow right away & it contains spirulina + matcha. I was excited about the matcha because it has so many amazing benefits for skin. It has a very whipped consistency which I like. However it always contains essential oils that were strong, although not toooo strong for my liking. But I’m really just not a fan of essential oils in my face creams. The moisturizer did make my skin appear a little brighter but the cream just sat on my face. All day long I could touch my face & still feel the cream sitting there! I hate that feeling! It also almost gave me a greasy appearance after a while? Not a fan. EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme This one was absolutely awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It says to use it at night time & the apply it at least 5 minutes before bed so it can absorb on your face & not your pillow. It contains Sea Retinol + other Superherbs which normally make me love a product! But that just wasn’t enough here. First, when I put it on my face my eyes started to actually burn & I felt suffocated from the scent. It was THAT strong. Guys, I’m not being dramatic at all. The smell like attacked me it was crazy! I have never had something like that happen with a face cream! I couldn’t believe how strong the fragrance was. & to top it off, it wasn’t even a pretty smell. My husband described it as smelling like floor cleaner. But I powered through. The longer I had it on, the more “used” to the smell I got. So, I wore it overnight. But then I woke up even more upset with it! I had pilling all over my face. It almost looked like my face was peeling but it wasn’t, it was jus the cream. One thing I cannot stand about a moisturizer is pulling. That’s enough for me to throw it out! It also didn’t really even moisturize my face that well! All in all, I hated this experience. But if you want, you should try them out for yourself, don’t let my experience deter you from trying something new! I however, will be sticking with my Youth To The People Dream Mask & Superfood Whipped Moisturizer! Love those two!!
