Struggling with Enlarged Pores? 3 Best Ingredients in a Pore Minimizer
Struggling with large pores despite an extensive skincare routine? Often, it’s not a question of whether you’re doing enough, it’s having the right ingredients to encourage your pores to shrink. Read on to discover the 3 best ingredients to find in a pore minimizer.
The human body is covered in pores – approximately 5 million of them. If you struggle with enlarged pores, you’re not alone, especially if you’re using products to treat it, but not seeing results. We see images all the time of celebrities with (ahem) airbrushed skin and wonder what expensive product they’ve got, but we haven’t.
Of course, while some of this is down the magic of Adobe’s Photoshop, some people really do have almost invisible pores, so how can we achieve that for ourselves? The answer lies in the ingredients of our skincare.
Why Do I Have Large Pores?
Many people think of pores as being “open” or “closed,” but this isn’t really the case. They do dilate like a camera lens or the pupil in your eyes, so large pores are a little like your camera’s lens getting stuck on wide.
Large pores can be caused by several factors, including oil and other impurities on the surface of the skin. When this happens, an unwanted mixture of dead skin cells, pollution and oil can sink into pores, causing congestion, which clogs up the pore. The oil produced by the sebaceous gland cannot flow freely as a result, so the pore stretches, which can give it the appearance of widening and deepening.
You’re also more likely to have large-looking pores if you have naturally oily skin, because oily skin overproduces sebum, which increases the likelihood of clogged and enlarged pores.
Large pores can also be caused by sun damage, aging, and genetics. Men are more likely to experience enlarged pores than women, and if your parent struggles with large pores, you may, too.
3 Best Ingredients to Find in a Pore Minimizer
While the causes of large pores are often genetic, you can definitely minimize the appearance of large pores with the use of skincare products that contain the right ingredients. Here are the top 3 you should be looking out for in a potential pore minimizer:
Ribose is a simple sugar and carbohydrate often obtained from corn seeds. It’s the only known cosmetic ingredient that is used by the skin cells to speed up cell turnover and control the restoration of energy. One study by skincare company Oskia even showed that the energizing action of Ribose stimulates the synthesis of all structuring proteins and limits the break-down of skin tissues. In other words, it can prevent the appearance of wrinkles. In turn, this elasticity can be an effective way of reducing the appearance of large pores.
- Lactic acid
Clearing build-up and congestion is the first step towards minimizing pores. This will keep the skin clean, ensuring that the pores don’t expand further, and is done by exfoliating the skin. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and is more hydrating and gentler than other alpha hydroxy acids. It’s naturally found in milk, though the lactic acid in today’s skincare products is synthetically produced. They are naturally-derived exfoliants that help to reduce the cohesion of dead skin cells and leave pore openings smaller and clear of debris.
- Red clover flower extract
Red clover contains powerful antioxidants and is often used as a remedy for irritating skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and rashes. Red clover extract also boosts circulation, which helps your cells work more effectively. In other words, it helps the body to clear skin conditions by moving the waste that builds up beneath the surface of the skin. Red clover extract can decrease sebum production and, as a result, reduce the appearance of conspicuous pores. This, just like Ribose, is particularly effective on aging and dry skin due to its stimulating and regenerative nature.
What else can I do to minimize my enlarged pores?
- Go easy on your skin. You’ve already put in all the effort of carefully selecting the perfect products for your skin, so continue this trend with your daily regimen. Use gentle, water-soluble products and, if you have particularly oily skin, avoid products that are overly emollient (thick and creamy).
- Look out for products that contain Niacinamide. It can help to increase the skin’s elasticity, which can reduce the size of enlarged pores, brighten skin and even out discoloration.
- Try clay masks. These can be great for absorbing excess oil and pulling impurities away from the skin, provided they don’t contain any harsh chemicals.
- Remember to take off your makeup! This sounds obvious, but going to bed without thoroughly removing your makeup will only clog your pores further, and potentially cause large breakouts.
- Continue to moisturize, even if you have oily skin. Moisturizing products actually help your natural sebum to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin. A lightweight moisturizer can reduce the appearance of oiliness, and also helps to condition your skin effectively, without overloading your skin with oil and grease.
If you select the right skincare products and don’t tackle the problem so aggressively that you make it worse, you should see your pores shrink, see reduced redness, and have fresher feeling skin!
Cosrx cotton rounds vs. Shiseido facial cotton🤍
☁️I ditched drugstore cotton pads a long time ago, I could never consistently find ones that didn’t flake & shred fibers onto my face. I have sensitive eyes & I absolutely hate getting anything stuck in there, I’m sure we all do. I don’t wear makeup much anymore, but having cotton pads that don’t shed or fall apart is so crucial for removing eye makeup! I mostly use cotton pads for my toning step. A good cotton pad will be absorbent, but not too much to be able to dispense your products across your face. 💦Pro Tip: If your cotton pads still look dirty or has traces of makeup after toning, this means your cleansing routine isn’t cutting it. Toning is not meant to further clean your skin after cleansing. Rather, toner meant to help rebalance skin & prepare it for your following hydration/moisture routine. 🚰 Toner is an important for me because I’m not super happy with my tap water quality. If I wouldn’t drink, I’m not thrilled about washing my face with it, but I’m not bougie enough to wash with Évian®😭 SHISEIDO - Facial Cotton $12/165 pads Description from Shiseido: This exclusive Facial Cotton is 100% natural and uniquely manufactured for a consistent soft, smooth texture. Allows for maximum absorption and assists in the application of Shiseido softeners. 165 sheets per pack. My review: I’ve been using these & loving them for years. It seemed like such a splurge to me when I first switched, but such an upgrade, I never looked back. They’re about 7 cents each, so it’s honestly not that bad if you’re sick of buying random cotton pads at Target/Walmart. (I checked prices a few mainstream brands like Equate & Q-Tips, which range from about 2-5 cents per) These are super soft! It doesn’t soak up too much product even though they’re plush, it gives it right back to, making toner an effective & enjoyable experience. I love they have no type of seam or edge, so there’s nothing but soft, fluffy texture☁️ COSRX - Pure 100% Cotton Rounds $12/80 pads Description from Cosrx: Soft, round cotton pad made of wavy patterned 100% cotton to mildly wipe skin without irritation. My review: Every once in a while I forget to add my usual Shiseido facial cotton to a Sephora order, so I decided to try something new in a Soko Glam order. These are double sided, one side is textured, one smooth. Technically these are twice as expensive per pad as Shiseido. Some of you may like the textured side for removing makeup or applying certain products, but I personally didn’t find it as an added plus. It’s not rough, but the smooth side isn’t as soft as Shiseido. They perform fine, but overall I like the softer, plush texture of Shiseido better. Cosrx has little seam edges I don’t care for. Results: Both held up equally well in all my tests. Swipe through the photos. I tried to see how much roughing up they could take & if they would flake or fall apart-they didn’t. Cosrx pads are slightly stronger, but both broke eventually💧
New Beauty Buys
As I usually share non-mainstream products with y’all, it’s exciting for me to share something a little more known! After my lengthy love for BITE beauty lip products, I’ve finally become an ambassador! And when I heard about their new Yaysayer Pumping Lipgloss launch, I was pretty stoked! They gifted me with two of their lipglosses in Cinnamon Twist and Plum Tart, which I would have bought anyway just to try. I’d definitely get Cinnamon Twist as I love me some nudes, but perhaps I’d get Cider Donut instead of Plum Tart. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this purplish tint. I expected the pigment to be quite strong, personally wish the Cinnamon Twist showed up in brown hues way more; however, it’s a great layer for nude lipsticks. The Plum Tart did not disappoint in pigment but I just have to get more used to wearing purplish pinks. As a lipgloss, I think it’s a pretty good product, nothing too extraordinary though. On the plus side, it’s not that sticky. But with the twist applicator sometimes dispensing a little too much product, I feel the product has the potential of running out quite quickly, which wouldn’t be worth $33 CAD. The good thing about the applicator is that it prevents the inner tube from getting contaminated, which allows me to peacefully keep the product longer if I don’t run out of it from frequent use. For sustainability purposes, I personally wish the applicator was made out of something more recyclable than plastic. But it is what it is for now! BITE - Yaysayer Plumping Lip Gloss
The correct order to apply your skincare
What is the correct order to apply your skincare products? This is one of the questions I get asked the most. With so many products out there, layering your skincare can seem really overwhelming. A general rule to follow is layer your products from thinnest to thickest, and apply your highest percentages of active ingredient products first for maximum absorption. 1. Cleanse- It obvious cleansing is the first step, but it’s important to understand your nighttime double cleanse. In the morning you will want to use a gentle cleanser which will not strip your skin of natural oils. At night, start with the creamy/oil cleanser first. This should be applied to dry skin so the rich texture is able to get your makeup and sunscreen off. Follow with a water based cleanser to get your skin super clean. Some favorites are: FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser 2. Masks- Your treatment masks should always be applied to clean skin. A creamy hydrating mask for dry skin, a clay mask for extremely oily skin, or an exfoliating mask like The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution to solve most skincare issues or just to maintain glowing skin. 3.Toners/Essences- The first of your leave- on skincare. This step is optional. Some swear by it and some skip on it. I absolutely love it and cannot skip this step. I have dry skin and when I apply my essence it feels like quenching my skin’s thirst. It also gives you damp skin for better product absorption for future steps. - Current favorites: BYROE - Bitter Green Essence Toner 4. Serums and Actives- You will want to apply the products with the highest concentration of active ingredients first. This way they are closest to the skin, and absorbed first. In the morning I apply my holy grail vitamin C first. SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum this is also the thinnest of my serums. You want to try your best to go from thinnest to thickest consistency. In the evening, you want to apply your chemical exfoliant (1-2 times a week) followed by the rest of your serums by consistency. 5. Eye Cream- I like to apply my eye cream before my moisturizer to ensure absorption. Depending on your needs and concerns some of my favorite eye creams consist of GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask perfect for dark circles, wrinkles and fine lines. 6. Moisturizer- It’s now time to layer on your cream- based products. Here you will also layer in order of consistency. Start with your gel- based cream and top off with your thickest moisturizer. Top it all off with your 7. Face Oil to seal your products in and in the AM with your SPF, the most important step to skincare.
I tried celebrity 156$ mask!!!😍✨ Is it worth it?
I tried this expensive mask from @111skin 😍✨ and I have thoughts about it! 111SKIN - Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask ✨What is it: The ultimate pre-event mask; this hydrogel formula infuses the skin with radiance boosting ingredients for a glowing complexion. It's not conventional paper sheet mask, it's actually made of hydrogel and that's what makes it special!!! Used by supermodels, celebrities and influencers ✨ Benefts: ROSE: A botanical extract high in antioxidants which helps to protect the skin against external aggressors. Rose also soothes irritated skin and reinforces the skin’s moisture barrier to prevent dehydration GOLD EXTRACT: A mineral extract that brightens, evens skin tone, and improves circulation. ARGIRELINE: A hexapeptide and substrate of Botulinum Extract that inhibits muscle contraction to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. ✨My experience and thoughts: -Does it really work? YES!! It truly works! I used it before going to vacay with my husband and it kept my skin brighter, plumper and hydrated throughout the vacay! Initially when I used the mask, the night before my flight it didn't feel like it's any extraordinary mask. It definitely hydrated my skin and made it look plumper instantly but all the claims took about a day to really show on my skin. When I put it on, it started to tingle a bit in my mouth area but not the burning sensation. It was sort of plumping my skin. I could feed it around my lips and chin. When I removed the mask, my skin was way more plumper than before. I guess that's how celebrities and influencers love it as it truly preps your skin for the big event. But, I would definitely say it works amazing for the next few days. My skin was brighter and looked well-rested for couple of days after I used this!! -Is it really worth 156$? Well, I would say you get 5 sheet masks for that price. One package contains 5 so it's totally worth the price. Also, a huge DEAL!!!! 😍❤️☑️ On Amazon the pack of 5 masks is available for only 32$. And yes, it's Authentic!! You can get single sheet masks on Amazon for lesser price, 20$. 😍✨ I think it's such a great deal. If you have any big event or occasion coming up, GET THIS MASK! You may not feel anything great going on but it surely will make your skin look amazing under makeup!! What do you think of this mask?? Would you try it?? 🤩
💥Only Cost $18!! 👉🏻Easy Hair Dye at Home
It’s been a long time since I wanted to dye my hair into blue. When I found that all the hair dye products were on sale at pharmacy, I knew that it was the time to go for it! 🙋🏻♀️What I bought： Schwarzkopf Brilliance Intense Colour Crème #91 *2 Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde L1 *1 Some garbage bags to prevent soiling clothes (I can hardly believe it only costs me $18 for all these things!) 🙋🏻♀️Colouring process： 1️⃣Put on the gloves, use Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde L1 first, mix the specific reagent according to the instructions, shake well and apply it to bleach your hair 2️⃣Spread evenly on the part that needs bleaching by hand or comb (I focused on the end of the hair) 3️⃣Hold on for 45 mins, then rinse directly with water 4️⃣Now comes the hair dye. Again, mix and shake it well, and apply it evenly. Here I use two boxes of colorings. For those with longer or heavier hair, you may need to use one more 5️⃣Put on a disposable shower cap, hold on for 45 minutes, then wash it without shampoo but conditioner in the box. Congratulations, you've finished this hair dyeing! 🙋🏻♀️My thoughts： Actually, I thought I failed at first because my hair looked black indoors. Unexpectedly, it looks good in the sun in blue and black. If you want a more obvious blue color, you can try Schwarzkopf No. 90 or other blue colors. For me, I am quite satisfied with this~
