The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (pronounced ‘Boom Boom’ for the British) is the award-winning best seller of Sol de Janeiro, the beauty body care brand which is famous for capturing the summer vibes and feeling in its packages, and for creating products inspired by the lush and natural joy of Brazil.
When Heela Yang, CEO & Co-Founder of the brand, first landed in Brazil, she still didn’t know that she was about to have the (beauty) business idea that soon became Sephora’s biggest ever seller in body care.
It’s all about attitude
Korean-American and former Clinique Lab director, Heela Yang moved to Brazil for love. She fell in love, got married, packed up and moved her life from NYC to Brazil. 
As soon as she got there, she was immediately fascinated by the Brazilian mood and way of life: “a contagious, joyful attitude that is everywhere”, as she states in the Sol de Janeiro website.
She was also very impressed by the Brazilian culture and, in particular, by the unique approach to beauty and to the body that women have in the land of samba and of teeny-tiny bikini.
In Brazil beauty is not a universal standard to reach but an attitude to take: it’s about confidence, self-love and body-love. It’s about joy, celebrating life, living a summer feeling that never ends. 
Heela immediately realized that there was something really different about women in Brazil. They were so sensual, so confident, and they were absolutely in love with their body, with their whole body, from head-to-toe. And this was totally different from what she knew and had experienced so far. Being Korean, she was mainly focused on facial skincare, beauty in Brazil was always about head-to-toe.
It was love at first sight and in 2015 Heela decided to capture the spirit and beauty secrets of Brazil and to create a brand that could encapsulate everything it meant to be a confident and beautiful woman. “Beautiful” in the Brazilian way and style, and this means fun, playful, and absolutely contagious.

This is the company claim we read in the home page of Sol de Janeiro website and it perfectly embodies the mission of the brand and the “beauty is an attitude” mindset that Heela decided to bring into life, combining her own Korean skincare know-how with the Brazilian skincare ingredients and way of life.
The brand has grown very quickly and just in few years they have gone from a three-product offering to a complete line up of mists, glow oils and shampoo and conditioner.

Alongside two other co-founders, Marc and Camila, Heela launched Sol de Janeiro in 2015, with the cult product “Brazilian Bum Bum Cream”, which soon became a top best seller and a real icon in the beauty industry.
The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream did not happen immediately, but it was a gradual process which took months. 
During their first meetings and creative brainstorming, the Sol de Janeiro founding team - Heela, Marc and Camila - spent a lot of time in defining the “whys” and what the brand stood for. 
When they came up to deciding that Sol de Janeiro had to become a definitive authority in “Brazilian sexy beauty”, it seemed obvious for them to focus on bodycare. 
And when it came to identifying products, they started wondering what part of the body it seemed that Brazilians were most obsessed and preoccupied with. That phase didn’t take long and it was then that they had the initial spark of genius: the conception and creation of a very specific bum moisturizer. 
It took quite some time to make the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream the perfect product that is today. The team spent some months perfecting the cream in every possible way: from using the most precious and effective ingredients to creating a fast absorbing texture and a buttery viscosity. The study of the fragrance too, was the result of a long process. 
Today the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is a beauty icon which breaks all sorts of rules - a yellow product called Bum, with the name written on the cap, not on the jar - but has established itself as one of the most popular and profitable product of the modern beauty industry.

Collagen has been a trending super ingredient for what seems like some time now! There are even brands (like Elemis and Algenist) who take this ingredient to a whole new level and create entire lines dedicated to them. I wanted to take a second and talk about what collagen can (and can’t) do for the skin. Collagen is a protein that provides structure to the majority of your body. It provides the firmness and strength of the skin. It is something your body produces naturally but at the age of 25 the production slows down. The skincare market has turned the term collagen into an anti-aging buzzword. I’ve seen many claims that it can help stimulate collagen growth but this isn’t true. The only thing topically applied collagen will do is moisturize the skin. It’s a great moisturizer at that but the molecule is too large to penetrate the top layer of skin therefore most “benefits” brands claim with it are not true. I wanted to break down some products that I’ve had the pleasure of trying (which were gifted by Elemis except for the little marine cream SPF 30 which I got in gratis) that contain collagen. Despite collagen not being the super anti aging powerhouse the market makes it seem to be I do like these products. First, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30 is a lightweight cream perfect for the morning. I have oily yet dehydrated skin but I’ve noticed as the weather has been changing it’s been slightly more dry so I’ve been using this. It absorbs really well and has a really pleasant berry smell (I don’t normally care for scents in skincare but I make exceptions as my face isn’t sensitized right now). Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Eye Revive Mask has been my FAVORITE go to night eye cream. It has a thick gel consistency which feels amazing under the eyes. It’s really moisturizing and luxurious. Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Ultra-Rich which I’ve personally been using as a neck cream at night. This cream has a thicker consistency compared to the regular marine cream making it perfect for those with dry skin. It’s very moisturizing and smells like the normal marine cream. Next, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Energising Marine Cleanser is something that I hate that I like it so much because it’s over priced for a cleanser (tbh everything Elemis is overpriced and I only recommend it if you have the money to spend/want to). It smells AMAZING like the marine cream (which I’m okay with since it’s a wash off treatment). It’s a gel consistency that lathers really well without stripping the skin. It does a really good job cleansing my face and I’ve yet to have it feel stripped. Finally, the ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm which I do think is very moisturizing like the whole line but it’s not my favorite cleansing balm. It washes off nice but it’s a bit goopy in consistency and the vapors irritate my eyes.

Such a good time to purchase from Tatcha! I grabbed a couple old 5 star favorites like the Gold Spun lip balm & their Japanese blotting papers, as well as some other things I’ve been wanting to check out. Tatcha is actually an American brand, made in Japan🇯🇵, that adheres to Japan’s official safety & purity standards, one of the highest in the world, much stricter than the US (for more on that, check out my last post, or the 2015 documentary on Netflix called Stink) They were recently acquired by Unilever, so I hope they don’t ever change their standards! Tatcha sources all of their botanical extracts, ingredients & actives from plants grown in the most renowned provenances of Japan. 🍵🍚🌊Their formulas revolve around key ingredients Green Tea, Rice & Seaweed, the trinity of superfoods, rich in both nutrients & Japanese history, based on a Japanese document from 1813 which captured the beauty rituals of the time. ➕Their 2x fermented ‘Hadasei-3 complex’ yields over 85 actives like Enzymes, Minerals, Lactic & Amino Acids. 🌸 note: two of the products in my picture are prescription only, high grade retinoids. but i have tagged their drug store dupes that are the SAME product with a lower concentration 🌸 WHAT IS A RETINOL? in the most basic form, a retinoid is a form of VITAMIN A which encourages skin cells to break down and turn over faster, resulting in reduction of acne, wrinkles, dark spots and signs of aging. It promotes collagen production, unclogs pores, and reduces scarring. its actually thickens skin, preventing wrinkles from forming ☀️☀️ALWAYS USE AN SPF WITH RETINOIDS☀️☀️ because your skin cells are dying and regenerating so quickly, you are much more prone to sunburns. And we know sunburns are literally life-threatening they vary HIGHLY in strength (weak to strong list)  - retinoid esters: The weakest version of a retinoid, but is good for sensitive skin, surface level  retinol: found in a variety of products, works on the cellular level of skin - adapalene (differin): Used to be prescription only but can now be found in a low-dose age in most drug stores. penetrates deeper and slows the production of sebum with faster cell turnover - retinoic acid (Retin-A/tretinoin): works deeper in the skin, can produce overnight results in the form of dead skin peeling. Very advanced skin cell turnover, as it penetrates and stimulates cell death and production. Skin can become very sensitive, irritated , and red - isotretinoin (Accutane): essentially sebum production is very limited and skin cell turnover is dramatically increased. on ingestible medication that will make your skin peel, dry out, and really kill acne. It’s prescription only but very effective. 🌸 products i use! prescription only: ADAPALENE 0.3% dupe: DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel ADAPALENE is the primary form of retinol in this product. this has been my go to product for years, it makes me less sun sensitive then Retin-A 0.05%, while still giving me excellent skin cell turnover and anti aging benefits. It helped my skin go from absolute shiz to a much cleaner glowing face (see 4th pic) prescription only: RETIN-A 0.05% dupe: janssen - Retino-A 0.05% Tretinoin Cream TRETENOIN is the primary form of retinoid in this product. these two may actually be the same product, but the one that I have I know is usually prescription grade. it will make your skin peel overnight, so I use it as a spot treatment if I get any deep set nodular acne. i used this for a couple years but it made me really sun sensitive, it is very strong! luxury brand: SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum RETINOL ESTER and CoQ10 are the primary forms of retinal in this product. this claims to have a 6.5% blend of stabilize retinoids and botanical retinoid alternative extracts. I think that it is incredibly overpriced for what it is. There are very similar dupes such as those from the inkey list and the ordinary

I know so many people haven’t had the chance to really dress up during covid and wear any makeup at all even with all the releases😭 Sometimes there are so many releases that it gets hard to keep track of everything and to really know where to spend your money so I’m here to tell you, this is where you really should 💸 Ived followed Vesca Beauty on IG since another influencer mentioned the bronzer like they originally released and the inclusivity with the shades really was the hype! Not only that but the inclusion and the quality of the products were amazing too so it’s a win win!🥳 After getting my hands on the two launches they had, I knew I needed more so I went out and bought their new highlighters and their latest release with their lip oils! 👏🏽 so here are some initial thoughts When it came to the lip oils, I really didn’t think much, I thought they maybe too slippery but that brown shade was calllllling my name and I knew I needed it and honestly it looked so beautiful on their model, I decided to go for it! ✊🏽 and I have to say, this is my new GO TO lip product! I’ve been obsessed with the fenty gloss bombs for years now but this has kind of replaced it for the time being VESCA - Lush Glow Creamy Lip Oil they are legging luscious like the name and super moisturizing and hydrating and pack a punch with colour but you can wear it sheer as well! I mean they are so soft and velvety without feeling like their is a ton of product on the lips! I’m thoroughly surprised As for the their highlighters, I really like the shade but just haven’t been able to play with them as much but they do have a a very buttery formula when using your fingers so as a eyeshadow, this will be gorgeous VESCA - Stargaze Luminous Glow I didn’t expect anything less from such an amazing brand and the size of these are just right as well! Not too big yet not tiny either cause really, who actually finishes an entire highlighter?🤭😉 #cheriepartner
