Glow Recipe: Everything You Need To Know About This K-beauty Brand
Originating in late 2014, the Glow Recipe has developed into a popular company worldwide through their steadfast dedication to helping users feel great about themselves. Of course, success at this scale doesn’t come without some effort. Founders Sarah and Christine surmounted challenges, meeting every obstacle with optimism and determination. Through their persistence, this fruit-forward skincare brand became a go-to beauty solution for countless households.
Glow Recipe’s journey to greatness as a natural beauty brand began when two friends were having an at-home spa day. The brand itself is all about helping users embrace their natural beauty. It’s founded on the importance of bringing the natural glow and spark inside of everyone to the surface - what true beauty is all about.
One fateful day when Glow Recipe’s future founders were doing sheet masks and enjoying a glass of wine, they stumbled onto a glorious idea. It forever changed the trajectory of their lives. The brand originated with eight specialty items, with the founders packaging each order manually. They quickly became popular on a small scale through their vision of natural, fruit-powered beauty items. Of course, this merely spoke to the potential of their company. With long-term greatness in mind, Sarah and Christine proceeded to scale their business (with a little help from the experts).
Meeting The Sharks
In December of 2015, the pair of entrepreneurs went on Shark Tank, during an open call. After waiting in a massive line (and knowing a deal could be out of reach) they auditioned. Despite a less than successful pitch, the duo received an invitation to submit a video detailing their goals. After a few months passed, Sarah and Christine were still hard at work on Glow Recipe when they received an invitation to appear on Shark Tank in Los Angelas. After a grueling interview with five of the fiercest business people in America, the founders’ candor and energy got them a deal. Before they knew it, the beauty enthusiasts were in the big leagues.
Growing and Glowing
After a couple of years, the company grew into a multi-million dollar beauty brand. Their big break on Shark Tank encouraged the founders to continue striving for greatness. Without abandoning their steadfast dedication to fruit-forward skincare, they began to curate a larger line of beauty products. Focusing on research and development out of Korea, Glow Recipe went through over 1,600 different formulas and almost 50 packaging selections before coming up with the perfect products. During this time, the founders took eight trips to Korea - dedicated to ensuring everything was exactly as it should be. Accepted into one of the most prestigious beauty product retail outlets, Sephora, their cleaners and sleep masks became must-have household items. While gaining this new achievement, the pair continued to work on creating new, modern products to meet every possible skincare demand.
Expanding and Exploring
Based on the initial success of the brand, Glow Recipe launched a sister company called Sweet Chef. Instead of fruits, the associated company leans into the health benefits and values of vitamins and veggies. It marked a high point for the pair of entrepreneurs, as their original company was so successful it actually inspired the creation of a skew. It was in early 2019 that the Glow Recipe officially took to the international beauty market by storm. With a presence in Cult Beauty, Douglas, and Mecca Beauty, the brand became a recognized name globally, gaining repute as one of the most sought after natural beauty companies.
Most Popular Items
Glow Recipe is so popular that their Pink Juice Moisturizer actually sold out within the first couple of hours of pre-orders. Highlighting the world’s enthusiasm about these high-quality products, their items continue to sell quickly. Despite this ongoing success, Sarah and Christine continue to develop new products, infusing their passion for excellence into everything they create. Learning a lot throughout the process, over the almost six-year journey, the founders decided to put their entire focus into creating products for Glow Recipe Skincare and its sister brand, Sweet Chef. What began as a humble initiative turned into a successful career in one of the most challenging industries out there.

Some Final Thoughts
Essentially, the tale of Glow Recipe’s founders is a story of passion, friendship, and dedication to success. It’s a testament to the fact that greatness is attainable for anyone with the drive to see it through. Sarah and Christine had an innovative idea - seeing a market for fruit-powered beauty which had yet to be tapped. Their story shows that with a great idea and the determination to bring it into reality, you can change both your lives and the world. Glow Beauty continues to be a popular choice in skincare, while remaining true to its original goal of offering natural beauty driven by the diverse healing properties of this wonderful planet.
THIS DERMATOLOGISTS FAVORITE NEW CLEANSER
Cleansers are an essential step in everyone’s skincare routine, but it can be difficult to find the right one for your skin. The new Aveeno Calm + Restore nourishing oat cleanser has been my new go-to daily cleanser and I love it. ❤️🙌 Aveeno has always been a brand to create formulations that target dry and sensitive skin and this cleanser is no different. This cleanser is great for people all skin types but would likely benefit dry or combination skin most. The incorporated oat complex helps restore build the skin’s moisture barrier and soothe itchy skin. There is no stripping effect with this cleanser, which is something too always look for with your cleanser. Other pros about this product are its fragrance free (limiting any irritant reactions) as well as great pricing. On amazon, you can find a bottle for under $10.‼️‼️ TRUTH: If you are trying to fight acne or blackheads I recommend against this cleanser and try finding something with salicylic acid. Have you tried the new Aveeno cleanser? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! ⤵️
Why pH of skincare products is important?
The pH is defined as the negative logarithm (base ten) of the concentration of free hydrogen ions in aqueous solution. The pH of skin surface ranges from 4.5 to 6 making it slightly acidic. The acidic nature of the whole skin surface was first claimed by Heuss in 1892; however, the first scientific study was carried out by Schade and Marchionini in 1928, who called it the acid mantle. The “acid mantle” protects the skin by inhibiting the growth of pathogenic organisms, regulating keratinization, desquamation and wound healing. Any disruption in the acid mantle disrupts the activity of enzymes involved in barrier function and anti-microbial protection. The skin pH and the buffering capacity of the skin surface are made up of the components of the stratum corneum as well as the secretions from sebaceous and sweat glands. Sweat is an important contributor towards skin acidity owing to its content of amino acid, lactic acid, and urea, which supplement skin NMF levels. The formation of stratum corneum barrier requires enzymes that are pH dependent. Two lipid-processing enzymes β-glucocerebrosidase and acidic sphingomyelinase require a pH of 5.6 and 4.5, respectively. An increased skin surface pH activates enzyme serine proteases, which causes degradation of corneodesmosomes and affects the skin barrier. pH also has a big impact on the skin microbiome. The bactericidal activity, because of dermicidin and nitrites in sweat, occurs optimally at pH 5.5. The resident bacterial flora changes as pH increases causing increase in population and activity of P. acnes and Staphylococcus aureus which are responsible for acne and eczema. All these result in contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, acne vulgaris and Candida albicans infections. Products with high pH cause swelling of skin follicles affecting the permeability of the skin making it dry, sensitive, and susceptible. Most of the skincare products are formulated within the pH range of normal healthy skin except the exfoliating products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s), Vitamin C products and chemical peel which work at low pH. Facial oils, cleansing oils, balms are not pH dependent.
