Power of Personal PrideNo Parades? No Pride? Not a Problem! Thoughts on how to celebrate Pride amidst a pandemic.

Pride month has always been a time for celebration, the one time of year where you can feel safer being you. We take to the streets to celebrate each other and enjoy the fact that we’re able to exist out loud. Even if the rest of society is hostile, we know that in these celebratory spaces we’re among family. What happens when that is suddenly taken away? When we’re no longer able to congregate en mass, is there still Pride? Coronavirus has created a situation where so many people are trapped at home and potentially separated from the safety of their community. Many of us are swimming in hostile waters right now, with nothing but ourselves to keep us company. It could be bigoted family members, distance from our partner(s), or just not being able to go out and be around people. No matter the case, here are a few reminders of how much power you have as an LGBTQ person. You don’t have to be present to be present with each other. Even if we cannot see each other face to face, LGBTQ people are creative when it comes to being seen. We have online networks, we have our phones, we have so many ways to stay connected with each other. We have found ways to be loud and proud about our lives through magazines, through film, through every medium available to us! Whereas society has sometimes tried to push us out, we said “No!” and did everything in our power to deny that! Don’t be afraid to be creative during this Pride month. It doesn’t take talent or skill to be an artist or write out your thoughts and feelings, just do what feels right and it’ll be alright. You can still be loud and proud about Pride. Being loud is what prompted the many riots that formed the origins of Gay liberation in America and around the world. From the Compton Cafeteria Riots, Stonewall, to today, LGBTQ people have always had a personal pride that propels them forward. It takes a lot for a person to say “Enough” and put themselves at risk of police brutality. It takes so much strength to look in the face of a society that hates everything about you and want a different world for yourself. You can still spread information about key historical figures in the LGBTQ movement. You can talk to your family, if they’re not awful, about what it’s like being LGBTQ. Taking personal pride in the beautiful history you have with this community is just as important as taking to the streets in a parade. Taking care of your mental health is important. Isolation can do numbers on a person’s mental health. The same could be said for a community that exists as a minority within society. When was the last time you checked in with a friend or community member? Has anyone checked in on you recently? Coronavirus may have made large gatherings more difficult, but we can still exercise caution and see each other on a smaller scale. Do that, take the proper precautions, and make sure you’re not spending too much time alone. A community is only as strong as its weakest member, and it’s up to us to take care of each other. Pride is more personal this year, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t be there for each other in a myriad of ways. There won’t be any parades, but that also means there won’t be anyone around to co-opt our experiences in the name of making money. This year is going to be different; we’re going to celebrate Pride organically and without as many distractions. I think that can be a good thing for everyone. When Pride comes around next year, we’ll all be a little bit better taken care of as a result. Be it by our own self or by the community around us, our pride will always be there no matter the circumstances.

Multi-purpose hydrating toner essence
The ROVECTIN - Rovectin Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion is a multi purpose toner and essence that uses their own barrier repair complex to provide the skin with deep hydration, anti-aging, antioxidants, and mild exfoliation benefits. There are a ton of amazing ingredients in this such as niacinamide, adenosine, caffeine, various molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, allantoin, panthenol, arginine, licorice root extract, matricaria flower extract, centella asiatica, soybean sprout extract, papaya fruit extract, sodium pca, trehalose, and sodium polyglutamate. This has a very viscous and weighty texture that instantly wraps your skin in a hydration veil after application. It takes a bit to seep into the skin but it delivers a ton of hydration leaving a light tacky finish afterwards like most hyaluronic acid toners. I find that applying this on slightly damp skin helps lessen the time it takes for it to absorb. This reminds me of the hada labo goku-jyun premium toner (the gold bottle) in terms of how it feels on the skin except it’s slightly less viscous than hada labo. So I found that this can be a bit heavy for oilier skin types which is why I recommend applying on damp skin to help reduce the heaviness while still locking in extra hydration. Those with drier and dehydrated skin will definitely love how hydrating this is as it’ll quench your skin’s thirst. The mild exfoliation from the papaya fruit extract is also quite gentle and hasn’t caused any irritations or dryness on my skin. This didn’t cause me to breakout either. Overall, this is an amazing toner that any skin type can utilize but those with dehydrated skin will appreciate this greatly. My skin enjoyed this but I’m not sure I’d rush to repurchase this just yet. If you’re in the market for a new multi purpose, gentle, nourishing, and hydrating toner then give this a try. Have you guys tried this yet? If so, any thoughts? Rating: 4/5 🌟 #CherieCreator #Rovectin
Honest thoughts on Curology 🧐
𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 is a customized skincare subscription service - i’m sure we’ve all heard of it! Ever since I learned about prescription tretinoin, I knew I had to try it. I like that Curology can prescribe Tretinoin through an online consultation so it saved me a lot of money. I signed up and I received my first bottle in the first week of 2020. 𝐌𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 & 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬: I have combination, sensitized, acne-prone skin with PIH 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭: I used two formulas: First month (January): Tretinoin 0.01% , Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid 4% Next two months: Tretinoin 0.018%, Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid 8% *NOTE: I specifically asked for tretinoin and azelaic acid * I have been using Adapalene for two months before I started Curology and was at the purging stage. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: My free trial arrived the first week of January and I tried it right away. As per the instructions, I washed my face with a gentle cleanser, applied moisturizer then the cream. I used it 2x a week. I was alternately using it with Adapelene. For the first month, the effects weren’t super obvious - other than my skin becoming smoother and softer feeling than it ever had before. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: I think my skin was at its worst in my second month of Tretinoin (4th month adapalene). I had more cystic acne and I was literally red all day -- I like to call it my full-on purging stage. I just stuck to it anyway. By this time, my skin was also feeling dry and I had slight peeling. My routine was: cleanser, thick moisturizer, and tretinoin. I was using my formula 3x a week. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: The last weeks of the third month was when I saw the big changes in my skin. I was able to use the cream nightly by this time. Only word I can use to describe it is - shocked. I went from having cystic, red acne and rough patches to having smooth and completely calmed skin. Though left with hyperpigmentations, my skin was better than ever. 𝗪𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐰: After 3 months with Curology (with simplified skin care routine and adapalene) almost all of my cystic acnes were gone. Something I had thought months ago never would be possible. In April, I started my Triluma journey (tretinoin 0.5% + hydroquinone +mild steroid) to treat the hyperpigmentations left behind. I finished my tube last May and from then on used another brand of tretinoin (0.5%) for maintenance and to treat PIH. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: All I gotta say is that Curology is a great service, for most people. Unfortunately there are some of us for whom the base and/or certain ingredients simply won't work, and I believe that's no fault of Curology. I thoroughly recommend Curology. It’s a great option to get our hands on prescription strength products, like Tretinoin cream, without paying for an expensive private consultation.
Face Sunscreen that Hydrates & Protects! ☀️
It can be hard finding the right face sunscreen. There are SO many out there! Well let me tell you about PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ What is it? - A water-based sunscreen formulated with Centella extracts that help protect your skin from UV rays and harmful environments without stickiness or white residue left on the skin. It does not contain any essential oils or artificial fragrance, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. It uses SPF50+ PA++++ and photo-stable UV filter to provide soft yet powerful protection from ultraviolet rays. Is it safe for sensitive skin? - Purito excludes all the components of most common chemical UV screens that aggravate acne and irritate sensitive skin, such as Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, 2-methylbenzylidene camphor, Oxybenzone, and Abobenzone. Instead, they exclusively use EWG Green Level Grades 1 and 2 ingredients, making sure the product is suitable for all skin types. How does it work? - Unlike other sunscreens that form a physical layer to ensure UV protection, this product is absorbed into the skin where it transforms UV rays into harmless heat, so you don’t feel it on your face. Moreover, with its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream, making it even easier to apply natural makeup. What’s in it? - This product contains Hyaluronic acid that helps retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the skin cells, as well as Centella asiatica extract that restores the oil/moisture balance of the skin and helps the formation of collagen which gives the skin its elasticity. In other words, it has all the necessary ingredients to keep your skin healthy and well moisturized. My review- - I purchased this product after seeing Skincare by Hyram and Whatsonvisface recommend it! I had been using Rodan and Field’s Soothe Sunscreen, but wanted something that did not sit on the skin, yet still provided hydration. I am treating my acne with clindamycin and tretinoin so I needed a sunscreen that hydrates and soothes my skin, while not clogging my pores. This sunscreen does exactly that! It rubs onto my skin so easily. It’s the perfect consistency, not too thin but not too thick. It provides hydration and protection, without being sticky or sitting on the skin. The lack of essential oils/fragrances, plus the addition of centella, means it’s non-irritating. It also contains niacinamide, which is perfect for acne-prone skin! Since I have dry skin, I use it in addition to my moisturizer, but I think if you have oily skin you could just use the sunscreen since it’s so hydrating!
Night Owl must have: eye patches 🦉
One thing everyone in real life knows about me is I don’t get sleep. Whether it’s staying up all night (once upon a time my bed time was 5 am - 12 pm. Oof) or just physically not being able to fall asleep it can still take a toll on your skin. When asleep our skin takes the time to properly repair itself. When you don’t get enough sleep it can have negative effects like depleting the moisture levels in your skin giving it a dull look. One thing I like to do to help combat that is eye patches. Eye patches have long been a favorite spa night product for me but recently I realize how much they can help in the morning while I was getting ready. For me they add a cooling effect to the skin which can help depuff the under eyes before make up application. I also really like them because most have glycerin which will help add that hydration back into the delicate under eye area that wasn’t replenished throughout the night. The ones pictured above all include caffeine which helps the look of puffy eyes, soothes, and has antioxidant properties. Also, I love using them as shadow shields for make up fall out. It’s so easy to pop them on while I’m doing my eyeshadow. It multitasks by saving me time in the morning while depuffing and protecting my skin from eyeshadow fallout. (For reference I usually do my eyeshadow before I do my base. I wouldn’t recommend doing this on top of foundation). My absolute favorite are the PETER THOMAS ROTH - Cucumber Hydra-Gel Eye Masks 60 Masks . Between the cucumber and caffeine these do the best at hydrating and depuffing my under eyes in morning. Though retailing at $52 for 30 pairs it is a bit pricy. My next runner up is the pixi - Detoxifeye which retails for $24 for 30 pairs. I do want to give a special shout out/wanting to the GOOD MOLECULES - Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches retailing at $18 for 30 pairs. While I do really like the depuffing effects I get from these I noticed every time I wore these and did my concealer it would pill up. I would recommend these to people who don’t wear make up but if you do I would be cautious. If you wanted to try these I would make sure you do a good job at making sure no excess serum is left over before make up application. I always end up using these at night for that reason which defeats the purpose of using them to depuff the eyes in the morning.
Gentle exfoliator for sensitive skin 👌🏻
DERMAFLASH - Ultrasonic Pore Extractor & Serum Infuser 𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬: A two-in-one skincare device that uses ultrasonic waves at 33,000 Hz per second to unclog pores and infuse your favorite skincare products. Dermapore offers 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬 for a customized treatment experience: 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞 - cleans your skin by removing dirt, oil, and blackheads. 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞 - enhances the penetration of active ingredients. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞: 1. Press the Power Button once to activate Extract Mode which is indicated by a steady vibration and white light. 2. Apply gentle, yet firm pressure as you glide the device over your face and neck. Pay particular attention to congested areas. 3. After using Extract Mode, wipe the device clean with alcohol or soap and water to prepare the device for use in Infuse Mode. 4. Apply your favorite serum or moisturizer. 5. Press the Power Button twice to activate Infuse Mode which is indicated by a tapping vibration and blue light. 6. Using the flat portion of the spatula, glide dermapore over your serum or moisturizer—the ultrasonic vibration enhances penetration of the active ingredients in your skincare to help them work more effectively. I have been using Dermapore for months now, and I absolutely love it. It took 2-3 runs to figure out how to use it effectively. I was honestly quite surprised by how effective this product was at unclogging my pores. I have a congested and very oily T-zone and this little charm cleans out 90% of the gunk from my nose with ease. I don’t steam my face and straightly just wet my face and it still works great. I keep a small spray bottle at hand and spritz my face to keep my skin wet throughout the process. I like to use a little pressure with the spatula as it helps push the water into the skin and in turn pushing excess dirt/oil buildup out of my pores. It’s kind of gross but incredibly satisfying and gives you the results you’d expect from a professionally done facial. If you have very minimal blackheads or whiteheads, this may not be that worth it. But if you’re someone who has oily skin that constantly deals with comedones, this can be a game-changer for you.
