Beyond the Gay Pride Parade, Showing Solidarity with Black Lives

The Gay Pride Parade is canceled, so in the spirit of its founding protests, now is time to support Black Lives.

Cherie is an online community of beauty lovers sharing their stories; whether that's their favorite products, makeup tutorials, or skincare routines. Download the app today to be a part of #BeautyWithoutBarriers and show the world what beauty means to you!The coronavirus has canceled this year's Gay Pride Parade, but with the most recent--and sadly customary--rash of violence against Black men and women, perhaps that is for the best. Getting sloppy and loose on a weekend-long pub crawl loses its appeal when you realize that one of your friends might get hurt for doing something as innocuous as checking their phone. How is it possible to show pride when people are routinely murdered for being who they are? It flies in the very face of the parade’s meaning. What does it mean to show Pride and where does it come from? The first Gay Pride Parade I attended was in New York City during the summer of 2001. Coming from a conservative family, I did not understand what was going on until a hairy man grabbed me, planted a sloppy kiss on my forehead, and declared “Stand up tall, gorgeous! This is for us!” And all at once I got it: this was a day for same-gender-loving people and their fans to lustily crow that anything goes, without feeling shame. 51 years ago, when trans-activist Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera threw the first blows of defiance against the police officers who were raiding their hangout spot--the Stonewall Inn--few could have foreseen the strides that gay rights would eventually make. Queer men and women still face discrimination, but the ability to show affection to each other publicly and to marry without being penalized legally is a sign that society is making progress. If only that was true for Black people, who are frequently scorned for insisting that their lives matter in stark contrast to the existential threats they experience everyday. That’s why it feels right that this year’s parade has been supplanted by protests against systemic brutality. Perhaps this will help remind people what Pride is really about. After all, it's an echo of the Stonewall Riots' launch on the heels of the Civil Rights Movement, after years of suffering police-sanctioned gay bashing.

Joining forces to cancel discrimination and create a greater celebration.I love a party, but in recent years, commercialization has reduced the parade to a liquor sponsored hook-up fest. And while the day’s raison d'être is to celebrate your fabulosity, doing so while discrimination reigns feels wrong. As a sign of support for Black lives, the Gay Liberation movement should officially add a black stripe to its rainbow flag. Given the death of Black trans man Tony McDade, who was shot by police in Florida last week, and the brutal attack on Black trans woman Iyanna Dior--who was beaten while protesting in Minnesota on Monday--there is a clear intersection between issues that continue to devastate both communities. Maybe that’s the way to return Pride to its roots: Black and Gay allies marching arm-in-arm as they wave a new flag of liberation in solidarity for freedom. "No justice, no peace! We're here, we're queer! And we're not going away!" Imagine two of the world's most marginalized groups declaring that however you present--whether Gay, Black, White, or Straight--you are beautiful, exactly the way your are. The statement would be unstoppable. Even without the coronavirus, we couldn't possibly hold a gay pride celebration without first protesting to abolish discrimination. We can always party, but not before proudly declaring that police brutality and oppression are canceled. Let’s hope 2020’s pause means that 2021 is the year that we all live proud and out loud!

Blast Combo! 👍 Tik Tok Flawless Brush Review
#Shu Uemura - petal 55 foundation brush[products]#[FiveStars] #Shu Uemura - Ultimated Foundation[products]#[FiveStars] This is called the flawless foundation brush and it just recently went blast on tiktock and I’m here to try it out, and share my first impressions and overall thoughts about this. One thing that’s amazing to notice here is that I have washed this many times and it still looks like new. The bristles have never fallen out. It has a 50,000 reviews on tiktok. I have this Shu umbra makeup on my had. and im gonna apply this foundation with their brush. I know that it doesnt have to the the same foundation. And it is not necessarily the case here. Since it is actually the brush that we are mainly reviewing. It just my theory and I always believe that same branding works way better than other combos. For the actually application process, I just blotting it all over my face (I also put some foundation on my neck just for the overall look). I put 2 pumps with this foundation and brush. It feels very soft when you actually applying. With bare fingers I normally put one pump, with makeup applicators like sponges and brushes, I found that they take away at least 1/3 of the product, so I normally apply more when using those tools. Similar to a sponge, I just blend the foundation with this brush all over my face. I kind of go a second layer with leftover on my hand and do that on the areas that I do not have enough coverage on my face. And I have to say, I am impressed. Comparing with beauty sponges, it absorbs less product. I was really surprised that there was no streaks at all. If the foundation is too thick, it might leave some streaks and you can press it with this brush to get rid of that. Overall this brush is way over my expectation and does an amazing job. It is not cheap but you can definitely found similar product on Amazon for a better deal.

MAC - Studio Fix Sculpt & Shape Contour Palette I think this is hands-down the best contour make up kit on the market right now. This is technically something that you could use all over the skin. There are 3 highlighter shades that are fantastic for setting and brightening and 3 contour shades with matte and shimmer finishes that you can use to contour different areas. All the shades are gorgeous it’s a very light contour kit it goes on smooth. I love the ways it looks on my skin. As you can tell from the picture, it is not as pigmented as ionic, but still these soft shades work absolute dream and has just the right pigment tones for my skin without looking orange or muddy. It is great for everyday look and gives you that healthy clean makeup finish. On the other side, because it is powder you have to really layer for a more dramatic look. The powders are soft and finely milled. I guess it’s the formula that makes it so easy to blend. One of my favorite things about this palette is that it is very buildable. It’s not highly pigmented. You don’t pick up too much product at once The shades are versatile to accommodate many skin tones. With all these 6 shades and no matter what skin tone you are, there is definitely something there for you. it gives you so many shade options for if i want a soft contour or a sharp chiseled contour. They blend out so nice in the skin and almost melt into the skin. And you can do so much with this. The packaging is looking sleek for the amount that you are getting here and the value definitely worth the price. I would recommend this palette to people just starting out, and trained professionals.
Liquid Shadows - The Easiest Look Evvvaaaa
Liquid Shadows - The Easiest Look Evvvaaaa
I’m a big fan of shimmery liquid shadows because they’re easy to apply and look like you put in way more effort into your eye look than you actually did. Liquid shadows all feature some sort of doe foot applicator that you can apply directly to your lid, finger, or brush. Tap out with your finger for more color or a brush for a more soft, diffused effect. Adding a second layer will also intensity the color. Heck, you could even layer different colors for a custom color! These are some of my favorites in my collection. Most are higher end and mid-range, but you can sometimes get these on sale and I also encourage you to try drugstore formulas like Wet n Wild and ELF. My favorite way to wear these is on their own, but you can also add some powder shadow into your crease and/or outer corner depending on the look you’re going for. Swipe for swatches and looks wearing 3 of these over the last few days! Top to bottom: Kosas - 10-Second Eyeshadow in the shadows “globe” (chestnut) and “supreme” (deep gold)- love the lightweight, buildable but easy to sheer formula, but color range is limited and these are definitely a splurge item at $27 each. “Globe” was sent to me by the brand, “supreme” purchased by me. Colourpop x Zoella supernova shadow in “bellini”. I somehow missed that Colourpop no longer sells these shadows?!?! Sorry about that.. This was part of a creator collection with Zoella. The formula is super easy to work with and reflective (see eye look). These used to retail for $8 or $9. Bummer they’re not available anymore... You may be able to find on EBay, Poshmark, Mercari, etc. COVER FX - Shimmer Veil in the shade “amethyst”. I have 4 of these shimmer veils. This color is my favorite. It’s a soft purple that compliments my brown eyes and offers shimmer without being gaudy. The formula is nice, but not consistent across all colors. I have a very pale pink that cracks and makes my eyelids look 80 years old, but this color and the other 2 (not featured) don’t do that. These are not worth $28 each. Get on sale or look for a minis set. Glossier. - Lidstar in the shades “cub” (rose gold) and “fawn” (taupe purple). Glossier has a deal where you can purchase 2 for $30, which was okay by me. Both colors are stunning and can be sheered out or built up. You don’t need a primer - they last all day on their own. The shade range is limited, so I hope thar Glossier expands in the future. stila - Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in “starlight”. I LOVE this formula. It’s worth the money in my opinion, and especially awesome if you can find at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s for 1/2 price like I did. I have purchased other shades at full price ($24) and used them up! My true faves are “cloud” and “grace” but I haven’t replaced them yet. I much prefer this formula vs the glitter formula because those required glitter glue and dried out super quick. What’s your fave?
🖤 DIY Almond black nails on Press-Ons 🖤
🖤 DIY Almond black nails on Press-Ons 🖤
The struggle to grow your nails and not break them is real. I rubbed them with castor oil all the time, but they just kept going *snap*. But I have small nail beds, and the almond shape is my favorite. And by painting press on nails, I think I saved time and money. I did it in 2 steps: 🌟 Step 1) Glue your press-ons. I used the KISS - Kiss Salon Acrylic Natural Nails Forbidden Stiletto Shaped Nails from Amazon. I had to shave the edges of the smallest nails to fit mine, but the acrylic material is REALLY strong. I can hear the click clack of my nails on my phone while typing 😆 It comes with a glue I just applied directly to my clean nails. Then you need to act fast- press the acrylic firmly on your nail. It’ll be dry in 10 seconds, really. Careful, though~ It CAN tug and bond your skin together 👎🏼 my only criticism besides size is that the glue stick hurts to squeeze. It’s tiny and tough to release a little bit at a time, but still- a softer grip would be nice. 🎨 Step 2) Paint time I used the Sally Hansen Xtreme wear polish in 629) Black Out. 🌑 Here’s a review of each: ORLY - Bonder Base Coat, Clear One of the best base coats imo. With regular polish on my natural nail, this has prevented chipping for up to 5 days. It has a tiny orange tint, evening out nail tone like a primer. Sally Hansen - Xtreme Wear Nail Polish In two coats, this black was super opaque. It’s a true black, not blue-tinted or brown. But as shown in pic 3, 1 coat is a little translucent under the sun. The polish also smells more like chemicals, stronger than other brands. Still, it delivered in the color department. essie - Gel.Setter Top Coat I love this little one. It’s thick and viscous, but way glossier than traditional lacquer top coats. It made my nails shine like a mirror. Don’t lay it all at once to avoid air bubbles, but pick this up if you like extra glossiness. 🌰 On nail shapes: Almond Some people label this as stiletto nails. I think it’s more almond because the end is round instead of sharp and pointy Almond nails give the illusion of a longer nail than square, oval, or ballerina nails do. I thought fully sharp stiletto nails would look too vampiric for my taste, but that’s just me. But if you get these nails and want them to be sharper, you can definitely file them They’re flexible enough to fit comfortably, but strong enough for reshaping. 🌹 FINAL NOTES 🌹 I’m happy with each of these products, all things considered. Something about applying polish to press on nails also feels like it dries faster. This method doesnt have the same security as salon-grade acrylics. I had to re-glue my pinky nail last night. 💫 But if you want DIY acrylic nails, this is worth a shot.

Creator: @kalen.loves My hair type is bone straight & extremely fine! I love to curl my hair with a wand to create beachy waves. I alternate the way I wrap the hair around the barrel. I then add a texture spray (IGK - Beach Club Volume Texture Spray
to “mess” it up a bit and and volume. I like to finish with OLAPLEX - No. 7 Bonding Oil

to add some shine and keep my hair healthy. This look is simple and anyone can do it. I part my hair and add a clip in the less amount of hair part of my hair to create a sleek look. I love to use clips and hair accessories to spice up a simple look! I got this one with a set off amazon. 💖
