What is rosehip oil?
Rosehip oil has built up quite the following. It is not every skincare oil that can boast followers ranging from Miranda Kerr to Victoria Beckham and even the Duchess of Cambridge!
So, what is contained in this oil that makes it literally worthy of royalty?
Rosehip oil is derived from the rosa canina rose bush which is mostly grown in Chile. The rosehips are what is left over after the roses have dropped their petals. The remaining fruits and seeds from the rose plants are then pressed to produce the oil.
The oil is full of skin nourishing vitamins and essential acids alongside phenols with antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
So, how can rosehip oil benefit your skin? Read on to find out!
Number One: Use it as a moisturizer
Rosehip oil is a brilliant and all-natural alternative to your daily moisturizer. The fatty acids that are found in rosehip oil are the main ingredients in most moisturizers anyway – but by using rosehip oil you are cutting out any additional chemicals or preservatives that might have been added to your at home moisturizer.
Furthermore, its dry and non-greasy texture will apply easily to your skin without leaving any shiny and unwanted residue. Or if you don’t fancy applying the oil to your skin, rosehip powder can be orally ingested and work the same moisturizing wonders!
Number two: Use it as an exfoliator
On the search for a glowing and vibrant complexion? Rosehip oil is what you have been looking for.
The oil is full of vitamins A and C that boosts skin cell turnover and skin cell regeneration. In simpler terms, its natural exfoliation will tighten your pores leading to a reduction in any dullness in your skin.
Rosehip oil is particularly effective as an exfoliator when it is combined with baking sodas. Just be precautious if you have naturally acne prone skin as the oil might clog your pores.
Number three: Use it as a hydrator
Hydration is key to achieving softer skin and a youthful complexion.
Just two of the fatty acids in rosehip oil are linoleic and linolenic acid. These acids help the skin cells retain hydration by strengthening the cell walls so they don’t lose water so easily.
If you suffer from dry or itchy skin, this might be the hydration that your skin has been craving all these years!
Number four: Use it to reduce scars and wrinkles
There is no reason why scars, stretch marks or wrinkles have to stay permanently on your skin. Rosehip oil has a long history for healing wounds – a few lines here and there are no match! The fatty acids and essential oils in rosehip oil will evoke tissue and cell regeneration in the skin.
In a mere matter of weeks applying rosehip oil daily any damaged skin will quickly repair leaving your skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom!
Number five: Use it to boost collagen production
Fancy firmer skin? Collagen is key.
Unfortunately, as the skin ages the amount of collagen production also decreases. But the vitamins A and C in rosehip oil can do what aged skin cannot: they can boost enzymes to break down collagen in your body.
Just a few drops of the oil to your face every day can start turning the years back in no time!
Number six: Use it to fight inflammation
Inflammation can make the best of us self-conscious. But it needn’t.
Rosehip oil is rich in polyphenols and anthocyanin as well as vitamin E and all these elements have long been praised for reducing inflammation. This means that rosehip oil can be used to fight rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. Inflammation will never ruin your day again!
Number seven: Use it as sun protection
Not only does exposure to the sun over time age the skin, it can also drastically increase your risk of contracting skin diseases. Therefore, it is essential you are protecting your skin from the sun. And rosehip oil can help you do so.
The antioxidants of vitamins A, C and E in rosehip oil fight sun damage and the effects of UV exposure while also preventing photoaging. With a drop of rosehip oil on your face you can go out and enjoy the sun guilt free!
Number eight: Use it to reduce hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation refers to dark patches visible on the skin. It is usually caused by excess melanin in the skin following too much sun exposure. Notably it has also been linked to hormonal changes such as in pregnancy or menopause and a side effect of certain medications such as birth control pills.
Rosehip oil contains vitamin A which is composed of retinoids that help to reduce hyperpigmentation. Alongside retinoids, the oil also consists of lycopene and beta carotene that work to lighten the skin when applied to the dark patches. Any patches which might be bothering you will soon be a thing of the past.
Number nine: Use it to boost your skin’s immunity
Healthy skin equals strong skin. And rosehip oil’s antioxidants and fatty acids are pivotal to building up the strength of your skin cells. By strengthening your skin cells, your skin is in a much better position to fight any bacteria that might otherwise lead to outbreaks or, worse, infections.
Possible Side effects
It is better to be safe than sorry – particularly when it comes to skin care. Therefore, before using rosehip oil you should carry out a patch test by applying a dab of the oil to a sensitive area of skin (such as behind you ear) and leave it for 24 hours to check if you are allergic to the oil. If after 24 hours there are any signs of irritation, itchiness or inflammation you should not use the oil. If the area of skin does not heal you should see a doctor.
How to use Rosehip Oil
If, however, your skin shows no sign of irritation you can start adding rosehip oil into your skincare regime right away! Apply the oil up to twice a day, either by itself or mixed with a carrier oil or pre-existing moisturizer.
To boost the durability of your Rosehip oil store it in a cool or dry place, or for the best results reserve a place for it in your refrigerator!

At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
So I recently received the Mimi Co Exfoliating Wand via IG PR. I couldn’t wait to do a full facial and I decided to do it tonight. Order: I purchased a steamer from Amazon for $23 and I’m obsessed with it (DM me for product info). I started with UpCircle - Cleansing Face Balm With Apricot Powder As my oil cleanse to get my sunscreen from today off and any other oils and dirts. INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash This cleanser is perfect for getting dirts and oils from skin as well. It’s not drying and it’s totally worth it! I paired it with a face cleansing scrub brush, I also purchased from Amazon. I love it and I paid around $20 for it as well! It doubles the vibration frequency put out by Foreo. CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask This was the mask I chose for the enzyme properties. This breaks down dirts and oils in pores and dead skin cells. I also steamed my face during this time. Follain - Toning Mist: Balance + Prime This was what I sprayed over my face for the prep for my exfoliating wand. I didn’t have a true medium and I am out of Aloe Vera plants so😭 I then exfoliated with my wand starting at my cheeks and working upward and then to my forehead. I went down and to the sides of my nose. Glow slow! innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion I used the toner to cleanse my skin and get any dirts left over from me exfoliating. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I use this as my hydrating mask. I took the back of my Mimi Co Wand on switched to the Moisturizing Setting. I gently slid upwards my entire face for the last 2 mins only and then wiped the mask off with a damp cloth. earthtoskin - Tea Time Anti Aging Eye Cream This is the most hydrating eye cream I own. I used this with the back of my cleansing brush on the heat setting! Yes it made my eye feel so hydrated and relaxed. fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer This was the final step as a good moisturizer seals in everything! To prevent acne I use the SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil as my last step. I didn’t use an astringent type toner, so I wanted to still treat my skin💚
Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?

Just added to skincare routine
Just added to skincare routine
I usually use some of the the tatcha dewy skin collection skincare, I just added this to the routine. Literally tatcha is the only thing that keeps my skin care at this moment. The dewy collection is great for dry skin but it is a bit pricey. The $12 face mask thoooo be hitting. Anybody else use this brand or want to use it?
A Journey of Self 🌹
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.
