Jun. 2
Mirror, mirror on the wall, what’s the best serum of them all? When it comes to serum, your makeup bag (and your wallet) might only have room for one, so how do you choose? If you’re choosing a serum that can brighten your skin, crease out those wrinkles and leave your face feeling moisturized and rehydrated, we’ve got the answer for you – vitamin C serum. Though expensive at first sight (and not all of them are, as you will soon find out), vitamin C gives you the best bang for your buck since they’re vitamin and nutrient packed to shield your skin from aggressive environmental stress.
How do you choose? Look no further, we’ve done the choosing for you!
Best overall
This powerful antioxidant serum contains 15% pure vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) and 0.5% ferulic acid and protects against free radical damage and oxidative stress. The harmonious combination of vitamin C and vitamin E will help reduce wrinkles, heal skin and leave your skin looking radiant and youthful.
Best value for money
This is a wildly popular serum and has 15,000 raving reviews on Amazon backing its effectiveness. Costing only $19.99, it’s hard to find a serum with matchable qualities at this price. Hyaluronic acid and vitamin E are incorporated into the formula to fight off signs of aging and combat acne scars and dark spots.
Lumene Valo Glow Boost Essence
A serum designed to brighten your skin, it contains vitamin C from arctic cloudberry, pure arctic spring water and two types of hyaluronic acid to smooth out those wrinkles in your skin and to rejuvenate your complexion. Its 100% vegan, non-greasy formula also has a refreshing scent of citrus.
Best by skin types
For oily skin
This potent serum contains vitamin C, vitamin E and ferulic acid, and is jam-packed with powerful essential nutrients and fruit enzymes to neutralize harmful free radical damage, brighten dark spots and smoothen wrinkles. It’s gel-like texture has a cooling sensation on the skin, and sodium hyaluronate will leave your skin feeling ultra-moisturized, allowing your skin to re-emerge with a new luminosity.
Best for acne-prone skin
There’s certainly no corner-cutting in this serum. It’s made not with l-ascorbic acid, but with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a super stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C. But that’s not enough to justify its punchy price, which is why there’s been golden turmeric, pomegranate seed oil, primrose oil and ginger root extract added to give your skin a healthy-looking glow from boardroom to bedroom.
Best for sensitive skin
If you have sensitive skin, you might be scared of vitamin C. After all, its other name is ascorbic acid. Fear no more, this all-natural product omits additives and preservatives, opting for a gentle yet effective formula that’s suitable even for sensitive skin. It’s got a fresh citrus smell to go with it, too. Put on a few drops every morning and watch your skin turn tighter and whiter in just a few weeks.
Best by functionality
Best for brightening
This revolutionary night time serum has found a way to preserve vitamin C in its peak form so that it doesn’t degrade through storage time. To use it, hold a pearl in your hand and simply dispense three full droppers of the Activator onto the pearl. Mix thoroughly on your palm and then apply and watch your skin become brighter and more translucent.
Best for anti-aging
Soften your wrinkles and protect skin against environmental and UV damage. Vitamin C will brighten your skin, vitamin E will ward of free radicals, and algae extract will firm your skin, while green tea extract and resveratrol (extracted from grape seeds) serve as the cherry on top, enriching the serum’s antioxidant effects, giving you a more youthful appearance.
Best for exfoliating
The ingredients speak for themselves – this vegan, gluten and cruelty-free serum will combat age and make your skin look firmer, brighter and plumper. It contains over 50 ingredients: 15% vitamin C to help brighten skin and reduce dark spots, 5% PHA (polyhydroxy acids) to exfoliate and smoothen your skin, hyaluronic acid to help you retain moisture and some banana powder-inspired pigments to spice things up.
Best by ingredients
Best with hyaluronic acid
Boasting a patented vitamin C serum that’s highly stable and can penetrate through 10 layers of skin, Kiehl has chosen to use a formulation with 10% l-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C) and 2% ascorbyl glucoside – a vitamin C derivative that activates once absorbed into the upper layers of the skin to reduce facial lines and prevent wrinkles. It also uses fragmented hyaluronic acid – a special concoction that’s fast absorbing, allowing it to soak in and maintain moisture at the skin’s surface to give you smooth and plump complexion.

It makes perfect sense for @laneigeca Sleeping Mask to have lavender infused into the formula. Lavender is a calming ingredient, the essential oil has been known to help with stress and sleep when diffused in the air or sprayed in a room. Having it in a night cream to help calm and soothe the skin, but the light scent could also help with sleep as we use it before bed 🌙 The texture of this sleeping mask is a really light gel-like texture, with almost a watery flow. I use this once a week as a night cream and I’ve never felt so hydrated. Another lavender product I’m loving is @niu.body lavender toning mist which I spray on at night, and at to my custom masks for a soothing effect. The lavender scent doesnt slap you in the face, its actually nice and light and refreshing. . As always, you can save 20% off @niu.body with my code Leena20

Body Merry - Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser was given to me as a gratis. The representative of this brand was saying great things about this cleanser and so I gave it a try Body Merry is a natural skincare brand that claims to use all natural ingredients. The purpose of this products is to unclog pores from impurities as well as remove dead skin cells because of glycolic acid. Helps brightening, nourish, and moisturize the skin. I am prone to acne and was a little skeptical using it because of olive and jojoba oil do not do well with my skin. However, after using it for almost a month I noticed some changes on my skin. Before using this my skin was looking dull, had a lot of oil buildup on my t-zone, dark spots from previous breakouts. After using for almost a month my skin looked radiant, I saw less oil around my t-zone, and I also had less breakouts. As for my dark spots some were still visible (but as we know sometimes we need a different product to help with those areas). What I love about it is that the beads (made out of jojoba wax see 2nd picture) were gentle. This product had a citrusy smell but it was not over powering were my skin felt irritation. In fact after cleansing my skincare felt moisturized, smooth, and radiant. As you read at the beginning my concern of suing this product was olive and jojoba oil however, because of the following ingredients my skin had no bad reaction. 🔅Glycolic Acid - a chemical exfoliator helps remove dead skin cells as well treats acne & scars, hyperpigmentation and more 🔅 Willow Bark - an alternative salicylic acid because it contains salicin (source of SA) helps treat acne and decrease excess oil. 🔅 Kojic Acid- helps with hyperpigmentation and dark spots ( however due to all these great ingredients it is less effective) 🔅 Tea tree oil - antibacterial & antibacterial properties 🔅 Oils such as rose hip, olive, & jojoba help moisturize & nourish skin 🔅 CICA- this ingredient is low but it has its effects helps soothe skin & one of my holy grail ingredients for acne My overall expensive I enjoyed it because it was gentle and I would use it 3 times a week when exfoliating. Price: Retail price - $19.99 Current the brand website is having a discount of a $1 off) *Remember not all will have the same skin reaction, be gentle to your skin and get to know your skin*
Acne comes from so many different reasons. But generally there are a few tricks that really help to prevent and treat them. SALICYLIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator Known for: combating whiteheads & blackheads by penetrating into the pores of the skin and unclogging them This exfoliating toner is amazing at preventing future breakouts because it’s so effective at unclogging pores and keeping them clear. My blackheads have also diminished so much since using this toner and I definitely can’t turn back. It’s quite strong so even I don’t use it every day and night. I’ll take it out only when I feel like my skin is getting congested (around 1-2x a week). AZELAIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster Known for: gently exfoliating the surface and refining texture of the skin This is a great booster to mix in with moisturizer whenever I feel like my skin is breaking out a lot and very congested. It’s not super strong especially mixed into the last step of my skincare routine but definitely helps to smooth texture. RETINOL: SKINCEUTICALS - RETINOL 0.5 Retinol night cream Known for: speeding up our skin’s natural cell turnover to reveal newer and clearer skin I’ve used a retinol for more than a year now and I’ve seen the biggest improvement in my skin regarding breakouts and texture. I use it as the last step of my skincare routine every other day now and it’s just a great way to keep my skin healthy over the longterm. NIACINAMIDE: THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Known for: helping to control oil production by renewing and restoring the surface of the skin against moisture loss Especially with living in a humid climate currently, my skin has been freaking out a lot. But this serum helps so much with promoting my skin to be balanced and self-regulating. My T-zone doesn’t get as oily but doesn’t feel dry either! SUNSCREEN: SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Okay sunscreen doesn’t DIRECTLY correlate with breakouts, although, there are definitely some that can cause breakouts for some people, mainly physical ones (so find one that doesn’t break you out)! This sunscreen doesn’t break me out and in fact helps with my skin durinf breakouts so much because it protects my skin from hyperpigmentation! The scarring that comes after a breakout can be just as annoying as the breakout itself but sunscreen helps so much to speed up the recovering and healing process! Do you have more tips for preventing breakouts to share?

My skin type is dry combination with acne skin, acne marks are left by the adolescence. Blain and pore bulky skin is the most serious problem! Products with hydrating and acne treatment is my first needs when I buy skin care products. I will introduce two products which I have tried before. I hope I can help people to avoid mine field. YES! Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque Kiehl's - Calendula Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque The texture is more close to transparent jelly, and is suitable to all skin types. This product can help acne anti-inflammatory, especially red acne can get effective improvement. It has high Concentration of Calendula essence. After using it before you go to bed, Abnormal skin condition can be relieved the next day morning. But there's a problem with this product. The amount of preservative added in it is a little large. There is a slight pinch for people whose skin cuticle is thin. In addition, before using this mask, you need to use hydrating lotion or toner first. If you use it under a dry skin condition, you will also feel tingling. NO! SKII R.N.A.POWER Radical New Age SK-II - R.N.A. POWER Anti-Aging Face Cream I've tried this product three times, and each time I get pimples the next day! It is the kind of big acne that can squeeze out white particles. First of all, this product contains Niacinamide. If you are not a tolerable skin, this product is easy to make you have acne and allergies. I have introduced in my previous post how to use Niacinamide ingredient correctly. If you are interested, you can have a look. Secondly, the nutritional content of this product is too high. For my skin, there is a little over nutrition. The skin absorbs too much and blocks the pores. Actually, the best way I've found in recent years to keep my skin in good condition is to avoid eating sweet food! Try to eat less desserts, run more and exercise more. It's really better than any skin care product!
