The Types Of Wrinkles You Need To Know! And How To Treat Them

May 19
Not all wrinkles are born equal. We fight them off with creams and serums, but perhaps we forget the beauty of someone’s smile lines as proof of a life well-lived.
We hope this guide can help your awareness of the types of wrinkles, how they appear, how to slow their formation, and treatment options. But we also want to use this quick read to let you know that wrinkles are not a sign of your imperfection, but rather the art of your life and the beauty of memories lived.
We are all humans and regardless of how much Botox you inject, lines will appear inevitably. It is best to embrace this as part of life instead of fighting the process of mother nature.
The Main Sources of Wrinkles
The main places where wrinkles appear over time include:
  • Laugh Lines – sometimes known as nasolabial folds, the lines from your smile on cheeks around lips
  • Crow’s Feet – The lines at the corner of your eye moving outward to the hairline
  • Forehead Lines – The lines across your forehead, often due to stress and worry or frequent overexcitement and facial exaggeration
  • Worry Lines – The vertical lines that sometimes are shaped like parenthesis, between the eyebrows, caused by furrowing
  • Lip Lines – Often caused by smoking, the pursing shape causes lines around the lip. Even sucking a straw can increase the speed of these hatch-patterned lines developing
  • Bunnies – A horizontal line on the nose which lies between the eyes
  • Marionette Lines – Often requiring fillers, these are the vertical lines that are lower than your smile lines, named after marionette puppets, which also have these lines laterally around the chin
The Main Types of Wrinkles
The main two types of wrinkles are:
  • Static – Lines that are caused naturally over time from loss of collagen.
  • Dynamic - Lines that are caused by facial movements such as smiling or raising eyebrows.
The primary variations of these lines are:
Gravitational Folds
These are more noticeable in people over the age of 50 to 60, most commonly seen on the elderly in their 70s to 90s. As the name suggests, these are more dramatic folds that will occur as we grow into our later years in life.
Gravitational Folds are caused by a lack of collagen, which will lead to sagging. It has been proven to be more common in those with a thinner face as compared to a plumper person of thicker skin or weight. If you are larger, your skin is prone to less of these types of folds. (Note: This is not an incentive or motivation to be larger or smaller, simply the science behind it. Be who you are in the healthiest version of yourself!).
Permanent Elastotic Creases
These appear around the neck as you age and are a permanent loss of collagen. They are caused by sitting with your neck creased for any reason, such as a pillow that is propped too high and cramming your chin into your chest.
Compression Lines
These are caused by anything that squishes your face or body around. Most people that sleep on their sides get compression lines on the side of the face they sleep on most frequently, as well as in their décolletage and neck area. Women will get lines between their breasts that extend upwards to the neck.
Most lines will disappear a few hours after you’ve gotten out of bed, but repeating this on daily-basis will cause these lines to cement more permanently.
Dynamic Expression Lines
As discussed as the counter to Static Lines, Dynamic lines are part of a life with experiences.
Unless you want to fight living a meaningful life filled with joy, sadness, and everything in between - You should not want to stop these lines from forming. Take pride in a life of swelling emotion and focus on keeping your mind, body, spirit, and skin healthy from the inside out.
What Causes Wrinkles?
The leading causes of wrinkles include the following:
  • Repeated expressions on the face (often leading to worry lines, smile lines, crows feet are caused by smiling, forehead lines are caused by raising your eyebrows in surprise, etc.)
  • Sun damage and exposure to UV Rays (and lack of SPF of sun protection, crucial to protecting against aging)
  • Smoking (predominantly impacts lines around lips)
As we addressed, you should not stop smiling. So unless you are smoking (and should stop!), then your only real remedy against wrinkles – is SPF.
According to, 90% of visible skin aging is caused by overexposure to the sun and it’s ensuing damage.
SPF over 30 does not do as much as you think, so aim for a spot around 30-50 SPF that includes:
  • Broad-spectrum
  • Oil-free
  • Non-nano zinc oxide (at least 20%)
Treat Wrinkles or Prevent Them?
Once those lines form, it is exceedingly difficult to undo time’s mark.
Prevention will be the best course of action, as compared to temporary treatments like Botox, or cremes and serums, which will work more slowly, only sit on top, and can only do so much.
Even if you see no wrinkles yet, start your anti-aging routine early!
Ways to prevent wrinkles before they form are:
  • Use anti-aging products morning and night
  • Always cleanse and moisturize daily, exfoliate dead skins cells twice per week
  • Use SPF that is oil-free, every morning! Religiously!
  • Incorporate things that increase the health of your skin, such as topical cremes that include:
    • Vitamin C
    • Collagen
    • Omegas
  • Reduce your intake of sugar
  • Stop smoking
  • Incorporate beta carotene into your routine
  • Incorporate more superfoods, berries, kale, and leafy greens which cause an alkaline body of optimal health
  • Sleep on your back instead of scrunching your face into the pillow on your sides or stomach position
  • Go to a dermatologist and make a budget for more:
    • Facials
    • Lasers
    • Peels
    • Microdermabrasion
    • Anything that increases the natural health of your skin without fillers and additives
  • Get enough sleep (health specialists recommend 7 hours minimum)
  • Reduce your stress
  • Drink a half-gallon of water per day; the recommended amount is about 2-liters per day (about a half-gallon).
If you have gravitational pulls such as marionette lines, you will need a facelift or fillers to fix these.
In Conclusion
There are plenty of lines you can fight with the mastery of prevention. But we hope the main takeaway of this article is to embrace those dynamic lines that show you’ve smiled, laughed, cried, and lived. Those are the most beautiful things you can wear.

Never Give Up On Your Skin
Never Give Up On Your Skin
Looking at my unfiltered photo you may be thinking that I don’t suffer from cystic acne but I do and I did. In my early teens my skin was PERFECT. By college, I would get 1-2 pimples near the time where my red seas be flowing. In my early 20s and as I’ve aged it got worse. I experienced enlargement of pores, cystic acne, blackheads on a repeat vicious cycle. Now in my late 20’s I combat all of those knowing that I’m a combination type. I did Seeing as my skincare was considered a bar of soap, I set out on my skin journey. Trying products that were absolutely no good. Yes, I trotted to Target and have picked up Clean & Clear. I’ve gone down the road and used the St. Ives Scrub 👀 Do I have to wash make up off every night? 😖 I remember feeling lost and down in the dumps, frustrated because I couldn’t see results. Mistaking tightness as a measure of effectivity, I suffered from dryness. Causing my skin to produce more oils, I made my pores bigger. 😟 To this day my pores on my nose and cheeks are still very visible to me. Popped too many a pimple because I couldn’t resist.✖️✖️✖️ I do Throughout every mistake I became motivated to learn. This was my skin and certainly if it’s mine then it’s within my control. I obsessed because I feel that the more time I spend on it, the more beneficial it will be for me and my well being. Sometimes that means breaking the bank 🏦 and sometimes you put on your cheap skates. 💨 Through my visits at the dermatologist and guidance from my mom, I’ve come to accept so much despite feeling like giving up. 🔚 Lessons Along The Way No one is going to get as close to my face as I do to a mirror before my shower 🛀. Unless you’re my husband who smooches me and always tells me I’m beautiful. 🥺 No one is going to have that much motivation to look at my picture and zoom x100000000 magnification 🔍 on it just to count my pores. Just because it says pore clearing or acne treatment whatever marketing buzzword does not mean that it’s good for you. There are skincare products that can make it worse. Even just by going with good reviews, checking the ingredients is worth the while. Put those ugly products into permanent purgatory. 🗑 After enough time and patience, results will slowly show more and more each day. Scars that existed no longer existed. Deeper scars that start to look smaller. There are no days off to application or improving my routine. You will CONQUER and tame this beast you call skin! ⚔️ I’m glad that there’s a medium to express what’s helped me along the way. I’m also here to learn more from the community. All I know is what I’ve learnt so far and I’m so happy to share that I couldn’t believe this is my 50th post on Cherie! 🥳 Accept and love your skin, show yourself the patience you deserve. Thank you so much for reading. But most of all beside those lessons, I should have never forgotten the sunblock. 🤣 You live and you learn.

A Satisfying Texture | Foundation for Dry Skin❤️
A Satisfying Texture | Foundation for Dry Skin❤️
Look at this awesome close up of the AMOREPACIFIC - Color Control Cushion Compact Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 50 😍 I have this thing called Trypophobia (fear of small holes) but for some reason this close up just fascinates me. You can really see the luminescence of the foundation within the sponge! For those of you who aren’t familiar with CC formulas/cushion foundation, they are typically a smoother, more liquid-like formula than your average foundation that is made to even out skintone. Most true CC formulations focus more on skincare elements and a wee bit less on color/color ranges, especially those from Korean brands. Western brands definite amp up the diversity of their skintone range, as well as overall pigmentation in their formulas. This means you’ll find more full-coverage CC cream/foundation from “western” brands like IT Cosmetic’s it Cosmetics - it Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF 50+ . (Not my favorite for dry skin. I felt like the Sahara Desert all over again when I used their formula 🙄) Therefore, it might be difficult to find a shade that fits you if you have a deeper skintone. Side note: I consider IT cosmetics to be a western brand because upon a bit of research, the company was bought by L’Oréal and the products are mostly manufactured in China. I love this foundation for super dry skin because of how moisturizing it is. It’s awesome for creating that second-skin finish with a natural, dewy glow. If you have light-medium with slight neutral-gold undertones and struggle with a bit of texture, this foundation line could work well for you! Every time I try something new or I’m stuck in a rut, I always go back to this foundation. I love the ease of use and blendability. The size is great for travel and I find that it doesn’t bother my dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. You can get a medium to slightly buildable full coverage without “erasing” the dimension/shadows in your face. Even though it has SPF it doesn’t wash my face out completely and doesn’t create a white cast. If there is any, it’s only slightly noticeable. You would have to look reeeaaally close to see it. Layering on powder/cream products are a breeze. I found the best way to use this product is with a slightly damp beauty blender. Start by placing a little bit onto the skin and then proceed to layer more as needed. There is something to be mindful of when you are using this product. If you live in a more humid/moist climate, I would add a little powder after your face primer and then proceed to add this foundation to help keep this in place throughout the day. You could also carry a powder puff with you throughout the day for touch-ups. Because the foundation has high moisture and provides a dewy finish, it can impact the longevity if you live in an moist/humid area 😊 Yay to a healthy glow! ❤️😄
To shave, or not to shave?
To shave, or not to shave?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the question, “Will my hair grow back thicker?” When discussing shaving ones face, or even just body hair in general, so I decided to make this post. Just a little preamble here.. I myself have facial hair. No, I do not have PCOS, I’m just a hairy lady 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I’ve learned how to accept it over the years because trust me when I tell you it was a self-esteem battle! I’ve tried every single hair removal product and method out there, and I always go back to what’s tried and true; shaving. But more importantly, I’ve done lots of research and spoken to my dermatologist about this myth as well, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a pile of 💩 With a little help from Dr. Kristeen Cherney who wrote, Shaving Does Not Affect the Thickness or Rate of Hair Growth for Healthline, I’d like to break down some myths. MYTH #1: hair will grow differently when shaved and even be more coarse So this is actually half true and here’s why. As Dr. Cherney puts it, “Unshaven hair has a finer, blunter tip,” so when your hair grows back from shaving, you’ll end up seeing the coarser base as opposed to the “softer, thinner part that will eventually grow back,” if, of course, you let it! MYTH #2: hair grows back darker The new hair may be more thick, but it’s not because of shaving. Remember, this hair hasn’t yet been exposed to the elements or soaps or even chemicals that we use on the daily, which if you didn’t know, actually lightens the hair. MYTH #3 (the best for last): hair will grow back thicker when shaved, especially on the face Let’s break down how our hair grows so you can get a better understanding of why this statement is false. According to Dr. Cherney, “It takes about 1 month for body hair to reach its full length. This is why body hair is more shorter than the hair on our heads.” If you look at the image above, you can get a better understanding of the hair follicle, which is where our hair starts. One photo shows a blade ready to glide over top of the dead hair on the surface of the skin and the second photo shows what it looks like after. As you can see, all shaving did was, and for a lack of a better word, trim the hair! It didn’t actually get rid of the entire hair from the hair follicle. So to conclude with the words of Dr. Cherney, “Since shaving doesn’t remove hair under the skin like other hair removal methods do, it’s impossible for you to affect its colour, thickness or rate of growth.” There ya have it. So it’s safe to say, go ahead and shave! Don’t let a silly myth stop you. Just make sure you do it properly so that you don’t damage that beautiful skin 😌
2021 Fashion Week Inspired Makeup - Hermès
2021 Fashion Week Inspired Makeup - Hermès
This look is inspired by models for Hermes for 2021 spring/summer fashion week. This look focuses on super dewy skin and a bold, red lip as the center of attention. This look was really easy to recreate and something I would actually rock IRL (except for the lack of mascara because mascara is bae). I’ve included the inspo photo from Allure. To add a glowy base to my complexion, I used Glossier. - Futuredew Oil Serum Hybrid . I only ever use 1 pump of this oil-serum hybrid because I think any more makes me look like a grease ball. I applied this all over my face and dabbed a tiny amount onto my eyelids. This product is perfect for applying on bare skin, under makeup, and can even be used over makeup for a natural, wet-looking highlight. After I applied my complexion products, I dabbed a tiny amount onto the high points of my cheekbones. Sticking with the dewy theme, I used the ILIA - Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 in “balos”. I’m not sure if the models were wearing complexion products because their skin looked super natural, yet also “flawless”. Since I have some redness on my cheeks, I used this skin tint to even out my skin tone and amp up the dew. I lightly concealed underneath my eyes with the e.l.f. - Hydrating Camo Concealer in “light peach”. The models don’t appear to be wearing any cheek products, though I did add a tiny bit of AOA studio - Sculpt FX Contour in “fawn” to help sculpt my cheeks a tiny bit like the models. I finished the look off with the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in “always red”. I’ve had a mini of this for quite a while. It’s beautiful, comfortable despite being matte, does leave a tint behind, and is long-wearing. This is the kind of lipstick that would last from the runway well into the after party (in non-COVID times, of course). The models don’t appear to be wearing any mascara, so I skipped that. I filled in my brows a bit more than usual for a fuller appearance. I used the essence - Superlast Eyebrow Pomade Pencil in “dark brown”. Such a fun look! You guys it’s sooo hard not to smile. How do models do it?! 🤪 Look for another fashion week look soon. All brands are cruelty-free except for Sephora Collection. Prices: futuredew $24, skin tint $46, concealer $6, contour stick $1, lip stain (full size) $15, brow pencil $3.50 #Cherie Partner
