Losing Collagen as You Get Older, And How You Can Prevent It
Collagen is a protein that our body produces naturally that does a variety of important things. For example, it can help our skin look elastic, is the building block of many of our body parts, and even helps our blood clot. In terms of our looks, collagen can help make sure you don’t get fine lines and wrinkles. That means the more collagen you have in your system, the tighter your skin will look, and the less wrinkles you’ll likely have!
Why am I losing collagen in the first place?
While our body may produce collagen on its own, there are certain things that we may do that can damage or decrease our collagen production and the amount in our bodies. For one thing, aging in general causes your body to naturally deplete as we get older. Unfortunately, until we invent time machines, there’s no way that we can prevent this.
Other ways we can lose collagen depend on lifestyle choices – which means we can do things to avoid it! For example, the ingredients in cigarettes and tobacco smoke can not only damage the collagen we already have in our bodies, but it can also affect the elasticity of our skin. Further still, nicotine in general makes our blood vessels smaller, which makes it more difficult for them to carry important nutrients – like collagen – throughout our bodies.
Sunlight and UV rays can also damage our collagen levels and production. While sunlight can be good for the body – and obviously feels amazing! – too much exposure to UV rays from laying out too long or going tanning too often can actually be really bad for our skin. UV rays actually can damage the collagen that’s already in your skin, making it more likely to develop wrinkles and sagging.
Lastly, you may be surprised that what you eat can affect how much collagen your body produces. Sweets and foods that have a lot of sugars can create byproducts in our bodies that attach to healthy collagen, and turn them dry and brittle. Sugar and carbs can actually affect the way collagen is able to repair itself as well, meaning that the more sugar you have in your diet, the dryer your collagen will be, and the less likely it’ll be able to fix itself.
How can I prevent losing collagen and what can I do to treat it?
As we said previously, there are certain things, like aging, that cause collagen loss that we really can’t do much about. Luckily, however, we can make small lifestyle changes in the way we eat, the amount of time we spend outside, and more, which will all have a positive effect on our collagen and the way our body produces collagen. And the healthier our collagen, the less wrinkles you’ll have!
If you’re a smoker, you may notice that you’re more likely than others to get wrinkles, especially around your mouth. That’s actually because the tobacco and nicotine you’re putting in your body is decreasing your body’s ability to produce collagen, which makes you more likely to wrinkle, especially in those areas. And scientific studies also show that cigarettes are also very bad for you for other reasons. As a result, quitting can be great for your health, and for your skin!
Keeping out of the sun or using sun screen can help protect your skin and collagen as well. This doesn’t mean that you can’t go outside, or that you have to hide from the sun every time it peeks out from behind a cloud! One way to protect yourself from the sun and its harmful UV rays is to use SPF lotion or moisturizer when you know you’re going to be outside for extended periods of time. 30 SPF and above will keep your collagen levels up and healthy. Additionally, if you use tanning beds, it may be time to take a break. Your skin will thank you for it!
Keeping an eye on what you eat can also help your collagen levels up as well. Avoiding sugary snacks can make sure that the collagen your body produces doesn’t get dry and brittle. Additionally, there are other foods that can help your body produce more collagen naturally. Next time you’re at the grocery store, take a look at the ingredients of some of your favorite foods. Products with things like Vitamin A and C, cooper, and proline all help your body create more collagen. Foods with high content of these vitamins and minerals include things like egg whites, mean, and cheese.
If you feel like your collagen levels are super low, it may also be time to see a doctor. While there are natural ways to raise the levels of your collagen and keep it healthy, a doctor can also prescribe medication or treatment, depending on what it keeping your levels low. Regardless, keeping your collagen levels up will help with wrinkles, and make you as look young and gorgeous as you feel!
Skincare Products ( that i have been LOVING )
Recently, I have been super into skincare and keeping up with my skin’s appearance as I am growing myself in the beauty industry ( meaning that I am now CONSTANTLY doing makeup on myself! ) Fluff and Starface both sent me these products to try out, and I have been LOVING them so far! I have combination skin, and this routine is PERFECT for me! My new three favorite skincare products that I have been enjoying as of lately are 1) FLUFF - Face Oil #1 , which is 100% jojoba oil, which I used as an all natural makeup remover! Jojoba oil is super moisturizing and amazing for literally all skin types- especially acne prone and sensitive skin! 2) FLUFF cleanser , which is again - all natural - containing jojoba oil, hemp seed oil (which moisturizes without clogging pores, and balances out oily skin), ashwagandha root (which stimulates production of natural skin oils), and aloe vera (which reduces blemishes and acne, as well as lightens blemishes on the face). This cleanser does a great job of removing makeup as well as leaving you skin moisturized and soft! 3) STARFACE Moisture on Mars Hydrating Face Cream! A little bit of this product really goes a long way, leaving your face super soft, hydrated, and all with a SERIOUS glow!!! I highly recommend checking these 3 products all out! They all work great separately, but in my opinion as I have been using them cohesively, my skin has been looking and feeling great ( besides that one pimple 🙄 ). xx Isabelle
GRWM! New products and some old!
Hello everyone! I did another GRWM using some new and old products! First I started off with a primer. I used e.l.f. - Poreless Putty Primer I was actually really surprised by this. It reminded me of Tachas silk canvas primer. It went on smoothly and did a good job of blurring my skin. I will say though after I looked at my makeup in the mirror up close it did settle a bit into my pores and my creases and was pretty noticeable. Overall I think this is a good product and will work for people with smoother skin. e.l.f. - 16HR Camo Concealer Then I used the elf concealer. I love this concealer. I’ve used it so many other times in my other videos. WINKY LUX - Diamond Powder Foundation Then I used the winky lux foundation. This actually went on so nicely and was super natural looking. I love how it’s so weightless and decreases shine. I would recommend this for people with oilier skin. the CRÈME shop - "Macro Brow" Angled Brow Pencil + Spooley Then i used macro brow. This is just to fill in the last bits of my eyebrow to look fuller. It’s easy to use and has a great price point. I just wish the pigment was a little easier to apply. You have to push so hard. RITUEL DE FILLE - Rare Light Crème Luminizer My favorite brand of highlighters ever. Just so pretty and pigmented. All natural and cruelty free. An amazing brand overall. 💞 fresh - Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 I used a tinted fresh lip treatment. Love the way they hydrate and the subtle color it gives off. They also smell and taste really good 😂. Hope you enjoyed getting ready with me! Let me know if you have any questions about the products I used.
Kylie x Grinch - Worth the Hype?
Review time!!! I just received the entire Kylie Cosmetics Grinch Collection in the mail this week & I want to break down each product and tell you what I loved and didn’t love. Palette: I’m not one that reaches for tons of colour usually but all the greens in this palette are gorgeous! There’s a mix of matte and shimmer shades, and as usual, the shadows blend like a dream! The good thing about this palette is that there are still some neutral shades rather than just greens. I definitely appreciate the mixture of shades. Shadow Sticks: The Kylie shadow sticks are probably one of my favourite products they have ever released. They are so extremely pigmented, and so easy to apply. They’re basically fool proof, and they set as a shadow. If you haven’t tried them out, I highly suggest you do! In this collection we have a super pretty light shimmery green, light gold, and two rosy toned shadow sticks. Shimmer Eye Glazes: This product is insane. They are a super intensely pigmented eyeshadow that leaves the lids looking wet & dripping in glitter! One swipe of these on the lid is literally all you need for that intense shimmer. If you’re someone who loves super shimmery eyeshadow, I recommend giving the Kylie Cosmetics Shimmer Eye Glazes a try. This collection came with 2 shades: a minty turquoise green and a gold - & I’m obsessed and so happy to be adding these to my collection!! Olive Kyliner: My go to liquid liner is the black Kyliner, so i wasn’t surprised when i loved the easy application and long wearing quality of this olive Kyliner! The liner applies a lighter olive green and dries down to a deeper olive shade. It’s definitely not something I’d reach for everyday, although it’s definitely cute for the holidays or even for a pop of colour to a neutral eye! Blush: I am a huge fan of the Kylie Cosmetics Blushes as opposed to the other blushes I’ve tried from the brand this one had some shimmer in it! It’s quite similar to the NARS “orgasm” blush but with a stronger pink hue. I love the shimmer in it, it adds a pretty glow to the cheeks, perfect for the holidays.. or any day really :P Highlight: Def on theme, but probably my least favourite product in of the collection :( Don’t get me wrong, it’s super blinding and glowy. Although, once I applied to my face it showed off as very green. Personally I don’t want a green glow on my face! But hey, if that’s your vibe that’s cool! Definitely not a highlight I’d reach for everyday. Lip Kit: Obsessed. This red is EVERYTHING! This Lip Kit is one of the best reds I have ever tried. It has a matte finish and is extremely long wearing. I know it’s sold out but a similar shade would be “BOSS” by Kylie. Lipsticks: These shades are gorg for the holidays and I love the shade range! Long wearing & comfortable on the lips. High Glosses: Kylies high glosses are high shine, but very sticky! So if you’re not a fan of sticky glosses you won’t love these. These shades are perf for the holidays and everyday!

Tips from a dermatologist on sunscreen ☀️
Let’s talk about sunscreen ☀️ What’s a good sunscreen to wear? One that is: * Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays) * SPF 30 or higher * Water resistant This will help protect your skin from early skin aging, sunburn, and skin cancer. What is the difference between chemical and physical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens work like a sponge, absorbing the sun’s rays. They contain one or more of the following ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. These are often easier to rub into the skin without a white cast. Physical sunscreens (aka mineral sunscreens) act like a shield, sitting on the surface of your skin and deflecting the sun’s rays. These can come on white. They have the active ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide Reapply every 2 hours when outside in the sun ☀️ Some of my favorites: Tinted: Cerave tinted, la roche posay tinted, alastin CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 ALASTIN SKINCARE - HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 Not tinted: colorescience, drunk elephant colorescience - Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 What’s your favorite sunscreen?
