For Cinco de Mayo, I thought it was appropriate to highlight five Mexican-owned beauty brands that have changed the beauty world and led to more representation for the Mexican beauty community over the years.Jessica Gonzalez - Happy OrganicsMexican-American entrepreneur Jessica Gonzalez created Happy Organics after her father was diagnosed with cancer. Searching for a way to help ease her father's pain, Gonzalez found the idea of infusing harvested raw honey with CBD since the raw plant was too hard for her father to ingest. Thus, Happy Organics was born. The company now offers a variety of honey and hemp-derived products that are sweet, sustainable, and crafted in the Central Valley
HAPPY ORGANICSSana Slave Organic CBD Muscle Balm and Chest RubJulissa Prado - Rizos CurlsAfro-Mexican boss babe Julissa Prado founded Rizos Curls after spending much of her childhood looking for the perfect products to use on her curly hair. When she was formulating Rizos Curls, she wanted to create a product made with quality and natural ingredients that could celebrate all curl types, from tight coils to loose waves. Rizos Curls turned her dream into a reality. Now, Prado's company boasts every kind of hair product from shampoos and conditioners to styling creams and hair pins.
Rizos CurlsRizos Curls The TrioLeah Guerrero — Brujita SkincareWhile Leah Guerrero herself is of Ecuadorian decent, this lady-boss and creator of Brujita Skincare was inspired by the mercados of Mexico City where she sourced ingredients for her holistic line. Guerrero believes in good-for-you skincare at an affordable price. As a licensed esthetician, Guerrero’s interest in organic skincare manifested when she realized that the products she was recommending to clients often did more harm than good. Guerrero created Brujita Skincare in 2017 and since then, Brujita Skincare has been on the up and up and a staple in the organic skincare world.
BRUJITASea Algae CleanserNavil Rico — Atomic MakeupInspired by a variety of influences including rock 'n' roll culture, first-generation Mexican woman Navil Rico created Atomic Makeup NYC in 2015 with the goal to give makeup lovers the freedom to express their artistic selves by creating makeup that matches every skin tone and personality. Including a new line of CBD-infused liquid lipsticks and lip glosses, Rico's brand is affordable, cruelty free, and made in its home base of New York City.
atomic MAKEUPNectar CBD LipglossRea Ann Silva — BeautyblenderThere's no denying that the invention of the Beautyblender changed the makeup world forever, and that's all thanks to Mexican-Portuguese beauty pioneer Rea Ann Silva. When high definition television emerged in 2002, it began to change the way makeup artists applied makeup. Thus, Silva conceptualized the pink, teardrop-shaped sponge we now know and love. Little did she know she was sitting on an idea that would soon change the face of beauty. Silva launched the famous makeup sponge in 2003, and from there it pretty much revolutionized the way everyone from professional MUAs to women at home applied makeup.

🎯Ingrown hairs—these two little words conjure🎯
In our quest for smooth, stubble-free skin, ingrown hairs are an annoyance at best and cause for concern at worst (trust me- you don't want to see what they look like when they get infected)🤐 The cause of ingrown hairs isn't complicated. Simply put, when your hair starts to grow, sometimes it curls inward and gets trapped back under the surface of your skin. This can happen because dead skin cells clog up your hair follicle (so always, always exfoliate), but ingrowns also exist just because of your hair's natural growth pattern—so, unfortunately, those with curly hair may suffer the most! Aspirin-Honey Treatment This recipe is a double whammy. Not only does aspirin naturally contain salicylic acid, but honey also has antibacterial properties, which can help reduce the possibility of inflammation and infection. 🔎Ingredients: 3 uncoated aspirin tablets 1 tsp. honey 1/2 to 1 tsp. water or oil Directions: Add warm water or oil to a bowl Add honey Crush aspirin tablets Mix together Leave mask on for 10 minutes Wipe off entirely with warm water Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub Coconut oil, for example, is hydrating, keeps skin moisturized, and reduces inflammation.4 It's basically our winter skin savior. Mix it with raw sugar and you've got a winner. You can use this scrub daily until you see an improvement, and then you can switch to two to three times a week. Just be careful that the scrub isn't too abrasive. 🔎Ingredients: 1 cup of raw sugar 1/2 cup of coconut oil 10 drops of tea tree oil, or your preferred essential oil Directions: Combine sugar and coconut oil in a bowl Add in essential oil Mix together Apply and then rinse using warm water Dry with a clean towel Baking Soda and Oatmeal Treatment I am huge fan of baking soda and how amazing this ingredient is! And rediciliously cheap. Baking soda, which is a great exfoliator, helps reduce and prevent ingrown hairs. Oatmeal has a soothing effect, reducing redness and irritation caused by exfoliation. 🔎Ingredients: 1 tbsp. baking soda 1 cup of water 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal Directions: Mix baking soda and oatmeal together Add water to the bowl Stir until it has a paste-like texture Using a cotton pad, scoop up the mixture Apply to the affected area and let sit for 10 minutes Rinse with warm water Oil-Based Serum if you're particularly sensitive, it's best to avoid overly harsh scrubs. Abrasive scrubs like sugar and salt scrubs do exfoliate the skin but often at the expense of causing excess skin irritation 🔎Ingredients: 1 tbsp. castor oil 1 tbsp. hemp oil (optional) 10 drops tea tree oil Directions: Find a reusable glass bottle Combine castor oil and hemp oil Add tea tree oil to mix Apply combination after shaving to prevent irritation alba BOTANICA - Acne Dote, Face & Body Scrub Oil-Free CeraVe - SA Moisturizing Cream For Rough & Bumpy Skin GLYTONE - KP Kit Amlactin - Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion
The Benefits of Tomatoes
Hey Beauty’s It’s been a long week and I haven’t been on much, missed wellness Wednesday but I never let the week past without a natural skincare edition. 😉 Tomatoes 🍅 Tomatoes are the major dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. Lycopene is an especially strong antioxidant, so it can help your overall health along with the appearance of your skin. Antioxidants help reverse signs of aging, which means plumper skin and reduced fine lines. 😁 They are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K. Natural Face Masks to try at home: I have combination skin that tends to be on the oily side. I would suggest a patch test for sensitive skin. 🧚♀️Instantly Brighter Skin 1/2 Ripe Tomato 🍅 1 Tbsp Honey 🍯 Blend tomato 🍅 till it’s a smooth purée, stir in honey and mix well. I’m the biggest fan of honey 🍯 and adding tomato just made this mask more appealing. So I tried it! 😃 Because of the honey, it’s a very sticky mask but full of antioxidants. Honeys a natural humectant (locks moisture in skin cells), it’s antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties protect skin from bacteria and germs 🦠 🧚♀️ Refreshing Mask 1/2 Ripe Tomato 🍅 1/4 Cucumber 🥒 Peel cucumber and blend with Tomato 🍅 apply in circular motion and wait 15 minutes. Rinse off. Both cucumber and tomato are natural astringents which help tighten large pores. Cucumber is composed of 95% water and will hydrate oily skin, preventing further oiliness as well as moisturising dry skin back to its previous smoothness. It’s the cucumber that soothes the skin and can fade blemishes. Hope you have a great Friday! And let me know if you like my natural series by liking this post. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 There’s a natural Tomato 🍅 Paper Mask by Yes To, it’s available on ASOS. The Yes To Tomato Mask 🍅 is made to fight blemishes. It’s 95% natural, paraben free and cruelty free. It’s suitable for combination skin so if you want to purchase something try this, I prefer my natural Masks 😉 it saves me $$$ to spend on cleanser, my new fav product for now. 🙋🏽♀️ Cheers 🥂 Jade
What is Rosacea?
Hey Beauty’s 🙋🏽♀️ I wanted to highlight Rosacea which affects 16 million Americans and 415 million people around the World 🌎 Mayo Clinic say, it’s a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face. It may also produce small, red, pus-filled bumps. These signs and symptoms may flare up for weeks to months and then go away for a while. Rosacea can be mistaken for acne, other skin problems or natural ruddiness. Health line say, the cause of rosacea is still unknown, and there is no cure although Mayo Clinic list a number of reasons (highlighted in my infographic) that cause the condition. 🧐 Topical Treatment: An article in Australian Prescriber say, treatment starts with general measures which include gentle skin cleansing, photoprotection and avoidance of exacerbating factors such as changes in temperature, ultraviolet light, stress, alcohol and some foods. Specific topical treatments include: 🧚♀️ Metronidazole, Rozex Metronidazol Gel is a topical antibiotic gel for treatment of rosacea 🧚♀️ Azelaic acid, a superstar ingredient with antibacterial, skin cell regulating, anti inflammatory and is especially useful for acne-prone or rosacea-prone skin types (in concentration 10% and 🆙 The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% has the right strength of Azelaic acid. 😄 🧚♀️ Laser therapy may also be beneficial 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 If you have any questions just leave me a comment below. Have a wonderful day! Jade 😃
