Our routines have become hectic and as we are shifting to digitalization, most of us spend half our day or maybe more on laptops and staring at different kinds of screens. Either we are travelling and we have impure air hitting our eyes or we are sitting in cubicles where ventilation is minimal and not to forget, no matter what we do, we can’t manage to keep our eyes away from that screen. In this modernizing era, our eyes have to go through a lot and eye problems have become something every second has! From kids to elders, everybody faces some kind of issues with the eyes and due to poor eating habits, many kids also end up wearing glasses at a very young age.
This article aims to highlight common eye problems, their causes and their preventive measures along with probable solutions.
Digital eye strain or Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)
It is obvious that most of us today spend 6-8 hours in the office working on a computer, let alone the time we spend casually on our phones! Even kids these days spend a lot of time on phones and laptops for studies and various projects. Due to these long hours, every second person has sometime or the other faced the Computer Vision Syndrome. The Symptoms include:
  • Neck/shoulder pain
  • Blurred vision
  • Headaches
  • Red patches in the eyes
  • How to avoid CVS?
  • Make sure the room you work in is well ventilated and has sufficient amount of light. Focusing on a screen in a place where the light is less and ventilation is poor causes eyes to get strained and might also give you severe headaches.
  • Look away from your screen every 20 minutes at an object 20 feet far for 20 seconds. This will help you in relieving the stress from your eyes and will not let you develop any vision-related problems in the long run.
  • Blink frequently and do not be too close to your screen. Palm your eyes every 30 minutes to relax the muscles.
  • Dry eyes
Staring at the computer or mobile phone for long hours is very harmful. As most of us these days are dependent on digital equipment to work, we have to carry out various tasks, all while looking at the screen. This subconsciously prevents us from blinking adequately. Blinking is very essential for the eyes as with each blink, a tear film is spread across the eyes to keep the cornea healthy and prevent it from drying up and breaking.
Dry eyes start of as a simple irritation and when left unattended, they become the root cause for major severe infections. The Symptoms include:
    How to prevent Dry Eyes?
  • Take frequent breaks from your work and do not stare at the computer screen for long
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule and ensure you blink frequently. It is advisable to blink 10-15 times per minute.
  • The level of the screen should be below the level of your eyes.
  • If you feel that your eyes are getting dry, consult your doctor and ask him to suggest some eye-drops.
  • It is obvious that all of us are in a schedule where avoiding the laptops and mobiles is practically impossible. However, simple steps can help us take care of our eyes.
    Sleep well!
It is very important to ensure 6-8 hours of continuous sleep. The eyes need to rest otherwise dark circles will be inevitable. Also, keep your body hydrated and take frequent breaks from the computer. Opting for a humidifier if you are working at home is advisable.
Here are some tips to help take care of your eyes:
  • Spend less time on social media and more time looking at greenery and admiring nature if possible. Early morning walks are the best!
  • Eat meals with family and avoid using mobile phones, laptops and watching TV during meals. This will help you spend time with your family which is something our schedules don’t give us time for!
  • Get into the habit of going to sleep without using your mobile phone. Also, never check your phone the moment you wake up. At this time the eyes are sensitive and the screen will hurt your eyes.
  • Set a fixed amount of time that you will spend daily on your phone and ensure you do not exceed that time.
  • Take care of your eyes. They are a blessing to be cherished!

    A Journey of Self 🌹
    A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.

I have been loving the brand Truly lately ✨ I recently purchased this: 🍃TRULY - CBD Jelly Toning Solution 🍃 And it’s by far one of my favorite toners. I was really concerned about the glycolic acid irritating or drying my skin but it didn’t at all 🤩 I highly recommend this to combo and oily , acne prone skin. This will be a toner I keep in my night routine. I got it from Ulta (of course) for $24 (I paid $15 after coupons) Do you use CBD products? 🍃
    Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
    Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?
    At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
    At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
So I recently received the Mimi Co Exfoliating Wand via IG PR. I couldn’t wait to do a full facial and I decided to do it tonight. Order: I purchased a steamer from Amazon for $23 and I’m obsessed with it (DM me for product info). I started with UpCircle - Cleansing Face Balm With Apricot Powder As my oil cleanse to get my sunscreen from today off and any other oils and dirts. INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash This cleanser is perfect for getting dirts and oils from skin as well. It’s not drying and it’s totally worth it! I paired it with a face cleansing scrub brush, I also purchased from Amazon. I love it and I paid around $20 for it as well! It doubles the vibration frequency put out by Foreo. CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask This was the mask I chose for the enzyme properties. This breaks down dirts and oils in pores and dead skin cells. I also steamed my face during this time. Follain - Toning Mist: Balance + Prime This was what I sprayed over my face for the prep for my exfoliating wand. I didn’t have a true medium and I am out of Aloe Vera plants so😭 I then exfoliated with my wand starting at my cheeks and working upward and then to my forehead. I went down and to the sides of my nose. Glow slow! innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion I used the toner to cleanse my skin and get any dirts left over from me exfoliating. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I use this as my hydrating mask. I took the back of my Mimi Co Wand on switched to the Moisturizing Setting. I gently slid upwards my entire face for the last 2 mins only and then wiped the mask off with a damp cloth. earthtoskin - Tea Time Anti Aging Eye Cream This is the most hydrating eye cream I own. I used this with the back of my cleansing brush on the heat setting! Yes it made my eye feel so hydrated and relaxed. fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer This was the final step as a good moisturizer seals in everything! To prevent acne I use the SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil as my last step. I didn’t use an astringent type toner, so I wanted to still treat my skin💚
