How We're Supporting Our Beauty Community Affected by COVID-19Introducing Cherie's Future Beauty Fund: our way of supporting the future of local beauty businesses and professionals.
Here we are in 2020, unexpectedly sheltered at home for what has now been over a month for most people. Working in the beauty industry, we keep an ear and eye out for all new happenings in the beauty community, and this time around news is more somber than we'd like. Much like the rest of the world, the beauty industry has been affected by our limitations to interact — especially beauty services and professionals who rely on one-on-one contact in order to do their jobs. We're talking facialists, nail technicians, waxers, hair stylists, and barbers, all the beauty magicians who have helped us look and feel our best over the years. Now, if you're like me, you miss your person. You know, that person who does your hair/skin/nails like no one else. You also probably can't wait to book a time with them when we can all leave the house again! With the COVID-19 pandemic making the future seem uncertain, it's hard to say if our favorite businesses and professionals will be there when this is all over. It was this thought that prompted team Cherie to do what we can to help small beauty service businesses and professionals in our home base, LA County. Our $100K Pledge Towards The Future of Local BeautyWe know that local beauty service businesses around the nation are having a tough time unable to take appointments and meet with clients. We wanted to start at our home base, Los Angeles, to help the community we are a part of with the hopes to expand to other cities. Our pledge of $100K to support beauty service businesses and professionals will go like this:1. $50K Towards Beauty Service Businesses Ten small beauty service businesses, like nail shops, hair salons, spas, and so on, will receive $5K from Cherie to support their business. These winners will be nominated and voted for by you — the community that has supported them for years. 2. $50K Towards Beauty ProfessionalsFifty licensed beauty professionals, like cosmetologists, nail technicians, MUAs, and more, will be paid by Cherie to create content on our app and become Cherie Beauty Experts; helping serve our beauty community with the best advice. All For The CommunityThe most important thing we want to keep in mind through all of this is to involve our community to help uplift these beauty service businesses and professionals. In this time, a lot of people feel overlooked, and being there for each other is truly the only way we'll get through this.

BYE BYE STATIC👋
Frizz and fly-aways happen to the best of us. No matter how often we moisturize our hair during the winter, escaping static electricity seems impossible. To better understand how to tame your hair static, you need to know a little bit more about what causes it. So, What Causes Hair Static? Static electricity is created when two objects rub against each other. This swap causes a kind of electric charge to build up on your hair. If there is humidity in the air, the charge can usually just go away on its own.🙏🏼 There’s many ways one can get rid of fly-aways and hair static…You can use hair oils, leave-in conditioners, there’s even some anti-frizz, anti-static hair products you can use. However, I have found a way that works best for me. I got this idea from celebrity hair stylist, Jen Atkin (founder and owner of OUAI). She says that one of the best ways to get rid of fly-aways and hair static is by using a blush brush and hairspray. I have very thick, curly and frizzy hair naturally. My fly-aways and static appear on either side of my parting and they normally appear straight after I wash and straighten my hair. All I want is a sleek smooth look, but these fly-aways always get in the way.🙄 #Sorbet - Flexible and Shine Hairspray[products]#[FiveStars] I use the Flexible and Shine Hairspray from Sorbet. I love this product because it keeps everything in place but doesn’t harden your hair (that’s the worst). I spray this hairspray onto a plain old (no name brand) blush brush, and slowly stroke down the strands of hairs that are static. This really does work like a bomb. You do have to go over the strands a couple of times until all of them are sleek and smoothed down. There’s my little trick of the day. Try it out and let me know if this hack works for you! Paula x
How to Get More Use Out of Your Bright Colors💕
HELLOOOOOOO! I had a much needed mini break yesterday so there was no post BUT TODAY... I wanted to share some awesome tips since for most of us it’s fall/winter season and many of our bright colors are hibernating until spring! If you’re a person who typically says no to bright pinks, oranges, neon greens, etc. in the fall/winter season or don’t know what to do with them, here’s how you can utilize those colors to benefit your look/wardrobe! I set an example in this photograph of a very wearable but bright makeup look. Here’s how I got it to look “put together” without needed to add a boatload of other colors or create a high contrast. By exploring these techniques you can get a softer look but still stay in the same color spectrum 1. Play with the tones of the shade and apply it to different areas of the face! It can be difficult to use multiple shades of the same color spectrum on the face because things can turn messy/muddy very quickly. You might even look sunburnt if you’re using pinks. This can be due to the fact that some colors have the same undertone that creates the final product. Your skintone also plays a role in how the final results will look. The easiest thing you can do is play with these undertones. Have some fun with shades that can be cool or warm in undertone. You can balance out the face by having some cool tones in certain areas and warm in others. This way you won’t look “sickly”, “crazy”, or sunburnt” at the end of everything. In photo 2, you can see towards my eye area that it’s slightly “warmer” than the makeup on the rest of my face, specifically my upper lid area. The shade I created was a mixture of the color “Wild” and “Delicate” from Violet Voss - Sakura Blossom Eyeshadow and Pressed Pigment Palette , which are both warm in color/undertone. Next, I added a light cool-toned pink on my lower lid. I wanted the eyes and cheeks to capture most of the attention. Therefore, adding the cool-toned pink helped add dimension without taking away the focal points of the upper lid and cheeks. The idea is to have a sense of balance. 2. Play with Textures! If you have a ton of shades that have bright colored sparkles/shimmers and don’t know what to do with them, use them here! Imagine this being your wardrobe. You can enhance certain patterns in a blouse or t shirt with another pattern. This concept is the same for eyeshadows/face makeup. The micro-particles can really rejuvenate your makeup and enhance the look to create dimension. Imagine have a full face of the same color of bright matte pink. There might not be that UMPH you see in your typical editorials/makeup photos. By adding some highlights and other textures, it will give your eyes something to look at! Use shimmers that may have a similar color profile if you want a unified look. Other Products Used: WAYNE GOSS - The Weightless Veil Blush Palette 3CE - Velvet Lip Tint Happy Experimenting!
COLLAGEN— THE SECRET TO WRINKLE-FREE SKIN?!
I’ve always heard/been told that once you hit 25 you need to start incorporating collagen into your daily routine. Our bodies natural collagen production begins to decline and adding it or collage- boosting products can help to keep plump, wrinkle-free skin. I am under 25 but that doesn’t mean that I can't still benefit from collagen products. Collagen What is it: Collagen is a protein found in your body that provides it’s structure including the skin, hair and nails. Collagen decline: Many factors decline collagen production including: •age (typically after 25) •sugar/refined carbs •excess sun exposure •smoking How to boost collagen production: Fortunately there are many ways to boost collagen production. Including foods, supplements, and skin care. This can either be incorporated directly from the source (collagen) or by the collagen-boosting foods. Collagen foods: •bone broth •egg whites •fish •lean meat •spirulina Collagen-boosting foods: •vitamin C; such as citrus fruits, broccoli •zinc; such as certain cereals, breads •manganese; such as leafy green vegetables and teas •copper; such as nuts and shellfish Supplemnets: Supplements are an easy way to incorporate collagen into the body. They can be incorporated into foods or drinks making it practical for everyday use. Some forms of supplements include: •gelatin •collagen pills •collagen peptide/protein powders •marine collagen Skincare: If you are using a skincare product this claims to have pure collagen in it, it may not be as beneficial as you’d like it to be. That is because collagen in it’s pure form may be to hard to penetrate through the skin and will leave you with no benefits. When choosing skincare products for collagen, its best to chose products that claim to boost collagen production. These products will contain ingredients mentioned above such as vitamin-c and even retinols. A product that I use that boosts collagen production with the help of active marine plant extracts is: ELEMIS - Pro-Collagen Marine Cream — $128 Key Ingredients: •Padina Pavonica: A unique Mediterranean algae with proven outstanding anti-aging benefits (aids in the production of collagen) •Mimosa: An anti-inflammatory, toning and astringent. It has a pleasing, delicate aroma •Rose: A natural fragrance component with nurturing and calming properties -Ulta.com What is it: Hydrating, wrinkle cream that helps firm the skin. How I use: This cream is intended for day use but I find it way to thick to use during the day. I like to use this cream at night as a moisturizer to seal in all of my other creams and serums. I apply all over my face and neck. Results/Recommendations: Like previously stated, this cream is very thick. I’m prefer lightweight creams over thicker ones. This cream is not irritating and did not cause any side affects for my sensitive skin. However I did not see any dramatic differences for the amount of money the product cost. I feel as if other products work better but I do like that it aids in collagen production. I personally would not repurchase. If you are worried about wrinkles or are interested in living a healthier lifestyle, I would recommend for you to think about incorporating ways to boost your collagen production. This can either be through quitting bad habits such as smoking, making better food choices, or incorporating collagen supplements/skincare into your daily routine. Lastly, if you are a vegetarian, etc. it is good to know that there are plenty of plant-based options available. #CheriePartner
Ingredients Breakdown: Lancôme Best Seller💕
Heyyy guys! Today I want to share my favorite toner with you:💕 Lancôme Confort Tonique!! 💕 Here's the information I got from my dermatologist. Ingredients: 💕 Butylene Glycol: Butylene Glycol used in many self-care products, like shampoo, lotion, masks, cosmetics, etc. It is included in formulas for these types of products because it adds moisture and conditions hair and skin. Here are three major uses of butylene glycol. 🐝 Firstly, butylene glycol is a viscosity-decreasing agent. It makes other ingredients less likely to stick together, giving makeup and self-care products a fluid and even consistency. 🐝 Secondly, butylene glycol is a conditioning agent. Conditioning agents are ingredients that add a layer of softness or improved texture to your hair or skin. 🐝 Thirdly, solvents are ingredients that maintain a liquid consistency in a chemical compound. They help active ingredients that could become gritty or clumpy stay dissolved. 🐝 Butylene glycol benefits for acne： Butylene glycol is in made for people who have acne. It isn’t the active ingredient that treats acne in these products. The moisturizing and solvent properties in butylene glycol could make these products right for you. 💕 Sweet Almond Protein: Hydrolyzed sweet almond protein is a protein extracted from almonds that has been liquefied. It acts as a protective and moisturizing agent. In cleansing products, it reduces skin irritation and improves skin tolerability. 💕 Honey: Honey speeds up your skin cells’ healing processes. If you have blemishes or an eczema outbreak, honey that’s unpasteurized could speed healing and reduce inflammation. Manuka honey is so effective at healing wounds quickly that it’s now used by doctors in clinical settings 💕 Sodium Hyaluronate: Sodium hyaluronate has moisturizing benefits when applied topically to skin tissue. No injections are required. In addition, it mimics hyaluronic acid produced naturally by the body. It's non-irritating to skin and is usually well tolerated even by people with sensitive skin. It also has the ability to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin, and also attracts and binds water. This effect can plump the skin, thus reducing the look of wrinkles and making skin younger-looking ✨ Overall, I highly recommend this product to you, especially if you have dry skin!! ✨
AMONG US MAKEUP PRODUCT LIST
I’ve been asked multiple times by my awesome TikTok community to do a makeup look inspired by the popular video game, Among Us. I wanted to create an avant-garde version of their intro screen and promo posters, where the lil astronauts were all in space. Then I added all the colors mixed into a rectangular block on my face to match how the characters look. Being inspired by something popular doesn’t mean you have to give up on your aesthetic ❤️ If you want to see how I applied everything, check out my tiktok tutorial @cindychendesigns!
