Though Cherie is a beauty app for beauty lovers, we also truly believe in our responsibility to stand for important causes. We're celebrating Earth Day all week here at Cherie with our sustainability awareness campaign called "A Breath of Fresh Air". This week, we'll be sharing different ways we can be, and provide, a breath of fresh air to ourselves and the earth. Think doing small activities like walking or biking instead of driving, or purchasing from brands that give back to the earth. After all, everything begins with us! Sometimes I feel like I'm on a never-ending hunt to find the best beauty products. Fueled by curiosity more than anything, this mission can sometimes feel moot—what exactly am I looking for and why does it never end? It started simply with looking products products that work for me. Then, I wanted products that work AND have clean ingredients, so that change happens skin deep and not just on the surface (plus, clean formulas are overall better for you!). Next, I wanted skincare that does all of the above AND does right by the earth; from formulation to shipping. While a utopian beauty product may have seemed impossible before, Codex Beauty makes this possible and sets a new standard for the rest of the beauty world when it comes to clean, sustainable beauty from beginning to end. A Little Bit About This Too-Good-To-Be-True (but it is) BrandCodex Beauty is a brand to watch. One quick look at their website and you get that clean, airy feel that already makes you think this brand is up to some good. And truly, they are. Here's what Codex is up to:The FormulasCodex Beauty is a bioscience led company, which means nature and science come together to form incredibly effective organic skincare. Codex brings together scientists, botanists, technologists, cosmetic chemists, and dermatologists to weigh in on every product from start to finish. What Codex does so well is harness the power of nature into their formulas with no synthetics or any unpronounceable ingredients—if it didn't come from a plant, it's not in here.

The PackagingThis was the most impressive thing for me. Codex's green tubes are made of plants! They use a plant-based polyethylene tube which is a sustainable plastic alternative coming from sugarcane waste. This has allowed their carbon footprint to decrease up to 81%. In addition, all their cartons are made from renewable fresh fiber that comes from sustainably managed forests, making them 100% recyclable. What I thought About The Products Codex was so kind to send me some products to try, and I was so impressed with how well everything worked. For one week, I tried the Bia Exfoliating Wash, Bia Skin Superfood, and Bia Day Cream. Each product delivered a muted floral scent and gentle formula that felt like it was doing its job, even if I applied just a small amount of product. While a week of use didn't yield any tremendous results to my skin, I will say that it was visibly calmer. I used it around the time of my pre-menstrual cycle, and I typically breakout along my chin but this time I didn't! I also used the Skin Superfood on my eczema-ridden hands (all this hand and dishwashing is taking a toll) and saw some amazing results to my inflamed hands. This alone is enough for me to recommend the entire Bia line from Codex Beauty! The only presumably downside is the premium price tag. Though it is expensive, it is absolutely worth it because the care and thoughtfulness of the entire supply chain will make you feel confident that your dollar is going towards a new, better standard in sustainable beauty.

The Bia Line from Codex Beauty, RankedThis cream is amazing. I love how it smells lightly of calendula, and I love this so much on my hands. This has really calmed the eczema on my hands currently; putting a halt to redness and itch! Usually I need hydrocortisone to stop my eczema from itching, but this is my new holy grail. This day cream is incredibly light on the skin but keeps your skin supple all day long. I'm super impressed with how potent it is, mainly because the consistency isn't super thick. I realized after using this day cream that I'm super used to rich moisturizers and thick formulas to feel like things work. Well, Codex has proven me wrong! As exfoliating washes go, this is one of my favorites. I love how gentle and soft it is on my skin while still feeling like it's exfoliating. I prefer chemical exfoliants which is why this is my least favorite of the line, but I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to replace their harsh walnut or apricot face scrubs.

Curology vs The Ordinary! Which is better?!
Curology vs The Ordinary! Which is better?!
Curology - Curology formula This is the first photo! Did wonders for my skin it was the best it had ever been since I started getting acne in middle school. Curology literally saved my skin, it was clear and great! (Over a year later) The second photo:/ I decided to stop using curology around 2 months ago and start using ordinary products. I decided to do this because I wanted to see if the ordinary could do the same thing as curology and maybe make my skin even better. This wasn’t because curology was bad or anything It was just something I wanted to test. I was pretty confident in my skin so I didn’t think it would be bad. I saw on social media how great it was so I figured why not? ... After slowly introducing ordinary products into my skincare routine to ( i used both ordinary and curology products together) I could see that my skin was breaking out more when I introduced the ordinary products. I didn’t think much of it cause I knew that my skin was just purging from the new products. After about 2 months of using both curology and ordinary products I decided to just try ordinary products because my skin was breaking out a lot and I felt that the ordinary would help it. (I think should’ve stuck with curology but this was just my curiosity about the product). ... (Now) I am on week 6 of using all ordinary products and this is what my skin looks like (photo 2) and I’m not happy with the results:/The first couple weeks I knew I would be purging, my skin was at its worst a couple weeks ago (week 3). But I figured that by now or next week my skin would be clear( the only reason I felt that my skin would be pretty much clear by now or next week was because while using curology all my acne was gonna by week 7). So I’m still trying to figure out if I wanna continue to use the ordinary products for a couple more weeks before I give up because it’s not giving me the results I want. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I don’t really know how to rate this because obviously it hasn’t worked for my skin very well but I’m not sure if it’s because my skin needs more time to adjust (it has been 6 weeks so...). I think that this product works great for some people but for me definitely not. Right from the start of using it, it broke me out and then once I only used this line of products it made my skin terrible. I also used The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Which didn’t do much in the 6weeks I used it. I did feel like it helped my acne a little. Overall I really did wish this line of products would help my acne and make my skin clear like curology but that wasn’t the case. This product line is definitely not for my skin. I’ll write out my skin care routine comparisons in my next post!

3 Easy Ways to Volumize Your Hair
3 Easy Ways to Volumize Your Hair
Hair concerns: Flat, Thin These are my 3 quick, go-to hair tips for volumizing my hair! This is great for when you’re on the go and don’t have too much time on your hands. 1. Use a Root Volumizer Hot Tool (Bed Head Little Tease Hair Crimper for Outrageous Texture and Volume) - Using this root volumizer hot tool will give you the volume of teased hair without the tangled knots and hairspray. It works by making small crimps or waves in your hair and gives your roots volume from the texture it creates. Just make sure to cover your roots with a layer of hair to conceal the textured areas. - Directions: Clamp the hot tool at your roots, brush it out with your fingers, and cover it with a layer of hair. Spray a moderate amount of hair spray to keep it in place. 2. Dry Shampoo - Thin, flat hair usually looks lifeless because of the lack of texture and thinness of the hair shaft. This means that having freshly washed hair can actually be your worst enemy if you’re going for a volumized look. Adding in a hair product can help at the roots by allowing for your hair to be styled into place. You can use any texturizing spray to do so, but I like to use dry shampoo especially for second-hair days! It helps soak up the oils in my hair as well as volumizing my roots. - Directions: Use any dry shampoo your own and spray onto your roots and brush it out. 3. Hair Extensions - Adding hair extensions onto your head will effortlessly give the illusion that your hair is much thicker than it actually is. The added layers will make the roots of your hair appear uplifted. You can choose from lengthening hair extensions (like mine) or extensions that match your hair length. Either way, it’ll make your hair on your head look much fuller. - Directions: Use clip-in hair extensions and clip it onto your roots. Cover the clip-ins with a layer of hair and spray hairspray it to keep it in place. #cheriepartner #sponsored
