Download the app today to be a part of #BeautyWithoutBarriers and show the world what beauty means to you! When it comes to putting together a flawless makeup look, you have to start with a flawless base! I, for one, am SO picky when it comes to my foundation routine. I try to only use high-end products that are vegan and cruelty-free — but that comes with a steep price. Scrolling through Cherie last week, I found so many drugstore products that users claimed were worth the hype and I couldn't help but follow my intrigue. Thus, the online shopping ensued and I decided to test out some classic Cherie drugstore face products to see if my bougie routine is actually worth it. I decided I would test a full drugstore foundation routine — e.l.f. Putty Primer, Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, L.A. Girl Concealer, Coty Airspun powder, Milani Bronzer, Milani Baked Blush, and Wet 'N' Wild MegaGlo Highlighter — as well as a Real Techniques Complexion Sponge and Maybelline Super Stay Liquid Ink Lipstick for good measure. I'm here to answer the question — which of these drugstore products are going to pass the test?Upon application, I was pretty happy with all of the products! Notably, the foundation and powder were very thick and the blush was hard to get a good color payoff out of, but all of these products are clearly rated well on Cherie for a reason! I will say that the scent of the Coty Airspun powder is VERY pungent (thing floral baby powder,) so steer clear if scents aren't your thing! Two hours into my wear test and things are still looking good! Within these two hours, I ate lunch, drank lots of water, and worked from my desk at home, and my makeup didn't budge! However, I did start noticing a bit of flaking from the lipstick, some under eye creasing, and it also became aware that my foundation was getting a bit crusty around my mouth and chin. Even so, this is pretty typical Four hours down and we're doing... Okay. I decided to truly put this makeup to the test and went on a short hike, just to see how it would stand up to sweat. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised. However, this is also the first time I took a photo with flash on and HOLY FLASHBACK! I hadn't even realied just how much of a white cast was left from the Coty Airspun powder, but there it is. I also noticed that the areas of my face where I'm typically oily (my nostrils, cheeks, and t-zone) seemed exaggerated at this point along with some visible blemishes, but nothing too crazy.By hour 6, I was back in my home office and nothing had really changed. I could see the same oiliness peeking through and the same color missing from my lips but no crazy change. At this point, however, I was starting to really be bothered by how much the blemishes on my cheeks and chin were showing through. For a full-coverage foundation, I assumed it would last for at least 6 hours, but I was wrong.By the time I'd had this full face on for 8 hours, I was over it completely. My face felt heavy and oily and just plain gross. It was at this point in my work day where I was really questioning my choices in this test and I wanted nothing more than to take off my makeup and shower for a long, long time. But, I persisted. It was also at this point that I realized both my highlighter on my cheek bones as well and the concealer under my eyes was completely missing. Where they went? The world may never know.Hour 10. The end of an era (or so it feels.) Taking these final photos was an interesting experience. At the end of the day, I really wasn't expecting such a huge difference between a fresh face and what I would see hours later. My natural oils had all but destroyed the look and the makeup was next to non-existent. As for the lips, they were so dry and flakey that I'm afraid I'll have to do a deep nourishment mask on them every night until they get a little better.Overall, I think the test itself was successful while the products were not. All in all, I don't think I can recommend any of the products I used in this test if you're looking for something that is very long-wear and won't flake or straight up disappear on you. However, if you're a casual makeup wearer or you're looking for something on a budget, these products could work for you. But don't come crying to me if your foundation is gone by the end of a long day! I warned you.

HOLY GRAIL SPF 🌞🌞🌞
Okay guys as I have said before I am guilty of rarely ever wearing sunscreen. I just never liked the feel of it on my skin. I always felt like it made me greasy & clogged my pores. However, once I heard about this product I was very intrigued. NIOD - Survival 30 It actually isn’t sold in the United States for some reason so I had to purchase it on a UK website. (Beauty Bay) It is an antioxidant serum with SPF 30. At first, it appears to be tinted but it’s actually not. On NIOD’s website they state: “The slight tinted appearance is derived from the active technologies including Lutein, Fractionated Melanin and Pycnogenol.” It blends in with your skin so easily & does not leave a white cast like some other SPF products. However this serum literally makes my skin tone soo even & perfect! It also contains silicone so it completely smooths over my pores. AND besides all that great stuff, it’s a mineral sunscreen! So it protects against environmental & lifestyle issues. Like UV rays, blue light, etc. I have never loved a product as much as this one! I literally cannot believe how good my skin looks while using this stuff! For a 30ml bottle, I paid $33 on the Beauty Bay site. For me, that is completely worth it! It comes in this adorable packaging & pretty glass bottle. It also has a pump dispenser & squirts out the perfect amount for a single use! I really can’t recommend this stuff enough guys! It’s wonderful!! @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick
Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?
Stay Young Forever? ✨
That’d be great right? Well in taking those steps, I definitely recommend these amazing serums. I was gifted the: Intoxicated Cosmetics: Snake Serum Bee Serum Snail Serum I started using the Snail Serum last night first and wow did I notice a difference. The Snail Serum mainly targets dryness. I used this in place of my usual night time serum and boy did I notice a difference. I N G R E D I E N T S : All Serums contain: ✨Niacinamide Bee Serum: Bee Venom Plant Based Stem Cells Royal Epigen Snake Serum Snake Venom Green & White Tea Extract Peptides Snail Serum Snail Peptide Hyadisine Echinacea Moronga Oil Extract I definitely will try the other serums in my routine as I get used to the Snail Serum but so far my skin is definitely happy. What serum would you like to try?
Clear Hydrated Skin The Clean Way✨
Staying in the trend of clean beauty, I have found an amazing product to add to my everyday routine. Odacité SKINCARE - Blue Aura Cleansing Water This is a cleansing water that is marketed to use in place of your cleanser for a “quick” clean. When looking for a good cleansing water, you want one that is hydrating and gets your face clean. Keep in mind not all cleansing waters are designed to clean makeup (I highly recommend a cleansing balm and cleanser). About This Brand: ✨Vegan ✨Cruelty Free ✨Certified Organic ✨ NO: Fillers | Parabens | Nanoparticles | Petrochemicals | PEG | Synthetic perfumes | Dyes | Phenoxyethanol. This cleansing water is so hydrating and satisfying to use. It smells very fresh and a little goes a long way. What is very important to me is my dry spot aren’t tight or irritated. I have been using this day and night and have seen amazing results acne and skin barrier wise. I included this in my routine after a regular cleanser and before my serums. So essentially, I use this as a “toner”. I do this to clean up anything my cleanse left behind, or the cleanser itself. INGREDIENTS: ✨Tumeric: Amazing for hyperpigmentation and overall skin brightness ✨Holy Basil: I drink the tea and can vouch this is an amazing adaptogen that can overall benefit every aspect of your life. It combats aging and free radical damage. ✨Neem: great anti aging ingredient that helps protects your skin barrier. ✨Aloe Vera Juice: this is great for your skin barrier overall. It hydrated, protects and brightens. I highly recommend this cleansing water and it is on sale for $9 at Boxycharm Pop Up 🥰🥰
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
