We Kept Getting These Beauty Brands As Instagram Ads, So We Tried ThemWe admit, the marketing got to us. But, we're happy to report that these brands are worthy of a spend.
Cherie is an online community of beauty lovers sharing their stories, whether that's their favorite products, makeup tutorials, or skincare routines. Download the app today to be a part of #BeautyWithoutBarriers and show the world what beauty means to you! You know how when you talk about something, it shows up as an ad on your Instagram feed? Well here at Cherie, we're always talking about beauty; from how to treat our skin concerns, to the next hottest product, to makeup trends we've got to try. To no ones surprise, our team's IG feeds are full of unsolicited (but surely welcome) ads for various beauty brands claiming to remedy whatever concern we were just speaking of. We decided to give these brands a chance and see if they actually work! Plus, we're always game for finding the next best beauty products.Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions MascaraWe started getting this ad when we were talking about mascaras that work well for short lashes. Lo and behold, Thrive Causemetics showed up! If you haven't heard of this brand, it's the latest buzz in clean beauty. This mascara in particular has some of pretty amazing claims: it extends lashes with buildable fibers while orchid stem cells encourage lash growth—basically, it lengthens your lashes whether you have it on and off.

thrive causemeticsLiquid Lash Extensions Mascara™The Verdict: Sherry tried this mascara and has thin, straight lashes with a medium length. ✅Great for length 🚫Gives no volume ✅Dries quickly 🚫Gets clumpy ✅Holds a curl 🚫Not waterproof ✅Stays put ✅Comes off easily with a little warm water ✅Overall, use if you like length and long-lasting formulas 🚫Didn't visibly promote lash growthUZ Lip TreatmentSo, this ad popped up on my (Ann's) feed so many times. I don't know if they knew I had the driest lips ever, but I was sold once I heard that this lip treatment would teach my lips how to moisturize themselves (!!!!). According to the website, this lip treatment is Japan's #1 lip treatment and uses patented technology, called Multi Flora, that bonds to the skin's microbes and amplifies their power, helping your lips moisturize themselves. The Verdict: I tried this lip treatment on my dry, flakey lips. ✅Super moisturizing ✅Looks great ✅High shine ✅Light color ✅Healthier lips after 4 days 🚫Didn't teach lips to moisturize themselves; works well as long it's being used 🚫Lips are dry again once I stopped usingAlleyoop Pen Pal This oh-so-cute brand has been on our radar for some time! They specialize in on-the-go, hardworking beauty products that save your time, and space. Amber tried the Pen Pal which is a 4-in-1 makeup pen featuring retractable pencils in brown, black, dusty pink, and opalescent white. According to Alleyoop, it looks good on every skin type, and works just as well.
alleyoopPen PalThe Verdict:🚫OK application; 6/10 🚫Lip color didn't match with Amber's skin tone 🚫Highlighter needs a lot of blending out ✅Eybrow pencil (brown) is a good match ✅Very natural looking ✅Good for on-the-go, if you're in a rush and have no other optionGleamin' Vitamin C Clay Mask Another very popular beauty trend on Instgram are skincare products that help with hyperpigmentation. There seem to be no shortage of dark-spot-fighting face masks! Gleamin' was no exception. With amazing reviews, Varshini gave this turmeric-based clay mask a try for 7 days to see if it would even her skin tone, fade dark spots, and improve texture.
Gleamin'Vitamin C Clay MaskThe Verdict: Varshini has a combination skin with acne scarring and texture.✅Incredibly smooth mask with a very bright color ✅A little goes a long way! ✅Leaves you a bit dry after (follow-up with a hydrating toner!) ✅Smells of fresh lemons ✅Easily washes off 🚫No visible difference to hyperpigmentation after one week 🚫No visible difference in skin texture after one week

THIS IS A FRESH 👏🏾START 👏🏾
THIS is why I love BoxyCharm 🙌🏾 These products wouldn’t have been on my radar, but they were delivered right to my door + I absolutely LOVE all of them! And this olive eye!! I’m feelin it! Full tutorial and review are on YouTube now! Link in bio ❤️ Product List: #Violet Voss - Olive You Forever[products]#[FiveStars] This is my first time trying this brand and I'm really impressed! The shadows are creamy, pigmented, and super blendable! FARMACY - Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer with Moringa and Papaya I love the cleansing balm so I was excited to try this! It has definitely helped my skin stay hydrated and even makes it look more glowy and matte! I love the texture and it absorbs quickly! #Avant Skincare - Bi-Phase Hyaluronic Acid Rejuvenating Micellar Water[products]#[FourStars] This reneges ALL my makeup, even mascara, with no issues! My skin feels smooth and hydrated after using it. However, it has a LOT of fragrance. I don't mind the smell, but it does linger. #Seraphine Botanicals - Apple + Baume Glow Lip Mask[products]#[FiveStars] A great lip mask! Hydrated lips nicely! I like applying this as I start my makeup routine and it's usually absorbed by the time I get to my lips. #Trust Fund Beauty - Lipgasm Lip Gloss[products]#[FourStars] this is a pretty gloss but it is a bit sticky. What do you think about this box?
this is a DRAWSTRING ponytail 👀🔥
Drawstring ponytails have come a lonnnnng way! I have to admit, I never thought drawstring ponytails could look good, but bay-bee I was WRONG! I’m loving the #Indique - Remix Organic Curl Ponytail[products]#[FiveStars] First of all, it’s human hair, unlike a lot of ponytail extensions. All of your hair is protected in a little cap, which I love, and it’s versatile! One major note: when you receive this hair it’s not fluffed. I tried to finger comb it, and that wasn’t the best method as I had some shedding and tangling. However, when I sprayed this hair down with water I had NO issues! This hair is dyed, so some of the dye may transfer to your fingers while styling it. All of these styles were created with this ponytail 🙌🏾 It’s the perfect way for me to turn a bad hair day around real quick! I really appreciate seeing quality textured ponytail extensions on the market. Swipe through to see the styles! I even did a braid out on this ponytail 😍 BOMB! What’s your favorite style? Full styling guide on the blog, link in bio! #gifted
this isn't a lipstick 👀💋
I did a little video with some of my favorite reds a little while ago, but I feel like NYX - Intense Butter Gloss in Apple Crisp deserves its own post! It's glossy, pigmented, AND affordable... we love to see it! 🙌🏾
are pore bubbling masks worth it? 🧼🛁💬
since COVID has started, I know many people are on new (or refining old) skincare journeys and I’ve recently been experiencing some dryness/dehydrating as the winter rolls around, which also aggravates my already oily skin. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for a while and also was formerly an esthetician, so I can get picky with skincare and ingredients. ‼️for reference, my skin type is: combo (oily/dehydrated), formerly acneic, hyperpigmentation prone, and sensitive 🔬I’ve used Dr. Jart in the past and love that it’s a Korean, science-backed brand so I was stoked to try this Porecting Solution Mask! this mask promises fresh, clear glowing skin that deeply cleanses and purifies pores. the mask contains charcoal and saponine, which creates the bubbling effect you see in the above photo. this product does not contain sulfates, paragons, are phthalates. 🛁when I first took it out of its package, I thought there were *two* masks per package instead of one, but if you read the instructions, there’s actually a “mask film” on the actual mask itself that you’re supposed to remove, so make sure to do that! the actual mask is thick and full of product while the mask film is thinner and lighter in color. the directions also give you a tip to massage the mask to release the bubbling/foaming effect - I did this mask with my mom at the same time in separate rooms and she totally didn’t read the instructions so her mask didn’t bubble at all, so I would suggest to definitely massage the mask. 💬I left it on for 20 minutes and it continued to bubble about 5-10 minutes in, then stopped bubbling. you can hear the bubbles pop as the mask sits on your face, which is kinda weird but cool. the mask didn’t slip off AT ALL which is also a huge, even when I put a sweatshirt on over my head. after taking it off, the serum took about another 10 minutes to soak into my skin and my face felt super smooth and my pores looked tighter and more clean. I have a few sebaceous filaments on my nose that I sometimes pick at and as I was rubbing the serum into my skin, I saw that some of the sebaceous filaments on my nose were sloughing off (which is gross, but speaks to how well the product worked)! overall, I would definitely recommend and use this again! if you have oily skin or otherwise clogged pores, sebaceous filaments, blackheads, etc. I would suggest this for you. even if you have dry/normal skin, this would be a good option since my skin didn’t feel dried out at all afterward, even in my dry spell now, and felt rather hydrated and plump. five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
