Yep! Double masking is totally a thing! It’s kinda like using multiple leave on products to treat multiple concerns, but in the supercharged and extra pampering routine of masking. It can be super fun and helpful for your soon as long as it’s done to not harm the skin. A recent combination I have come up with is to do the The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution followed by the SKINCEUTICALS - PHYTO CORRECTIVE MASK Calming Face Mask For Blotchy Skin . This combo will resurface my skin and then calm and soothe the new skin that is revealed. By stripping away the dead stuff and then nourishing and hydrating the new stuff I am eliminating irritation and redness I usually get when I do the peel by itself. This combo also ensures that my skin will be revealed even healthier by immediately soothing it and hydrating it so that it can stay healthy and not potentially dry out and become dull. The peel is amazing as it truly tingles away all the built up texture and dead skin and diving into the pores to clear up blockages. The phyto mask is heavenly because it’s such a thick gel that soothes immediately. I could tell my skin was a little more sensitized this time I used the peel because the phyto mask stung a touch before feeling just cooling and calming. A match made in heaven if you ask me! So double masking can be great, but I would never suggest a combination such as a clay mask after the peel because you would be stripping the skin too much and opening up for potential strong irritation. I also have wouldn’t use a vitamin c mask with an exfoliation mask since that could lead to irritation as well. And further, a gel mask and then a sheet mask would just feel redundant! Double masking is lovely for a special event or a pamper evening like my once a week peel, but it’s not a necessity nor does it need to be often :) Happy masking!!
Battle of the Hyped Sunscreens
My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked these popular hyped sunscreens based on how they worked for me personally (going from favorite to least favorite). My favorite is Unseen because it’s a primer and sunscreen in one, is lightweight and I haven’t had an issue with pilling. I prefer SPF 40 or higher. . Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Key Ingredients: Complex Derived from Meadowfoam Seed (increases hydration levels), and Red Algae (helps protect against blue light emitted by electronic devices). Texture/Consistency: Gel Scent: None Price: $34 for 1.7 oz / 50 mL Experience: Is designed to be used as a primer, makes it quicker to get ready. It feels so lightweight, I can’t even tell that I’m wearing it throughout the day, doesn’t pill or make me oily. Repurchase/Recommend?: Yes, I definitely am going to purchase the full size of this! It simplifies my routine and lightweight. . Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion 50 Default Title Key Ingredients: Sunflower Extract (protects your skin from external environmental elements) and Rosemary Leaf Extract (has a calming effect on the skin and is rich in antioxidants). Texture/Consistency: Lotion Scent: None Price: $32 for 5.5 oz / 162 mL OR $58 for 18 oz / 532 mL Experience: It was too heavy on top of a moisturizer and made me look greasy, but applied by itself it was lovely (have a glow, but wasn’t too heavy). It also doesn’t pill when I put my makeup on. Repurchase/Recommend?: Yes, it would be more for people with dry skin, but it’s moisturizing enough to act as my moisturizer too so I apply it by itself (or on top of serum). . FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF 30 Key Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (physical sunscreen that helps filter harmful UV rays) and Alteromonas Ferment Filtrate and Vitamin E (both help protect against environmental aggressors). Scent: None Texture/Consistency: Liquidy Price: $34 for 1.5 oz / 44 mL Experience: I love that this is tinted, it doesn’t leave a white cast at all! It is lightweight, easily sinks in, and doesn’t make me oily throughout the day. It also doesn’t pill at all, so easy to put makeup on after. Repurchase/Recommend?: Maybe, I just wish it was a higher SPF. . DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 Key Ingredients: Zinc Oxide (physical sunscreen that protects from harmful rays) and Algae Extract and Sunflower Sprout Extract (both protect against free radical damage). Scent: None Texture/Consistency: Lightweight Cream Price: $36 for 2 oz / 60 mL Experience: It feels heavy and doesn’t sink in all the way, plus pilled and made my CC Cream look cakey and terrible. Repurchase/Recommend?: No, it pilled badly and doesn’t work well with makeup on me.
•2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser•
Body Merry - Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser was given to me as a gratis. The representative of this brand was saying great things about this cleanser and so I gave it a try Body Merry is a natural skincare brand that claims to use all natural ingredients. The purpose of this products is to unclog pores from impurities as well as remove dead skin cells because of glycolic acid. Helps brightening, nourish, and moisturize the skin. I am prone to acne and was a little skeptical using it because of olive and jojoba oil do not do well with my skin. However, after using it for almost a month I noticed some changes on my skin. Before using this my skin was looking dull, had a lot of oil buildup on my t-zone, dark spots from previous breakouts. After using for almost a month my skin looked radiant, I saw less oil around my t-zone, and I also had less breakouts. As for my dark spots some were still visible (but as we know sometimes we need a different product to help with those areas). What I love about it is that the beads (made out of jojoba wax see 2nd picture) were gentle. This product had a citrusy smell but it was not over powering were my skin felt irritation. In fact after cleansing my skincare felt moisturized, smooth, and radiant. As you read at the beginning my concern of suing this product was olive and jojoba oil however, because of the following ingredients my skin had no bad reaction. 🔅Glycolic Acid - a chemical exfoliator helps remove dead skin cells as well treats acne & scars, hyperpigmentation and more 🔅 Willow Bark - an alternative salicylic acid because it contains salicin (source of SA) helps treat acne and decrease excess oil. 🔅 Kojic Acid- helps with hyperpigmentation and dark spots ( however due to all these great ingredients it is less effective) 🔅 Tea tree oil - antibacterial & antibacterial properties 🔅 Oils such as rose hip, olive, & jojoba help moisturize & nourish skin 🔅 CICA- this ingredient is low but it has its effects helps soothe skin & one of my holy grail ingredients for acne My overall expensive I enjoyed it because it was gentle and I would use it 3 times a week when exfoliating. Price: Retail price - $19.99 Current the brand website is having a discount of a $1 off) *Remember not all will have the same skin reaction, be gentle to your skin and get to know your skin*
Your Skin But Better In A Bottle!
Here’s a little background on my skin. She’s a high maintenance b*tch that likes to suck my bank account dry. Boujee on a budget it? 75% of the time for her that’s not the case. I hate her for it. I can’t stand that my skin looks so PERFECT when I applied Pat McGraths skin fetish foundation because this little bottle cost me $68 plus tax!😵 It looks so amazing that I bought two bottles: shade 5 a light neutral undertone for when I’m fair in the winter and shade 14 a medium neutral undertone when I’m the most sun kisssd in the summer. With these two bottles I’m also able to customize my shade when I’m in between shades during the year. Now to be honest I don’t wear makeup everyday. 90% of the time I’m bare faced. I usually put in makeup if I’m going somewhere special such as an event, on a date, feeling creative or when I need to remind myself that I’m still that b*tch. So I’m actually okay with spending a little more on a nice foundation because I know it’ll last me a long time and if it’s worth it. So the question is..is it worth it? For me YES! I bought her toward the end of summer 2019 and it has served me well through the changing NYC weather and my ever adjusting skin. Whether my skin was really dry or slightly oily the foundation sat on my skin perfectly throughout the day. It’s a nice medium coverage foundation that can be built up or sheered out depending on the look you’re going for. 1/2 to 3/4 or a pump is enough for me to get a sheer/light natural coverage where it looks like my skin just the imperfections have been discreetly masked. To get full glam coverage I can get away with one and a half pumps then not even a beauty mark in my face will peak through! In my profile picture was the first time I used the foundation and I really sheered it out because it was a hot summer day. That day I got a little oily in my t zone but the foundation lasted all day. I don’t really blot or powder because I like the dewy look on myself but also I don’t because I’m lazy and I forget and most of the time at the end of the day I genuinely don’t care haha! In my last picture that I added in this post was when I was feeling creative and really used a heavy hand to apply the foundation. In that post I DID NOT PHOTOSHOP OR BLUR MY SKIN!!!! All I did was adjust the lighting in light room and added a filter to make the three images to blend better. But I couldn’t believe how airbrushed my face came out. The proof is in the pudding. I think it shows how far you can go with this foundation.
HOW I FIGHT ACNE WITH MY SKINCARE ROUTINE
Acne comes from so many different reasons. But generally there are a few tricks that really help to prevent and treat them. SALICYLIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator Known for: combating whiteheads & blackheads by penetrating into the pores of the skin and unclogging them This exfoliating toner is amazing at preventing future breakouts because it’s so effective at unclogging pores and keeping them clear. My blackheads have also diminished so much since using this toner and I definitely can’t turn back. It’s quite strong so even I don’t use it every day and night. I’ll take it out only when I feel like my skin is getting congested (around 1-2x a week). AZELAIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster Known for: gently exfoliating the surface and refining texture of the skin This is a great booster to mix in with moisturizer whenever I feel like my skin is breaking out a lot and very congested. It’s not super strong especially mixed into the last step of my skincare routine but definitely helps to smooth texture. RETINOL: SKINCEUTICALS - RETINOL 0.5 Retinol night cream Known for: speeding up our skin’s natural cell turnover to reveal newer and clearer skin I’ve used a retinol for more than a year now and I’ve seen the biggest improvement in my skin regarding breakouts and texture. I use it as the last step of my skincare routine every other day now and it’s just a great way to keep my skin healthy over the longterm. NIACINAMIDE: THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Known for: helping to control oil production by renewing and restoring the surface of the skin against moisture loss Especially with living in a humid climate currently, my skin has been freaking out a lot. But this serum helps so much with promoting my skin to be balanced and self-regulating. My T-zone doesn’t get as oily but doesn’t feel dry either! SUNSCREEN: SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Okay sunscreen doesn’t DIRECTLY correlate with breakouts, although, there are definitely some that can cause breakouts for some people, mainly physical ones (so find one that doesn’t break you out)! This sunscreen doesn’t break me out and in fact helps with my skin durinf breakouts so much because it protects my skin from hyperpigmentation! The scarring that comes after a breakout can be just as annoying as the breakout itself but sunscreen helps so much to speed up the recovering and healing process!
