Or how about this scenario? You had a true blue cleanser for a while, but forgot about it when you started experimenting with other potions. It’s fun to discover new tips and tricks in the world of beauty products, and there’s always something new to sample! But it can be so rewarding to rediscover an old favourite, or something you tried before that didn’t quite work as you expected. Not sure where to start? Cherie beauty has your back. Here’s our round up of misunderstood or forgotten beauty products we think deserve another chance.TonerToners get a seriously bad reputation. Ask any esthetician, and this is one of their number one gripes! A classic skin care routine should be anchored by 3 steps: cleanse, tone, moisturize. A lot of us shy away from toners thanks to the erroneous assumption that it dries the skin. This is likely thanks to old fashioned toners that go heavy on the alcohol to give you a satisfying tingling sensation- all while stripping you dry! A good toner will balance your skin PH, and actually prep it to absorb moisture. Stay away from toners with high alcohol levels, sodium laureth sulfate, and petroleum.Lush “Breath of Fresh Air” TonerOur favourite is Lush’s “breath of fresh air.” The ingredients are groovy for any skin type, and the spray pump makes it easy to apply. Just spritz, wipe of access with a cotton pad, and follow up with your favourite moisturizer.Tea Tree oilYou probably used tea tree oil in High School, but maybe you haven’t thought about it in a while. It’s often recommended for teens because of its gentle acne fighting abilities. Tea Tree is derived from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, which is native to Australia. Tea tree is lovely on your face, body, and even around the house! It has the cleansing benefits of alcohol without the harsh effects or chemical smell. You don’t have to be acne prone to reap the beautifying benefits this plant has to offer.Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Face Wash FoamWe love this product because it comes straight from the Aussie source. The tea tree effectively cleanses, while calming chamomile combats redness. It’s gentle enough for all skin types, and vegan to boot!

Thursday PlantationTea Tree Face Wash FoamEye CreamThe biggest mistake you can make with eye cream is putting it off. We tend to be so results-driven with our beauty products, we forget to be preventative. Eye cream may not look like it's having much of an effect on youthful peepers, but you’ll thank yourself later. The skin around your eye is so sensitive. If you’ve tried eye cream in the past and felt irritated by it, it was likely due to your application technique. Use your ring finger to gently tap your eye cream to damp, freshly toned skin. Stay slightly below the eye to avoid irritation. Lastly, let your eye cream set in for a couple minutes before applying moisturizer. If you apply a thicker cream right away, your eye cream goes along with it! You’ll be nice and hydrated, but your undereyes won’t get the targeted attention they need.Glossier Bubblewrap Eye & Lip Plumping CreamWe love this product because it has an immediate plumping effect, so you can see the results right away. The intense hydration helps you out in the long haul, making it a “best of both worlds” product. Bubblewrap is even contact lense wearer approved- so there’s no excuse not to try it.
Glossier.Bubblewrap Eye + Lip Plumping CreamSponges and Beauty BlendersBeauty blenders and similar sponges have been FRAMED for eating up too much foundation! Did you ditch the blender in favour of a brush, or even your fingers? At Cherie, we’re all about using whatever works best for you- but we’d like to invite you to give the sponge another chance. Blenders and sponges give your skin a gorgeous, diffused look when used with your favourite foundation. As a sponge, these squishy little guys like to eat up moisture, so you’ll want to wet yours before using it. Run your sponge under the tap and squeeze out the excess til it's plump, but not wet. Once the blender has been properly moisturized, your liquid foundation stays on the surface.E.L.F. Total Face SpongeNo budget for a beauty blender? No problem! This effective little number from e.l.f. costs less than your Starbucks run. Added bonus? E.l.f. products are 100% cruelty free.
e.l.f.Total Face SpongePressed PowderIn today’s High Definition world, nobody wants to look cakey or flakey, but that doesn’t mean avoiding a pressed powder foundation. Gone are the days of thick “cake” makeup that settled into fine lines. Listen to your aunt Cherie- there’s a world of bouncy, beautiful powders out there to discover. If you have oily or combination skin, or are looking for a final step to your full coverage foundation routine, pressed powders are your perfect match. Swipe a little across your t-zone on light days, or build up that coverage on a night out. Either way, powders can give you the photo finish you want without sacrificing your skin’s natural silkiness.MAC Mineralize Skinfinish NaturalWe love this powder from MAC because it's lightly pearlescent for a 3 dimensional finish, and infused with Vitamin E to hydrate your precious skin while keeping oil at bay. The best thing about it? MAC has a wide selection of shades for all skin tones.

The way the app shaped my thoughts on skincare has been insane. I’m still willing to forget this and call it a joke if y’all are! 😭 Anyways thank you again and hopefully we can stay in touch 🙏🏾
DISAPPOINTED BY THESE 100% NATURAL PRODUCTS 😩
I was so excited to try these out because I love moisturizers & I am always in search of a good one! These looked & sounded very promising! They’re from a woman owned company, completely natural, vegan, & cruelty free! However, I was quite disappointed. EARTH HARBOR - MERMAID MILK Nutrient Glow Moisturizer This moisturizer claims to give you a glow right away & it contains spirulina + matcha. I was excited about the matcha because it has so many amazing benefits for skin. It has a very whipped consistency which I like. However it always contains essential oils that were strong, although not toooo strong for my liking. But I’m really just not a fan of essential oils in my face creams. The moisturizer did make my skin appear a little brighter but the cream just sat on my face. All day long I could touch my face & still feel the cream sitting there! I hate that feeling! It also almost gave me a greasy appearance after a while? Not a fan. EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme This one was absolutely awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It says to use it at night time & the apply it at least 5 minutes before bed so it can absorb on your face & not your pillow. It contains Sea Retinol + other Superherbs which normally make me love a product! But that just wasn’t enough here. First, when I put it on my face my eyes started to actually burn & I felt suffocated from the scent. It was THAT strong. Guys, I’m not being dramatic at all. The smell like attacked me it was crazy! I have never had something like that happen with a face cream! I couldn’t believe how strong the fragrance was. & to top it off, it wasn’t even a pretty smell. My husband described it as smelling like floor cleaner. But I powered through. The longer I had it on, the more “used” to the smell I got. So, I wore it overnight. But then I woke up even more upset with it! I had pilling all over my face. It almost looked like my face was peeling but it wasn’t, it was jus the cream. One thing I cannot stand about a moisturizer is pulling. That’s enough for me to throw it out! It also didn’t really even moisturize my face that well! All in all, I hated this experience. But if you want, you should try them out for yourself, don’t let my experience deter you from trying something new! I however, will be sticking with my Youth To The People Dream Mask & Superfood Whipped Moisturizer! Love those two!! At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
So I recently received the Mimi Co Exfoliating Wand via IG PR. I couldn’t wait to do a full facial and I decided to do it tonight. Order: I purchased a steamer from Amazon for $23 and I’m obsessed with it (DM me for product info). I started with UpCircle - Cleansing Face Balm With Apricot Powder As my oil cleanse to get my sunscreen from today off and any other oils and dirts. INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash This cleanser is perfect for getting dirts and oils from skin as well. It’s not drying and it’s totally worth it! I paired it with a face cleansing scrub brush, I also purchased from Amazon. I love it and I paid around $20 for it as well! It doubles the vibration frequency put out by Foreo. CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask This was the mask I chose for the enzyme properties. This breaks down dirts and oils in pores and dead skin cells. I also steamed my face during this time. Follain - Toning Mist: Balance + Prime This was what I sprayed over my face for the prep for my exfoliating wand. I didn’t have a true medium and I am out of Aloe Vera plants so😭 I then exfoliated with my wand starting at my cheeks and working upward and then to my forehead. I went down and to the sides of my nose. Glow slow! innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion I used the toner to cleanse my skin and get any dirts left over from me exfoliating. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I use this as my hydrating mask. I took the back of my Mimi Co Wand on switched to the Moisturizing Setting. I gently slid upwards my entire face for the last 2 mins only and then wiped the mask off with a damp cloth. earthtoskin - Tea Time Anti Aging Eye Cream This is the most hydrating eye cream I own. I used this with the back of my cleansing brush on the heat setting! Yes it made my eye feel so hydrated and relaxed. fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer This was the final step as a good moisturizer seals in everything! To prevent acne I use the SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil as my last step. I didn’t use an astringent type toner, so I wanted to still treat my skin💚
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
