Especially during the winter months, our lips can become very dry which makes makeup application more difficult and can be pretty painful. Today, we’ll discuss the best routine and product suggestions for keeping your lips plump and healthy, including that for those with extremely dry skin or lips. 1. Exfoliate with a Lip ScrubThe first step is easily achieving a smooth pout is with an exfoliating lip scrub. These are easy to use and feel great, too. The goal of exfoliating is to remove dead or flaky skin and allow for a smooth surface, as well as helping to lighten dark spots on or around the mouth. Products for this are pretty easy to find and typically range from just a couple dollars to around 60 bucks. If you are looking to save, DIY lip scrubs are super easy and inexpensive, too. For a DIY lip scrub: • Choose the base – coconut oil, honey, shea butter, olive oil, or milk • Choose an exfoliant – brown sugar, white sugar, or coffee grounds • Choose extras – cinnamon, lemon juice, strawberry, grapeseed oil • Choose a scent or flavor - peppermint oil, lavender oil, vanilla, etc. There are products on the market that are tried and true, such as the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish Exfoliator. This highly rated product helps to remove dry skin while hydrating and helping uneven skin tone. Customers say that of all the lip scrubs they’ve tried, this one wins hands down. Another exfoliator to try is Stackedskincare’s Hydrating Lip Peel. It is a vegan product made with natural fruit extracts to give your lips the silky smooth feel and hydration they need.

After using a lip scrub, your lips should be left feeling smooth and soft. Remember to never over exfoliate and avoid products that feel painful or irritating. Be sure to use a moisturizer afterward to ensure lasting hydration! 2. Lip MaskThere are quite a few different types of lips masks out there, from 5-minute sheet masks to overnight masks. Depending on the type of mask, you may want to use this before your balm and other products, but sometimes directions advise it to be the last product in the routine. Sephora offers a Sephora Collection Lip Mask that is super inexpensive and only takes 15 minutes to achieve a pretty, hydrated pout. For those with extra dry lips, they also offer the Hydrating Lip Mask.

For a product that lasts much longer and can be easily incorporated into your lip routine, try something like the Laneige Sleeping Mask. This is another tried and trusted product that customers love. After your cleansing and care each night, apply a generous amount of this mask to your lips and expect to wake up with soft and supple lips.More and more types of masks are becoming available to enhance elasticity, reduce fine lines, and keep lips soft and healthy. Masks can also easily be made at home when you’re in desperate need or trying to stay on budget. Whether it’s DIY masks or high-end, stick to ingredients that work for you. Those with very dry or sensitive lips should be extra careful, but hydrating masks with natural ingredients are oftentimes gentle and effective, so give it a shot!3. Oils and Serums Many of us are used to applying a typical lip balm when necessary, but going the extra step to apply an oil or serum can make a huge difference in the hydration and overall health of your lips. There are countless oils that are all natural and incredibly good for your lips, as well as multipurpose serums that work like magic. Coconut oil, lavender oil, and frankincense oil are all great natural oils that will leave your lips feeling moisturized and smooth. ULTA Juice Infused Lip Oil is exactly what you need for your lip routine. As for serums, these are more often more purposeful in tasks such as plumping, adding collagen and nutrients, and brightening. A lot of serums for your skin can be applied to the lips, too, so be sure to take advantage of your products as much as you can! For example, honey and collagen serums can often be applied to the whole face and lips, making for a plump, soft pout. Recommended is ChapStick’s Total Hydration Vitamin Enriched Lip Night Serum. It is inexpensive for the quality and helps to renew and hydrate those luscious lips overnight. Easy-peasy! 4. Balm or Moisturizer with SPF After incorporating whichever cleansers or serums fit your needs, remember to add a moisturizing balm to top off the lip care routine. This step is especially important at the start of the day and in between, because SPF is important for every bit of skin on the body. Affordable options can be found without trying, but some of our favorites include Sun Bum’s Sunscreen Lip Balm with SPF 30 and their Tinted Lip Balm SPF 15. No matter your current routine, adding beneficial lip care can take it that extra mile to give you a kissable pout on top of that glowing skin. With the variety of choices out there, beauty and wellness lovers alike can find exactly what they need. Just remember these quick healthy lip care tips: • Always cleanse/remove makeup before routine • Avoid over exfoliating, which can harm the skin • Avoid irritating products and ingredients • Stay moisturized! • Stay safe and wear SPF!

MYTH BUSTED! MIX THESE INGREDIENTS OR NOT?
MYTH BUSTED! MIX THESE INGREDIENTS OR NOT?
You know what zodiac sign you’re compatible with, but do you know what skincare ingredients in your routine are compatible? Vitamin c + Niacinamide To mix or to not? Hmm YES! Layer these bad boys up in your routine. (Obviously don’t go overboard, but yes apply these both) The beloved and most sought out for serums have an iffy relationship. You can mix these ingredients together, but there is some things out there that state you shouldn’t or that you should do so in caution. Here’s why! Let’s break it down and get to the point. * Vitamin C protects the skin from free radicals and works towards brightening dark spots, scars, and the overall skin tone. This is best used in the morning to protect from free radicals as we go through our day. ALWAYS wear SPF with Vitamin C! Vitamin C will increase sun sensitivity, so please further your protection with SPF. * Niacinamide is an anti-inflammatory that brightens and promotes a more even skin tone, improves skin elasticity and texture! It’s a Holly Grail tbh. On top of all of that it’s also great to fight free radicals damage and pollution. Using Vitamin C + Niacinamide together? Niacinamide is “said” to cancel out all of the good properties of Vitamin C! BUT there are plenty of studies that show there is NO HARM in using these together. These two serums together can be a powerhouse combo We love these ingredients and need to use them in our skin care! You still can! How to use vitamin c and Niacinamide in your routine: use one ingredient in the AM and one in the PM. Try applying Vitamin C in the am (with spf!) and Niacinamide at night. This way you’ll still get both ingredient’s FULL benefits, but without irritation for reactive or sensitive skin. space them out. You need to let each serum absorb into your skin and allow some time in between applying them and they should not be layered right on top of each other. * this is only if you really feel the need to apply both of them* The results: using these can help uneven skin tone, skin elasticity, texture, and dullness of the skin. So if you plan on using these ingredients together, check out my two favorite below and featured in my photo. Fourth Ray - Raydiate Vitamin C Elixir This version of vitamin c is a mix of a serum and a face oil, so you’ll have to shake it up to mix the two together. + this is light in consistency and absorbs nicely into the skin. + not tacky or sticky. + smells great + ACTUALLY WORKS. My favorite one yet! + lasts longer than most vitamin C serums (shelf life) + $16 GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Serum This GM serum is among the best and very affordable. + light weight and absorbs well into the skin + has a sticky texture, but is gone after it absorbs into the skin. + smooths our texture and brightens skin. + 10% Niacinamide + layers well with other serums and skincare. + $6

Specifically, Erin partnered with Encha Organic Matcha...but what you may not know is that multiple studies have shown it can strengthen hair! Do’s & Don’t’s of A Sensitive Skin Routine
Do’s & Don’t’s of A Sensitive Skin Routine
In my opinion, all skin is sensitive- but people with particularly reactive skin have to take extra caution, especially when you have a condition like eczema (hey fam!) and rosacea. Personally, I have combination sensitive skin and eczema, but nowadays my skin is pretty normal. Here’s some tips to follow when building your basic skincare routine... • Don’t: Jump into a ten-step routine. Overwhelming skin with so many products can easily aggravate sensitive skin, while also making it harder to figure out what one is irritating your skin. Take your time. • Do: Iron out the basics! Before introducing serums, make sure to find a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen combination that gently nourishes skin. Avoid exfoliants in these so that they’re a safe fall-back if your skin starts flaring up. My favourite sensitive skin cleansers are HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash and PAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser , as they cleanse without stripping skin of protective oils. My go-to sensitive skin (and all skin) sunscreens are PAULA'S CHOICE - Essential Glow Moisturizer SPF 30 (mineral) and PAULA'S CHOICE - YOUTH-EXTENDING DAILY HYDRATING FLUID SPF 50 (chemical). • Don’t: Use products with fragrance, alcohol, or essential oils. Alcohol is drying and can weaken the skin barrier, your skin’s defense against environmental damage. Fragrance and essential oils not only have a high chance of irritating skin, but also oxidize upon contact with the air, releasing free radicals that break down collagen. Avoid these. • Do: Incorporate antioxidants. Antioxidants battle environmental aggressors, neutralize free radicals, soothe skin, and calm redness. These and a good sunscreen are going to be your best combination for calm, youthful skin! I utilize a couple drops of The Ordinary - Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% on mornings I forgo vitamin c, but I also enjoy the silky texture of PAULA'S CHOICE - Retinol Super Antioxidant Serum for a gentle, moisturizing retinol that is also loaded with antioxidants. • Don’t: Try to smother skin into submission. Piling on layers of the heaviest cream may provide temporary relief, but it can lead to congestion and acne, which will only inflame skin more in the long-term. • Do: Combine fatty acids, ceramides, peptides, and/or hyaluronic acid treatments to repair the skin barrier, promoting moisture retainment in multiple levels. Layering different types of hydration/moisture from thinnest to thickest is better for your skin and will promote healing the root cause versus treating the symptoms. I love combining PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist Anti-Ageing Omega+ Complex Serum and NIOD - Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex underneath my moisturizer to hydrate + nourish my skin and reduce frequency of my eczema flare-ups.
5 Reasons Why I Love TO’s Niacinamide Serum
5 Reasons Why I Love TO’s Niacinamide Serum
I first heard about The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum when I was searching for brightening serums last year. While my combination skin rarely ever breaks out, I do have some dark marks left over from the occasional pimples that I would like to disappear, or at least, improve in appearance. So I ordered TO’s Niacinamide Serum, crossing my fingers and hoping that it’s actually effective. It’s been almost a whole year later and I’m already on my third bottle of this serum. I have to say, I love it more and more as time goes by! Here are the 5 reasons why. 1. It lightens up my dark spots. It’s not a very dramatic change, mind you, but it does lighten my dark spots quite noticeably. I guess I’ll have to use a few more bottles of this serum if I want to completely lighten them. 2. It smoothens my skin’s texture. I can't believe just how nice it is to glide your fingers over your skin and not feel any bumps! 3. It provides much-needed moisture. My skin never feels dry when I have this serum on. I think it’s successful in locking in the moisture from my essence, too. 4. It doesn’t make my skin oily. Even though it moisturizes my skin, it doesn’t make my face look oily or greasy. This is very important to me because I really like keeping my face matte. 5. It makes me look fresh in the morning. Who doesn’t like seeing that healthy glow on their face when they wake up in the morning? Definitely not me! Can you guess what my overall rating is? 💋💋💋💋💋 5 out of 5 kisses! I really enjoy using this product and I think I’ll keep using it for the future, at least until I find a worthy replacement. Hopefully not, though! If you have some dark spots and you’re having a hard time reducing their appearance, you may want to try out The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum! You can get it for only $5.90 on the Cherie website! The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Have you tried this product before? Loved it, hated it? Let me know in the comments!
My Acne Journey (Long Story)
My Acne Journey (Long Story)
Hi there! My name is Chelle, and like I’m sure many of you have dealt with, I have been in a battle with acne since I was a teenager. It’s been the bane of my existence and a constant thwart to my self-confidence. About 4 years ago, I started using Curology - Curology formula which, at first, worked absolute wonders! They prescribed to me a formula with azelaic acid, and for about 3 years, I felt like I had conquered and controlled my acne issues. Of course, I still had the scars and enlarged pores, but no new breakouts or cysts. I was incredibly satisfied and for once in my life, I had gained some the self-confidence that I never had growing up. I even enjoyed not having to wear as much makeup. However, a couple months before my wedding last year, I started noticing some acne beginning to consistently form in my chin area. I at first attributed to pre-wedding stress (which honestly didn’t make much sense because I actually didn’t do all my wedding planning). But even after the wedding, the breakouts continued to worsen. I reached out to Curology and they switched my prescription to the more aggressive tretinoin. It helped to control it somewhat, but unlike before, new breakouts would surface every week. So with that being said, I’m going back to square one with my acne journey. I’ll using Cherie as a journal to document my successes and failures as I try to, again, get the zits under control. I happily welcome recommendations and feedback! I am by no means a skin or beauty expert, but my hope is that my journey will somewhat encourage another individual that they’re not alone in this battle! Here are the list of products that I am currently using. I’ll do reviews of them as I go!
