Are you feeling wild, light, and natural? Are you ready for crisp, bold lines and daring color? Or are you looking for versatility and freedom? No matter what look you want to achieve, using the right brush is a paramount step in securing and creating your daily look. Picking the right brush, especially as a beauty beginner, can be overwhelming. Sometimes telling the difference between types of brushes can be exhausting (and confusing). A flat eyeshadow brush and crease brush basically look the same even to veterans! Plus, the price tags on brushes skyrocket with a name brand. With all these pitfalls, how is a girl to know which brushes to choose? Cherie is here to help, with our favorite brushes for concealer, blush, foundation, and contouring. Want to know more about makeup brushes, multi-use beauty tools, and beauty beginnings? There are lots of beauty reviews on Cherie, download the app, and find out more. Our Favourite Concealer Brush - EcoTools Ultimate Concealer DuoWhen looking for a concealer brush, you need to account for the concealer you are using. Concealer is, by its nature, thicker than other powders, liquids, or creams. You want it to conceal target spots, and that means more substantial coverage. So your brush needs to distribute concealer seamlessly and needs sturdier bristles to do so- without being rough on the skin. The EcoTools Ultimate Concealer Duo is technically two brushes (so we may have cheated a little), but these concealer brushes work in tandem to deliver a smooth, picture-perfect finish to your face. The first brush is thinner, with thicker bristles to target imperfections and pigmentation. The second brush blends out color deposits to smooth and even out complexion. Plus, EcoTool’s is vegan, environmentally friendly, and made from recycled materials. Our Favourite Blush Brush - Real Techniques Blush Brush This blush brush is a fabulous budget addition to any makeup bag. It’s versatile, works well with creams and powders, and features soft bristles that won’t scratch your face. The taper of the brush allows for precision, and even pigmented blushes will be softened and blended by this excellent blush brush. And when we say versatile, we really mean it. Beauty experts quote using this blush brush to blend foundations across the neck, soften highlighter, even out bronzer, and add finishing powder to completed looks. Talk about a jack of all trades! Our Favourite Foundation Brush - Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush #56
PRO Flawless Airbrush #56, SEPHORA COLLECTION, cherie
SEPHORA COLLECTIONPRO Flawless Airbrush #56
This foundation brush provides excellent cover, next-level blending, and softens any discoloration or foundation deposits leaving you glowing and picture-perfect. Designed to work with liquid, cream, and powder formulas, Sephora’s fabulous foundation brush frees up makeup bag space and is noted for medium-range coverage. The bristles aren’t too dense, allowing you to layer your foundation without looking cakey or over-worked. The hairs are also super fine- meaning even with liquid foundations, you won’t have to deal with that nasty lined look that accompanies non-synthetic bristles. Plus, out of 900 Sephora Reviews, this brush has arisen with a 4.7 rating. It’s not just us who love this airbrush. Our Favourite Contour Brush - EcoTools The Wonder Color Finish Brush We love EcoTools. They’re guilt-free, affordable, high quality, and easy to find in most drug-stores. Plus, Allure names them 2019 Beast of Beauty Award Winner, and beauty influencers tout them as the best budget brushes on the market. This contour brush has tightly packed bristles to deliver Kardashian level precision. The brush is super soft, tapered to deliver defined cheekbones, and features an easy to grip handle made from recycled materials. Our Budget Makeup Brush Set Favourite - EcoTools Start the Day Beautifully Kit This set boasts HUGE value. It’s a simple, catch-all brush set featuring five brilliant brushes that can create a whole range of looks. This makeup brush set includes an angled foundation brush, a blurring brush (excellent for blending and natural looks), a defined crease brush (for some stunningly sharp lids), an angled liner brush (think smokey eyes), and a full blush brush all stored in a chic and slick storage tray.It has everything a beginner may need to create a whole range of iconic looks. Our Bigger Makeup Brush Set Favourite - Tarte Cosmetics Limited Edition Back to School Tools Brush Set Sometimes more is just better. While this set creeps upwards in price, it features 6 of Tarte’s best selling brushes, four of which have double ends. That means you get a total of 10 high-quality brushes that will help you master a plethora of looks. Tarte is vegan-friendly, high quality, and fashionable among celebrity stylists for its beautiful handles and synthetic brush quality. In this set, you get a double-ended eyeshadow brush (for base shadows and blending your crease), powder brush (for powder foundations), a double-ended eyeliner brush (for crisp lines and smudging), a double-ended contour and highlight brush, foundation brush (for liquid foundations), and a double-ended concealer brush. Phew! That’s a lot of range, value, and looks. For those budding beauticians out there, we hope that this brush list is a great starting point for building up your makeup bag. Remember, brushes are not exclusive for any one purpose! Try using your eyebrow brush to create the perfect crease; your concealer brush might be great for blending; the possibilities are endless. Our above list is just a guide- like so many things in makeup; the only limit is your imagination! Want to find the right solution or product for your hair and beauty concerns? $103 vs $29: Can this vintage gem be duped?
$103 vs $29: Can this vintage gem be duped?
ESTĒE LAUDER - Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II VS MISSHA - Time Revolution Night Repair Borabit Ampoule HONEST FEMME FINDS: Estée Lauder’s night serum was the first thing I ever took from my mom’s vanity (apparently similar to how others discovered it) and immediately grew a liking to the formula. The amber bottle never told me what was so great about it but I knew it was something special. After eagerly using up the 30ml in a month, I was excited to repurchase but horrified to find that a 1.7ml bottle would cost $100+. I came to terms with the fact that I just did not have the means to use it daily. At airports, I was that person who waded through the duty free section to use a sample of this serum, leaving my face supple for a red eye flight. I also noticed the patented ingredient, bífida ferment lysate. When I saw recent videos of the many dupes that have come out since Estée Lauder patented the formulation in 2008, I immediately felt compelled to try it. Here are my first impressions. MISSHA - Time Revolution Night Repair Borabit Ampoule IMPRESSIONS: Wow, it’s way larger of a bottle than I expected, looks super luxurious too! The color looks the same (peachy), consistency upon eye-balling looks identical, and even the smell reminds me of the OG. Wow. On the face, it feels slightly oilier/tackier than I remembered Estée Lauder’s to be but overall it feels similar. Softened my skin immediately. The next morning, after using it as my last step, my skin still felt soft and definitely looks brighter in the mirror. I can’t say for long term effects but so far so good! INGREDIENTS: Second ingredient is bífida ferment lysate (a probiotic that has anti-UV damage properties, helps w/ skin barrier), but also in addition Niacinamide, fermented and fruit extracts with anti-aging properties that the original doesn’t have. PRICE: $29 on Amazon prime vs $103 for the original. Imma stop there. REFLECTIONS: When I was wowed by Estée Lauder’s vintage gem, it was years ago, before I truly started my skincare journey. My skin has improved drastically since I incorporated Vit C, HA, AHA and retinol (even SPF!) into my life and I’m wondering if I’ll feel as in awe by bífida ferment lysate as I once did. I guess I will find out if I really NEED this ingredient in my routine. Updates to come! Cheers to ingredients sounding like congenital conditions🥂
wrinkles go away
wrinkles go away
I’m always one to be open to trying new products to see how they can benefit my skin. If it doesn’t work, I simply move onto the next product. If I ever come across something that works extremely well, I’ll add it to my list of must haves and will usually not steer away from that product unless I happen to stumble across a better working product. ESTĒE LAUDER - Advanced Night Repair Limited Edition ESTĒE LAUDER - Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Crème For my skin care routine to keep my skin hydrated, I’ve consistently been using Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night repair and their Revitalizing Supreme+. These two have worked great in keeping my skin hydrated which helps keep my dry skin away and whenever my skin is more hydrated, I look younger. These two also have great anti-aging affects on your skin, and you can really see the difference after a few applications. Your lines and wrinkles start to disappear after a few application, that along with the more hydrated skin really makes your skin feel amazing. The Revitalizing Supreme+ creme is non-acnegenic, so it doesn’t clog my pores and helps me reduce my acne. This works great with the advanced night repair because that serum is oil free. I’ve always had acne prone skin, so using these two has helped my acne and even helped reduce breakouts. I highly recommend these two products if you have acne prone skin, dry skin, or have dehydration. These two products go hand in hand and will work wonders for anyone with similar skin issues as me. Results may not show right away, but constant application will show great results!
The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
Knowing your skin type and skin condition is the first step to treating it. I personally have dehydrated yet oily acne prone skin. The right type of products in a routine can make a huge difference. *Disclaimer: I love all the products above except the Clinique toner (Dont use this please). I will explain below why things are good or bad for acne. Step 1: Cleanse Do - Use gel cleanser like the FARMACY - Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser . The gel formula will deep cleanse the face without stripping. Don’t - Use a cream cleanser like the GEORGETTE KLINGER - Green Tea Cream Cleanser . This is more geared towards dry skin. It will cleanse and hydrate but won’t give you the deep cleanse oily/acne prone skin needs. Step 2: Treat Do - Use a product with salicylic acid like PAULA'S CHOICE - SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA LIQUID EXFOLIANT . Salicylic acid is oil soluble and will dive deep into your pores breaking up any sebum or debris. Don’t - Use something with detnatured alcohol like the CLINIQUE - Clarifying Lotion 3 For Combination Oily Skin . It may feel good at first but the alcohol is stripping your skin and does more harm than good. In the end your face will over compensate for the stripping effect and produce more oil. Step 3: Moisturize Do - Use a gel moisturizer like the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair BarriAIR Cream . I love this because it is free of a lot of skin irritants like fragrance and dyes. The gel formula won’t feel too heavy on the skin but will give you all the hydration benefits you need. Don’t- Use a heavy, cream moisturizer like the Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Moisturizer . Heavy creams are more geared for dry skin. For oily skin it will just sit on top potentially clogging pores (plus I do believe this has some comedogenic ingredients). These are basic steps I’ve been using for a while to make my skin routine the best is can be for my skin concern. If you have any questions about any steps or products let me know below. 🖤 /*some products gifted
My Acne Journey (Long Story)
My Acne Journey (Long Story)
Hi there! My name is Chelle, and like I’m sure many of you have dealt with, I have been in a battle with acne since I was a teenager. It’s been the bane of my existence and a constant thwart to my self-confidence. About 4 years ago, I started using Curology - Curology formula which, at first, worked absolute wonders! They prescribed to me a formula with azelaic acid, and for about 3 years, I felt like I had conquered and controlled my acne issues. Of course, I still had the scars and enlarged pores, but no new breakouts or cysts. I was incredibly satisfied and for once in my life, I had gained some the self-confidence that I never had growing up. I even enjoyed not having to wear as much makeup. However, a couple months before my wedding last year, I started noticing some acne beginning to consistently form in my chin area. I at first attributed to pre-wedding stress (which honestly didn’t make much sense because I actually didn’t do all my wedding planning). But even after the wedding, the breakouts continued to worsen. I reached out to Curology and they switched my prescription to the more aggressive tretinoin. It helped to control it somewhat, but unlike before, new breakouts would surface every week. So with that being said, I’m going back to square one with my acne journey. I’ll using Cherie as a journal to document my successes and failures as I try to, again, get the zits under control. I happily welcome recommendations and feedback! I am by no means a skin or beauty expert, but my hope is that my journey will somewhat encourage another individual that they’re not alone in this battle! Here are the list of products that I am currently using. I’ll do reviews of them as I go! AM Routine: Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser medicube - Zero Pore Pads #Beautycounter - Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream[products]#[FiveStars] Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer 50ml PM Routine Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser Curology - Curology formula God bless! MYTH BUSTED! MIX THESE INGREDIENTS OR NOT?
MYTH BUSTED! MIX THESE INGREDIENTS OR NOT?
You know what zodiac sign you’re compatible with, but do you know what skincare ingredients in your routine are compatible? Vitamin c + Niacinamide To mix or to not? Hmm YES! Layer these bad boys up in your routine. (Obviously don’t go overboard, but yes apply these both) The beloved and most sought out for serums have an iffy relationship. You can mix these ingredients together, but there is some things out there that state you shouldn’t or that you should do so in caution. Here’s why! Let’s break it down and get to the point. * Vitamin C protects the skin from free radicals and works towards brightening dark spots, scars, and the overall skin tone. This is best used in the morning to protect from free radicals as we go through our day. ALWAYS wear SPF with Vitamin C! Vitamin C will increase sun sensitivity, so please further your protection with SPF. * Niacinamide is an anti-inflammatory that brightens and promotes a more even skin tone, improves skin elasticity and texture! It’s a Holly Grail tbh. On top of all of that it’s also great to fight free radicals damage and pollution. Using Vitamin C + Niacinamide together? Niacinamide is “said” to cancel out all of the good properties of Vitamin C! BUT there are plenty of studies that show there is NO HARM in using these together. These two serums together can be a powerhouse combo We love these ingredients and need to use them in our skin care! You still can! How to use vitamin c and Niacinamide in your routine: use one ingredient in the AM and one in the PM. Try applying Vitamin C in the am (with spf!) and Niacinamide at night. This way you’ll still get both ingredient’s FULL benefits, but without irritation for reactive or sensitive skin. space them out. You need to let each serum absorb into your skin and allow some time in between applying them and they should not be layered right on top of each other. * this is only if you really feel the need to apply both of them* The results: using these can help uneven skin tone, skin elasticity, texture, and dullness of the skin. So if you plan on using these ingredients together, check out my two favorite below and featured in my photo. Fourth Ray - Raydiate Vitamin C Elixir This version of vitamin c is a mix of a serum and a face oil, so you’ll have to shake it up to mix the two together. + this is light in consistency and absorbs nicely into the skin. + not tacky or sticky. + smells great + ACTUALLY WORKS. My favorite one yet! + lasts longer than most vitamin C serums (shelf life) + $16 GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Serum This GM serum is among the best and very affordable. + light weight and absorbs well into the skin + has a sticky texture, but is gone after it absorbs into the skin. + smooths our texture and brightens skin. + 10% Niacinamide + layers well with other serums and skincare. + $6
