If you are somewhat invested in skincare, the chances are that you have already heard of Tatcha, the Japanese-inspired luxury skincare brand. The ideology of the brand is centered around geisha culture and their skincare rituals. In a trip to Japan’s cultural capital Kyoto, the San Francisco-based founder Vicky Tsai found her inspiration from the simple yet effective skincare routine of a modern-day geisha. She believed in the power of high-quality natural nutrients is the key to achieve the flawless and luminous geisha skin. Intriguing as it is, the price range of this prestige beauty brand is not accessible for all. Before you make the commitment, let’s take a closer look and see if the purchase makes sense for your skin type and your budget.Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil $75Cleansing oil is one of the most effective yet gentle ways to dissolve the makeups or sunscreens. Japanese Camellia Oil, one of the core ingredients of the product, seals in moistures and nourishes with rich vitamins. The proprietary blend of anti-aging extracts from green tea, rice and algae restore the youthful radiance of the skin. The fragrance-free formula thoroughly removes impurities and is extra gentle to the skin. The emulsification process, however, was not as effective as we would love since it took a bit of working when removing waterproof products, you’re your mascara or heavy makeups generally. If what you need is a simple and natural daily cleanser for removing regular day-to-day makeup, you might want to keep looking: this two-in-one cleansing oil retails at $75.The Rice Polish Classic Foaming Enzyme Powder $65This exfoliating wash is fun to use, that’s for sure: a pinch of the enzyme powder in your palm will be transformed into a creamy foam after adding a few drops of water. The papaya enzyme helps polish your skin and clear the sebum-clogged pores. The physical peeling effect is of course delivered by the earthiness of the finely grounded rice bran. The signature Hadasei-3™ anti-aging superfood blend was added into the enzyme peel for youthful-looking skin. Based on our user opinions, the moisturizing effect really stood out from other similar products. For those who have sensitive skin, you might want to proceed with caution, given that enzymes could irritate your face -- remember the slight burning sensation after eating papayas? For something you would only use once a week (to avoid over-exfoliation) $65 is quite an investment to make for a jar of powder. The Deep Cleanse gel cleanser $38The gel amino acid cleanser produces rich and creamy foam that is ideal for lifting sebum and impurities, and is super gentle on your face. One natural exfoliating product that adds up to the entire luxury experience is the grounded Japanese Luffa fruit, which is the original inspiration for the Luffa sponge. Natural fruit extracts conditions the skin while the Japanese Wild Rose and Leopard Lily essence deeply hydrate when you apply it to your face. For $38, Tatcha sure had brought in luxurious ingredients to a simple gel cleanser, which you can probably find a humble dupe (minus the luxe, of course). The Essence $9598.7% of this essence is filled with tatcha’s signature Hadasei-3™, a concentration of natural nutrients. The fermentation of the extracts produces lactic acid, which deeply nourishes and hydrates the skin and helps improve the uneven skin tone. The softening and smoothing effect of yeast extracts and green tea probably reminded you of the SK-II Essence. Also, tatcha really took the word ‘natural’ to a new level –98%! If you have the budget for a $95 essence, might as well give it a go—or try a travel size firstThe Water Cream $68As the name suggests, this oil-free moisturizer is formulated to deliver optimal hydration and give you the dewy radiance. The water cream contains botanic extracts from Japanese Wild Rose and Leopard Lily, consistent with the brand’s pursuit of natural remedy. The cream sure makes skin feel balanced, but perhaps not the deeply moisturizing effect you are looking for as some might find the gel formula not that easily absorbed. You would assume that a luxury skincare brand like Tatcha would stand clear from all questionable ingredients, but the cream did contain alcohol and metal contents. While having alcohol in skincare is not per se problematic, the skin will likely feel dry or irritated if you have sensitive skin. The gold and tin oxide, on the other hand, didn’t bring much to the table as skincare ingredients, but could potentially trigger discoloration or they simply won’t be absorbed.

TATCHAThe Water CreamWith those being said, the best way to find your perfect match is to try them out. While tatcha’s products are on the pricey side, the good news is that they have trial size products for your skincare experiment. What’s your tatcha experience? Is it worth the hype?
At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
So I recently received the Mimi Co Exfoliating Wand via IG PR. I couldn’t wait to do a full facial and I decided to do it tonight. Order: I purchased a steamer from Amazon for $23 and I’m obsessed with it (DM me for product info). I started with UpCircle - Cleansing Face Balm With Apricot Powder As my oil cleanse to get my sunscreen from today off and any other oils and dirts. INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash This cleanser is perfect for getting dirts and oils from skin as well. It’s not drying and it’s totally worth it! I paired it with a face cleansing scrub brush, I also purchased from Amazon. I love it and I paid around $20 for it as well! It doubles the vibration frequency put out by Foreo. CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask This was the mask I chose for the enzyme properties. This breaks down dirts and oils in pores and dead skin cells. I also steamed my face during this time. Follain - Toning Mist: Balance + Prime This was what I sprayed over my face for the prep for my exfoliating wand. I didn’t have a true medium and I am out of Aloe Vera plants so😭 I then exfoliated with my wand starting at my cheeks and working upward and then to my forehead. I went down and to the sides of my nose. Glow slow! innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion I used the toner to cleanse my skin and get any dirts left over from me exfoliating. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I use this as my hydrating mask. I took the back of my Mimi Co Wand on switched to the Moisturizing Setting. I gently slid upwards my entire face for the last 2 mins only and then wiped the mask off with a damp cloth. earthtoskin - Tea Time Anti Aging Eye Cream This is the most hydrating eye cream I own. I used this with the back of my cleansing brush on the heat setting! Yes it made my eye feel so hydrated and relaxed. fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer This was the final step as a good moisturizer seals in everything! To prevent acne I use the SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil as my last step. I didn’t use an astringent type toner, so I wanted to still treat my skin💚
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.

Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?
DISAPPOINTED BY THESE 100% NATURAL PRODUCTS 😩
I was so excited to try these out because I love moisturizers & I am always in search of a good one! These looked & sounded very promising! They’re from a woman owned company, completely natural, vegan, & cruelty free! However, I was quite disappointed. EARTH HARBOR - MERMAID MILK Nutrient Glow Moisturizer This moisturizer claims to give you a glow right away & it contains spirulina + matcha. I was excited about the matcha because it has so many amazing benefits for skin. It has a very whipped consistency which I like. However it always contains essential oils that were strong, although not toooo strong for my liking. But I’m really just not a fan of essential oils in my face creams. The moisturizer did make my skin appear a little brighter but the cream just sat on my face. All day long I could touch my face & still feel the cream sitting there! I hate that feeling! It also almost gave me a greasy appearance after a while? Not a fan. EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme This one was absolutely awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It says to use it at night time & the apply it at least 5 minutes before bed so it can absorb on your face & not your pillow. It contains Sea Retinol + other Superherbs which normally make me love a product! But that just wasn’t enough here. First, when I put it on my face my eyes started to actually burn & I felt suffocated from the scent. It was THAT strong. Guys, I’m not being dramatic at all. The smell like attacked me it was crazy! I have never had something like that happen with a face cream! I couldn’t believe how strong the fragrance was. & to top it off, it wasn’t even a pretty smell. My husband described it as smelling like floor cleaner. But I powered through. The longer I had it on, the more “used” to the smell I got. So, I wore it overnight. But then I woke up even more upset with it! I had pilling all over my face. It almost looked like my face was peeling but it wasn’t, it was jus the cream. One thing I cannot stand about a moisturizer is pulling. That’s enough for me to throw it out! It also didn’t really even moisturize my face that well! All in all, I hated this experience. But if you want, you should try them out for yourself, don’t let my experience deter you from trying something new! I however, will be sticking with my Youth To The People Dream Mask & Superfood Whipped Moisturizer! Love those two!! My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
