Celebrated in many countries around the world, Lunar New Year is a time to bring in new prosperity and luck for the upcoming year. While the beginning of the year is always a fresh start, this years is especially so because it's the beginning of a new decade, and, the Year of The Rat, which is the first sign of the Chinese Zodiac. To honor this celebration, we're highlighting beauty traditions from countries that celebrate this beautiful holiday. In this post, Cherie team member Amber Watkins shares her experience getting a deeply relaxing Thai massage. Queen Of RelaxationWhen it comes to relaxation, massages have always been the most luxurious and effective on the list of techniques to get there. For those who have never gotten one before, I won’t deny that it feels a little invasive at first to let a stranger roll, pull, and tap the knots out of your body while you lay there almost completely nude. But, once you get past those initial feelings, everything about it feels satisfying—I can attest to that. So, when I decided to experience a Thai massage, a totally different massage than I was used to, I was apprehensive at first. I've never gotten one before, but how I felt after was way worth any initial discomfort. I recommend a Thai massage to anyone who's in need of some major relaxation time, or just curious about the body therapy in general. Read on to find out my experience with it below. But First: A Short HistoryThe Thai massage is an ancient therapy that has been practiced in Thailand for thousands of years—a technique proven of its effectiveness through the test of time. More than 2,500 years ago, a man by the name of Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha (a close friend of Gautama Buddha!) developed the practice to aid in lowering stress, lymphatic drainage, and pain reduction. Fast forward to the present day, and you can find an authentic practice pretty much anywhere in major cities.

Why a Thai Massage? The health benefits of this specific technique sets it apart from other body therapies. The list is long and impressive: aids in lowering stress, boots energy, relieves headaches, stimulates circulation, improves range of motion, reduces back pains, calms the nervous system, and stimulates lymphatic drainage. The best one, though? Feeling luxurious and worth it AF because SELF CARE.My ExperienceThe moment I walked into the building I was kindly greeted by a Thai woman working the front counter (I love friendly service!). I was asked my name and instructed to choose from the long list of massages offered: eternity deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, Thai massage, aromatherapy massage, prenatal massage, four hand massage, and combination massage (it’s safe to say this place is a pro at relaxation). I chose a traditional Thai and was led into a room decorated with cultural and religious photos. Then, the woman instructed me to take off all my clothes besides my underwear. I then laid on the table and waited for no more than 3 minutes before the journey of relaxation began. The woman asked for my permission and comfort level every step (pun intended) of the way, beginning with slow steps on my calves, moving down to my butt. Once she moved to my back? Game over. Fireworks of released tension ensued—you could hear the crack of my back with each step and it felt like months of built-up stress was now gone. Each press of her heel felt AMAZING. Once she was done with the dry tissue massage, she moved onto the oils. The oil she used had a soothing menthol scent that seemed to figuratively and literally clear my senses of all toxins. She then mixed it with a thick lotion and rubbed it into my back and lower body. For her final trick, she had me sit up, arms crossed and behind my back so that she could stretch me out and release all the remaining tension my body was holding on too. I was flabbergasted by her strength and thoroughness.

The Result?I felt free! My breathing improved and I felt more relaxed than ever before. Once I got home, I fell into the deepest of sleeps—if that doesn’t show you the level of relaxed I was, I don’t know what will. If you’re looking for an experience that not only brings insight to a beautiful, cultural tradition but also a level of relaxation that DREAMY, getting a Thai massage is your answer.

NIACINAMIDE explained! $6 serums worth trying!
Try these $6 serums to reap the many benefits of niacinamide! Hey everyone! I’m sure you’ve heard and seen so much about 𝙉𝙄𝘼𝘾𝙄𝙉𝘼𝙈𝙄𝘿𝙀 lately. It seems like every new skincare product has it and the niacinamide serums are selling like crazy. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐞? Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3. It’s the latest trend in skincare, but has been used in skincare for a very long time. It has many benefits from helping acne, repairing skin, smoothing fine lines.. the list goes on. You can find it as it’s own serum or as a main ingredient along with other powerhouse ingredients. 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 locks in moisture; helps build a lipid barrier. prevents environmental damage + protects from environmental stressors and pollution. minimizes pores reduces inflammation; helps redness w/ acne and eczema. regulates oil production. rebuilds skin cells protects against sun damage & skin cancer. ( you still need SPF) helps hyperpigmentation (not to a vitamin c extent, but can help lighten spots a bit) minimizes fine lines and wrinkles *yes plz* helps acne! Overtime a decrease in breakouts. 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙣: I have incorporated Niacinamide into my skincare routine for the last 3 months and I have noticed + a decrease in breakouts. + less oily skin + huge change in my pores, way less visible around my nose and cheeks. + less eczema than usual for this time of the year for me. 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙩? For the most part, yes... Some people do have a sensitivity to niacinamide and can break out from it. If you start to break out different than your normal while using it, I suggest taking it out of your routine to see if it is not a match for your skin. 𝘼𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙉𝙞𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙪𝙢𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙧𝙮: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Since I’ve switched to this “holy grail” my skin has drastically improved. It also includes Zinc which helps with acne as well. $5.90 a price that is TOO good. Sold at Ulta and Sephora. GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Serum Another great serum! I’ve used this one before and it works almost just as well as the ordinary. It is also %10 niacinamide. The brand also has an amazing niacinamide toner! $6 online at good molecules. Both of these serums are 10% niacinamide. Studies have shown that 2-5% works very effectively so you don’t need such a high percentage. #cheriepartner #cheriecreator

🚨 Natasha Denona Glam DUPE! //$65 vs. $14
🚨 Natasha Denona Glam DUPE! //$65 vs. $14
Happy Saturday Cherie Sisters 👯‍♀️ 💕 I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. I have been loving cool toned eyeshadows lately. I think they are the perfect tones to wear during fall and winter time so I purchased my first Natasha Denona product and got the glam palette. I fell in love with the color story and can see myself reaching for this palette often. So far the eyeshadows feel so luxurious. They are pigmented and I can do a look with just one dip. They blend themselves too so doing a look isn’t too time consuming. NATASHA DENONA - Glam Eyeshadow Palette When I saw that Colourpop announced their That’s Taupe collection, I knew I had to get the eye palette because it looked very similar to my glam palette. I wanted to do a comparison so you guys can decide if you need to spend $65 for the Natasha Denona one. So far these are up to par with Colourpop quality. The eyeshadows are pigmented and they included a couple super shock formula on the palette. These are great quality for the price. #Colourpop - That’s Taupe[products]#[FiveStars] So the Colourpop palette isn’t a complete dupe to the ND one, but there are some shades that are really similar to each other. Once blended on the eye, you can hardly tell the difference. The only difference between the two is the quality. The ND palette was pigmented after one dip and blended quickly. I had to dip 3-4x in the CP pan to match the pigmentation for the ND one. It also took time blending it out. Overall, the end results are the same, but it took half the time to work with the ND palette because it was much easier to work with. If cool-toned eyeshadows aren’t you your alley, but still want it on your collection, I say stick with CP. also if you don’t mind spending the extra time building up the color and blending then save the $51 difference. If you are someone who is looking for quality then definitely go for the glam palette. This will save you time and you won’t use as much product because it’s so pigmented. Do you prefer cool tones or warm tones? Xoxo, Francesca 💋
💁🏻‍♀️My Go-To “Extra” Makeup Look 💁🏻‍♀️
💁🏻‍♀️My Go-To “Extra” Makeup Look 💁🏻‍♀️
Alright so a lot of people may have an everyday makeup look, but do you have an everyday EXTRA makeup look??? Well, here’s mine… It’s the perfect mix between glamorous and natural which I loveeee. I also think it’s a pretty achievable look and there aren’t too many crazy techniques you need to use in order to get it either. So I’ll start with the eyes, it’s just the foxy smokey look that’s been trending all over social media. I use tons of neutral and brown colors to achieve a more natural and smokey effect. The important thing is to build up the dark browns and black eyeshadow. For the fox eye effect, I like to use a piece of tape to get it really sharp. The trick is to always start with the lighter colors and blend up to the black. Also, line your waterline and inner corner with a black pencil to make it look even smokier. Next up, we got the lips. It’s the staple red lipstick but with a dark twist. I personally don’t think bright red lipstick complements my skin tone so I love adding a bit of brown. I use NYX soft matte lip creams to achieve this and the main lippie colors are “Madrid” and “Berlin”. You can add a lip gloss if you prefer, honestly, any clear gloss works. I like using Too Faced Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss for that pounty look hehe Last but not least, the freckles!!! This is a small element that ties everything together. It’s what makes it look a lot more natural and effortless. Don’t forget to also use some blush to make your freckles look more realistic, but my method for drawing freckles is with brown eyeshadow powder on a brush. And that’s pretty much all to it! Looks kinda complicated but actually pretty simple and great for any occasions you want to look a bit more extra for!! #CheriePartner
