Celebrated in many countries around the world, Lunar New Year is a time to bring in new prosperity and luck for the upcoming year. While the beginning of the year is always a fresh start, this years is especially so because it's the beginning of a new decade, and, the Year of The Rat, which is the first sign of the Chinese Zodiac. To honor this celebration, we're highlighting beauty traditions from countries that celebrate this beautiful holiday. In this post, Cherie team member Ann Buenaobra shares her experience with traditional Chinese medicine.Born This WayI've had eczema since I was a baby, and I remember going to the doctor's being met with every solution possible—from soaking my skin in milk to various prescription ointments, every solution was a temporary fix for my symptoms, but nothing ever had long-lasting benefits. As I grew older, another skin woe entered my life; acne 😭. I was a teenager with acne-prone skin and eczema, and let me tell you, this was no winning combo for my self esteem. My thing was, my eczema would pop up around my face, so combined with acne, my face felt like one big red zone. As I grew older, the right skincare routine, plenty of water, and a good diet helped a lot (read: SOOO MUCH) with both my acne and eczema, but I wanted a remedy that would take my acne and eczema from mild and year-round to light and rarely occurring. A Sharp RemedyWhile looking for an acne and eczema remedy with longevity, I knew it had to be something that was more than topical. After having seen dermatologists and estheticians alike for years and only getting surface treatments, I was willing to try something new—my only criteria being that it MUST be a natural remedy. Enter acupuncture. I had a friend who was doing it for their allergies and after 6 months of weekly treatments, no longer sneezed around dogs or fields of grass. I thought this was amazing because they tell you allergies are for life, and the only treatment is when they already occur, not before. So I did my research and took the leap to try this ancient practice.

Acupuncture: The BasicsAcupuncture is a key component in traditional Chinese medicine. The practice is based on balancing the life force within each human being, also known as Qi. Qi is believed to flow through meridians, or pathways, throughout your body, and when we meet an ailment it's because of an imbalance in our qi or a stagnant energy. Acupuncture places needles as thin as a strand of hair at strategic points to release stagnant qi along your body's meridians. In China, acupuncture is so widely practiced that even during surgery, patients have been known to opt for an acupuncturist in place of an anesthesiologist. Metaphysically, this made sense to me. If my acne and eczema are due to stagnant energy around, say, my stomach, and placing fine needles at certain points would release that energy, then it was worth a shot! A Zen Like No Other: My ExperienceWhen meeting with my practitioner to determine my course of treatment, they really took into consideration everything about me. We talked about my habits—everything from my sleep patterns, daily activities, and even how many times I use the bathroom. We discussed my dreams, my worries, and any main points of stress. They also take your temperature, check your pulse, and read your tongue. All these components tell a story about your body. In my case, my red-tipped tongue indicated heat in my heart—basically, my heart was being overworked which meant that the rest of my organs were overcompensating to cool it down. The stress of this was showing up as mild acne and eczema. The cause of my overworked heart? Emotional stress! I guess your emotions can really get the best of you!

Once my practitioner decided on a treatment for me, I laid on a bed (like the ones at a doctors office) and they began to insert the needles. Now, these needles are super thin and they don't pierce your skin; they just sit right at the top. They don't hurt at all, but on occasion an acupuncture needle does stimulate a nerve and THAT feeling is something else. Once all my needles were in (usually they just put in 12 or so) they leave you in the room, turn off the lights, and set some heat lamps at your feet and torso. Then, it's time for my beloved acunap. There's a sense of calm that takes over me once all the acupuncture needles are in place. I immediately fall into a trance and take what I like to call an acunap. Different from a regular nap, an acunap feels meditative and incredibly relaxing. My entire body becomes still and I doze off into another world. Right at the end of 25 minutes, the practitioner comes in and I come awake from my trance. After the first treatment, I saw no difference, but felt amazing and relaxed from my acunap. After about 4 months of weekly treatments, my skin experienced less breakouts for both acne and eczema. I used to get eczema on my neck on a weekly basis, and after my 4 months of acupuncture, I haven't had it since. My acne breakouts are now only monthly and hormonal; just a small pimple on the chin versus a cluster of acne along my cheek. Tips & Tricks - Come with an open mind, and be very honest with your practitioner about your health and goals. Your goals will help them determine the best places your energy needs releasing! - Look for acupuncture schools with a clinic. It's super affordable, usually $35-50. You can get treated by a student being supervised by a licensed practitioner, or a licensed practitioner themselves, which will be a tad bit pricer. They also have traditional herbs that they may prescribe to you should you want to extend the benefits of your treatment!

Anti-pollution skincare & why you need it!
Anti-pollution skincare & why you need it!
Did you know pollution can be silently and progressively deteriorating your complexion? Exposure to environmental stressors such as free radicals, UV/UVB exposure, different fumes and emissions could be wrecking your skin. Heck, even emissions from paint and carpeting inside your own home are potentially damaging your skin, causing inflammation, fine lines, dull skin and premature aging. More and more research shows that environmental factors could be stronger determinants of our overall health than our very own genes. And unless you’re moving to a secluded forest with cleaner air, maybe you should start considering anti-pollution skincare! Dr. Loretta took all these factors into account when creating her own line of skincare, so all of her products claim to protect skin from oxygen AND nitrogen free radical damage. Dullness and dehydration are possibly my major skin concerns, I’ve struggled with dehydrated skin for years, and if I’m not diligent with my skincare I know for sure my skin will be looking dull and crusty in just a few hours. 🧴 Dr Loretta - Intense Replenishing Serum Living in a super dry city I need to have a serum to keep me hydrated, but isn’t too heavy that will make my combo skin feel oily or break me out. This serum has a very interesting consistency, it’s light but feels like a serum/oil hybrid. Besides from protecting skin against free radicals it’s also made with vitamin F to maintain a healthy skin barrier and prevent water loss. 🧴 Dr. Loretta - Tightening Eye Gel I have a hard time finding eye cream that works well for me, most eye creams I’ve tried gave me milia which is so annoying. Having an eye gel has been amazing for me, being a gel I know for sure it won’t give me milia but I’m still treating my under eyes. I haven’t been using that long to speak on long-term effects but I’m liking it so far. It works great to depuff! At $60 for 20 ml it’s a pricey one, but you really only need like half a pump and that’s enough for both eyes. 🧴 Dr. Loretta - Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 40 This is such a nice SPF in my opinion. Not only does it offer UVA/UVB protection, it also protects against HEV light emitted from the sun and electronic devices and of course, pollution. It has a slight peachy tint so it looks good on its own, and gives off a nice satin finish, not too dewy or too matte. One thing I have to note on this product is I have to take a few extra minutes for application, it’s best to pat it in rather than aggressively rubbing it on, which I wouldn’t recommend either way 😜 normally I wouldn’t bother but I love how it looks on me, and it was $50 so I will make it work lol Have you tried any anti-pollution formulas? Would you give these a try? ☺️ #CheriePartner
☀️Sience says Tinted Sunscreens do it best☀️
☀️Sience says Tinted Sunscreens do it best☀️
Hello beautiful skin + beauty lovers 😊 I love spfs because they are so important to the health of our skin and our whole body☀️ I was excited to try the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF 30 because it’s a tinted sunscreen. Regular sunscreen blocks UV rays so that’s still awesome, But visible light is not blocked in this capacity. Visible light has been proven to cause damage to skin just like UV rays. non-tinted sunscreens are formulated to be invisible on skin, and therefore cannot block visible light. Tinted sunscreens are awesome because the added color base in the product is beneficial to blocking visible light because the color remains on your skin, creating yet another layer of protection between your beautiful skin and the sun. Here’s how it works, according to Neera Nathan MD and Dieter Manstein MD for Harvard Publising, “Tinted sunscreens combine broad-spectrum mineral UV filters, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, with added pigments — pigmentary titanium dioxides and iron oxides — that create the visible, skin-tone color that can reflect away visible light. The colored base of tinted sunscreens is created by mixing different amounts of black, red, and yellow iron oxides with pigmentary titanium dioxide, resulting in a tinted sunscreen that can be matched to any skin tone.” Boom! That’s how it’s done. Who wouldn’t want that extra protection without white cast?! How does FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral SPF 30 perform? The only issue I have with this is when rubbing it in, it feels grainy and gritty like sand or something. It disappears once all the way rubbed in, but it kind of weirded me out 😛 I was reading a bunch of reviews and some people claimed to feel this as well. I think mine might have been old or something. It is not bothersome enough for me to not want to try it again. I will still use & probably repurchase this. The finish on this product is amazing. I really like it for my combination skin. Once soaked into the skin, this sunscreen became invisible and left a soft sheen/dewiness on my pale skin. It made my skin really soft, too. I would also like to point out there for me the sunscreen didn’t really do much in terms of blurring imperfections on my face. I honestly couldn’t really tell that I had anything on after it was all the way rubbed in, except for a light glow it gave my skin. So if you’re looking for a tinted sunscreen with more coverage I would probably recommend looking at a different product. I also like the ingredients in this, squalane being one of the first few ingredients, working to moisturize and nourish my skin. Do you guys like tinted sunscreen? What kinds do you wear?
Get rid of dry patches instantly -Peeling gels
Get rid of dry patches instantly -Peeling gels
Do you get large or small dry flakey patches because of either colder weather or retinoids or acne treatments? I do get these dry flakey patches all the time with my retinoid use and sometimes when the air gets dry around me. But that isn't the main concern for me, these dry patches come in my way of getting a good flawless foundation routine. When I have an event or meeting to attend and if I have these dry patches it's hard for me to moisturize them and keep them moisturized and look good under my makeup. There was only one solution to such dry fkakey skin, that is Exfoliation!! I figured the quick exfoliating masks and solutions (chemical exfoliation) work but they did not get rid of those dry patches completely. So I tried these peeling gels before my morning shower and vola!! They instantly removed my dry patches and made my skin super soft and smooth for a flawless makeup application!! 😍❤️ I love using these both, @wishful Yo Glow enzyme scrub HUDA BEAUTY - Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub @saturdayskin Rub-A-Dub Refining peel gel SATURDAY SKIN - Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel ✨ These both are refining physical exfoliators that work by creating white balled up action and pills when you rub it gently on your skin. They generally have chemical exfoliants as well like Papaya and pineapple enzymes as well as physical exfoliators. The lightweight, milky texture gently buffs away dead skin cells and impurities for immediate results that also makes the perfect canvas for seamless makeup application. You start off with a watery gel like this, which you spread over your face then you see the product balling up on your face creating this weird peeled skin texture. ✨But have you Wondered what is it exactly?? Is it your skin falling off or peeling that way? Is it just the product that's balling up and not exfoliate skin well? or is it just a gimmick?? The Answer is: peeling gels are actually a very gentle physical scrub – the scrubbing bits are the soft, bunched up fibres, which are usually made of bunched up acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer* (sometimes listed as “carbomer” in the ingredients list). Some gels also contain a lot of cellulose, which adds to the bunching effect (this is usually in the opaque ones) ☑️😍Conclusion: Peeling gels aren’t chemical exfoliants – they’re gentle physical exfoliants (scrubs). The fibres form from ingredients that are in the gel to begin with, balling up from the rubbing motion with some help from oils on your skin. There will be a small amount of dead skin in there too. I am a fan of Peeling gels, they definitely help me a lot with instant exfoliation without being crazy abrasive on my skin. This is the evidence I like physical exfoliants as much as I love chemical ones. 😊❤️ Have you used Peeling gels? Do you like them? Share your thoughts ❤️

Alleyoop (formerly Sphynx) makes super affordable products with cute packaging! The alleyoop - All-In-One Portable Razor is $15 on their website and you only have to buy it once and just refill the razors and shave bar. The refill packs are $9. They no longer have the black color in my video and have made some product enhancements. The razor now comes in pink and navy. The new blade has 3 razors instead of one and has a moisturizer strip on it. The razor also now can pivot for a closer shave! Pre-shave moisturizing bar is made with: - chamomile - Olive oil - Shea butter - Cocoa butter - Coconut oil The bar activates with water and leaves skin feeling soft after your shave!! $15 well spent! #CheriePartner
