It’s not just unsightly – it can also be painful and irritating. But there’s no need to splurge all your money on a one-way ticket to a sunny paradise – you can regain smooth, supple skin from your own bathroom by using a body scrub. However, there’s a plethora of products to choose from, with a wide price range and various different formulas, so making the final decision can be tricky. In this article, we list our pick of the top five body scrubs available on the market today, including those for sensitive skin. Why Exfoliate Your Body Using a Scrub? The global beauty industry is colossal, estimated by Business Insider in July 2019 to be worth a staggering US$532 billion in total. For years, people have been willing to invest heavily in products that improve the overall general health and appearance of their skin; specifically, their facial skin, for obvious aesthetic reasons. However, facial skin only accounts for approximately 10% of the entire epidermis – and the remaining 90% below the neck tends to be overlooked. As we naturally lose roughly 50 million skin cells per day due to biological regeneration processes, the skin on the body can easily become dull, dry, and flaky when it’s neglected, so it’s important to give it appropriate care as necessary. This is where a body scrub comes in: a mix of ingredients designed to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells, thereby encouraging regeneration and an overall improved appearance and texture. A body scrub will also prime the skin to be ready to absorb other products applied afterward, such as moisturizers, which also contribute to healthy skin. From coffee scrubs to sugar scrubs, our cherie users have had their say on their favorites – read on to find out more. Majestic Pure Arabica Coffee ScrubPriced at just US$15 for 10 oz of product, this coffee-based body scrub is fantastic value – and the blend of ingredients included in the formula is likely to be effective for its intended uses: general exfoliation of the skin and specific treatment of cellulite and stretch marks, spider veins, acne, age spots, and eczema. These all respond to the caffeine found in the Arabica coffee beans, which is known to help stimulate blood flow in the skin. Additionally, the oils found in the formula – including coconut oil, organic olive oil, and organic grape seed oil – work with shea butter and cocoa butter to nourish, moisturize, and protect the skin. However, as skin sensitivity is possible with this product, it’s important to test it on a small patch before using all over the body. Tree Hut Shea Sugar ScrubCosting only US$20 on Amazon for three 18 oz containers of product, this Shea Sugar Scrub is excellent value – and it has over 1,000 5-star reviews, with a 4.6/5 overall rating, so it’s clearly a much-loved, popular product. Not only does it effectively exfoliate the skin, but the mix of skin-enhancing oils, such as safflower seed oil, sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil, avocado oil, orange oil, and macadamia seed oil, helps to moisturize and nourish the skin while restoring elasticity. There are no parabens or artificial ingredients contained in this product – plus, there are 18 different scents to choose from in total, so there should be something for everyone. Fresh Brown Sugar Body PolishThis is a fantastic natural, sugar-based body scrub that contains a well-thought-out blend of ingredients that are all geared toward its intended use. Brown sugar crystals not only remove dead skin cells but also help to prevent moisture loss, while the blend of evening primrose, sweet almond, apricot kernel, and jojoba oils moisturizes and nourishes the skin. Lastly, ginseng root extract and peppermint invigorate the senses and revitalize skin cells, while citrus oil helps to brighten and tone the skin. Priced at slightly more than $50 for 7 oz, it’s pretty expensive, but as a result of the superior ingredients list, this is one of our favorite body scrubs on the market.Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Smoothing Body SandThe Sand & Sky botanical skincare brand has recently risen in popularity due to its huge social media marketing drive – those who have Instagram are unlikely to have missed it. The “magic” ingredient in all its products is Australian pink clay, which is advertised as a magnet for toxins that gently but deeply cleanses the skin by helping to draw out impurities. The Smoothing Body Sand is one of the brand’s newest products, also containing coconut and macadamia shells to exfoliate and virgin macadamia oil to moisturize. Priced on Amazon at just under US$35 for 6.4 oz of product, it’s fairly expensive, but the popularity and success of the overall brand, as well as an overwhelmingly positive response by customers to previous products, suggest that this well-thought-out formula works well as a body scrub. However, although not advertised on the packaging, some of the Amazon reviews state that it makes the skin slightly shimmery, which isn’t for everyone.Herbivore Botanicals – All Natural Coco Rose Body PolishHerbivore Botanicals has used an excellent blend of virgin coconut oil and Moroccan rose in its all-natural fine-powder body scrub that exfoliates the skin without being abrasive, leaving it feeling smooth and moisturized. The formula is free from artificial ingredients, fillers, parabens, alcohol, animal ingredients, fragrances, sulfates, artificial colors, and unnatural preservatives, which means it should be suitable for sensitive skin. Costing US$36 for an 8 oz glass container of product, it’s fairly expensive compared with some of the other body scrubs on this list – but it’s a popular product, and the attractive packaging means it will look great in your bathroom too. Now Get Scrubbing! So, there you have it – the best body scrubs that the beauty industry has to offer. With a relatively wide price range and a variety of ingredients included in the formulas, there should be something for everyone, including those with sensitivities. Your skin will be feeling smooth, silky, and rejuvenated in no time at all – happy scrubbing!

To shave, or not to shave?
To shave, or not to shave?
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the question, “Will my hair grow back thicker?” When discussing shaving ones face, or even just body hair in general, so I decided to make this post. Just a little preamble here.. I myself have facial hair. No, I do not have PCOS, I’m just a hairy lady 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I’ve learned how to accept it over the years because trust me when I tell you it was a self-esteem battle! I’ve tried every single hair removal product and method out there, and I always go back to what’s tried and true; shaving. But more importantly, I’ve done lots of research and spoken to my dermatologist about this myth as well, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a pile of 💩 With a little help from Dr. Kristeen Cherney who wrote, Shaving Does Not Affect the Thickness or Rate of Hair Growth for Healthline, I’d like to break down some myths. MYTH #1: hair will grow differently when shaved and even be more coarse So this is actually half true and here’s why. As Dr. Cherney puts it, “Unshaven hair has a finer, blunter tip,” so when your hair grows back from shaving, you’ll end up seeing the coarser base as opposed to the “softer, thinner part that will eventually grow back,” if, of course, you let it! MYTH #2: hair grows back darker The new hair may be more thick, but it’s not because of shaving. Remember, this hair hasn’t yet been exposed to the elements or soaps or even chemicals that we use on the daily, which if you didn’t know, actually lightens the hair. MYTH #3 (the best for last): hair will grow back thicker when shaved, especially on the face Let’s break down how our hair grows so you can get a better understanding of why this statement is false. According to Dr. Cherney, “It takes about 1 month for body hair to reach its full length. This is why body hair is more shorter than the hair on our heads.” If you look at the image above, you can get a better understanding of the hair follicle, which is where our hair starts. One photo shows a blade ready to glide over top of the dead hair on the surface of the skin and the second photo shows what it looks like after. As you can see, all shaving did was, and for a lack of a better word, trim the hair! It didn’t actually get rid of the entire hair from the hair follicle. So to conclude with the words of Dr. Cherney, “Since shaving doesn’t remove hair under the skin like other hair removal methods do, it’s impossible for you to affect its colour, thickness or rate of growth.” There ya have it. So it’s safe to say, go ahead and shave! Don’t let a silly myth stop you. Just make sure you do it properly so that you don’t damage that beautiful skin 😌
RENTINOIDs: the BEST super ingredient
RENTINOIDs: the BEST super ingredient
🌸 note: two of the products in my picture are prescription only, high grade retinoids. but i have tagged their drug store dupes that are the SAME product with a lower concentration 🌸 WHAT IS A RETINOL? in the most basic form, a retinoid is a form of VITAMIN A which encourages skin cells to break down and turn over faster, resulting in reduction of acne, wrinkles, dark spots and signs of aging. It promotes collagen production, unclogs pores, and reduces scarring. its actually thickens skin, preventing wrinkles from forming ☀️☀️ALWAYS USE AN SPF WITH RETINOIDS☀️☀️ because your skin cells are dying and regenerating so quickly, you are much more prone to sunburns. And we know sunburns are literally life-threatening they vary HIGHLY in strength (weak to strong list) - retinoid esters: The weakest version of a retinoid, but is good for sensitive skin, surface level retinol: found in a variety of products, works on the cellular level of skin - adapalene (differin): Used to be prescription only but can now be found in a low-dose age in most drug stores. penetrates deeper and slows the production of sebum with faster cell turnover - retinoic acid (Retin-A/tretinoin): works deeper in the skin, can produce overnight results in the form of dead skin peeling. Very advanced skin cell turnover, as it penetrates and stimulates cell death and production. Skin can become very sensitive, irritated , and red - isotretinoin (Accutane): essentially sebum production is very limited and skin cell turnover is dramatically increased. on ingestible medication that will make your skin peel, dry out, and really kill acne. It’s prescription only but very effective. 🌸 products i use! prescription only: ADAPALENE 0.3% dupe: DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel ADAPALENE is the primary form of retinol in this product. this has been my go to product for years, it makes me less sun sensitive then Retin-A 0.05%, while still giving me excellent skin cell turnover and anti aging benefits. It helped my skin go from absolute shiz to a much cleaner glowing face (see 4th pic) prescription only: RETIN-A 0.05% dupe: janssen - Retino-A 0.05% Tretinoin Cream TRETENOIN is the primary form of retinoid in this product. these two may actually be the same product, but the one that I have I know is usually prescription grade. it will make your skin peel overnight, so I use it as a spot treatment if I get any deep set nodular acne. i used this for a couple years but it made me really sun sensitive, it is very strong! luxury brand: SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum RETINOL ESTER and CoQ10 are the primary forms of retinal in this product. this claims to have a 6.5% blend of stabilize retinoids and botanical retinoid alternative extracts. I think that it is incredibly overpriced for what it is. There are very similar dupes such as those from the inkey list and the ordinary
🚨 Natasha Denona Glam DUPE! //$65 vs. $14
🚨 Natasha Denona Glam DUPE! //$65 vs. $14
Happy Saturday Cherie Sisters 👯‍♀️ 💕 I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. I have been loving cool toned eyeshadows lately. I think they are the perfect tones to wear during fall and winter time so I purchased my first Natasha Denona product and got the glam palette. I fell in love with the color story and can see myself reaching for this palette often. So far the eyeshadows feel so luxurious. They are pigmented and I can do a look with just one dip. They blend themselves too so doing a look isn’t too time consuming. NATASHA DENONA - Glam Eyeshadow Palette When I saw that Colourpop announced their That’s Taupe collection, I knew I had to get the eye palette because it looked very similar to my glam palette. I wanted to do a comparison so you guys can decide if you need to spend $65 for the Natasha Denona one. So far these are up to par with Colourpop quality. The eyeshadows are pigmented and they included a couple super shock formula on the palette. These are great quality for the price. #Colourpop - That’s Taupe[products]#[FiveStars] So the Colourpop palette isn’t a complete dupe to the ND one, but there are some shades that are really similar to each other. Once blended on the eye, you can hardly tell the difference. The only difference between the two is the quality. The ND palette was pigmented after one dip and blended quickly. I had to dip 3-4x in the CP pan to match the pigmentation for the ND one. It also took time blending it out. Overall, the end results are the same, but it took half the time to work with the ND palette because it was much easier to work with. If cool-toned eyeshadows aren’t you your alley, but still want it on your collection, I say stick with CP. also if you don’t mind spending the extra time building up the color and blending then save the $51 difference. If you are someone who is looking for quality then definitely go for the glam palette. This will save you time and you won’t use as much product because it’s so pigmented. Do you prefer cool tones or warm tones? Xoxo, Francesca 💋

🍵 green tea works!! for dark circles
🍵 green tea works!! for dark circles
I've had struggles with insomnia since I was a kid. At one point, I accepted my dark circles. But sometimes, making yourself look healthier can make you FEEL better. And that's important. When you lose sleep, your skin gets paler, & your blood vessels dilate. So thin, pale skin + bigger vessels = dark under eyes. The 1st solution is to sleep more. But the 2nd works really well for our off days! 🍃 GREEN TEA TREATMENT 🍃 I was skeptical of this at first. But it WORKS. In the first pic (above), I had gotten 4 hours of sleep. In the after (below) pic, I had done a green tea bag soak. Tutorial : Soak two tea bags in water in your refrigerator. I left mine overnight. Try to use pure green tea. I used the #Twinings - Green Tea[products]#[FiveStars] Take the bags, squeeze excess water, and apply them over your eyes. Leave a little water so it can get snug on your eyes (like a blanket). I put the thick end on my under eye, and fit the top part on my upper lid. Both are important to reduce dark circles. Remove after 15 minutes. And that's it! Your eyes will look less red, and you'll feel more awake. I know the process is long- so it's not ideal for when you're in a rush. But it's also very anti-anxiety. My facial muscles felt relaxes, and the redness was 75% gone. My skin felt tighter (in a good way) for a few hours. 🍂TESTING ANOTHER METHOD🍂 I wanted to try a quick under eye cream for days where I only have a minute. So I tried the PACIfICA - Rose Jelly Beauty Sleep Undereye Gel In the 4th pic, the top is me before, and the bottom is me after. What I did: Leave it in the fridge over night In the morning, rub the product in (using the glass beads to massage the eyes). Sadly, the difference was minimal. It made me feel relaxed, but I wonder if I should have used more of the gel / kept the cooling beads on longer. 🧪 INGREDIENTS BREAKDOWN 🧪 I think green tea worked better because I kept it on (and cold) so long. It has a high concentrate of caffeine and ECGC. Both constrict blood vessels, and reduce inflammation. The Pacifica product has caffeine, too. But its first ingredient is witch hazel (reduces swelling). It also has caffeine, rose extract (reduces lines), and blue tansy (soothes irritation). All these are helpful to target dark circles, but maybe they're not potent enough. And the tube is small, so I don't want to use too much of it. On the plus side, it kept my under eyes moisturized all day. So I'll still take it for on the go. But if you REALLY need to look awake for a Zoom meeting or appointment? Green tea is the way to go!
