First and Foremost: Understanding At-Home Chemical PeelsA chemical peel is a high-strength skin exfoliant with a strong pH acidity level that generally sits around 2.0. This trendy skincare category gained its place as a skincare staple by helping address skin problems like acne, pigmentation, scarring, fine lines and wrinkles. Though chemical peels have a lot of beneficial results, there can also be side affects—remember, this is some powerful stuff! So, to help you find a suitable product for your skin type and your specific results, here are some things to note when shopping for a chemical peel, according to real life experiences. How To Use a Chemical Peel at HomeIt's no surprise that an at-home chemical peel can have some side effects, especially because they are products inspired by chemical peels done by licensed dermatologists. Here's what you should know: · Avoid using tretinoin-based products a week before peeling, such as Retin-A or Differin. These products might impact the outcome of your peel due to their highly stimulating qualities. · A patch test is essential! Apply a dab of the chemical peel product on your skin and leave it on for more than a minute before washing it off. Check the patch after 24 hours to make sure your skin isn't allergic to the product. · Clean your face before applying a chemical peel. · Apply your peel using a cotton ball and start with your forehead or chin. · Avoid leaving peel product on your face for more than a minute, so as to prevent possible burns. Chemical Peels IRL Now that you've read about how to do a chemical peel at home, read on to see how others rate their own experiences, and the products that helped them achieve their skin coals. 1. Dr.Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Peel Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Peel can help erase acne and blemishes in just two steps without waiting for recovery. Ideal for more experienced chemical peelers and their tougher skin.2. Drunk Elephant TLC. Sukari Babyfacial™ 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask This cult-favorite peel was created to prevent signs of aging and hyperpigmentation. Its potent formula helps bring out outstanding peel results in what seems like an instant—just beware of your frequency of use, allow your skin to take ample rest time before next treatment.3. Remove rough skin - The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling SolutionAHA's are used to exfoliate the top surface of the skin, helping deliver brighter and more even-toned skin, while a little addition of BHA's can unclog pores. As a blend of two high-concentration acids, we suggest you be cautious about this one—definitely do a skin test beforehand!4.Murad Intensive-C® Radiance PeelPricy but oh so worth it, Intensive-C Radiance Peel is an innovative product made by leading dermatologists. It works to help improve the complexion of your skin, and this creamy-textured peel works intensively to help combat uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. 5. Amorepacific Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing PowderSafe to use during both your am and pm routine, this powdered texture peel contains enzymes instead of acids, meaning it's gentler but still packs a punch! Using a green tea-derived probiotic enzyme along with papaya enzymes, this product helps remove dead skin and deep-cleans pores effectively, leaving your skin more moisturized and bright. One more thing:Recovery Tips To FollowImmediately after a peel, extensive redness and stinging are common. Usually, peeling will start two or three days after, so keep your hands off your face, then apply a simple moisturizer with no irritating ingredients. On top of that, we highly recommend you use sunscreen products with at least SPF 30 to avoid sun damage. Cherie's beauties are sharing their wonderful experiences with chemical peels. an amazing line for dull skin + pigmentation

Georgette Klinger and Cherie gifted these products to me so I could review them honestly! I have been using them for ten days now, and I have thoughts to share! I supplemented this routine with a moisturizer, spf, and eye cream, as well as hydrating masks every three days. Pre-Information — I’ve used many vitamin c products in the past, and my skin likes the ingredient! I have combo skin, which is sensitive and acne prone. I also have rosacea, which makes my skin red, especially when using actives. Every product here has fragrance and all the products smell like an orchard (it’s strong!). If you are sensitive to fragrance, keep that in mind. GEORGETTE KLINGER - Vitamin C Cleansing Gel 6.7 oz I like this cleanser, and I don’t usually reach for gel cleansers because they tend to be fairly stripping. This one is gentle and doesn’t dehydrate my skin on impact; I use it as a second cleanse at night following an oil based cleanser. It doesn’t irritate my skin, but kind of soothes it instead — which is a lot to ask for from a cleanser. Not the best for daytime use for me, I find that in the mornings my skin is better off with water + toner. Three stars because it smells like dollar store hand soap and I cannot ignore it. GEORGETTE KLINGER - Vitamin C Toner I think it’s an okay toner! I don’t like the dispenser at all, because product comes out fast and it’s hard to control. The viscosity of the toner is pretty thin, but my skin feels smooth after application. It sinks in fast and isn’t sticky! I use this with a reusable cotton round and it preps my skin nicely for the rest of my routine. It’s not really a “special” product for me, and I’m the kind of person who wants skincare routines to be ritualistic and also make me feel good on the inside, so I’ll have to pass on repurchasing. GEORGETTE KLINGER - Vitamin C Complex This might be one of my favorite vitamin c serums! It’s a little tacky, but sinks in faster than some serums I’ve used, and once you apply a moisturizer, the tackiness disappears. It’s pretty gentle and I didn’t experience any discomfort, tingling, or excess redness after application. I really like the packaging on this, and it’s an easy product to slip into your routine. GEORGETTE KLINGER - Vitamin C Mask This is my favorite product out of the four! I LOVE the packaging — pump top for a mask? Revolutionary. The pump makes getting product so easy, and you can control it easily. The texture of this mask is like a thick smoothie, and it smells good, too. I noticed my skin becoming brighter when I use this for a midday pick-me-up. I can guarantee that I’ll run out of this one first. Overall, my skin looks GOOD. I can’t tell if it’s just because of my cycle, or if these products did wonders for me (ten days is a short time to tell I think). I did notice some dehydration towards the five day mark, but overall my skin looks better!
Donts of Exfoliation
Donts of Exfoliation
Absolutely do not over-exfoliate! Over-exfoliation can disrupt the skin barrier function by just simply breaking down too many skin cells and disrupting the moisture content on the epidermis. Often times, especially people with oily skin and acne prone believe exfoliating is going to answer all their acne problems, and go on scrubbing 3+ times a week or using an exfoliating mask too often. This is actually counter intuitive for acne as if can actually make you break out more, and it can create sensitivities you dont need. How do you know you’re over exfoliating? If your skin lets you know. Yes, very confusing, but the reality is some people can actually tolerate more acids and scrubs than others, and the best way to figure out how much your skin can take is to incorporate little by little, one product at a time. If your skin is going red for prolonged periods of time, or tingling, even burning, for long or for the entire duration of having the product on (ie. With a mask) you’re probably overdoing it. Another way to prevent over exfoliation is just knowing when to stop. If your skin is happy and glowy and not breaking out, you may not need that new glycolic acid mask, adding an exfoliating mask to your regimen may just tip the scales into skin barrier disruption and dehydration! Be careful with exfoliation!
The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
Knowing your skin type and skin condition is the first step to treating it. I personally have dehydrated yet oily acne prone skin. The right type of products in a routine can make a huge difference. *Disclaimer: I love all the products above except the Clinique toner (Dont use this please). I will explain below why things are good or bad for acne. Step 1: Cleanse Do - Use gel cleanser like the FARMACY - Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser . The gel formula will deep cleanse the face without stripping. Don’t - Use a cream cleanser like the GEORGETTE KLINGER - Green Tea Cream Cleanser . This is more geared towards dry skin. It will cleanse and hydrate but won’t give you the deep cleanse oily/acne prone skin needs. Step 2: Treat Do - Use a product with salicylic acid like PAULA'S CHOICE - SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA LIQUID EXFOLIANT . Salicylic acid is oil soluble and will dive deep into your pores breaking up any sebum or debris. Don’t - Use something with detnatured alcohol like the CLINIQUE - Clarifying Lotion 3 For Combination Oily Skin . It may feel good at first but the alcohol is stripping your skin and does more harm than good. In the end your face will over compensate for the stripping effect and produce more oil. Step 3: Moisturize Do - Use a gel moisturizer like the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair BarriAIR Cream . I love this because it is free of a lot of skin irritants like fragrance and dyes. The gel formula won’t feel too heavy on the skin but will give you all the hydration benefits you need. Don’t- Use a heavy, cream moisturizer like the Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Moisturizer . Heavy creams are more geared for dry skin. For oily skin it will just sit on top potentially clogging pores (plus I do believe this has some comedogenic ingredients). These are basic steps I’ve been using for a while to make my skin routine the best is can be for my skin concern. If you have any questions about any steps or products let me know below. 🖤 /*some products gifted
