We're beginning to feel like the wintertime is an open invitation for our skin to go haywire. We still stand by it being some of the most joyful times of the year, but between dodging colds and avoiding frostbite, all while maintaining a social life, winter can feel like a wellbeing battleground. Here, we're addressing a year-round concern that seems to exemplify itself in the wintertime: acne. Now, if you're acne-prone, you've probably tried a good amount of products and, with time and patience, have found a routine that works for you. With the weather changing into the cold winter, that cushy routine may be thrown out the window. If you find yourself breaking out and can't seem to put a finger on it, we've got the top problems, and solutions, that cause winter acne. All products featured below are sourced from the posts of Cherie's users. Download our app, Cherie, to learn more about us and join our beauty community! 1. High & Harsh Winds When we apply our acne treatments, moisturizers, or any skincare product for that matter, they sit on our skin for some time before penetrating further into the skin to effect change. Acne treatments and products that don't make it past the surface of your skin, don't work. So, how does your acne solutions get really effected in the winter? Imagine you've just done your morning skin routine using nice-selected acne products, a few minutes later, you step outside to begin your day. If you live in a climate with harsh winter winds, these winds will affect your skin barrier badly, and also dry out your skincare products, therefore not allowing it to absorb into your skin properly. To avoid this, a quick solution to this problem is to apply your morning skincare routine a bit earlier, at least 20-30 minutes before you leave the house. This allows the products to do its job without the interference of winter weather. Another solution is to choose products that quickly soak into the skin or, more importantly, can still protect your skin barrier even against the harsh winds. A product that can stand the test of winter winds is your best bet because it can act as an occlusive for your serums and acne treatments and protect your skin's barrier. For Protecting Your Skin Barrier These two magic products promise to restore skin barrier and hydrate at the same time, so just check them out!2. Indoor Heat vs. Outdoor ColdIf you're experiencing some serious cold, chances are you have your home heater on to at least 70 degrees. Most stores and buildings will also have their heater around that point, which means that as you go about your day, your skin is having to adjust from a very cold climate to a very warm one. This is the perfect recipe for... You guessed it, dryness. And with dryness like this, our skin has a natural tendency to balance itself, which means your skin will produce more sebum to restore its hydration and moisture. All that excess oil left unbalanced shows up as acne on your skin. Since you'll inevitably be going in and out of very cold and very warm climates during the winter, we suggest using a balancing cleanser that helps control excess sebum while bringing hydration and moisture. For Balancing Your SkinIf you want to balance oil and hydrate your skin, try a nourishing facial cleanser. That way, you are able to use it every day without missing a beat.3. Less Sunlight, More Acne As any living-being knows, the sun is a super important part of creating and maintaining life. The sun provides natural anti-inflammatory benefits along with supporting your immune system, which is why in the summer, even though you're profusely sweating, you tend to have such a gorgeous golden glow. We suggest reaching for products in winter that help with anti-inflammation to soothe and calm your skin from acne breakouts. Herbal formula means that it can be soothing and reliable to even the most sensitive skin in winter. Traditional herbal ingredients have been applied for centuries and proofed to be effective. Except herbal extract, magic botanical ingredients in skincare products are also significantly functional in relieving inflammatory skin. Oil is an optimal form to contain plant extraction, which always be considered to be greasy in other more moist seasons. However, hydration requirement makes this kind of facial oil much more friendly. For Anti-Inflammation

Which moisturizer is right for my skin type?
Which moisturizer is right for my skin type?
A little bit of moisturizing a day keeps the dry skin away! Moisturizing is crucial to a healthy skin barrier. All 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 help with dry skin. Yet, not all moisturizers are created equal. So, how do you choose the 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 for your skin? I am breaking it down today for #WinterSkinReliefDay. In general, 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 provide a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance that holds it in. 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 are formulated in 𝟯 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: ✅ 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: greasy/oily and block the evaporation of water from your skin. 💦 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: pull water into the top layer of your skin both from the air and from deeper layers of the skin. 🧖🏾‍♀️ 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: not really moisturizering but rather to make the skin feel smooth by replacing absent skin the lipids and oils to fill in all the cracks on the skin, helping smooth out the surface of your skin and repair your skin’s barrier. Here is a cheat sheet to help you select the appropriate moisturizer for your skin. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 📅 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆, regardless of your skin type. Even oily skin needs moisturizing every day with the right type of moisturizer. Please avoid moisturizing reactively, aka moisturizering 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 when your skin is dry. 🚿 Always apply to 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻. P.S I keep my moisturizer in my shower to apply right after I towel off gently. 🔑 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿. This is key for the winter 🥶 months. You need both a humectant which draw moisture to the skin and occlusive ingredients which keep water from evaporating off of your skin. 🌓𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿. This is really important in the winter if you are using humectant heavy moisturizer. The dry air can pull the water out of your skin. Sounds crazy right? 🚫𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even if you do not have sensitive skin. Fragrance and coloring are just a set up for possible irritation/allergy and no one has time for that. 🦶🏾 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸. They too need some TLC. #skincaretips #moisturizer #skincareroutine #skincareproducts #dermatologist #dermatology

since COVID has started, I know many people are on new (or refining old) skincare journeys and I’ve recently been experiencing some dryness/dehydrating as the winter rolls around, which also aggravates my already oily skin. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for a while and also was formerly an esthetician, so I can get picky with skincare and ingredients. ‼️for reference, my skin type is: combo (oily/dehydrated), formerly acneic, hyperpigmentation prone, and sensitive 🔬I’ve used Dr. Jart in the past and love that it’s a Korean, science-backed brand so I was stoked to try this Porecting Solution Mask! this mask promises fresh, clear glowing skin that deeply cleanses and purifies pores. the mask contains charcoal and saponine, which creates the bubbling effect you see in the above photo. this product does not contain sulfates, paragons, are phthalates. 🛁when I first took it out of its package, I thought there were *two* masks per package instead of one, but if you read the instructions, there’s actually a “mask film” on the actual mask itself that you’re supposed to remove, so make sure to do that! the actual mask is thick and full of product while the mask film is thinner and lighter in color. the directions also give you a tip to massage the mask to release the bubbling/foaming effect - I did this mask with my mom at the same time in separate rooms and she totally didn’t read the instructions so her mask didn’t bubble at all, so I would suggest to definitely massage the mask. 💬I left it on for 20 minutes and it continued to bubble about 5-10 minutes in, then stopped bubbling. you can hear the bubbles pop as the mask sits on your face, which is kinda weird but cool. the mask didn’t slip off AT ALL which is also a huge, even when I put a sweatshirt on over my head. after taking it off, the serum took about another 10 minutes to soak into my skin and my face felt super smooth and my pores looked tighter and more clean. I have a few sebaceous filaments on my nose that I sometimes pick at and as I was rubbing the serum into my skin, I saw that some of the sebaceous filaments on my nose were sloughing off (which is gross, but speaks to how well the product worked)! overall, I would definitely recommend and use this again! if you have oily skin or otherwise clogged pores, sebaceous filaments, blackheads, etc. I would suggest this for you. even if you have dry/normal skin, this would be a good option since my skin didn’t feel dried out at all afterward, even in my dry spell now, and felt rather hydrated and plump. five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
