I have never been one to fall asleep fast. I’ve tried lots of tips and tricks to fall asleep and this one is worth sharing! Happy New Year 2021! 2020 was a wild rollercoaster and I think many of us will say that we are happy it is over! Something I’ve recently been getting very into is hair health. I have always had very thick hair and a lot of it too. It wasn’t until it started getting unnecessarily tangly, that I decided to give my hair a little more attention. For reference, I do not color my hair regularly- I have gotten highlights twice in my life. Here are some little changes you can make to give your hair the extra love it deserves. 1. Wash your hair less! I wash my hair twice a week now (in comparison to nearly every day when I was a swimmer). It will take your hair a little bit of adjusting, so the extra oil production will go down within a few weeks. Fewer washes also saves you time. If you need a little bit of a pick-up, try some dry shampoo instead. Batiste - Blush Dry Shampoo Floral & Flirty 2. If you must use heat on your hair (blowdryer, flat iron, curling iron), then make sure to use a heat protectant beforehand! This will help prevent more breakage and damage you get as a result of heat tools. MOROCCANOIL - Perfect Defense Heat Protectant 3. Try to avoid wearing tight hairstyles daily and sleeping with your hair in, for example, a pony tail. Tight hairstyles cause hair to break more easily! 4. Use a wet brush (or wide-toothed comb) in the shower. I gently comb through my hair when I have my conditioner in. Wet brush - Wet Original Brush 5. Nourish your hair when you’re out of the shower. Using hair masks or oils post-shower help add moisture to your hair and in turn prevent breakage. I use a pump of argan oil on my wet hair and it does wonders for me. Other oils that can be used are coconut, castor, and even olive. MOROCCANOIL - Moroccanoil Treatment 6. Dry your hair with a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt. Why? Regular towels have rough surfaces. The friction caused by drying can promote frizz and lead to more breakage. TURBIE TWIST - Microfiber Hair Towel 7. Try sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates are safe and clean effectively. And I recommend them for anyone with very greasy hair that washes often because it simply gets the job done. However, if you have dyed, course, damaged, and/or frizz-prone hair, I recommend trying a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfate-free shampoo is milder than those with sulfates. They are also less drying than sulfate shampoos (sulfates are so good at cleaning, they wash out all the oils that would be good for our scalp). Anything with collagen, biotin, or omega-3 (found in fish oil) are said to be great promoters of hair growth and generally stronger hair. Brush your hair before going to bed. It helps distribute your hair’s oils that have gathered at your scalp. It also helps stimulate your scalp. I personally sleep in a loose braid as well. There you have a few easy tips! I started making some of these changes about a month ago and I can honestly say that I see a difference.
