GAME-CHANGING TIPS FOR THE PERFECT MANI 💅🏻💖✨
Everyone always wants to know how I manage to keep my nails looking healthy & freshly painted every time they see me. And no, I don’t just paint my nails every time before seeing them. It’s a whole process and habit that I’ve curated for the healthiest strongest nail routine! These are all things that I do and have learned from listening to pro nail artists, from nail care brands, etc.: 1) For a mani that always looks fresh and glossy, repaint your Top Coat every 2-3 days to keep up the shine! You can turn a slightly buffed nail back to it’s glossy glory days easily. This way, your nails will always look like they’ve just been painted and it also prevents chipping! I love my OLIVE&JUNE - Nail Polish Topcoat - it dries fast and looks super shiny. 2) When prepping your nails for your next manicure, shape and cut your nails with your old polish still on! This way, you can easily visualize the shape of your mani without getting distracted or thrown off by your natural nail line. 3) Use a cuticle oil, treatment, or serum! This will help promote healthy growth of your nail, keep away any dry cuticle bits around your nails and always complement your mani with smooth, beautiful cuticles! I love OLIVE&JUNE - Cuticle Serum Set - it’s super lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin so goodbye greasy fingers! 4) More on the cuticles, try not to cut or trim your cuticles- push them back gently with your nail or a cuticle stick instead! But make sure your cuticles have been softened (like a few minutes after applying a cuticle serum or right after a shower). This is something my grandma taught me when I was very young. By gently maintaining your cuticles with this method, your cuticles will never over grow to the point where you need to trim them! Once you start cutting/trimming them, it’s really hard to stop. 5) If you struggle to keep you hand still while painting your nails, try Olive&June’s Manicure Tool, Poppy! It’s a rubber removable tool that fits over most nail polish handles and its ergonomic shape guides you to make smoother and more even strokes! OLIVE&JUNE - The Poppy Manicure Tool 6) Keep up the hand cream! I keep it on my bedside table as a visual reminder to put some on. If you want a super rich one, try L'OCCITANE - Shea Butter Hand Cream ! But if you want something more lightweight and not as thick/sticky feeling after applying, try OLIVE&JUNE - Olive&June Hand Serum ! This will really help moisturize and nourish your hands daily. 7) Use an oil-based, acetone/alcohol-free nail polish remover. An oil-based one like ella+mila - Soy Nail Polish Remover Unscented will help to nourish nails your nails while removing nail polish instead of stripping them of its natural oils! *I know I mention Olive&June a lot but I just want to mention I’m not sponsored by them, I just truly love their products!

DIY Fall Ombre Nails 🍁🍂💅🏻 Super Easy! ✨
These ombre nails are what I call “nail art without actually needing to be good at art”! These nail polish shades are perfect for Fall and definitely make me want to cozy up in bed with a book. Here is what I used: Thumb & Pinky: OLIVE&JUNE - HGC Nail Polish Pointer Finger: OLIVE&JUNE - JJ Nail Polish Middle Finger: OLIVE&JUNE - MG Nail Polish Ring Finger: OLIVE&JUNE - JO Nail Polish I love Olive & June nail polishes because their wide flat brushes make painting SO easy and the formulas are always so creamy. Once they dry, they are not going to chip or crack away! (Seriously! They last a good 2 weeks on me before I see a single chip!) They are $8 on the Olive & June website and they also offer *free* polish painting classes! They have beginner level classes up to advanced that teach you nail basics and nail art! Some tips for painting your nails: - Always build up the color with thin coats (it looks better and will dry much faster than thick goopy coats) - I like to do 3 strokes when painting each nail (first down the middle, and then one on each side) don’t overdo it on the strokes otherwise your polish may gunk up! - Wait 5 minutes between each coat and at least an hour after your top coat - Use some nail polish remover to prep your nail beds before application so it removes any impurities and oils from your nail (which can affect the longevity of your polish!)

how to get the perfect at-home mani
there’s nothing more frustrating than going to paint your nails and ending up with a mess 🙃 that’s why I love OLIVE&JUNE - The Poppy Manicure Tool . it’s a universal nail polish handle that’s ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip that gives you more control while you paint your nails. I didn’t know I needed this all my life, but I sure did. it fits over the cap of any olive and june polish, and while I haven’t tried it with other brands, it seems like the silicone (?) poppy would fit over other caps as well. I have olive and june’s clear top coat, so I used it with the poppy to seal my latest at-home mani. I love this because I can see it being especially beneficial for those with conditions that make it difficult to hold a small nail polish cap. the poppy is much more comfortable to hold, and I love seeing inclusive design (I’d love to hear from anyone on this who tends to struggle with painting their nails—did this help?) the poppy is $16 and comes in white and pink. if you paint your nails on a regular basis and/or if you’re someone who needs a little help when it comes to control and/or grip, I definitely recommend checking it out.

New In From Olive&June 💖 Hydrating & Non Greasy
I loove a good hand cream. But what I find annoying sometimes is how sticky it can be especially when I still have things to do around the house or even when I’m out and about! What I love about the NEW OLIVE&JUNE - Olive&June Hand Serum is that it’s super fast-absorbing. Although it’s packed with amazing ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Cactus Flower, and fruit extracts with AHA’s, this hand serum doesn’t feel greasy or thick! It honestly just plumps up the skin, hydrates your hands and absorbs away. And my hands stay glowy and healthy looking for hours after! It’s also Fragrance-Free (if that’s something that you care about), but personally I enjoy a little fragrance sometimes just for quick calming self-care moment. It’s $18, which is quite pricey for a hand serum, but honestly the formula is amazing. I’m always ordering nail polishes from them anyways so if this hand serum gets me to free shipping on their website, I am happy to support!

BEST NAIL POLISH BRAND EVER?! 💅🏻✨
When Olive&June launched their first ever nail collection last spring full of neutral shades with a variety of undertones, I fell in love (not to mention the super cute packaging AND genius marketing on Instagram). I bought their Pink Studio Box full of their basic nail tools and all of their neutral shades. I have every single one of their shades besides their new Summer Collection (which I am definitely planning to buy!) Slowly, I’m replacing all my other nail polishes with theirs and I’m not mad about it! The Brush: all bottles have a flat and wide brush that allows for optimal and flawless application The Formula: it’s so easy to use and allows for 2-3 coats if you want 100% opacity. Some of their more lighter nude shades require 3 coats because the 1st and 2nd coats can be slightly streaky. The top coat also gives the so much glossy shine (I often have people asking me if I have gel on!) Lasting Power: I can go almost 2 weeks without any chipping! There’s something about the formula that really allows their polishes to stay on and stay shiny. Extra Tips: 1) If you’re not used to painting your own nails, try OLIVE&JUNE - The Poppy Manicure Tool ! It’s a removable tool that attaches to the handle of the brush and allows for super easy and steady application. I personally don’t need it but it definitely helps with steadying the hand. 2) Re-apply the Top Coat once every 2-3 days to top up on shine and prevent the tips of your mani from chipping! (This is a tip from Olive&June Founder Sarah Gibson-Tuttle) Have you tried Olive & June before?

HOW TO: SKITTLES MANI
I love a colorful mani and this new Skittles Mani trend is so fun! I love Olive & June nail polishes because their formula is honestly THE BEST. It dries relatively fast and gives the longest-lasting mani compared to all other brands I’ve tried. The lacquered finish is super shiny and hard so I always get questions on whether they’re gels or not! Essie polishes are my second favorite because of the range of formulas they offer, from sheers that strengthen your nails, to bright rainbow colors and their new quick-dry formula. What I used: Thumbs- Olive & June in SC 2nd- Essie in Rocky Rose 3rd- Essie in Feeling Wellies 4th- Essie in Chillato 5th- Essie in You Do Blue

🌸Best Nail Art Kit for Beginners🌸
Visiting the nail salon bi-weekly can get very expensive. But it's totally understandable — especially since intricate nail art can be tough to pull off if you're not a pro.  Perfectly painting nails can already be very challenging — after all, you're already drawing thin lines and fine details on such a small canvas! But don't lose hope: You can (and will) achieve gorgeous nail art at home. You just need to get the right nail tools. (You'll probably want to watch some YouTube tutorials and practice too, of course.) Honestly, find right tools can make painting nail art easier (and better). So, to help you step up your nail art game, I’ve listed the top nail tools you should own. Be ready to get creative once you get them! File – A foam board with a fine grit. This is our favorite type of file because it works with all nail types, gently smoothing edges without fraying them, and offers the right balance of flexibility and control when it comes to shaping. Nail Polish Remover – Acetone or non-acetone is really a personal preference depending on how your nail bed reacts and your sensitivity to the smell of acetone. Some people prefer non-acetone because they feel like it is more gentle on their nails and cuticles. Some people prefer traditional acetone formulas because they work fast to strip the polish away. Once you are doing your nails at home regularly, you’ll see why it’s your BFF. You’ll love it even more if you use a nail polish remover pot. To use a pot, all you have to do is dip your finger into the center of the pre-soaked sponges and twist until your nail is polish-free. They are especially handy when you’re doing your own nails since you can clean up one finger at a time and won’t run the risk of messing up your mani with messy cotton balls or wipes. Clippers – Flat edge clipper is best for trimming and shaping the nail tip with a clean finish. It offers the most control and variation. The flat blades let you make any shape you want unlike the more typical curved edge clippers, which automatically create a rounder shape. Our manicurists swear by them. Clean Up Brush – This is the thing you never knew you needed and will wonder how you ever lived without! Our manicurists swear by these brushes since they take care of even the tiniest specks of unwanted paint without messing with the rest of your mani. Once you’re finished painting your nails, dip the brush into your nail polish remover pot and use it to clean up any slip-ups or to define lines. Buffer – This cute little buffer bar helps smooth and even out the edges and surface of your nail plate, as well as gently removes dry skin and hangnails without needing to snip them away. You’ve probably seen someone using a cuticle trimmer to cut away at dry skin, but when they do, they are actually leaving your nail unprotected from bacteria, fungus, and other not-so-pretty stuff. Using cuticle oil regularly is the best way to keep your cuticles healthy and looking good. OLIVE&JUNE - At Home Mani Kit

trying to perfect my at-home mani!
not yet comfy with the idea of salon services, so i’m learning to do my nails in this season! * products used * ORLY - Orly Base Coat & Top Coat this stuff is amazing!! i think that it is making a huge difference in the staying power for my at-home manis and pedis. OLIVE&JUNE - CDJ i want to love this product more. it’s a beautiful color - a creamy pink that works well with my skintone. the texture of the product is very thick though, and i don’t quite feel like it looks smooth. i could just be heavy-handed, and i’ll keep trying because i have been eyeing the nabela collection (so perfect for summer!). OLIVE&JUNE - Nail Polish Topcoat this is great! one of the nicer top coats that i have used. also very thick, and provides a good amount of shine. OLIVE&JUNE - Clean Up Brush maybe i’m just a sucker for cute products, but the acrylic handle and the cute logo just do it for me. i also feel very professional cleaning up my nails after painting them. please share at-home mani tips! 💅🏾 i’m always looking to get better. 🤗

Nontoxic Nail Polishes at Every Price💅🏻 Avoid 3 risky ingredients!
It is important to avoid the ingredients which are linked to certain health problems (asthma, allergies, reproductive system disorder, cancer, etc.). The good news is that there are more and more non-toxic nail products available: 3-free, 5-free or, better yet, 8,9 and 10-free nail polishes which are free of all harmful ingredients. Here are some suggestions and tips for you! My Beloved Non-toxic brands Olive & June Nail Polish - $8 10 Free Chemistry Clean Nail Color - $18 Ella + Mila Elite Nail Polish -$11 Pacifica 7 Free Nail Color - $9 Static Nails - $16 I also recommend the nail polish colors which I'm obsessed with recently! My favorite one is the liquid glass nail polish from Static: bohemian blue. This liquid glass nail poloish is formulated with a breakthrough formula loaded with rich pigments and natural antioxidants for a healthy manicure. So long lasting and beautiful! just like they were done professionally. Risky ingredients you should avoid Toluene It is one of the most widely used products in the composition of so-called "classic" nail polishes. It is a solvent widely used in industry. It dissolves resins, oils, or fats. In the case of nail polish, it makes them easier to apply ... and it is he who is responsible for their characteristic smell! Basically, toluene, in addition to causing allergies, it's coconut. Formaldehydes These are hardening compounds which in particular allow the varnish to dry quickly. But since 2004, they have been classified among carcinogenic products by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.  Dibutyl phthalate Normally, you should never come across this component on the back of your nail polish bottle. Listed as an endocrine disruptor, it is strictly prohibited in the European Union. But the substance is sometimes found in polishes bought outside Europe. If you like me who can't live without nail polish but want to say stop poisoning, are you ready to try a cleaner nail polish? 💅

Don’t fall for the cute packaging.
Don’t fall for the cute packaging.
For starters, 2 oz. vs. 9 oz. 🙃 Yes, the Olive June version is adorable. But, that may be it’s only redeeming quality. It runs out quickly and the sponge disintegrates over time. Leaving little sponge fibers all over your nails and fingers. That’s a deal breaker for me. The whole purpose of this product is to avoid hassle. No complaints about the CVS brand version. It’s over 4 times the amount of product. No sponge disintegration. And, less than half the price (or free if you play your coupons right).

Greatest invention ever!
Greatest invention ever!
Olive & June’s nail polish may not be the best polish ever but they do have super cute colors. And in addition to that, they have this AMAZING product called the Poppy that you can easily put on the handles of nail polishes. I have used it on theirs, of course, Essie, and Ten Over Ten handles and it works perfectly. As someone who has shaky left hands when trying to paint my right hand, this solves the problem. It has a learning curve (how to hold it, where you like the brush in relation to holding this, etc) but it definitely helps since it has a larger surface area. Since using this, the nails on my right hand look amazing. 😋

Battle of the natural nail polish
Battle of the natural nail polish
This week I tried 2 different natural nail polishes. Both ella+mila - Love Collection Nail Polish and OLIVE&JUNE - SE are 7 free. I did need 3 coats of each to get my desired color but they looked great... until Ella+Mila chipped 2 days into my mani. That combined with the easier applicator of Olive&June made me prefer O&J more. The color is great and they have tons of options at Target and on the website. I can’t wait to try another Olive&June color!

Not long lasting :(
Not long lasting :(
The package is gorgeous. The colors are appealing. The social media marketing is ON POINT. But, the polish is not long lasting and that’s the NUMBER ONE priority for me when it comes to polish! I’m no rookie to at home mani’s either. I know the tricks to preventing chips: pure acetone. No water before or after. Proper cuticle care. Letting each layer dry. Applying a base coat. None of that matters! This polish chips quickly. 😕

Cutest colors!
Cutest colors!
You cannot deny that every time you see Olive & June on Instagram that you fall in love with all their colors. This is in color HZ. I wish I could purchase them all because of how cute they are but unfortunately my wallet does not allow that. Compared to other nail polishes, Olive & June delivers mediocre results. Unlike others where 1-2 brushes are enough for your first coat, this needs at least 3. I don’t know if it’s the brush bristles or just the color of the polish but it’s horrible. It does require two coats, like many other polishes. Oh, and another down side is that these chip rather quickly; I would say in ~1 week. By week 2, half the polish is on my nails and the other half is gone. By week 2.5, everything is gone.
