Do’s of exfoliation
Do use an enzymatic cleanser to exfoliate if you have sensitive skin! I love a good enzymatic exfoliation, its gentle, its effective and works on all skin types, including sensitive skin. This formula starts off as a powder, add water, then becomes this frothy, foamy texture that gives a gentle cleanse; a good second cleanse. They’re a gentler exfoliation because theres no beads (physical) or acids (chemical) and works by digesting away dead skin cells from the skin, revealing bright, smooth skin in a gentle step. I love these, and would recommend to anyone! This is a great way to cleanse because it sheds dead skin cells, as well as removing residual matter like dirt, oils, left over makeup (not full makeup- this is definitely a second cleanse) and it does so really gently. These powders once emulsified are foamy, definitely not abrasive and there are no acids in here that you may be sensitive or intolerant to. Ingredients to look out for when looking for enzyme exfoliants: rice bran/rice enzyme, papaya extract, pumpkin extract. These are known ingredients that contain enzymatic exfoliants.

Toners
Toners has always been a confusing topic. What type donyoue use? Do you even need a toner? The answer is- not really. So why do I have so many- well, I like to experiment 🤓 Ive used so many different types of toners for my oily skin type to target pores, hydration, remove makeup residue and have come to the following conclusions: ✅ Yes, you shouldnt really have any makeup residue if you have the riggt cleansing routine, and toners shouldnt be your backup to makeup sure all your makeup is off. But my philosophy is- how do you know you’re makeup is completely gone if you dont follow in with a toner? If theres no residue, great, then you’re sure you’re skins at a physiological pH, if there is residue, you know you’re cleansing routine isnt effective enough. ✅ No, if you dont particularly need a toner to set your skin to a physiological pH if your cleanser if pH balanced- and alot of them are these days. ✅ A vitamin-c toner is not that great as a vitamin c product- you’re better off with a vitamin c serum. I did not see much results that a vitamin-c product is supposed to give with this toner. ✅ I like a pH balancing toner to use right after a shower, so thats what my Herbivore pH balancing toner is currently being used for. I also like that its good for oily skin and acne with its witch hazel and willow bark extract, respectively. However its not really my favourite because I dont like the scent of jasmine- and its definitely there. ✅ I love the Bioderma sebium toner because I feel like it has done a great deal for my pores. If you’re looking for a toner that is oil balancing and gentle and pore refining- this is the one. I think a toner is a very effective product in general for that purpose anyway. ✅ A hydrating toner is also great, maybe you dont really need it if you have many hydrating products already in your routine, but i think you cant really get enough hydration, and I think a toner is a great way to get an extra boost. Longterm, I will likely keep my hydrating Kosmetic Immunity toner and Bioderma oil balancing toner, and not bother with the Herbivore or Pixi ones, but experimenting is always fun.

Donts of Acne
DONT be afraid to layer the right products and DONT be afraid of oils! Ever heard the phrase “fight oil with oil?” Well its the same with oily skin. If you never feed your skin oils, or even strip your skin of its natural oils, your skin will think it is dehydrated and will overproduce oil as a response. The key is balance. Fight oil with oil, but also be sure your skin is hydrated. Do not deprive your skin of hydration because your skin will find a way to produce it. I use my Emerald Oil after a strong exfoliating mask, and my Lapis oil when I breaking out alot. I use my lavender sleeping mask a few times a week to get that boost of hydration and i use a hydrating toner everyday to be sure my moisture barrier is in check. All this to prevent over producing oils and therefore preventing acne 👌🏼

mBeta-Glucan Nourishing, Refining Toner✨
mBeta-Glucan is said to be more hydrating than hyaluronic acid, so to put that to the test, I stopped using any of my HA products to see how hydrating this felt. The result? So hydrating on its own I cant wait to see how it performs synergistically with HA 🤩 I used this directly after cleansing and continued with my routine and my skin felt so glowy, SO soft and smooth throughout the day. I would definitely recommend this to everyone as well, because who doesnt need a boost of hydration every day- even if you’re already using hydrating ingredients, this is going to make it better 🙌🏼 The only improvement I think I would personally want in the toner is having an actual drop-wise application. Its in a spray bottle- and the spritzer is just lovely, and although I know that works for many people- for me it makes for kind of an uneven application because I feel like I spritz more on one side than the other. That being said, I pat it all in at the end, and it all works!

Products used to form yesterdays mask. This is why I love @niu.body clay powders. I can experiment with different products and make a new type of mask every time 🤩 I added the @jkosmmune_cosmetics enzyme cleanser to get a gentle enzymatic exfoliation, as well as the m beta glucan toner for a good hydration- m beta glucan is supposed to be more hydrating than hyaluronic acid, which is mind blowing to me 🤯. These two products were gifted to me by the brand, and have only been using them for a week, but so far I’m really liking them. Will review both products soon. Finally, I used @herbivorebotanicals Emerald for a calming, nourishing effect. I was happy with the result of this mask; skin felt smoother and plumped, and brighter 😇 . . Get 20% @niu.body with code Leena20 😉 .

🎖 RANKINGS: Cleansers
Cleansers are the building blocks of a solid routine! They should be effective without stripping the skin of essential oils. There's different types of cleanser - first cleanses or second cleanses, foaming and cream cleanses. The list goes on. So what cleansers work for my combo, oily skin that's prone to breakouts? Here's my rankings: 1. KOSMETIC IMMUNITY - Enzyme Cleansing Powder is my favorite because I can use it morning and night, it's effective and gentle, and light exfoliates. It's also a powder so it's perfect for traveling. It foams when water is added, creating a creamy lather. I think it will work for all skin types since it's so gentle, but also adds hydration back into the skin! 2. iS CLINICAL - Cleansing Complex is next on my list because it's a great gel cleanser! It exfoliates, breakups oils and boosts cell turnover. It also heals skin damage and has a light lather. I use this especially when my skin is breaking out and I find it super soothing! A tiny drop is all you need so the bottle will last me a very long time. It's not stripping, but doesn't leave my skin as hydrated as the Enyzme Powder Cleanser. 3. iS CLINICAL - Warming Honey Cleanser is last on my list solely because I've gone through it so quickly! It's a balm cleanser that smells like honey. It's perfect for blemish-prone skin and helps to balance and refine it! It doesn't foam or lather, but speads like honey and is such a beautiful experience to apply. It can be used as a mask as well! I haven't noticed any warming affect when I've used this. Overall, each cleanser has a place in my routine! I love using them all and will continue to purchase them, but if I had to choose one it would be the Enzyme Cleansing Powder.

Exfoliating 101
What's exfoliating? Why should you do it? How should you do it? If these are questions you have you're in the right place! Exfoliating is removing the top level of skin cells. It can be done physically or chemically, and will brighten the skin, smooth texture and can help to treat acne and wrinkles. For my combination, oily skin I like to use both physical and chemical exfoliants. I use chemical exfoliants daily in the form of exfoliating toners, and use a physical exfoliant once a week to give my skin a reset. Exfoliating helps me to address breakouts and hyperpigmentation! By speeding up the cell renewal rate I'm able to lighten dark spots faster. Exfoliating is important, but for those with sensitive skin it can quickly lead to a compromised skin barrier! My skin can tolerate daily, gentle exfoliating but not all skin will react the same! If you have more sensitive skin an enzyme exfoliant will be a bit gentler than an acid bases one! Here are some of my favorites: Physical YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial iS Clinical Tri-Active Exfoliating Mask Chemical bejbiskin - Light Liquid Exfoliant BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 Enzyme KOSMETIC IMMUNITY - Enzyme Cleansing Powder URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask
