{Mini Reviews} My Scalp Care Collection
Unfortunately, I suffer from dry scalp year-round. It’s worst in winter, but can flare up in warmer months. I try to incorporate using scalp care at least 1x/week and sometimes more in winter to keep my scalp itch-free, soothe irritation, and minimize flakiness. All of these products are good for all hair types. FABLE&MANE - HoliRoots Pre-wash Hair Treatment Oil is a pre-wash hair treatment. It contains ashwagandha and castor oil to promote scalp circulation, strengthen, and nourish. It smells sort of like cologne to me, but does rinse out. It’s good for all hair types. I apply it to my scalp and leave it to sit for about 2-3 hours. You can leave it on up to overnight. This was sent to me by the brand, but I plans to repurchase. $34 KRISTIN ESS - Scalp Detoxifying Bubble Mask This has lasted me so long! It is truly cooling on the scalp and has a fun foamy, bubbling texture that you can feel dissolving build-up and soothing irritation. I apply to areas on my scalp where I get the most flaking and product residue. I use this a lot more in winter. Use on dry hair a few minutes before jumping in the shower. $14 ogx - Detoxifying + Pomegranate & Ginger Scalp Toner is a post-wash spray treatment that contains pomegranate and ginger to detoxify and remove product buildup. This is easy to apply and rub into the scalp. It feels kind of cooling and smells like the name implies (but not overpowering). This isn’t my fave of the bunch, but a good budget option. $5-9 Zion Health - Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub Vanilla Coconut with Mangosteen Powder is a lovely scalp scrub! It contains salt, vanilla, and coconut. Its texture is soft with just enough grit to be able to work through wet hair. It does lather a bit. It can dry my hair out, so I make sure to follow with a good conditioner. Definitely cleans my scalp! A little goes a long way. Sent by the brand. $20 Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo smells like thin mint Girl Scout cookies! It has micro-exfoliating particles to exfoliate the scalp, while charcoal detoxifies, and coconut oil nourishes. I do find this also dries my hair out so I do need to use a good conditioner after, but it leaves my scalp feeling awesome! This is my favorite scalp scrub. It’s pricier but a little goes a long way, and I just loveeee the smell. I also recommend the scalp treatment from this same line, but I used mine up and need to finish some of these before repurchasing. Sent by the brand. $42 All are cruelty-free except OGX. #CheriePartner

. 🧖🏽‍♀️ I was gifted this Deep Cleansing Scalp and Hair Scrub in Vanilla Coconut with Mangosteen Powder from @zionhealth. Sea salt is used as the physical exfoliator.  It also contains several other natural ingredients such as coconut oil, argan oil, vitamin E, aloe, almond oil, clay minerals, etc.  This product comes in two other scents – Pear Blossom and Green Apple. . First off, the smell is heavenly. It smells like a tropical coconut dessert in a tub. It’s a thick but gentle scrub that really foams up as you scrub your head/scalp. . I initially started using this product once/week as per recommendation but I found it too drying for my scalp as I noticed I was scratching my head a lot.  I then transitioned to using it once every two weeks or so and I found this frequency more effective for me.  The main change I noticed after using this product is that my scalp did not get as easily oily or “dirty” looking as before, which was helpful since I don’t shampoo my hair everyday.  I have barely reached for my dry shampoo. . I naturally shed a lot of hair. With this scrub, I noticed that I would sometimes shed even more hair than usual as I rinse off my conditioner. I guess this makes sense because it is an exfoliator? . In terms of packaging, there seems to be a crucial piece of instruction missing on their packaging label. I have never used a hair scrub before and perhaps it is my naïve self that thought I would use the scrub after my shampoo and conditioner on my first use, like I would with a hair mask. This led to numerous, scary, tangles in my hair.  On my second use, I used the scrub between my shampoo and conditioner, which is exactly the way you are supposed to use it (the complete instructions are on their website). So, it would really help if the complete instructions were included on the packaging label. . Overall, I am enjoying this product. Thank you @zionhealth for introducing a hair/scalp scrub into my routine.  We all talk about the importance of exfoliating our skin, so our hair/scalp should also receive the same treatment!  It makes sense to exfoliate our hair/scalp to scrub off dead cells, allowing for new and healthy hair growth! .

Zionhealth Oatmeal Soufflé Claymask
Zion Health - ADAMA, oatmeal souffle mask For Sensitive Skin Zionhealth products are all: 🚫 aluminum free 🚫 cruelty free 🚫 gluten free 🚫 paraben free 🌱 vegan The mask is made from a special type of clay, Calcium Montmorillonite, which comes from California near Desert Mineral Springs and is a nutrient rich clay that is healthy to eat and balances pH levels on the skin & inside the body. 🌱 Oatmeal Soufflé Clay Mask: This mask uses oatmeal and jojoba oil with mineral rich clay and is meant to help purify, hydrate and soothe your skin. It’s also safe for anyone with sensitive skin. I really enjoyed using this mask, it left my pores feeling clean and my skin felt very hydrated. It was really great that it didn’t dry my face out or have that tight feeling like a lot of other clay masks I’ve used in the past! I have combo/dry sensitive skin and this did not irritate my skin at all, it actually felt very soothing to have it on! The texture was very thick and nourishing. I would definitely recommend checking this out if you are looking for a clay mask that is not going to leave your skin feeling super tight and dry. I think it’s really worth it because it’s an effective clay mask that leaves your pores and skin looking and feeling clean and refreshed and it’s also an affordable brand which is always great 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Zion Health Oatmeal Soufflé Mask
#Zion Health - oatmeal souffle mask[products]#[OneStar] Product claim: gentle exfoliation and rejuvenation, moisturizing and helps with congestion (from adamaminerals.com) Main Ingredient: oatmeal, jojoba oil, kaolin clay, fractioned coconut oil and montmorillonite clay minerals Texture: clay and scrubby texture Price: $20 – 4oz My Experience: I was super excited to try this because it contains oatmeal, but I am unfortunately not a fan of this mask😐. Starting with the packaging, it was very hard to squeeze out the product because the texture is super tight and clumpy. With the texture being clumpy, it was a messy application. The product itself didn't really do much to my skin either. I wish this worked but I guess this product isn't for me.

✨ Wavy Hair Care ✨
I have wavy hair that I color, so my typical concerns are repair and frizz! Here are some products I use to take care of my hair! . I typically wash my hair every 2-4 days, depending what type of activities I’ve done (exercised or went out to the grocery store or just sat at home and worked on schoolwork). I haven’t found a good dry shampoo yet that works with my hair. Once a week, I use a scalp scrub to make sure I get all the products out I’ve used for the week and give it a fresh start. I also use a hair mask once or twice a week to further nourish my hair and help it stay healthy. I typically only put some frizz cream or spray into my hair after I wash it and then let it air dry and wear it down or in a ponytail or bun most days. . Zion Health - Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub Pear Blossom With Sea Salt Key Ingredients: Sea salt (exfoliates and cleanses), argan oil (protects against damage), and aloe (soothes). Scent: Pear, with a hint of floral Consistency/Texture: Gritty scrub-like texture Price: $19.99 for 4 oz / 113 g Experience: The perfect amount of grittiness to scrub the scalp, but isn’t too harsh. The scent is nice, but doesn’t last long on the hair. I use this after I shampoo once a week and notice that my hair doesn’t get as oily anymore and has more shine because there isn’t as much product buildup. I was sent this by the company. . JOICO - K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Instant Shine and Repair Treatment Key Ingredients: African Manketti Oil (protects color from fading), keratin (repairs damage), and argal oil (deeply hydrated and nourishes hair). Scent: Floral Consistency/Texture: Cream Price: $21.99 for 4.7 fl oz / 140 mL Experience: I bought the full size of this last fall when it was half off at Ulta during their hair event. It helps keep my color from fading as quickly and definitely has helped keep my hair nourished. I use this a few times a week and it keeps my hair sleek, soft, and it doesn’t break as often. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave my hair feeling or looking greasy. . ALTERNA - Caviar Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti-Frizz Blowout Butter Key Ingredients: Pure Caviar extract (helps with manageability, breakage, dryness, and dullness), and a blend of Abyssinian, Camellia, and Avocado Oils (condition and smooth the hair, restoring its strength and luster). Scent: Floral Consistency/Texture: Cream Price: $34 for 5.1 oz / 150 mL Experience: I don’t blow dry my hair often (make a couple times a year), which this is used for to help reduce dry time, but as a frizz cream. It really helps my hair air dry and not be as frizzy! I just apply it from the mid-length of my hair to the ends. It can make your hair look and feel greasy if you apply it too close to the roots. It works great even in the humid Texas heat! Whenever I have used it before blow drying my hair, it definitely reduced the amount of time it took to blow dry it. You only need the smallest amount, so worth the price.

All-natural vegan deodorant
Zion Health gifted me this clay based deodorant. It relies on the detoxifying and absorbent properties of clay to effectively neutralize odor. Now I know that there is a lot of talk about whether or not the presence of aluminum is harmful in deodorant. I’m not here to choose sides or make any arguments, but it’s worth noting that this deodorant is vegan and aluminum free. When it comes to deodorant I look for two criteria. The first being how long the scent lasts, and the second being it’s odor protection. The three scents I tried are Citrus Blossom, Sweet Amber, and Oud. Sweet Amber was my favorite scent of the three, but all three performed equally well. The scents aren’t too strong that a passerby would smell it on me, nor are they too light for me to notice. I did notice however that I needed to reapply the deodorant much earlier in the day than I usually do. But I believe this might be because of its texture. Since it’s clay based its texture is a bit more firm than a traditional deodorant. Therefore it snags a tiny bit on your skin. I think this may have caused me to apply less than I usually do, hence why I needed to reapply it earlier in the day. I do however love the design on the minis. Their cap encases the entire deodorant and needs to be slid upward in order for it to be removed. I really love this idea because it prevents the cap from falling off in my bag and breaking the actual deodorant. This deodorant performed pretty well and I would recommend it if you’re on the hunt for a vegan, cruelty-free alternative to the one you’re currently using. It’s also worth mentioning that they have a really cool range of scents like Lemonade, Bourbon, and White Rum!

My Wash Off Mask Collection
I’ve accumulated quite the wash off mask collection! Now, this isn’t 100% complete because I have 2 more not shown here, but I’ve only used those a few times so can’t review just yet. Curious which ones I like and which ones I don’t? Keep reading! bliss - Mint Chip Mania Mask is a fun, minty-scented, whipped, cooling mask with little shea butter “chips”. Apply and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Per the directions, when you remove it, massage the mask so the “chips” melt down and add a boost of moisture to your skin. I love using this mask right out of the shower or bath because it is cooling. Provides some moisture. Would repurchase. Retails for about $15-17 and is available at some drugstores, Target, Ulta, and the brand’s website. SUMMER FRIDAYS - R + R Mask and SUMMER FRIDAYS - Overtime Mask I’ve reviewed both of these on Cherie and IG. They’re pricey, but I think they’re worth it. They both smell great (R+R like rose petals, Overtime like pumpkin spice), exfoliate, nourish, and leave my skin feeling baby soft in about 10 min. R+R is $52 for a full size, and Overtime is $44. Both of mine are minis because they came in a holiday value set. LUSH - Mask Of Magnaminty I reviewed on Cherie a long time ago. It smells delish! Even more minty and chocolate-y than the Bliss mask. I love the scrubby aduki beans, deep-cleaning kaolin clay, and soothing honey. Leaves my face feeling so clean and refreshed. $14.95 for 4.4oz, and available in larger sizes from Lush. Herbal Dynamics Beauty - CACAO & CHAMOMILE CLEARING CLAY MASK is a dud for me. It was sent to my by the brand at my choosing because I saw soooo many positive reviews. It has great ingredients, like cacao, chamomile, lavender, clay, and salicylic acid. It smells like chocolate and lavender. Unfortunately, this mask really irritates my skin (redness, burning) and causes my eyes to water profusely. I’ve used it as a full face mask and a spot treatment 2x. Saw no positive effects - I broke out! I’m going to pass this along to one of my sisters since it’s basically full. $24. Would not recommend. Zion Health - Seaweed Clay Mask and Zion Health - Hydrating Mango Clay Mask are newer to my collection. I’m actually not huge on clay masks because they tend to irritate my skin, but these ones are pretty mild and don’t dry down into a hard shell that’s impossible to remove. They were sent to my by the brand. Both of these are aimed at gently detoxing the skin while renewing and (the mango one) hydrating. Neither really have a scent. Both are very thick and easily removed with a warm, damp cloth. My skin is left feeling refreshed and a bit nourished (the mango one because it contains shea butter, not seaweed). They’re around $20 ea. and have a ton of product inside, so I would recommend! I recently finished up a couple vitamin C masks, too!

Zion Health Black Cherry Mask
Zion Health Black Cherry Mask
Zion Health - ADAMA, Black Cherry Mask Product claims: Firming, brightening and hydrating (from adamaminerals.com) Main Ingredients: Black cherry fruit extract, green tea extract and chamomile Texture: soft clay texture Price: $20 – 4oz My Experience: I was skeptical about this mask at first but now I like it😃. The texture is like a soft clay mask. It has an exfoliant texture. Out of the three claims of this product I found this mask to be hydrating💦. I didn't notice much firming or brightening effect but maybe with more use I can judge these claims for my skin type a bit more. However, having dry skin I can take in all the hydration there is. This mask is nice when you want to give your skin some extra care! Would I recommend it ? No😐! I have used other masks that I think have performed better. I will use this mask but it’s not my favorite.

I love clay masks. I have to tell that I am very impressed with these masks. One of the major issue of clay masks is that they tend to take away life from the skin but these didn’t do that. I usually apply the Ancient Clay Acne Mask where I tend to break out a lot. I have noticed that it helps to decreases inflammation, calms and reduces redness caused by the pimples. And I apply the Charcoal face mask on my T Zone where I tend to get too oily. Since it has charcoal in it; it helps to control the oil production and remove the blackheads. I love both the masks but if I had to choose between them I will choose the Ancient Clay Acne Mask because the charcoal face mask is a little difficult to take off.
