🐘First Impressions: n@tural deodorant newbie!
I’ve detoxed aluminum for a couple months now & excited for my first real foray into natural deo!
I have tried Tom's OF MAINE - Fresh Apricot Natural Long Lasting Deodorant a long time ago, but it really didn’t cut it for me when I was a waitress.
I started using:
🌹Dove - Dry Spray Antiperspirant & Deodorant Rose Petals earlier this year... Its my favorite scent of all the Dove Dry Sprays, a pretty elevated Rose scent for a drugstore brand! But, like most antiperspirants, it does contain aluminum.
Old fave:
CLARINS - Gentle Care Roll-On Deodorant This contains aluminum as well, but alcohol free. This was a 5-star product & basically a holy grail product for me for years, but then it suddenly stopped working for me. It made me sweat even more!
It was wildly out of my price range for a deodorant when I discovered it in college. Working across the street from a mall (& on the same block as Sephora😍) led me to spend many lunch breaks trying samples & feeling bougie. Going to Sephora before work to tone, serum, moisturize & do makeup is a story for another day-real broke bitch shit🙋🏻♀️
This deodorant smelled so much better, more fancy & refined than others I’d tried from Walgreens or Target. It had a somewhat liquidy texture that dried pretty quickly, but maybe not fast enough for some people.
Still give it 5⭐️because it was a game changer for me & so effective fort quite a long time- until it wasn’t. I’ve heard of this happening with antiperspirants though?
My first impressions:
DRUNK ELEPHANT - Sweet Pitti Deodorant Cream
Scent:
I wasn’t sure what to expect of the scent, but it’s quite pleasant. Smells sorta sweet like Almond oil🤎
I was really impressed by how it smelled on/off my body, because there’s always a difference...
I can be really stinky at times since I go through a lot of temperature changes due to my condition, causing me to sweat sometimes even in the cold.
Keeps me fresh, but I do need to reapply.
Ingredients:
Instead of aluminum as the 2nd ingredient, like most antiperspirants, Sweet Pitti utilizes DE’s star bodycare ingredient: Almonds!
The AHA, Mandelic Acid, derived from Almonds is both water & oil soluble. This quality that allows it to penetrate & remain effective within the hair follicle. This alpha hydroxy acid is also a great bacteria killer🦠-which is the singular reason why sweat stinks!
⚠️Using any ol’ AHA on your sensitive armpits won’t be a good idea, but Mandelic Acid is milder on skin than Salicylic or Glycolic acids, due to a larger molecule size.
So, while the aluminum present in antiperspirants attempts to prevent sweat by physically blocking your sweat glands, this deodorant uses powder from Arrowroot plant as an absorbent ingredient.
Texture:
Don’t twist too much or too fast with this- can get messy. It’s very creamy, you don’t need much. Doesn’t feel wet for too long & I haven’t noticed any staining on my clothes yet.

The search for an effective clean deodorant 💫
Happy Tuesday! I visited the new Sephora in my town yesterday, and I was so thrilled to see all the new lines they carry! I haven’t been inside a physical Sephora in over a year 😅
I have been eyes the Kosas - Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant In Sport for a while now on the Credo website and when I saw it right in front of me I had to grab it.
I’ve tried a few clean deodorants, like Tom's OF MAINE - Fresh Apricot Natural Long Lasting Deodorant Which works fine but I only use it on days I know I won’t be sweating much
meow meow tweet - Grapefruit Baking Soda Free Deodorant Stick which I was very disappointed by since it honestly stopped zero odor. and I am a sweaty gal!
schmidt's - Jasmine Tea Sensitive Skin Deodorant Stick
THIS is my favorite right now; it smells sooo soothing ( I love tea ) and does the job well, however when heading to the gym I will still opt for a non natural/cleaner deo.
I’ll be fair though, I do lose patience with natural deodorants! I know there is a 2-3 week adjustment period but I am a smelly gal 🙃 i work out every day and I just cannot be walking around smelling rancid for three weeks.
Anyway I am going to use my Kosas sport deo for 2 weeks and we will see how it holds up! 🍊

This Natural Deodorant Left Me Funky
Not to be TMI, but this deodorant left much to be desired. I really wanted to like it, since it came recommended by a few people but it just didn’t do it for me.
I enjoyed the lavender scent, but it didn’t take long for it to wear off. It left me sticky and a bit smelly lol. They do make a version with “natural ingredients” that has aluminum, but I feel like that kind of defeats the purpose of buying natural deodorant.

Hello toothpaste vs Toms toothpaste
What is Fluoride? Is it good for me? What is the Leaping Bunny Logo? What does BPA free mean for packaging? Is BPA recyclable? These are some of the questions I will answer in this post.
Last time I went toothpaste shopping they were out of Tom’s, which I usually use, so instead I got the Hello brand. When I sat down to compile the info to do this review I had an idea of where my vote was going to land and now I find myself wavering on which product I prefer based on not just performance of the toothpaste but also ecological ethics of the company, and of course.. price point. I think they are both good organic toothpastes, it’s simply a matter of what fits your personal needs. I did however want to compile some info on both products and companies because who doesn’t enjoy making informed decisions?
(Also, why is it toothpaste and not teethpaste?)
So let’s get into it and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

What is BPA and is BPA Free actually a good thing?
Bisphenol A, or BPA, is a common building block in resins and some types of plastic. It's what's known as an endocrine disrupting compound. In the body, these chemicals can act like hormones or disrupt normal hormone functions.
“When chemicals are removed from the market, they're often replaced by others that not only
look similar—but act similarly in our bodies.”- National Geographic, 2018
Even though the packaging is BPA free, it doesn’t mean that it is recyclable. food for thought,
What is Fluoride and how does it protect my teeth?
According to the ADA, fluoride is a naturally occurring nutrient found in trace amounts in rivers, lakes, and in some of our foods. This is how teeth build up before they “erupt” or come in through the gums. Once teeth are exposed to “every day wear and tare” added fluoride in water as well as in toothpaste and oral hygiene products help maintain the enamel and prevent cavities. “Like many common substances essential to life and good health - salt, iron, vitamins A and D, chlorine, oxygen and even water itself - fluoride can be toxic in massive quantities.” - Us department of Health and Human Services
Leaping Bunny Certified:
The Leaping Bunny Logo is the only internationally recognized symbol guaranteeing consumers that no new animal tests were used in the development of any product displaying it. The Logo can be seen on packaging, advertising, and websites for cosmetics and household products around the world.
What is Hydrated Silica?
Hydrated silica is naturally derived from silica (silicon dioxide), an abundant compound that forms about 12% of the earth's surface. Depending on the specific material and formulation, hydrated silica can be used as a thickener for gel toothpaste, a mild abrasive for cleaning or as a whitening agent in toothpaste. Hs has a long history of safe use as an ingredient in food products. It is listed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to be Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS).
Tom's OF MAINE-Antiplaque & Whitening, Fluoride-Free Toothpaste, Spearmint Gel
Bought this to make the switch over to natural deodorant and honestly I thoroughly enjoyed this! Not only was it affordable but it didn’t give me a rash in my underarms like other natural brands! I did have to reapply but otherwise I’d repurchase again
