Trending Super Ingredient: Bakuchiol
Though I’ve worked really hard to get back my clear skin, after having head-to-toe eczema, I still struggle with stubborn milia that pops up wherever it pleases, from my lips to my eyes. After trying many exfoliants and serums, the only solution for me is botanical retinol. Yes botanical. Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are great anti-aging and anti-breakout ingredients. As great as retinol is, it has some downsides, like being unstable when exposed to UV light, which could contribute to skin sensitivity and irritation. The last thing we need! Botanical retinol, such as bakuchiol which comes from the Babchi herb, is both effective and stable, and can even be safely worn during the day and/or with other products! The lack of irritating side effects also makes it useful for sensitive and dry skin. It’s beneficial for anti-aging, as it helps boost collagen production, and is anti-inflammatory antioxidant. I’ve noticed my smile lines fill out since using GRAYDON - Fullmoon Serum which contains another botanical retinol alternative derived from Moth bean, which I’ve mentioned in previous posts. For breakouts, my go-to is the GRAYDON - Green Cream as the bakuchiol is anti-microbial helping alleviate oily and acne prone skin. It’s a light cream that absorbs quite well into the skin. I like to use it at night as my last skin routine step, as a spot treatment on any breakouts and milia. I’ve noticed that after a few weeks of continuous use, the once stubborn milia begins to scab and then naturally falls off. The scaring doesn’t last long as the retinol alternative quickly turns over the skin cells, making my skin appear like nothing happened ✨ *Green Cream has now been renamed to Phyto Clear, but it’s gonna take a while for me to get through this bottle as a little goes a very long way! But I’ll definitely be buying the rebranded version if I still have similar skin concerns then. #CheriePartner

My Favourite Serums
It all started with the Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration , which was a gateway for me into luxury serums. With its gel like texture that would just hug the skin so well and soothe my dryish, eczema-prone skin. Then I came across sahajan - Radiance Face Serum which is even a little more expensive than the former. I like that it comes with both a hydration component (water) & moisturizing, nourishing component (oil). So it’s great for the summer as a light moisturizer to get dewy skin & great in the winter for layering on to protect the skin. Finally, myself and GRAYDON - Fullmoon Serum were acquainted through the brand’s gift in return for a video. It’s even more expensive, so I tried to stay away from it. But it does contain a cocktail of goodness, like moth bean (botanical retinol alternative), vitamin C, on top of the hydration. The textures pictured here are of the last 2 since the 1st one is an empty. #CheriePartner

Hemp Oil: great for body AND face 🌿
Hemp oil has been so good to my combination, eczema-prone skin 😍 Hemp oil is a carrier oil that normally constitutes the majority of the product concentration. A part of Cannabis sativa, it is therapeutic to the skin. Containing nutrients like omega rich fatty acids and proteins, its topical use is found to strengthen the skin and more resistant to infection - sounds like a win/win to maintain eczema! It’s nourishing for the face AND smooths out the skin on the rest of your body. I found out about this ingredient when I started frequenting marijuana shops about 4 years ago. I noticed that there was a whole moisturizer line with the name “Hemp” in it. As tempted as I was to try this, I stayed off trying any of it because when I read the ingredients it contained fragrance 🤬 Fast forward to December when I started working in another clean beauty shop where Graydon plant powered skincare is sold and as I learned more about the products and ingredients, I couldn’t help myself but to try... and months later, using hemp oil in my products from face to whole body, no regrets! Face GRAYDON - The Putty Y’all know I love this. It soothes eczema and any irritation quite well. Very nourishing and protective for the dry winter. Leaves a smooth face. Body & hair tbh GRAYDON - Intimacy Oil Ugh I love this too. & no it’s not what you think! 🤪 At $50CAD/ 100mL, I tried not to buy this for the longest of time, but honestly every time I sampled it I fell deeper and deeper in love. Even before dampening the skin, this oil absorbs quite quickly and does not leave a sticky feeling on the skin which is a great incentive to use this as a form of moisturizing dry skin more often. Ash be gone! It’s so nourishing that I even use it on my hair on wash day as it adds a nice sheen. I also really admire its serene scent.

My Skincare Awards 🏆 Moisturizer Edition
Finding a good moisturizer for eczema and milia prone sensitive skin is key! Over the years, my skin type has ranged from oily to dry to combination. Here’s my selection from favourite to least favourite: 1. GRAYDON - The Putty This is a moisturizer that has really come through for me, specifically during the eczema days 👏🏽 Scent: oatmealish Price: $46 CAD/50mL I gave this product a try after receiving for free at work, I found it a little thick for the face at first so I mostly used it on my neck, where I had eczema. With ingredients like zinc, colloidal oatmeal, hemp seed oil, manuka honey, turmeric, it’s meant to be soothing for irritated skin... and it proved to be so, I’m glad it fell into my hands 💝 I really admired what it did for my neck that I started using it on my face too *over damp skin* so it would absorb better, and it kept my face moisturizer and protected during the cold winter. I’ve repurchased this in a FULL SIZE quantity and recommended it to friends ✨ 2. sahajan - Nourish Face Cream This is great for everyday use, under makeup too. Scent: mature lotion Price: $60 CAD/50mL I also got this for free at work and was excited to try it as I really admire the premise behind this Ayurvedic brand. Though after a few months, the cream’s texture goes from silky smooth to a bit hardened with some crunchier bits, once it melts in your palms it makes for a nice application that mattifies the skin. Great before applying makeup or just having fresh, semi-glowing skin. I apply it on over damp skin as well. Although it contains coconut oil, I find that it doesn’t break me out. I’ve definitely recommended this to my friends and will probably be repurchasing this once the winter comes around. 3. wildcraft - Bergamot Rose Face Cream This was one of the first moisturizer I remember investing in once I discovered Hyaluronic acid and needed something for the eczema on my face. Scent: ylang ylang Price: $26 CAD/60mL This is a little more on the greasy side, but at the time I found it quite nourishing for my dry, flakey skin. However, after using it almost daily for a few months is when I started noticing milia starting to form on my face, so I questioned whether this moisturizer was too rich for my skin. I’ve been using it less frequently since just wanting to use it up but also not wanting to chance it anymore, so I might finish it off as a body butter 🥴 I purchased this 3 times, but won’t be repurchasing it again since finding the 2 aforementioned moisturizers that I prefer more! Won’t be recommending this to friends anymore unless they want an affordable option. What’s your favourite moisturizer?!

10 min Makeup - Quick Morning Transformation🧚🏽
I’m technically working from home again. I spent the last couple of weeks working in film production, so I didn’t even have a chance to do anything for myself since ~16 hrs of my day were focused on getting to/from work & being present there. Now that I’m home more, it’s important for me to still treat myself like I’m going somewhere... because I am towards my destiny, finding a way to turn my passion into a career 😅 and it’s nice to look “nice, presentable” or whatever for yourself, even at home... if we’ve learned anything during quarantine, amirite? So here’s what I look like waking up to what a few mins of tending to myself with products looks like ✨ It’s not a huge change, but it definitely perks me up! Also before anyone starts, glasses are cute AF but sometimes I feel like they hide my face, especially in photos! ... even though that’s the reason I got rimless glasses 🤣 Anyways, I started by undoing my overnight braids with a little bit of the GRAYDON - Intimacy Oil on my fingers to “lubricate” the hair strands and give em a little sheen. Then I started my face off with some Glossier. - Haloscope Dew Effect Highlighter in Topaz and Glossier. - Niteshine Highlighter Concentrate in Copper (I like to use this as a bronzer, slight contour) I used the ĀETHER BEAUTY - Crystal Charged Cheek Palette as both highlighter, blush AND the main eyeshadow to brighten my lids. Speaking of eyeshadow, MISMACK - Large ART Shadow in 'Shade' and Pure Anada - Grape Pressed Eye in Espresso we’re used for definition. Then I finished my upper face with Milk MAKEUP - KUSH High Volume Mascara and Milk MAKEUP - KUSH Fiber Brow Gel . To both add a little pigment and hydrate my lips, I used my fave lip balm Kosas - Kosasport Lipfuel in Pulse.

Amazing Wash Day #CheriePartner
I went swimming in the lake yesterday and though I was sleepy coming back, I ended up mastering the strength to wash my hair at 2 am 😂 Using these products, followed by doing a twist out did amazing things for my hair! I usually can’t predict what a twist out will do, as the result looks different every time but I’m so pleased with how it looks today especially because usually on the first day after wash day it’s a bit funny looking but this time it’s luscious and elegant! I washed with Pure Anada - Shampoo - Peppermint Rosemary and a few drops of tea trees oil in warmer water, then calia - Organic Intensive Conditioner in colder water, and finished the wash with Pure Anada - Conditioner - Peppermint Rosemary in cold water too. It was a good, detangling my thoughts kind of wash. After allowing the towel to gently soak in the excess water, I rubbed the GRAYDON - Intimacy Oil throughput my hair and brushed it. I then separated my hair, and did about 8 braids. In the morning, before taking out the twist out, I applied some Dahaab natural care - Glow Body Butter on the tips of my hair and then over the braids. I realize I especially like how this oil feels on my hair because after taking the braids out, my hair was lustrous 💎

A combo I wouldn’t go without for dry skin
For mornings that I want to keep my skincare steps to a minimum, I stick with this hydrating, protective, repairing combo of Face food mineral mist & Repair booster oil. GRAYDON - Face Food Mineral Mist is not just any kind of toner, as with minerals such as Zinc, Copper, Magnesium it serves to protect the face from elements & pollutants. Bonus points for the gentle vanilla extract, which smells heavenly and is also good for the skin! PUUR Ingrid - Repair Booster is a nice light oil, containing collagen-promoting Squalane + a green tea antioxidant, repairs the skin cells. It technically falls under the “anti-aging” category; however, if you’re prone to super dry skin or even recovering from dermatitis, this comes in handy. This not only leaves my skin baby smooth, but also has a scent that reminds me of baby oil, which I personally like. I love pairing these two together, as spraying the toner dampens the skin, which then allows the oil to penetrate the skin better. If you want to keep your routine simple and you have dry/aging/sensitive skin or just desire an upkeep for normal, healthier skin... this is the one!

My Eczema Solutions
Restocking on empties of my recent favourites that I’ve been using since February. At first I was only using them on my face, but as I had a developing eczema rash since January, I was ready to try anything. Since the Face Food mist (hydrating, anti-pollution toner) is packed with anti-inflammatory, collagen-enhancing minerals (silver, copper, zinc, magnesium) & the Putty (pUH-tee 😜) pomade contains soothing colloidal oatmeal and restorative ingredients (honey, turmeric, zinc, hemp oil), I realized the results would be quite obvious. After all, these two products from a clinically-proven superfood Canadian skincare line have been beneficial for dry and inflammatory faces. Besides your skincare is encouraged to be applied onto your neck too... ✨ which I never previously considered much. So look at the results after about 3 weeks of use, starting near the end of March (my neck looked like it did in February, but a bit worse throughout most of March, so I just didn’t focus on taking “progress” pics because I was hopeless with the eczema.) Within a few days of mixing the two products in my palm first and then applying on my neck for better absorption, I noticed that, unlike other eczema balms, I only needed to apply the mixture on twice a day, morning and night, that’s how moisturizing it is at a CELLULAR level! I have fallen in love with this stuff, it also smells great (FF: vanilla, P: cream oats,) so I decided to get the big sized bottles after my empties, and the cool thing is I get to reuse my Face Food mist bottle (bonus sustainability point). Although, the airless pump may be hard to recycle conventionally, you can always submit your beauty product empties to Terracycle!♻️ And as for eczema, I just want to say that its pathological root cause is very complex for each individual. I’m still figuring mine out, but I’m pretty sure it’s nutrition & stress related. So I look up to skincare as a maintenance practice, that keeps my skin relatively healthy, while I’m figuring out the other pieces of the puzzle. 💝 Stay tuned for how I clear up the scars + hyperpigmentation, this isn’t the first time I’ve dealt with this! Are Luxury Serums Worth It?
Everyone has a different priority when it comes to what they’re willing to spend some serious ca$h on for good quality. For some it’s cars, for some it’s shoes, for me it’s pretty much anything I consume, whether it’s food or skincare. Now this does not mean that I prefer to cash out on skincare, but since I am into clean beauty, it often happens to be more on the pricey side. When is it worth it? I personally think it depends on the source and processing of ingredients, rarity, and the brand’s vision. Hydration-based Serums I learned this about a year ago: when it comes to hydration-based serums, such as Hyaluronic acid, it’s best not to cheap out. I’ve started of with the $65 HA serum and it ruined my experience with an $8 serum and even a $32 serum. The two cheaper ones just didn’t compare, even though I was really hoping they would do it for me so I could save some coin. The texture of the cheaper ones wasn’t as plumping and it didn’t seem to be doing much for my skin. It was a mere experience of applying something on the skin 🥱 Overall, I find that the more expensive HA serums I gravitate to are usually more trustworthy and effective because their process entails thorough clinical studies. Recently I had the opportunity to try the GRAYDON - Fullmoon Serum 🎁 with key ingredients: moth bean (botanical retinol alternative), moringa (vitamin C), senna (vegan hyaluronic acid), malachite (support skin exposed to pollution). I was hesitating to get it for a while because it retails at $87 CAD, but then I was sent it for free from Graydon Skincare itself in return for a lil routine vid. Would I buy it again? Well, considering its light textured, non-irritating formula has helped me remove some of the persistent milia on my skin, while fading the occasional breakout scars after a couple of days, and smoothing over my smile lines... I am a big fan. So yes, I’d actually buy this luxury product. But I’m always on the lookout for a discount, so I could at least find a 15% off coupon code somewhere! Oil-based Serums For this one, I honestly feel like unless the oil itself is hard to extract and is a rare commodity, like plain organic jojoba oil, OR has extremely apparent healing benefits, there’s no need to empty out your whole purse on the counter! I probably feel this way because there are tons of face oils on the market. As long as I can find a non-greasy, nourishing oil, I’m content. Would I purchase GRAYDON - Superfood Serum 🎁 with key ingredients: saffron (stem cell extract), raspberry seed oil (Linoleic acid), sacha inchi (Omega rich essential fatty acids), turmeric? Well, I’m not in love with the scent, as it’s a bit bitter, but the texture of the oil is dense enough yet not sticky and absorbs so well on top of the Fullmoon Serum. Though it leaves my skin feeling smooth, I’m just not in a place in my life where complex oil-based formulas are that important to me. PeepThePackageLabeling😍

GRAYDON - Fullmoon Serum This serum is not only stunning to look at and reasonably priced it also has amazing ingredients that don’t irritate even sensitive skin. It is a hyaluronic acid based serum so it’s consistency is light and moisturizing but it’s still has retinol derived from moth bean and collagen to really plump up the skin and provide an array of actives. One of my favorite finds so far of 2020! I think it would work for any skin type as a first serum to apply given its light weight and absorbency.

The Perfect “No-Makeup” Makeup Product
I’m not really one for foundation. I usually use a very light foundation if I do wear some — i.e. The Ordinary’s serum foundation. I’m unfortunately a “face toucher” so I can’t be bothered with face make up very often. I usually slap on concealer and bronzer in terms of face make up. With that being said, I’ve been loving the Graydon products I currently have and when I saw that they had a tinted moisturizer primer I had to try it. I read so many good reviews! GRAYDON - Face Glow For 40 mL this cost $24 CAD. I find I only use a tiny bit so the 40 mLs will last me a while. 🍁(PS it’s on sale. Regularly priced at $46 CAD)🍁 After my skincare I’ll pop this onto my face like I would any normal moisturizer. I use such a small amount and find it blends in beautifully. You can use a sponge or a brush but I’m lazy so I just use my fingers lol. This is perfect for a “no makeup” makeup look. The tint is gorgeous and gives me a healthy glow/complexion. Your skin looks radiant without looking like you’re wearing anything! I think it could work on most skin tones if you also wanted to just apply it as a highlight to your cheek bones or brow bones, or even under makeup as an actual primer. My concealer sits nicely over top of this and doesn’t cake or crease :) And with my bronzer I get a nice sun-kissed glow. I haven’t noticed any break outs, which is always good! 👌🏻 Haha! Why It’s Amazing: + It firms skin and improves elasticity with semi-precious smithsonite +Your skin glows with mineral-rich sustainably sourced mica +It brightens your complexion with ellagic acid rich raspberry seed oil +It minimizes the appearance of dark circles and spots with nutrient rich spirulina +It soothes your skin with aloe vera juice and zinc-rich pumpkin seed oil +It renews your look with skin nurturing sea buckthorn seed oil +It shields your face against the elements with non-nano zinc +It protects your skin from environmental stressors with rich buriti oil 100% recommend ❤️

Valentina’s Introduction
Valentina’s Introduction
Hey lovelies, I’m so excited to be here, a social media app for skincare - whaaaat a dream come true! 💫 My personal skincare journey began when I started getting eczema on my neck, face, arms, legs in university, which I graduated with a BScience. I knew about the risks of using topical steroids, so I’ve been adamant on finding holistic ways to treat my case of eczema by first understanding the root cause. It’s a complex journey, as I’ve come to understand that there are different causes for eczema, such as stress, nutrition deficiencies, allergies, genetics, etc. So I began looking into skincare to find ways to manage my skin health while figuring out my entire health 🤪 Growing up with sensitive skin, I stayed away from most beauty products to avoid getting adverse reactions from certain synthetic ingredients... until I started looking into the benefits of clean, plant-based ingredients. And I make sure to look out for greenwashing! 🤓 I’ve since found that when I use the right ingredients, my skin actually thanks me. I now also look at skincare as part of self care rituals that our ancestors took on for many generations. In the past couple years, my passion has been focused on working out a skincare formula to soothe eczema-related rashes and infections. In the meanwhile, I’ve started working at a conscious, ethical beauty studio, Portia-Ella that carries ~40 Canadian brands, mostly led by women. I love working with our empowering team, which fuels my growth/self-development. We get a lot of training on ingredients and interact with various skin types, so I’m always happy to help! 🥰 In these photos, from Valentine’s Day, I’m holding some of my favourite skincare products of all-time, which you can find at Portia-Ella (online too.) I’ll be reviewing them in future posts 🤩 What’s your current skincare obsession? 🙌🏽 GRAYDON - The Putty WOODLOT - Nourishing Cleansing Balm GRAYDON - Face Food Mineral Mist Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration

My Top 3 Products for “Healing” Eczema
My Top 3 Products for “Healing” Eczema
The truth is healing eczema isn’t as simple as applying on creams and ointments, alone. It’s a whole process, from stress management to better nutrient intake to looking into underlying conditions, like thyroid issues. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t find the right skincare to manage eczema. Over the years, I’ve tried various products and topical remedies, and though it can be tricky to sift through all the right formulas... I have finally found the right ones for me! Hydrate with Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration which contains hydration-boosting propanediol, hyaluronic acid, pro vitamin B5 and promoting collagen, making the skin more firm. This really helped me with dry patches on my face, I don’t get those anymore! 💦 Moisturize & Soothe with GRAYDON - The Putty which contains restorative ingredients, such as zinc, hemp oil, turmeric, manuka honey. It’s so soothing, I noticed changes within a few days and only needed to apply it twice a day vs some other eczema solutions that require constant reapplication due to excessive dryness. 🤗 Sanitize & Repair with purO3 - Ozonated Olive Oil which is a One ingredient powerhouse. Honestly this is my holy grail y’all! The only reason it’s a 4 ⭐️ is due to the strong scent, which my partner doesn’t enjoy sleeping next to when I use it 😅 but ozonated oil is honestly the one for stopping skin infections, like Staphylococcus aureus in its tracks, and on top of that, repairing the skin so the S. aureus doesn’t repenetrate the skin. I’ve been using this one for years! 🙏🏽 What are some of your favourite eczema solutions? 💞
