Congested skin - just finished accutane!
Hi all! I’ve had acne my WHOLE life. I’ve always had super oily skin. It used to be much worse, but now it’s not as intense. I’ve had my fair share of hormonal breakouts, blackheads, and cystic acne. You name it, I’ve had it. I just finished accutane, which didn’t do much. That being said, my main issue is CONGESTION. I cannot achieve smooth skin for the life of me. Microdermabrasion didn’t do anything for my skin. I’ve just started using HOLI FROG - Shasta AHA Refining Acid Washas my face wash. Additionally, I’ve been using The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane I recently decided to try The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solutionand DERMA•E - Vitamin C Renewing Moisturizer I’ve used retinol topicals. I even went for microneedling. What am I missing? Oh, and I just bought The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Who can help me clear this congestion?

Holifrog Shasta
HOLI FROG - Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash Finally, my first post on here! I love this cleanser so much, I don’t know of any other cleanser just like it. I love non-foaming cleansers for my dry skin and though there are lots in the market, this one has AHA which is the best type of chemical exfoliant for dry skin. This is such a gentle, hydrating way to exfoliate, I can use it every other day with no problems, while I can barely use a physical exfoliant once a week. There is no irritating fragrance so most would probably say they don’t like the way it smells, but I don’t mind it at all. This is a definite repurchase for me.

My Current AM Routine
I feel like my routine is always changing due to purchasing new products to try and review, however here is my current AM routine. HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash (fragrence free) I've only just recently started using this, but I will say I like this one. I find it similar to LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser Holifrog is a little more hydrating since it feels like a lotion than a cleanser. The La Roche cleanser is a good dupe if you need something a little cheaper and at the convince stores. If you have dry skin I highly recommend Holifrog, but if you have normal to oily skin and are just experiencing some sensitivity (like your skin barrier) then I would go with La Roche. COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence (fragrence free) I really enjoy this product because I feel like I am getting a good size value for the price. It also doesn't feel any different than any other HA essence or serum that I've tried (one being a very expensive one). Krave - Great Barrier Relief (fragrence free) This guy is definitely my holy Grail and I have reviewed it before. I use it daily due to my dry skin, but if you have normal to oily skin I definitely recommend having this on hand especially if you like to try new products and if it possibly irritates you or if you over do actives. PETER THOMAS ROTH - Potent-C Vitamin C Power Serum (fragrence free) I've also done a review already on this one. It is very potent and has a stable form of vit C, however unless you are trying to severely even out skin tone or remove dark spots, I would not spend the money. It is definitely pricey (almost $100). If you really need the potency of this product, then go ahead. Otherwise if you are just looking to fix minor issues/use it to go along with your spf, I'd go with a cheaper (still stable) product likeTHE inkey LIST - Vitamin C Serum 30ml(I have not personally tried this inkey list product, but have heard good things about it's ingredients as well as being a reasonable price) FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream (fragrence free) I am really enjoying this new product. It is a step up fromCeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream which I also love for the simplicity and price value, but this one has even more soothing ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal. I like to use this in the morning because it doesn't make my face overly shiny before I head out the door and it also goes well under make up (with a primer of course) #Deoproce - Hyaluronic Cooling Sun Gel spf 50[products]#[FourStars] (NOT fragrence free) I just recently bought this sunscreen and it is my first Korean spf. I love how easily it goes on and it gives me enough glow without looking greasy. My complaint would be that it's not fragrence free, but I'm happy it got me started. Next I'll likely try Krave - The Beet ShieldorTHANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream

Next on my list to review....
Here's my latest skin haul awaiting to arrive in the mail. I'll be trying and reviewing to give you my truthful opinion on how these work for me and why I think they are (or are not) a good product. Have you personally tried any of these? Sound off in the comments your thoughts. Give me time to get through each of these products since I'll be trying them out for atleast a week at a time.

Skincare 101: Double-Cleansing
Bar soaps and scrubs have been phased out of popularity, replaced with cleansers that use gentler sulfates than potentially-problematic SLS/SLES and double-cleansing has seen a rise. Grime, layers of sunscreen, heavy makeup... I recommend double-cleansing if you apply more than one layer of sunscreen or wear makeup, it’s helped so much with my own congestion/blackheads! Wash twice with a water-based cleanser if you prefer to be utilitarian, or try a micellar water if you don’t like oil textures. • 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲: For me, traditional double-cleansing is the way to go. Oil-based cleansers easily break down stubborn makeup like waterproof mascara and I’m careful to avoid sensitizing essential oils. My top pick for quality to quantity to cost? THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm . $10 for 150mL of a sensitive skin-friendly balm is hard to beat! Another good budget option is The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser , $7.90 for 50mL or $19.90 for 150mL. Its thick texture takes a bit more work to emulsify and rinse away, but gets the job done. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser is a great balm that I love for its easy emulsification and quick rinse, though it’s a bit more pricy- $34 for 110g. Harder to swallow the cost when you rinse it after just a minute of it on your skin, but it emulsifies so well and rinses clean easily. HOLI FROG - Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash is also kinda pricy, $42 for 74mL. It is hard to emulsify, but leaves my skin as soft as if I had moisturized after rinsing, making it luscious but hard to justify. • 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲: For my 2nd Cleanse, I reach for a water-based cleanser with a pH of 4-7 and hydrating humectants. I avoid essential oils and fragrance. My absolute favourite 2nd Cleanse is rPAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser ($19 per 190mL, pH 6.2-7), a silky cream-to-foam that removes any 1st Cleanse residue without stripping skin. Another gentle and effective cleanser is the HOLI FROG - Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash ($36 per 150mL, pH 5.5). Both are great for any skin type, esp. drier skin! Oily/combo skin types will enjoy the deep-cleansing, strongly lathering gels of rCeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin ($11 per 355mL, pH 5.5) and #Drunk Elephant - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser[products]#[FourStars] ($32 per 150mL, pH 5.5). I wouldn’t use them more than once per day since they can leave skin feeling tight if overused. How To Use A Balm Cleanser: 1. Dispense balm onto dry, clean palms. 2. Massage balm onto dry, uncleansed skin, for as long as you like. I wouldn’t go over a minute since you’ll be massaging your skin more in a sec... 3. Wet hands. 4. Emulsify the product on your face using a small amount of water, massaging until it is almost like a lather. 5. Rinse face. 6. Repeat steps 4 + 5 until your face feels clean and soft, with no visible milkiness/lather.

Holifrog where have you been my whole life!
I have been wanting to try Holifrog for forever as it took over my feed this summer. I finally caved and purchased 2 of their cleansers and desperately need to try more! ⠀ Here’s the low down: 🍁 Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash: This cleanser is directed towards those who have oily/oily-combination skin or just when your skin need a a deep clean. I don’t have oily skin but i do like to use this cleanser whenever I’m wearing makeup. I wear a lot of makeup maybe 1-2 times a month. When i do I like to go in a deep clean mode because my skin reacts so quickly to a full face of makeup now that it’s not used to it. I loved this cleanser cause it didn’t dry my skin out but still made it feel well cleansed. PH of 5.4 & Retails for $36 HOLI FROG - Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash ⠀ 🍁 Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balm: this cleanser is a waterless cleanser that restores and softens your skin. I love using this as a first cleanse to remove my makeup, sunscreen, ect. I find that it doesn’t leave a film on my skin which is one thing that I look for in a first cleanse. Definitely going to be repurchasing. Retails for $42 HOLI FROG - Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash ⠀ ⠀ Have you tried @holifrog cleansers?! If so which is your favorite? ⠀ I definitely want to try their tashmoo water lily nourishing milky wash as I have normal-combination skin so that would be better for me to use as an everyday cleanser. ⠀

Scrub Smarter, Not Harder 🐸
𝔻𝕠𝕟’𝕥 𝕤𝕔𝕣𝕦𝕓 𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕖𝕣 - 𝕤𝕔𝕣𝕦𝕓 𝕤𝕞𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕖𝕣 🐸 That’s the Holifrog motto & I stand by it! I wanted to showcase an exfoliator that I have been thoroughly enjoying, as well as my fiancé - to the point where I have to selfishly hide it! 🤣 I have two of Holifrog’s situational cleansers (Tashmoo & Shasta) and that is where my love for the brand started. I love that they put so much care & thought into their formulas - making them effective, yet gentle. They give your skin just what it needs without being too much or underwhelming. Now first impressions - when I first felt the texture of this exfoliator, I was honestly shocked! It has a rough, gritty texture. Being that the texture is so gritty, it directed me into applying it in a more gentler approach, letting the exfoliator do the work, rather than me. I love letting this exfoliator sit on the skin for a few extra minutes, allowing the antioxidants and vitamin C to seep into the skin. Not only does it remove unwanted dead skin cells, but the ingredients help plump your complexion, rehabilitate irritated / damaged skin, and it is suitable for all skin types including acne prone & sensitive! 💚 You can find this incredible exfoliator directly on Holifrog’s website as well as their affiliated partners such as Beautylish & Dermstore! Physical vs Chemical Exfoliation
🩸 As someone who struggles with occasional breakouts and hyperpigmentation, exfoliation is one of my favorite skincare steps. 🩸 I tend to prefer chemical exfoliation over physical because it’s gentler on the skin and creates more long lasting results such as stimulating collagen production in the skin and reducing impaction of pores. Physical exfoliants also can potentially spread bacteria if you are breaking out. 🩸I typically use a chemical exfoliant toner every other evening and do a stronger chemical exfoliant peel once every 1-2 weeks. This has helped so much with minimizing my uneven skin tone, pore size, texture, scarring, and giving my skin a glow.

My Latest Favourites!
I have sensitive combo skin and a love of skincare that surpasses the amount of skin I have- I love trying new products! I’ve been testing some newer serums, typically applied thinnest to thickest after I cleanse and before a moisturizer. Here are my current favourites: • *HOLI FROG - Galilee Antioxidant Dewy Drop is amazing for general hydration, though I love to see the antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory Azelaic Acid in it! A slew of antioxidants like CoQ10, azelaic acid, alpha-lipoic acid, honeysuckle flower extract, green tea leaf extract, and vitamin E make this a powerhouse for fighting environmental aggressors that agitate/age skin! But $52 USD is steep for 30mL, so I’m not sure this is “worth the money” for most folks. • NATURIUM - Hyaluronic Acid Essence 2% is fantastic and I recommend it to those that struggle with dehydration or want an extra boost of hydration with autumn/winter coming along! It’s incredibly lightweight, perfect for patting onto damp skin post-cleanse and before other serums. $16 USD for 170mL is perfect, making this humectant-packed serum 100% worth it imo. • NATURIUM - Alpha Arbutin Serum 2% costs $20 USD for 30mL and I can’t recommend it enough for those that suffer from uneven skin tone, melasma, and/or hyperpigmentation! Alpha arbutin is molecularly similar to hydroquinone and works similarly, interrupting melanin synthesis to lighten dark spots and even skin tone. Naturium formulates it alongside niacinamide (great for soothing skin) and a variety of humectants. I love alpha arbutin for fading my dark spots. • Apostrophe - 0.05% Tretinoin + 4% Niacinamide Lotion | ★★★★★ is formulated around the gold-star ingredient for anti-aging: prescription retinoid! They include some simple emollients to create a spreadable lotion, as well as niacinamide, a wonderfully multifaceted ingredient that helps with acne, skin tone, and oil production. This silky serum-lotion is amazing- little to no irritation as my skin adjusted to tret, reduction in acne (before COVID maskne and stress hit), and a noticeable smoothing of the few fine lines that had been growing on my forehead and around my mouth. It costs $90 to fill my prescription but the tube has lasted me since June 1st (using it three times per week) and while it’s feeling very light, it’s still pumping out product. Apostrophe cites the bottle as lasting about 3 months with nightly use, making the cost for their recommended use $30 per month- not bad for zero insurance prescription retinoid access! • *By Wishtrend - Polyphenols in Propolis 15% Ampoule is an interesting serum that targets inflammation, irritation, and dehydration. Polyphenols and the variety of extracts included help to minimize redness as well as lessen the intensity of inflammatory acne. $32 USD for 30mL makes this a small splurge but I think it could benefit those with sensitive and/or dry skin. *gifted #CheriePartner

Let’s Get Situational
These babies are so precious to me! Tashmoo and I have a love affair every morning! She nourishes my skin, smells like raspberries (maybe), and looks so pretty on my sink. Superior is my go to for daily washing as she is incredibly gentle but cleanses like a powerful wash. She is my rock. Kissimmee softly melts away the day of makeup and hugs my skin while doing it. She is so pretty with her frog packaging and I love giving her a squish at the end of the day. Shasta is my girl for a good time. When my face needs a kick in the pants, she washes away very well and really gets the grime out of my skin for me. We hang out a couple times a week. Happy V Day my beautiful people! Crowning my favorite cleanser
Crowning my favorite cleanser
After a few weeks of alternating their cleansers I think I’ve crowned my favorite from Holifrog! Shasta to me is the most unique in that it has AHAs but is still hydrating and not stripping at ALL! That’s a hard combination to achieve! Have you picked a favorite from this brand yet? I find all of them to be incredibly gentle with no stripping sulfates but I like the additional exfoliating properties of this one with the AHAS.

Currently I am sitting outside
Currently I am sitting outside and drinking green tea waiting for night time to come so that I can use my cleansers!! Recently I’ve been trying out the @holifrog cleansers and they have been reacting great with my skin! I haven’t used the gel cleanser much yet but I’ve been using Tashmoo like crazy. It is very light and creamy. I once read on the @holifrog page that it’s “like a big, silky blanket of a hug for your face” and let me tell you they are not wrong! 🥰 I love the very slight scent, and the milky texture. Usually I’m not one to cleanse in the morning (unless I feel the need to) but lately I have been. Tashmoo never leaves my skin feeling tight or dried out. It’s truly the perfect wash for a sensitive, dry skinned gal like myself.❤️ Once I use the other cleansers more I will come back with reviews! Until then I will be in cleanser heaven✨✨HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash

HoliFrog is my Holi-Grail!
HoliFrog is my Holi-Grail!
What is there to say about HoliFrog? 🐸 Only that they’ve become my Holi-Grail of cleansers since I’ve first gotten my hands on them! 💓 I can’t imagine that you HAVEN’T heard of HoliFrog by now as these cleansers have basically taken over everyone’s Instagram feeds in recent months! HoliFrog is all about situational cleansing and all of the cleansers maintain a pH between 4.0 - 5.5 and have no discernible scent- meaning that these cleansers all all meant for ALL SKIN TYPES! What’s the difference between them, then? Each is used for a specific situation or based on what your skin needs at that particular moment. Let’s talk a little bit about each of them… Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash🌸: This is a light milky wash. It’s very nourishing and conditioning. It’s great for when your skin is feeling stressed out or if it’s feeling extra sensitive from retinols or other more intensive skin treatments. Calling all my sensitive-skinned babes! Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash: I’m not going to lie to you - Shasta might just be my favorite little frog! 🐸 Shasta contains 5% AHAs to exfoliate the skin as well as clean and clear pores to reveal smooth, glassy skin. This tends to be my go-to morning wash (if my skin isn’t sensitive from my nighttime treatments) as it leaves my skin shiny and glowing to start the day! Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash: Y’all! This is your first makeup removing cleansing balm in a tube! No more scraping your cleaning balm out of a tub! 🙌🏻 And this stuff means business too! It repairs and hydrates skin while washing away all of your makeup, SPF, sebum and pollution from the day! This is the perfect first step in your double-cleanse! Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash: This is your everyday foaming gel cleanser, really meant for any and every situation. This is the wash that I keep in my shower 🚿 as it is a great catch-all cleanser! It’s also a great second-step in your double-cleanse! These cleansers have been one of my favorite additions to my skincare routine over the past few months. HoliFrog has a new release coming out in about 3 weeks and I’m on pins and needles! If this next release is anywhere as good as these four little frogs, I’ll be one of the first in line! 😍 HOLI FROG - Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash HOLI FROG - Superior Omega Nutritive Gel Wash HOLI FROG - Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash
