Wasn’t expecting this to work so well 🥺
As a woman of color, hyperpigmentation can be such a pain in the ass 🙄. it typically takes months to get rid of. i was using retinoids & chemical exfoliants to help with a lot of this. see, the problem was, that it was further sensitizing my already sensitive skin, and that irritated inflamed skin made me even more prone to further scarring & hyperpigmentation. when i was looking at the ingredient list for the cocokind - Turmeric stick i decided to give it a try. it’s organic & since tumeric is one of the only things that gets rid of my hyperpigmentation without damaging my skin’s moisture barrier; i thought i’d take a shot in the dark. after using this for 2 weeks, i’ve decided that love it 🤩. the hyperpigmentation that I’ve been dealing with since late august is fading quite quickly and I don’t even have to worry about purging!!! was NOT expecting that. the ginger gives this a bit of a gritty texture so make sure you’re very gentle on patches of drier skin & inflamed acne. i recommend applying after your moisturizer/ at the end of your skincare routine in a twisting motion, the way you would a screwdriver for an easier, gentler glide on. using the corners of the stick help for a gentler application as well. in addition to this, the tea tree oil & ginger in this mask stick has cleared a great deal of the little white heads on my face, and has calmed my inflamed acne really well too. when i oil cleanse now, the whiteheads fall right out!! I really wasn’t expecting it to work as well as it did! 🥺 you can keep this mask on for about 20 mins and then rinse, or wear it overnight (which is what i prefer to do). I keep it in my purse everyday for on the go but also use it to slightly color correct my dark spots when im out with no makeup. I have fallen in love with the results that i’ve seen from this product in so little & now want everything from this line!! this one is totally black/brown girl approved !!

Cocokind Rocks!!!
These are two pictures I think best show my skin and the condition its in right now, if youd like to see how it used to look you should check out some of my other posts(: Ive started using some new products from CocoKind because Ive been interested in new products lately and I may have had too much to drink one night which lead to a skincare haul online! First, let me say that I did a lot of research on CocoKind before buying and I really loved that theyre Vegan and Cruelty Free. I also loved that all of their products use clean, natural ingredients that are rarely harsh on skin. I used to use a Witchhazel and Apple Cider Vinegar Toner that I make at home but, I recieved their cocokind - Rosewater Facial Toner as a free gift from a promo on line and UHM CAN YOU SAY AMAZING!? Im not even kidding you guys, this toner calms and balances my skin instantly. My skin tends to flush easily so after washing it is usually pretty red. Immediately after washing I use a couple of sprits of this on a cotton pad and my skin transforms into balanced, glowing skin. I then use my Vitamin E oil, acne.org - Moisturizer with Licochalcone , and cocokind - Chia Facial Oil for moisturizers. Lastly, I swipe the cocokind - Revitalizing Eye Cream under my eyes and the cocokind - Turmeric stick all over my lips as a kind of lip mask/moisturizer. The perfect routine for clean, hydrated skin! Please keep in mind that while I did have horrific cystic acne for a certain amount of time, my skin has actively cleared up and my products do not neccessarily revolve around acne anymore. I do make sure to use products that Im sure wont cause new acne to form but I have been trying to stay away from acne fighting agents as I dont really need them anymore. When I do start to break out a bit more I use Benzoyl Peroxide treatments and the cocokind - Turmeric tonic as a spot treatment.

Acne Skin Routine 🧴
I have acne-prone skin so I do this routine 1-2 times a week. I start by using the DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil to remove sunscreen and/or makeup. Although this one clogged my pores and made me break out, I still want to finish it before I find a new one. Next, I use the CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin to gently cleanse while exfoliating. I’ve been using this for a few months and haven’t noticed transforming results like others have. I tone with the peach slices - Snail Rescue Blemish Busting Toner which has snail mucin (anti-aging), hyaluronic acid (hydrating), Centella Asiatica (soothing), and Tocopherol (Vitamin E). Overall great toner! I mildly exfoliate again with the VERSED - JUST BREATHE Clarifying Serum which has willow bark, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, zinc gluconate, and more. Finally, I moisturize with the cocokind - Texture smoothing cream which I have been loving! It has a lot of squalane which hydrates while balancing oils. Occasionally, I also use pimple patches when I’m breaking out (which is often). My favorite ones are the HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original for Madewell ones.

P.m. skincare routine. Suggestions ?
Here is my pm skincare routine. Started to care about my skin couple months ago only. Never had major issues but fine lines are starting to appear and let’s face it, I was bored during quarantine. I wanted to give double cleanse a try but had trouble finding a drugstore cleansing balm. I came across cocokind - Oil to milk cleanser and was pleasantly surprised. Works okay on make up and is gentle with nice ingredients. I wish the gliding would be a bit more smooth though. I can sometimes feel some pulling and tugging. 🌾 I follow with sioris - Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser as I like milky cleansers. This one is fine especially in colder weather but I sometimes feel like its a bit heavy and not deep cleansing enough. I prefer LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser but have run out. 🥛 I then follow with a first essence and a toner. People always say they are not essential in your routine but they’re actually my fave step. Adding soothing and hydrating ingredients without any heavy/greasy texture (I damaged my skin barrier after over exfoliating). I'm from - Mugwort Essence & COSRX - Propolis Synergy Toner are the ones I’m using right now. My skin agrees with both and it calms down any redness or tight feeling after cleansing. 🐝 I wanted to try snail mucin and was missing a small amount for free shipping (I know you feel me) so opted for MIZON - Snail Repair Eye Cream . Haven’t seen any results on the fine lines around my eyes yet as its only been a couple weeks but the texture is amazing and light and silky. 🐌 Once a week I will use THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum . Will step up to two times a week very soon. Just started my retinol journey and almost made the mistake to go with a 1% OTC retinol. Boy am I glad I did some research. This one is 0,05% retinol. Would really like your recommendations for a next step retinol for my next purchase :). I end the routine with CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion . Really love this. It has niacinamide which is nice because I don’t use it in serum form. I have it in my am toner as well and its just enough for me. Would maybe wanna switch up for a heavier moisturizer for winter if you have any suggestions. Cerave is always sold out in drugstores so wanted to try something else when I run out. Please feel free to recommend products you like. I will mention I use I'm from - Honey Mask and dear, klairs - Midnight Blue Calming Cream on nights my skin feel really bothered (like the night after I used the retinol) I adore the mask but will not be repurchasing the klairs cream. Its a bit overpriced and overrated in my opinion. I will gladly pay less for a similar white “less instagramable” cream. Any suggestion for this one as well? 🍯💙

Best Toners
It can be hard to find a toner that fits your skincare needs, so let me help you! I have recommendations for all skin types, but I personally believe that even if you have very oily skin your toner shouldn’t be stripping so all of these have hydrating properties. I have tried all of these toners and these are my favorites! GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner 🌼Oily and Combination Skin🌼 Because this toner has exfoliating acids in it, it is very beneficial for those with oily or combination skin. It can help those who struggle with acne and blackheads as well (no matter your skin type). It gently exfoliates the skin while still providing hydration. I love the thick texture and the scent the watermelon extract gives it. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner 🌸Dry, Combination, Normal, and Sensitive Skin🌸 This toner is AMAZING if you are looking for hydration. It has so many amazing ingredients including colloidal oatmeal which is actually considered an skin protectant by the FDA due to its effective soothing properties. Because of this it can be listed as an active ingredient. This toner has a watery but slightly thick consistency I really like. peach slices - Snail Rescue Blemish Busting Toner 🌼All Skin Types (Especially Dry)🌼 Out of all of these toners this is the one I think would work for pretty much everyone and is my personal favorite! It has acne fighting properties, it is SUPER hydrating (due to snail mucin being the first ingredient and addition of hyaluronic acid), there is no fragrance, and it sinks quickly into the skin. cocokind - Rosewater Facial Toner 🌸All Skin Types (Especially Combination)🌸 Rosewater toners are great for the skin. It is soothing, calms redness, and helps balance PH. This one in particular is my favorite. It uses one ingredient (rosewater) unlike other popular rosewater toners. If you have any tried any of these products or have any recommendations please let me know in the comments!

Matcha in my face cream? Yes please!
When I saw cocokind came out with a face cream specifically for dry skin people I had to snatch it up! And to get free shipping I added in the eye cream which was surprisingly good. Matcha moisturizer- first off when you see it yes it looks scary and you’re like there is no way that will blend nicely into my skin. But it does, even if you put a lot on your skin it blends in soooo nicely! It smells just like matcha and you can tell no added perfume or anything in there it’s a very natural matcha scent. Very moisturizing too I love pairing this with a face oil in the morning and I’m all good to go this winter! Eye cream- I’m a person who loves eye creams, this one is your everyday basic eye cream, it moisturizes and bonus it also cools your under eye in the morning because of the metal applicator it has on it. Good eye cream for very good price too! 5/5 I do recommend the matcha moisturizer for everyone, oily or combo skin just use a little bit, dry skin use however much your skin needs! Remember it blends in no matter how much you use! So you aren’t walking around looking like the grinch don’t worry. And people looking for a basic eye cream? Or new to the skincare game? This is a perfect addition!

‘Clean’ & affordable skincare 🌿
Let me preface this by saying that I think the term “clean” used in beauty is woolly, at best. The attempt to divide beauty products into good and bad, clean and dirty, toxic and non-toxic makes me feel iffy. You’ll notice I use the term in quotation, and this is the reason why 😌 It’s hard to find ‘clean’, sustainable, eco-friendly brands that are accesible, affordable AND effective. This is why I’m so appreciative of Cocokind! With both sustainability and accessibility at its core, while consistently creating quality products, Cocokind is one of my top brands at the moment. Their products offer ‘clean’, simple yet effective formulas that won’t break the bank. As you can see I’ve gathered quite the collection here, some of my favorite products are: 🌿cocokind - Resurfacing Sleep Mask with bakuchiol as a gentle retinol alternative, is perfect to help skin regain its youthful glow. 🌿cocokind - Pore Refining Concentrate this is amazing, one of my biggest skin issues is uneven texture and this is amazing. Super lightweight in texture, it absorbs quickly and reduces the appearance of pores. 🌿cocokind - Texture smoothing cream lovely creamy texture that isn’t too thick of heavy feeling. Perfect day cream, applies beautifully under makeup. 🌿cocokind - Mymatcha all-over moisture stick súper moisturizing! I’ve been using this as lip balm and it’s amazing. Plus it smells like pan dulce 😌 Their packaging, either made of glass or sugarcane tubes is recyclable. They’re also super community driven which is a plus for me because they care about the people and not just the $$. #CheriePartner

Marshall’s Haul!! Clearance edition
I got everything pictured above while scouring the clearance sections of my local Marshall’s. Some products I’ve used before, while others I’ve been wanting to try. Let’s start with my biggest score! COOLA - COOLA Makeup Setting Spray Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 I spent $30 on this spf setting spray back in September and I found two bottles of it for $8 each! Of course I checked the expiration dates first. This is a great way to apply spf throughout the day while wearing make up. I absolutely hate the way it smells. But it has really good ingredients and regular spf application is very important. A product that’s been on my wish list for some time has been Milk MAKEUP - Blur Liquid Matte Foundation but at $40, that’s where it stayed. So when I saw this foundation on clearance for $8.50, I had to grab it. The shade is slightly dark on my winter complexion, but it’s the correct undertone. The formula is beautiful and if you have the budget, it’s a must have! Let me know if you’d like to hear about cocokind - Golden Elixir cocokind - Facial cleansing oil Simple - Kind to Skin Micellar Cleasing Water in any more detail. I’ll be doing a big mascara post soon featuring MAYBELLINE - Colossal Mascara Go Extreme

Make up removal made easy
I’ve always cared about ingredients in my skin care products. But I was struggling to find a product to break down and remove my make up prior to cleansing. I was using #C’est Moi - Gentle Cleansing Water[products]#[ThreeStars] but it stung my eyes, irritated my skin, and really didn’t remove make up thoroughly. I think it would be a good step after a final cleanse if it didn’t bother my skin. I’ve seen so many positive reviews for different cleansing balms, but the ingredient list was vast and icky. Then after more research, I came across Cocokind Brand. I started using their cocokind - Facial cleansing oil and really like the way it’s been working for me. There is nothing artificial, no parabens or sulfates. It’s vegan and certified organic. And the price is right around $15 (depending on where you get it from). Now that being said, the first ingredient is coconut oil. I have never had an issue using coconut oil on my skin, but I know some people do, so be aware.

That’s proper texture innit?
OK I am obsessed with Love Island UK and this resurfacing mask from @cocokind. It’s a sleeping mask so you literally are getting your beauty rest with this pretty babe. Did someone say plant-derived retinol???? @cocokind said yes, ever heard of bakuchiol? First impression: loved, loved, loved. I actually did see a difference in my skin the next morning. I’ve really been noticing a dullness in my skin as of late, so this was a great pick me up! Can’t wait to try the Chlorophyll Mask next. Also for the high end plant derived ingredients, the masks aren’t ridiculously priced! You can also order online 🤗 **Update on the mask: I use it whenever I need a skin refresh, put it on at night (feels like whipped honey) and wake up to glowing, smooth skin. Does stick to sheets so, make sure not wear on newly washed sheets lol

Cocokind Texture Smoothing Cream
Cocokind Texture Smoothing Cream
I love this moisturizer because it’s thick. Am I the only one who uses their thicker moisturizers as an eyebrow trainer as well? I love how they push them up and stay in place while moisturizing the skin underneath. I’m pretty sure they sell a brow balm so ignore me if you have that. This stuff smells pretty great with no extra crap inside that ruins your skin. I’m super excited to see how the texture smoothing works on my skin. I will be using it continuously to see what miracles it can work!cocokind - Texture smoothing cream

ONE STAR 😕 cocokind - Oil to milk cleanser As you might have seen my previous post, I was really excited to try products from the Cocokind bundle. The first thing I tried was their Oil to Milk Cleanser. I love cleansers that feel gentle but work hard. Cleansers shouldn’t feel too stripping but make you feel clean and refreshed afterwards. This Cocokind cleanser may be a bit too gentle and not in a good way. As soon as I rubbed the product onto my skin I began to wonder if the product had all slipped away. As you can see from my video there’s a very slippery and watery texture to it that doesn’t feel like it’s really absorbing into the skin but rather gliding right off. I was confused but I washed off the product with water hoping it had done its job. Afterward I still felt like there was a layer of oil from the product on my face. My face didn’t feel cleansed. I always like to give things the benefit of the doubt so I tried it again at a different occasion and still it didn’t sit well with me. I’m sure there’s others out there that love the product. For me, I really did want to like the product. It seemed promising, but my experience with it wasn’t that great and there are other cleansers that I love and prefer. I’ll stick to those.

My night routine ! 🙈🙈 For oily acne pro skin ! I try to adapt it a lot, I usually don’t do that much layers of skin care products, but these are very regularly included in my routine.🧖🏼‍♀️🧖🏼‍♀️ If my skin is breaking out, I’ll take out the hyaluronic acid. Or I might take the BHA out of my skin is irritated and dry 💆🏼‍♀️ In general, I always try to listen to my skin and I might just clean and hydrate if I feel like it, let’s not add more pressure into our lives 🌸🌸 Products mentioned: 🐠Micelar water (only when I’m wearing makeup) 🐋Cerave cleanser for normal to oily skin 🦋The Ordinary Niacinamide 10%+ Zinc 1% (pigmentation, acne and inflammation) 🦉The Inkey List BHA (optional) (acne and texture) 🐙The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid +B5 (optional) (hydration and repair) 🐥The Ordinary retinol 1% or 5% retinoid (acne and aging) 🦎Argan Oil from the Annaime Cooperative (hydration)
