Such a dupe! $80 vs. $7?!
One of my favorite things I like to do every time in pharmacy is to explore new skincare products with low and affordable price. I have got combination skin and when I don’t have enough time to sleep, my face gets super dull and rough. What I have discovered recently is The Ordinary Lactic Acid Serum and I have to compare it with Neostrata Bionic Serum since they have similar ingredients and targets.  NEOSTRATA - Bionic Face SerumThe Neostrata Serum has a light yellowish color and is quite thick like glue. To be honest, I don’t like that feeling on my face, but it dries quickly and make the moisturizer easier to smooth. The ingredients are simple, contain Lactobionic Acid, Vitamin A, C, and E to provide intense moisturizing, antioxidant protection and suppleness. I like it because it is hypoallergenic and fragrance-free, which is totally safe to use when my face gets sensitive sometimes. But the price is pretty high compared to other serums in the market.    The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HAI have also bought the lactic acid serum from The Ordinary. Lactic acid and Lactobionic acid are different types in the acid group but can produce similar effects. The lactic acid is an orange-color liquid serum that has no distinct smell. Also, there is hyaluronic acid in it to provide hydration. What I do with both serums is to put it on after the toner, preferable at night since the acid will make skin sensitive to sunlight, and let it dry, then follow with the moisturizer.    These products both gently peel off the dead skin cells and moisturize skin a little bit and I would say the effects of them are really not that different, I see my face got slightly brighter and smoother with each of them. So here comes the ultimate question: is Bionic Serum really worth buying? The fact is the price of Bionic Serum is around 80 dollars and the Lactic acid serum is just 7 dollars! The ingredients in Bionic Serum seem to be all-around, but considering the overwhelming difference in their price, which is hard to believe, I think I will choose The Ordinary Lactic Serum instead.

Wanna fight acne, dead skin, and dehydration? Give them a try👇
We choose skincare products carefully and only spend money on the right stuff. But I believe that most of us definitely have more than one serum on our desk. These serums may have different purposes and for me, my favourite step in a routine is the serum. these are some amazing serums I have tried recently to solve different issues for my combo/oily skin.    To fight acne: Avene Cleanance Anti-blemishes concentrate   I found this is chemists and I remember this is a new Avene product. I know you are familiar with this brand and personally I just enjoy all products I have bought from it. This serum is for people with acne-prone skin and targets to eliminate bacteria and blemishes and also provide sufficient moisture for skin. It feels like a cream, a little thick but not hard to smooth on face though. I am totally fine with its alcohol smell but some may dislike it.    For most of the time, I don’t apply anything else on it because it is moisturizing enough, in a fresh and non-oily way, not like a thick product. The price is still affordable like all other Avene products. No more pimples show up after using this and this works for me.      To fight dead skin: The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA   I think this is the most popular one from The Ordinary and I just picked one with the lowest acid percentage to build tolerance. It gently exfoliates skin and provides moisturisation at the same time. It is a watery serum and super lightweight, and it has no fragrance but a sour smell.    My face itches a little bit around eye area but that just happened for the first time and disappears soon. Before the working day or a day out, I just use this instead other serum to remove dead skin and provide a better base for makeup on the second day. Very affordable and safe to use for most skin types.   To fight dehydration: NEOSTRATA - Bionic Face Serum   This serum has a simple formula using Vitamin A, C and E to protect skin and provide hydration. This gel-like serum is really thick, but not hard to smooth at all. It has a refreshing herbal smell and feels like glue, just after a minute it forms a smooth layer on face and makes everything easier to apply.   Every time I use this I just feel very secure about my face, especially at night after applying it. It works so well that I don’t think I need hyaluronic acid anymore, and this serum actually has more nutrients. Bit pricy but still, worth having one.

I've been testing out some neostrata products for over a month. 🌼 Triple Neck Cream - To be honest, I really wasn't expecting much from this neck cream because I always bring my face products down onto my neck anyways. I was pleasantly surprised to see it actually did make a difference. I have a small patch of on my decolletage area which I'm guessing is from the sun and it almost completely d away after just over a week of use. I was kind of blown away! 🌸 🌼 Intensive Eye Therapy - The cream was thick, yet still light and smooth. It glided under the eye area easily and absorbed into my quickly. I found this worked well not only at night time, but also during the day. My makeup applied smoothly and evenly over top of it with no issues. Sometimes if an eye cream is too heavy it can lead to . This one doesn't do that at all. 🌸 🌼 Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum - This was my absolute favourite! This serum has a solid glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the product. I feel this type of packaging keeps the ingients stable and hygienic, which is important for care. The serum is a tad thick, yet still manages to be lightweight. It glides across the smoothly and evenly absorbing quickly. It didn't leave my feeling greasy in the slightest and worked well underneath my moisturizer. It has a slight scent, but nothing offensive or too potent. It performed well under makeup too, which sometimes is an issue with serums. This left my looking and feeling more hydrated over time. My softened and my just looked plumper, healthier and more evened out while being better hydrated. I'm really impressed with the way this performed for me. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. 🌸

Hit or Miss! I tired these Vitamin C products and here is what I like and don’t...
Vitamin C is not just something we see in supplements. There are more and more skincare products add in vitamin c to enhance their brightening effect. Vitamin C present in different forms of products, powder, cream, serum, and toner or oil. Usually higher the concentration of the vitamin c content, stronger the result it has. So sometimes when the source of VC is too pure, it is hard for some to tolerate. As such a powerful antioxidant, the activity of it degrades gradually, thus it is important to use within a few months after opening.    DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum My face type is combination, and the tone is always uneven and dull after a busy day or a bad sleep. The first vitamin c product I tried is the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Serum. It has 15 percents of vitamin c which is quite high, and pumpkin ferment extract to assist the brightening.     This is from a travel set by Drunk Elephant and the price of this one is not cheap. I like its nut-like smell and it feels like a facial oil, easy to smooth on skin. After trying for two weeks, I see no brightening effect of it but my face becomes softer. I don’t think it worth the money since other brands have cheaper alternatives.   NEOSTRATA - Illuminating Serum My friend gave me this serum a few months ago and summer is coming, I decided to try this under my sunscreen. The gel texture is not something I like, but it dries quickly and one pump of it is all you need for face and neck. The ingredient list is surprisingly long and many of them are orange and other plant/flower extracts. I tried this for just five days, and I have to say that the niacinamide and vitamin c in this little bottle are really effective for my concern. My nose and chin got slightly brighter, and my face got especially evener than before. However, its price is a little bit higher than other serums, but for people with enough budget, this is worth trying.   BOBBI BROWN - Deluxe Size Vitamin Enriched Face Base This is my favorite product, even it does not have that much vitamin c like other products. It is a moisturizer enriched with vitamin c and e, and it smells like fresh orange which is so amazing. I sometimes use it when my face is super dry because it is thick, but I use it more often as a moisturizing primer. After I remove my makeup with a whole-day wearing, my face does look brighter and clearer, which is actually beyond my expectation.    Another personal reason I like it is that it makes some space for a non-vitamin-c serum. The price is around the average of face moisturizers in the market, higher than those in the pharmacy though, but it is totally worthy.

Serums for different concerns! There's always one for you!👉
The serum is definitely the most powerful step in a skincare routine and works as a multi-task-taking warrior to fight different skin problems. For different purposes, I also got my own choice on them.   For Antioxidant COSMEDIX - Affirm Serum This antioxidant serum is super lightweight and has a milky colour and watery texture. Also, the sesame scent is pretty light and smells comfy. It contains a lot of potent ingredients to fight pollution and ageing and repair damage caused by sun and dirt in the surroundings. I feel my face got smoother and firmer after using this but it is a little pricy though. Cannot decide whether to buy it later but I definitely will keep an eye on it.      For Brightening  NEOSTRATA - Illuminating Serum This serum is thick and has a transparent colour but very easy to apply. It contains not only Vitamin C but also some exclusive yet effective ingredients to brighten skin and even skin tone. To be honest I cannot feel its brightening effect but I do experience its function to even skin tone and give back its original, natural glow. Still, it is a bit pricy like other Neostrata products and I don’t think I will buy it again because there are so many other products worthy to try.   For Hydration CLARINS - Hydra-Essentiel Bi-Phase Serum I like Clarins so much because they have created some many amazing products and this is one of them. This serum has a very cute light blue colour and has a really smooth silky texture on skin. I also love its light floral smell and I can say this is the best scent from all serums I have used. There are two layers in the bottle and before applying, just need to mix them together. I have oily skin and this serum gives enough hydration to my face but doesn’t make my face over oily at all and doesn’t make my acne worse. It is also a good serum to apply before cream to provide a moisturising base for makeup. I think it is worth the money and becoming my holy grail.

The latest and current eye cream in my routine has been the neostrata Brightening Eye Cream that was sent to me for trying and reviewing. #gotitforfree . I have tried an eye cream from this brand before and they really do make some good ones. This particular fragrance free eye cream has a complex blend of Antioxidants, Peptides, Algae extracts, and Stabilized Vitamins C & E, PHA blend (Gluconolactone and Lactobionic Acid) . In a nutshell, this  light weight cream, non-greasy cream can be used both day and night, as it does not leave any residue. It made the under eye fine lines less prominent and smooth. My eye area appeared firm, super hydrated, moiturized and nourished. I noticed considerable brightness, though it did not completely erase the dark circles, which I doubt any product can do, because some part of my issue is hereditary. The radiance and luminous illusion itself is a good sign that with constant use and better lifestyle, there won't be darkness for ever.

This brightening eye cream from Neostrata is formulated to reduce the look of dark circles and restore the look of firmness and moisture for a smooth and brighter under eye appearance. Yeah, I need that. . It's formulated with peptides, antioxidents, algae extracts as well as a blend of gluconolatone and lactobionic acid to target under eye darkness. . I'm fortunate to not suffer from dark undereye circle or puffiness but I am enjoying this eye cream. I've been using it twice a day for about 10 days. It absorbs quickly and wears well under concealer. I also notice the skin under my eyes is extremely soft in the mornings, which is nice!

Skincare Acids: A Cheat Sheet
Before I go back to my normal beauty myth series Myth Busted, I figured I would post about something I’ve never really mentioned on Cherie, skincare acids. Now don’t freak out! These acids aren’t the type that are going to melt your face off. Most of them are AHA’s and BHA’s. An AHA acid, short for Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are water soluble molecules the generally come from fruit or dairy. These acids usually help with hyperpigmentation, exfoliation, and fine lines. BHA’s on the other hand are oil soluble molecules that penetrate deep into your pores and can help with acne and oily skin. And now for the Cheat Sheet down below! Name: Ascorbic Acid Benefits: Antioxidant, brightening. More information: Ascorbic Acid is a synthetic version of Vitamin C. Watch out for: Ascorbic Acid, when left open, slowly loses its potency. Name: Hyaluronic Acid Benefits: Water retaining hydrater, improves appearance of fine lines. More information: None. Watch out for: None. Name: Glycolic Acid Benefits: Blurs spots, scars, and wrinkles, brightening, reduces the appearance of pores. More information: One of the best acids for aging skin. Watch out for: None. Recommendations: NEOSTRATA - Foaming Glycolic Wash Name: Lactic Acid Benefits: Exfoliating, improves appearance of fine lines. More information: Great for sensitive skin. Watch out for: High prices for products containing this acid. Name: Salicylic Acid Benefits: Reduces sebum, can help even skin tone, helpful for rosacea. More information: None. Watch out for: Do not use if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or allergic to aspirin. Be aware that darker skin tones can experience irregular lightening or darkening of the skin. Recommendations: PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist Advanced Pore-Refining Treatment 4% BHA Name: L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Benefits: Stimulates collagen production, antioxidants, minimizes wrinkles. More information: None. Watch out for: Not an exfoliant, but still acidic, so don’t layer with other acids.

I found the right way to use acid products, and here is what happened...😍😍😍
Handling acid product can be dangerous! Not to say the harsh chemicals, some ingredients in high dose form skincare products can be quite unsafe. Using too much or too often, not following instructions, or not gradually increase the concentration are some common issues when dealing with AHA or BHA. I have combination and oily skin. Exfoliation is important for oily skin to get rid of dead skin from time to time. Here are two products that I would recommend people to try when they have tried some products and wanna see progress or those whose skin is totally tolerant to of AHA products.    · NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash NEOSTRATA - Foaming Glycolic Wash My friend told by her doctor to try this and I just heard from her about this product. I have to say this cleansing foam is so powerful and strong and even not suitable for some. Before using this, I have tried NeoStrata Facial Cleanser and it was gentler than this foam. It has a large amount of glycolic acid to clean pores, remove dead skin, and prepare skin for optimal benefits of the following routine. I just use this every other day right now by building tolerance and the result is quite obvious: my face got softer and smoother after each use. This foam is worthy for those with low potential for irritation to try to receive a much smoother skin.   · Neostrata Ultra Smoothing Lotion NEOSTRATA - Ultra Smoothing Lotion This is another product from Neostrata I like; I tried the foam wash first and then add this to my wishlist later. It contains a large amount of glycolic acid to exfoliates the skin. There is a slightly sour smell of it and this milky texture makes it really easy to smooth on skin. Just a little bit is enough to apply all over the face and neck. It is a little tingling on the first application as well but still, disappears quickly and doesn’t come back next time. I use a facial mist first and then apply this only before bed, and I don’t need any other products since it provides hydration enough for my combo skin.

Dark Circles? No thanks...
Eye care is the most important part of the whole skincare routine and even for me sometimes I will also forget it. I’ve got a really sensitive eye area and my problem is basically dark circles when I stay up too late and sometimes fine lines when I smile. It is hard for me to find a non-greasy product that also provides enough hydration.  CLARINS - Extra-Firming Eye If you have read any of my previous reviews you definitely know how much I love Clarins and I actually received a gift from them and there is an extra firming eye cream in this box and I was really excited to use it. I really love the scent used in this eye cream, it just feels really warm and classic. I know it sounds weird for an eye cream but it’s really nice and balmy. This mini tube lasts for a month because I don’t use that much and I don’t see any fine lines after using it. For me it provides a very good hydration especially when I have foundation over my eyes. To be honest it might be not worth to buy for some people but I really like the smell in the feeling and the sheer hydration it gives me so I would purchase a full-sized one to use. NEOSTRATA - Intensive Eye Therapy I saw this product on sales in the pharmacy. I have heard this brand before but I have never tried any eye product from it. This product contains caffeine, peptides, vitamin E and a patented ingredient called “NeoGlucosamine” to fully address the problem of dark circles wrinkles, puffiness and uneven pigmentation. It is not a cheap product at its full price but I will say at this price I’m really glad to see how my puffiness and dark circles are getting treated. I followed the instructions to apply it once a daily for a week and I already see my dark circles getting paler. My wrinkle problem isn’t that obvious so I don’t know if it really helped me on that. I clearly know some people have tried a lot of products to solve the dark circle problem so I will say this is worth trying if you are craving for such a product.

Nicotinamide——The natural treatment for our skin!
My skin can easily get darker and uneven because of the sunlight, and scars and marks are just taking too long to diminish, brightening is always something that I pay a lot attention in as I prefer lighter complexion. I’ve tried a lot of whitening products and the most common ingredients that will help lightens up your skin is nicotinamide! I guess most of you have heard about the praises of it.   NEOSTRATA - Enlighten Illuminating Serum NEOSTRATA Illuminating Serum Nicotinamide is not the main ingredient of this one, but it contains a variety of ingredients with similar functions like acid and VC that help restore skin’s regeneration and melanin protection. This is especially great for healing after pimples. As attracted by the ingredients, I even use this serum for scar repair. I can feel my skin becomes smoother and stronger, and the nicotinamide makes the dark mark fades away faster. Incorporating this serum into daily skincare routine, you can use it to replace toner, and remember to use it nightly or use it with sunscreen!   LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment LA ROCHE-POSAY Effaclar Duo (+) This one is designed for active pimples and reduce acne blemishes. This is only for topical use, yet I don't get pimples very often, so I didn't use it a lot. I don't know why, but I feel this product is a little bit irritative for me. Might because the percentage of acid is too high. If you are sensitive skin, start with a low-concentration one.  The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% THE ORDINARY Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Niacinamide is the main ingredient of it and the effect is evident! The previous two products focus more on topical whitening or acne repair, this one can be used for the overall face area and after finishing one bottle, it illuminates my dull and uneven skin tones! While this product has a relatively high percentage of niacinamide to 10%. The recommended way is to start with little amount and then gradually add usage. For sensitive skin, it’s better to do a topical allergy test before applying to your whole face.

My Night Routine for Acne + Anti-ageing
If you ask me three years ago how acne and anti-aging can be relatable, I definitely do not know how to answer because I don’t know how’s that possible. It took me pretty long to discover these powerhouse products with potent ingredients and thanks to the Internet for teaching me these! This night routine is strong yet effective; even so, it might not satisfy everyone. My acne-prone skin is the issue I want to solve so I did a little research on the web and found these. They mainly address wrinkles and dullness problem but for me, the acid and retinol work better together on my face. Step 1: Cleanse with This gel-like cleanser contains polyhydroxy acid(PHA) which is a non-irritating resurfacing ingredient, but it is formulated without soap or fragrance, so it is also suitable for sensitive skin for daily cleansing. Even my face gets oily in the day. This cleanser is totally enough to erase all the grease. This is the preparation for the following products. Step 2: Pre-protect with After learning that retinol can make the skin more sensitive and flakier, I went online and bought this emulsion. Retinol is an amazing and traditional ingredient added in cosmetic products and drugs to solve wrinkles and aging issue. It also boosts the production of collagen and new blood vessels to make skin look younger and evener. This emulsion replaces toner and serum for its hydrating and moisturizing effect without being sticky. As a signature product, it reduces redness and itching of irritation by supporting the skin’s natural barrier. I see this as a protection serum to fight the side effects from the following retinol moisturizer. Step 3: The main courseWrinkle Repair Moisturizer> My friend recommended this to me, and I can’t wait to see the result. I first tried it alone and then added it to this routine. This is a silky moisturizer; it doesn’t give a matte finish, but the floral smell is quite classic. It is non-comedogenic and perfect for those with aging concerns and mild-to-moderate acne problems. Considering retinol’s instability in the daytime, I use this at night only. It is not irritating at all, especially with NIOD emulsion. I have tried this routine for two weeks and my red acne scars are fading away gradually since it takes time to fight it but that is already good news. Currently, I am not suffering from wrinkles, but this could definitely be others’ anti-ageing routine for sure. And for those with sensitive skin, choose retinol products wisely when there are non-irritating alternatives.

Every rosacea skin should definitely see this
Every rosacea skin should definitely see this
I have rosacea skin for several years and I’ve tried numerous skincare products and cosmeceuticals. But my skin situation is not stable, it can get red, sensitive and with some spots occasionally. Last year I went to visit a famous doctor who is the top expert on the treatment for rosacea, and she recommended me to change all of my daily-routine products to very simple but efficient ones. after using these products for about half a year, my skin become stable and very smooth. I’d like share these products with you guys, (I spent a lot of money to get this recommendation lol, so plzzzzz read it and remember it!!!) I think it is suitable for all rosacea skin. And all of the products are pretty cheap and easy to buy. Morning🌝: 1. LAROCHE-POSAY EFFACLAR H cleansing cream 2.NeoStrata redness neutralizing serum 3. SKINCEUTICALS sheer mineral uv defense SPF 50 (if you don’t like mineral texture you can change it, becuz to be honest it’s cannot fit the foundations and become too white on face, now I change it to HELIOCARE 360 gel oil-free, check the third pic, ;D) Night🌛: 1. LAROCHE-POSAY EFFACLAR H cleansing cream 2. SESDERMA AZELAC moisturizing cream 3. Finacea (Azelaic acid) this kind of acid is really good for rosacea but you need to make sure you skin can tolerate it in advance. 4. SKINCEUTICALS redness neutralizer (if you think it’s a little bit heavy, you can still use NeoStrata redness neutralizing serum) It’s the all the products I use as daily routine, very simple, but really useful to cure the rosacea.

@neostratacanada Biocellulose mask has 0.15% Pure Hyaluronic acid, which just means its not a hyaluronic acid derivative like sodium hyaluronate. Hyaluronic acid is the form that’s naturally found in the skin. I love the way this mask makes my skin feel after application and I love that the mask is biocellulose instead of a sheet mask, it just makes the experience feel more hydrating! The @pixibeauty Detoxifeye gel patches contain caffeine for dark circles and for brightening, cucumber for soothing and hydrating, and tiny gold specks to nourish the eye area. This combination is the perfect eye treatment combo in the form of a “mask”

More PHA (polyhydroxy acids)!
More PHA (polyhydroxy acids)! The Neostrata Bionic Face Serum contains 10% lactobionic acid. Neostrata is one of the only Western brands to be making PHAs right now, and pioneered the research behind the ingredient. In practice, this serum is quite sticky and takes a while to absorb, but after it absorbs it does layer well with other products. Like the other PHA products I tried, I do think the effects are less dramatic than those with AHAs, but I had absolutely zero irritation and I think the serum was nicely hydrating, which was an extra plus. My skin did look less sallow and more radiant while using it.
