Things I actually repurchased this month!
So I love to do product reviews and empties updates, but this time I wanted to actually show what I repurchased this month. I find that consistency has been really good, for my skin especially, lately and sometimes choosing products that you know will work feels like a more worthy purchase as times. So I’m just going to share each of the products and why I love them! None of these products will be a surprise to you all.. cuz I feel like I talk about them all the time but oh well 😬 Benzagel - Acne Wash Benzagel. Take my money. I love this face wash so so much. I owe my clear (well mostly clear) skin to this product. I can’t go a day without it. It’s gentle, but effective at keeping acne away and it’s so affordable. I restock this product pretty regularly at the drugstore. It might be my #1 most repurchased product. BIODERMA - Sensibio H2O Soothing Micellar Cleansing Water It’s my favourite (and I think the best) micellar water. I go through multiple bottles every year. It’s non-irritating, leaves no residue and helps get off any type of mascara. This is a fan favourite for a reason. Plus if you buy the two packs it’s a pretty good price. indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron Moisture Jelly This has been a go-to moisturizer for me ever since the weather for a little bit colder. It’s lightweight, but pretty moisturizing. It has the cutest pump at the top that you press to get the product out. The only downside to this is you don’t get a ton of product for the price point. Mitchum - Advanced Control Solid Anti-Perspirant Deodorant, Pure Fresh Okay, I know it might seem weird to review a deodorant but... I don’t care. It’s effective and lasts all day long. This is really the only deodorant that I use now! The scent is light and fresh but fairly subtle so you’re not overwhelmed by the smell. It does leave white marks if you’re not careful, just a warning. essie - Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish This one is a cheat... because I repurchased this but in a new colour! I have been loving the pink shade I have and use it almost every single week. I just love how easy and quick it is. It seriously takes me like 10-15 mins to paint and dry my nails. So now that it’s fall I had to buy this cute dark red colour too. indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron + Volumising Lip Treatment This has become a big go-to lip balm for me. It’s perfect to throw in your purse or pocket. I find it very moisturizing and has saved my chapped lips. It’s perfect for everyday use and I think it’s definitely worth the price. The only con is I love when products are a little more buttery and this feels a little thicker and even a little sticky. LANEIGE - LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask This mask is so buttery, moisturizing and it just feels luxurious. This little tub lasts forever, I think it’s definitely worth the price point. I use it every night and I wake up with smooth lips. 💋

These two saved my dry & peeling skin this week!
Sigh. Combo skin. One day, super oily. Next day, dry patches galore! So earlier this week I had a bit of a thing happening on my chin. My skin was continually flakey and peeling around there for almost a week and despite applying hyaluronic acid serum and reapplying moisturizer throughout the day, nothing seemed to get rid of the peeling for good. So in a moment of slight desperation, I pulled these two items out from the back of my skincare cupboard. The first couple of nights I tried out the serum with my current moisturizer and it kind of helped, but then I used the serum in combination with the Hydraluron Moisture Jelly and voila I woke up with dewy, soft and healed skin! 🙌🏼 indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron Moisture Jelly Super lightweight moisturizer, but with a high weight hyaluronic acid and glycerin which act as humectants that hydrate the skin. It absorbs nicely into the skin, isn’t greasy but really locks in the moisture. This was great throughout the summer, but I was afraid that in the cooler months I might need something to add a little more hydration. Which is why I originally picked up the... indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron Moisture Serum This is also a very lightweight product and it also includes hyaluronic acid which helps hydrate the skin. On top of that, there is some red algae extracts within the serum that helps provide even more hydration. It’s a fairly simple ingredient list and doesn’t have anything that makes me feel like it could be irritating to the skin. It’s simple and certainly isn’t going to completely change your skin but it’s effective and leaves me with hydrated, plump and dewy skin. Both of these products are affordable and accessible (got mine at Shoppers Drug Mart), as well as cruelty free, fragrance free and vegan. Together they almost immediately (overnight) took care of my irritated, dry patch and turned it into soft and dewy skin. I’m very thankful for these two products right now and I can see them being very useful in the winter time. Note: my skin is typically a bit more oily and very acne prone so I typically opt for light weight, gel based, moisturizers. So if you have dry skin, you may want to choose a more heavy duty moisturizer. But I think the serum could be good for any skin type. 💕

The definition of an approachable retinol
Retinol! Or Vitamin A. It can seem so intimidating! The peeling, the purging, the irritation. But it’s also regarded as one of the most important anti-ageing products that you can buy (other than SPF). So I was super excited to stumble upon what I would consider a very approachable retinol. The indeed LABORATORIES - Retinol Reface Retinol Skin Resurfacer is approachable in two main ways: 1) its gentle and shouldn’t irritate the skin and 2) it’s pretty affordable. I think this would be a great option if you’re looking for a retinol to try out for the first time. In my case, I had actually tried a couple different retinol serums and wasn’t overjoyed with the results or with how my skin felt afterwards. So I waited until I found one that looked a little more gentle to ease myself into it. Enter Retinol Reface! The good: + Absolutely no irritation whatsoever. If you’re nervous about retinol because you’ve heard horror stories or experienced it yourself, I think this one is a really safe bet. + Absorbs easily into the skin. + This is more of a preventative product for me at this point, but I swear since using it (three months) my skin is smoother and the light lines in my forehead have smoothed over slightly as well. + It’s just $20! Which is super affordable compared to the other brands I’ve seen. Unless of course you’re going after a retinol from The Ordinary. + Key ingredients include: Bakuchiol (plant-based alternative for retinol), retinol (smooths, brightens and provides anti-ageing benefits), a retinol-like peptide and glycerin (humectant that hydrates). The not so good: - Some days I love the pump, some days I don’t like it. - This is one of those products that I get tripped up on at times. It’s almost like a very light cream, but also I’m always tempted to use a moisturizer afterwards...? I usually do just in case but I can’t tell if that’s me being over the top. Either way, it can be a bit confusing. If I’m just overthinking it 🙃 - If you want to get down to the nitty gritty - it’s not very clear what percentage of Vitamin A is in this product. There are ways to make a quick guess by looking at the ingredients but it is a bit weird that the brand hasn’t disclosed it. According to one source it’s close to 1%... Worth it? This will definitely last you at least 2 months (depending on how often you use it). I personally only use it twice a week and use a small amount. And it’s affordable and it’s effective, so yes! Will I repurchase? I will. Especially while I’m in my 20s, I don’t feel as much pressure to go in with a heavy strength retinol product. I’m happy to go low and slow. However.. I do want to try out some new ones too. Retinol tip: Kate Somerville says that you should use retinol according to the decade you are in. Aka if you’re in your 20s, use it twice a week. If you’re in your 30s, three times a week. Etc! Also please patch test with your retinol! Ps I have combo, acne prone skin. :)

My night time skin care routine
My night time routine is all about repair and treatment. Your skin repairs best at night. Step one my first cleanse Kiehl's - Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil I’m all about the double cleanse and I lovvveeeee this oil cleanser to remove dirt grime makeup and all the crud that can get one my skin during the day. It has evening primrose oil which does wonders for my skin. I massage it into my skin and then jump in the shower and get a micro fibre cloth and gently wipe it off my skin. Then I use Avène - Cleanance Cleansing Gel for face and body this is a gentle cleanser that does help with breakouts I have dry skin but it doesn’t dry my skin out at all but helps clear my skin when I do have break outs. I also use a cleansing foil with a silicone head. This helps with exfoliating this skin and helps the to product get into my skin. I jump out of the shower and continue the rest of my skincare routine The next step is indeed LABORATORIES - Retinol Reface Retinol Skin Resurfacer this is a gentle retinol but if you haven’t used a retinol before be careful and I would recommend not to start with this one. I use this either before my moisturiser or sometimes after depending on how my skin is feeling. After that I FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration I use one of two moisturisers the first aid beauty is good but if my skin in needing more care and a really think cream QV - Ego Cream is what I go for it’s just a good basic moisturiser. I do switch things out depending on how my skin is going at the moment I’m having a few hormonal and stressed induced breakouts so this is my current routine.

Vitamin C
Checking in here with my Vitamin C treatments! I want to give this guy right here 5/5. I love Vitamin C, but does it ever sting! And you’re sitting there, hoping the more it stings the better the results will be... you wanna make my hands stink for weeks after, sure.... I’ll take it all for beautiful skin. That’s not always the case as I am sure you already know 😕 When I say I have PIH, I mean I realllyyy do have the red marks all over my cheeks. Best part is, it’s a big challenge for me not to pick at the pimples and pores and create new red spots that turn into purple that turn into scars. Aaaaand it’s a never ending cycle. One thing I can say to anyone with a similar issue about picking at your skin - always have product/makeup/mask on your face so you don’t go picking at it. Or message a friend and have a simple conversation. Distract yourself. Remove every single magnifying mirror in your house. And let’s get to these Vitamin C serums to bring back your best looking self 🍋🍊 indeed LABORATORIES - Vitamin C24 Serum This guy is working very well for me. The tingling is not too bad even though the percentage of Vitamin C is high, I am assuming the hyalironic acid added in this formula is balancing things out and leaving the skin soft, I don’t follow up with a moisturizer after I apply this serum before bed. I like the price point for indeed products and my skin is loving every single thing I’ve tried so far. The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% certainly a nice product to have for a lower price point to try out how your skin reacts to this specific Acid. This was a starting point for me and I gradually built the percentage going from there. I found that this one doesn’t fully absorb and kind of stays on the surface of your skin, so you will end up rubbing it off on everything SUNDAY RILEY - C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum very good.... very expensive. This is a great AM serum to wear under SPF and makeup. It goes on perfectly and doesn’t sting. If I ever save up enough for this product I would re purchase. It did not change my skin dramatically but it certainly makes your skin look even and luxurious. THE inkey LIST - Vitamin C Serum 30ml very good, very cheap. This is a great product if you are on the budget, but you will need to purchase yourself a bottle of hyaluronic acid because this baby feels hella spiky. When I first put it on (even though I have been using Vitamin C for months) it felt like there was a thousand tiny needles poking through my skin. I followed up with Hyaluronic Acid immediately and the tingling went down. All in all, Indeed Vitamin C serum is worth a try for a pretty good price. My combination skin is loving it. Please drop a comment and tell me about your fave Vitamin C serum! For all my babies with acne scars and hyperpigmentation, i hope you are reading this and I hope you know you are beautiful! ♥️💫

Travel-friendly lip balms for chapped lips
I’m a lip balm addict. I can get really dehydrated and flaky lips so when I leave the house or go for a small trip I need to have at least one product in my purse / backpack / tote bag. I love these three lips balms because they have hygienic and slim packaging that fits almost anywhere. And I like bringing these three around because they each serve a unique purpose: indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron + Volumising Lip Treatment ^ when you need some heavy duty hydration ($15) I am absolutely loving this lip treatment from indeed. After just one use my lips were super soft and didn’t have any flakes left over. The formula is clear, THICK and was actually hard to squeeze out of the tube at first. But once you put it on it feels moisturizing, but thick enough that it won’t move out of place. The only thing I will say is that I don’t these this product makes my lips look any more voluminous that they did already... but I don’t mind and for $15 I’m super happy with the results. I would even consider bringing this in place of my Laneige lip mask is I was going on a quick weekend trip or just had a small purse. Then I met you - Honey Dew Lip Mask ^ when you want dewy and glossy lips ($22) Say you want to look extra dewy or flirty...But you don’t want a gloss that will dry out your lips or will feel too sticky. I would definitely recommend trying this lip mask. It’s not as healing as the indeed lip treatment, but it will keep your lips hydrated and super super glossy. Plus it smells super nice. The product is clear and almost a little oily. It’s a really lovely formula and pretty packaging. The scent is sweet but subtle. Overall, I love pulling this out of my purse and swiping a bit on before going out because I feel extra dewy and pretty. Glossier. - Balm Dotcom ^ the jack of all trades ($15) Lips feeling a bit chapped? Balm dotcom. Cuticles feeling dry? Balm dotcom. Elbows cracking? Balm dotcom. Let’s be honest, it’s beautiful and lightly scented Vaseline. And I love it. It’s so convenient for when you’re out and about. For $15 it does seem a bit steep, but the packaging is cute, the scent is nice and the pink tint in this rose version is subtle but pretty. Overall, I’m happy to spend the money for this convenient and versatile product. 🥰💋

“Simplicity is key” is not a cliche
I’m a chemistry graduate weening her way into the personal care sciences to make effective skincare and makeup that has a long lasting effect on the way your skin treats you. I have a deep passion to help people around me understand what the hell is going on with their skin. More often than not, the issue is... we be doin too much. I don’t have problematic skin per say but she is sensitive, picky, and temperamental. For a while I fell down the 10 step skin care routine rabbit hole. I put a toner on my face, a serum, another serum, aloe Vera gel, and two heavy moisturizers. I thought that would make me glowy. Wrong. Instead what happened was my skin started growing bacteria. Fungal acne, my new worst enemy. There was too much going on. I had little spots on my forehead I couldn’t get rid of. So like any other skin care junkie I decided to combat it with even MORE products. When that didn’t work, I thought about how my skin was in high school. A single pimple during my time of the month and that was it. Why wasn’t my skin fussy back then? It’s cuz I didn’t do much back then. I scaled back. I used simple skin care with simple ingredients. I used skin care from the same brand to see if the way they work together benefitted me. Low and behold, my fungal acne was defeated. But then came eczema. As I’ve gotten older, my seasonal allergies have taken over my life. Not only do I have to go out of my way to keep itchy eyes and sneezes at bay, but eczema so graciously decides to find a home under my eyes. Insert eye creams. Insert... two eye creams. Truly a dynamic duo. All the products tagged here are my holy grail items. I’m loyal to them and will die for them. They continually fix my skin when she’s acting up and give her a pat on the back when she’s behaving. I’m back on my cycle of getting one blemish per month and I keep that at bay with DifferinGel & acne patches. Sometimes when we cut back, our skin will thank you. Tips: Don’t wet your face before putting this cleanser on. Weird. I know. But don’t. Let your dry skin drink this in first. Then add water to foam it up after it’s completely rubbed in. Your skin will feel 10 times more moisturized after cleansing this way. Don’t towel dry your face. Let it air dry. Pat the water in. Use a hand fan. A sopping wet face? Yeah. That’s what we want. Letting your face air dry allows your face to drink that water! The Hyaluronic acid serum retains water from the air and the water already on your skin. Youre giving your serum a boost if you let your face air dry. That’s where the moisture will be retained from.

The BEST Affordable Skincare! (All $20 or under)
Krave - The Beet Shield $20 for 50 ml Only pros with this one! No white cast, not too greasy, not drying, sits well under makeup, completely unscented, and spf 50+++! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel $14.99 for 13.52 oz This cleanses my skin thoroughly without being overly drying or stripping. Gentle enough to be used on eye makeup too! CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin $18.99 for 16 oz Super hydrating but not too thick or pore clogging. Dries slightly matte so it works well under makeup too. Can be used on the whole body VERSED - WEEKEND GLOW $17.99 for 4 oz This has lactic acid, glycolic acid, azelaic acid, kojic acid and vitamin c to exfoliate and brighten. I use this several times a week in the morning and notice my skin is sooo much brighter since I began using it. Not irritating at all, despite all of the different active ingredients. Also love the pump bottle top THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm $9.99 for 5 oz I love that this one comes in a tube instead of a jar! Much more sanitary and easier to get out. This removes all my makeup easily, even lipstick and mascara, and rinses off without leaving any kind of film behind. indeed LABORATORIES - In-Circadian Night Mask $24.99 for 1.7 oz Okay yes this one is more than $20, but it’s sold at Ulta and there are always great coupons that would make it under $20 when used. A night mask is just a thick moisturizer, but this one can also be layered over your regular moisturizer in colder months, or if you have extra dry skin. This mask is super hydrating and sinks into the skin super well so it won’t get on your pillow while you sleep #cheriepartner

My first jelly moisturizer and I am converted!
My first jelly moisturizer and I am converted!
Indeed Lab’s Hydraluron Moisture Jelly* definitely comes in clutch for my oily friends all year long especially during the summer. I love how light this felt on my face and how easily it absorbs into my skin. This did not make my face feel oily at all! I’m torn between the packaging. I love that it comes in a super hygienic pump. I don’t love that it’s not completely recyclable. Would I repurchase this? Yes....if it came in a more sustainable packaging. IF sustainability isn’t a priority to you then I highly recommend this! For reference, I’m oily and acne prone. indeed LABORATORIES - Hydraluron Moisture Jelly

【1+1>2】My New Spring Routine
First to introduce my skin type, I am combination. Tzone can be oily, occasionally has acne issues. Here is the new routine I am on recently. 【 The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 2% 】+ 【 indeed Retinal Reface 】 💙Niacinamide is great for hydration, recovery, as well as balancing the skin tone and control acne issue. Zinc is really good to help with control the oily face, so TO serum is great for oily face in general. If your skin is very dry normally you might want to add a good hydranating product as well. 💛Retinal is THE ANTI-AGING gold. Retinal anti-aging works the most efficiently when together with niacinamide. In addition, niacinamide helps with developing skin’s tolerance to retinal as well. So 1+1>2! However, please make sure only use this combination during night time. Retinal makes skin sensitive towards sunlight so avoid use it in morning. Also you should use sunblocks in the morning if you used Retinal product during the night time. Niacinamide is fine in day time but still make sure use that darn sunblocks!! If your skin type is sensitive, you can start with something that has less niacinamide (3%-5%) than the TO serum. 10% can be pretty intense for anyone who didn't use niacinamide before.

I was keen to try this product to see if it will modify my fine lines, especially around eye area. I loved the consistency, the mattifying effect on my skin and how velvety soft my skin became on application.
