OTC Epiduo Dupe Part 1
**Disclaimer: This post is not meant in place of medical advice. It's best to consult a dermatologist about skin concerns when possible. This is another long one, y'all. I've broken it up into two posts to allow adequate explanation, but please, PLEASE, stick around to read part 2. Failure to properly use the products mentioned can result in skin injury!! WHAT IS IT? For those who don't know, Epiduo is a topical acne medication available by prescription only. It's two active ingredients however, are available over the counter. Epiduo consists of a combination of 0.3% adapalene and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. While you won't find adapalene in that high of a concetraion over the counter, the lower concentration (0.1%) can be just as effective with less irritation. Benzoyl peroxide however, can be found in varying concentrations from 2.5% to 10% with the lower concentrations also being as effective as the higher. HOW DOES IT WORK? For the sake of brevity I'll just give you a brief rundown here. Adapalene adjusts the rate of skin cell turnover to regulate the process. In the case of acne, skin cell turnover is in overdrive. That means new skin cells are being produced while old skin cells are not being discarded properly. These old skin cells, along with sebum and bacteria, clog pores. The regulation of skin cell turnover prevents accumulation of all that gunk thereby keeping pores from being clogged. Adapalene is also renowned for it's anti-aging benefits, but that's another post 😉 Benzoyl peroxide (sometimes abbreviated BPO) penetrates the skin and is metabolized into benzoic acid and oxygen. The oxygen free radicals kill anaerobic bacteria. For a more in-depth look at BPO, see my last post! Together these ingredients prevent clogged pores and limit bacterial growth, addressing two of the main causes of acne. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU? It means that your local drug store can supply you with everything you need to get started with an (almost) prescription strength acne treatment. Here are some adapalene products to consider: DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment CVS Health Adapalene Gel ACNE FREE - Adapalene Gel USP 15G proactiv - Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment And here are some BPO products: Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatment Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Spot Gel ZAPZYT - Acne Treatment Gel LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo (+) *Stores like Walmart, Target, and several drug stores have their own brands of BPO spot treatments which are typically comparable to name brands at competitive prices. *Make sure to check the concentration of BPO. In this instance, the lower the better. Stay tuned to find out how to use this hack and to hear about my product picks explained.

My full current routine
My skin is very acne prone skin and has been as long as I can remember, yet I’ve never been able to find anything that really works, you know? Thus, I’ve decided to put my current routine out there in the hopes that someone, anyone might be able to offer some advice or tips to help. Morning: wash with the 3.5%Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Cream Cleanser(I’ve searched for a 10% formula but I guess it’s not carried in Canada) tone withpixi - Glow Tonicwith 5% glycolic. Sometimes I also use THAYERS - Lavender Facial Tonerbut not as often anymore mix 3 drops of lavido - Invigorating Facial Serumwith 3 drops of íUNIK - Tea Tree Relief Serumand a pump of vitamin C serum from a local brand called Truly Lifestyle Brand. I’m not sure it’s the best to mix my serums like that but hey. Also the vitamin C serum is a 17% concentration. moisturize with Cetaphil - DermaControl Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30. I actually do feel as if this has helped my acne but I could just be imagining it; I used to believe that my old moisturizer broke me out before I switched to this one. Sometimes I feel dry since it’s oil absorbing I guess but it’s not frequent. lastly isOLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème; I don’t suffer from dark under eyes but I still like this one. Evening: wash with same neutrogena face wash tone with pixi toner I used to use the proactiv md 3 step routine and although I don’t use the cleanser and rarely use the sunscreen-moisturizer, I recently started using the proactiv - Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatmentagain use the same serums minus the vit c serum moisturize with the CAUDALIE - Vineactiv 3 in 1 Vitamin C Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer. I’m not concerned about anti-aging, I was recommended this for helping with the skin barrier. Sometimes for nighttime I also mix this moisturizer with the LANEIGE - Cica Sleeping Maskor SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask spot treat overnight with CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel Weekly: one or twice a week, surprise surprise, I use The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution for my pores and to fade my dark spots. usually once a week, sometimes twice I use the AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Claywith acv a bit less frequently I use the alya skin. - Skin Pink Clay Mask, this one I feel is less effective than the Aztec clay mask but I still like it It might also be worth mentioning that I also have been taking 30mg of zinc which I heard helps with acne, and in the mornings I drink a mixture of acv, lemon juice, turmeric, and cayenne in hot water. I also used to juice celery but I don’t have a juicer right now so haven’t been doing that recently. I feel like that’s enough information but I love getting advice about skincare and talking about it so I’d be happy to give more info if anyone would like it😊😊

Night Routine for GLOWING Skin
After 3 months, I perfected my routine for: ✨GLOWING SKIN✨ My concerns: mild acne, moderate cystic acne, large pores, redness, uneven skin tone, prevent aging proactiv - MD Essentials System Value Set Step 1 Cleanse and Rinse proactiv - Deep Cleansing Face Wash This wash is gentile and leaves my face feeling smooth and soft. It has micro exfoliating beads that remove impurities and help keep skin clear. Step 2 Toner proactiv - Balancing Toner I love this toner because I don’t feel dry at all like I usually do with toners. Leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed. Step 3 Daily Sheet Mask and Eye Mask #Well Skincare - Radiance Daily Sheet Mask[products]#[FiveStars] This is a great sheet mask that I use to every other night. It really helps boost my skin's hydration levels and counteract the mild drying effects from the retinoid I use. JAYJUN - Lavender Tea Eye Gel Patch Jar JAYJUN - Green Tea Eye Gel Patch Jar Perfect eye masks! I alternate between both depending on the day. The green tea helps my under eye puffiness and the lavender for anti-aging. Step 4 Serum (formerly my spot treatment step) #Apostrophe - Azelaic Acid Formula (Azelaic Acid 15% + Niacinamide 4%)[products]#[FiveStars] Although Proactiv MD cleared up most of my breakouts and reduced pore size, I still struggled with dark spots and jawline cystic acne. I knew I needed something a little stronger that was also compatible when using retinoids. Apostrophe’s formula reduced my dark post-acne marks and evened my skin tone and texture. It also has anti-aging properties. Pea-size amount recommended all over face. Step 5 Retinoid proactiv - Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment This is an Rx-strength retinoid available OTC! Perfect for people who want to treat acne and prevent aging. It takes 8-12 weeks to see acne clearing results. However I noticed my skin clearing up in about 4 weeks and my only breakouts became hormonal, cystic jawline acne. I didn’t want to use a stronger retinoid due to drying side effects, which did take some time for my skin the get use to. I LOVE this formula specifically; the texture is lightweight and dries quickly. Step 6 Eye Cream and Spot Treatment proactiv - Eye Brightening Serum This eye cream is packed with peptides, vitamins C and E. ORIGINS - Super Spot Remover Acne Treatment Gel It has it name for a reason. Noticeable improvement in pimple size within 24 hours! Better than drugstore spot treatment. Step 7 Moisturizer proactiv - Green Tea Moisturizer Soothing and non greasy! My skin feels hydrated and soft after use. Won’t clog pores and packed with botanicals! Step 8 Face oil eve hansen - Blue Tansy Skin Repair Face Oil A great face oil for acne prone skin! Leaves my skin feeling soothed and moisturized. Especially good for complexion repair.

Morning Routine for GLOWING Skin
After 3 months, I perfected my routine for: ✨GLOWING SKIN✨ My concerns: mild acne, moderate cystic acne, large pores, redness, uneven skin tone, prevent aging proactiv - MD Essentials System Value Set I’m allergic to benzoyl peroxide, so I had to find alternatives for my acne prone skin. When Proactiv came out with a formula that was benzoyl peroxide free, I jumped on it! On this routine, I have seen huge improvements in my breakouts, pore size, skin tone and texture. Each step in the kit and other: Step 1 Cleanse and Rinse proactiv - Deep Cleansing Face Wash This wash is gentile and leaves my face feeling smooth and soft. It has micro exfoliating beads that remove impurities and help keep skin clear. Step 2 Toner proactiv - Balancing Toner After breaking up with witch hazel, there’s no going back! I love this toner because I don’t feel dry at all like I usually do with toners. Leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed. Step 3 Serum (formerly my spot treatment step) #Apostrophe - Azelaic Acid Formula (Azelaic Acid 15% + Niacinamide 4%)[products]#[FiveStars] Although Proactiv MD cleared up most of my breakouts and reduced pore size, I still struggled with dark spots and jawline cystic acne. I knew I needed something a little stronger that was also compatible when using retinoids (night routine.) Apostrophe’s formula reduced my dark post-acne marks and evened my skin tone and texture. It also has anti-aging properties. No need for spot treatment, it’s designed to be used all over face. Pea size amount recommended. Step 4 Serum timeless SKIN CARE - 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum BEST dupe for SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic Serum. Brightens skin after just a few weeks and helps with my uneven skin tone. Protects against environmental pollutants. 1-1.5 pumps for entire face. Step 5 Eye Cream proactiv - Eye Brightening Serum Eye creams can be scary, as the skin around the eyes is so sensitive! This eye cream is packed with peptides, vitamins C and E. While I noticed reduced puffiness, I hadn’t noticed an anti-aging difference until my boyfriend pointed out how “smooth it looks” under my eyes 😂 Step 6 Moisturizer/Step 7 SPF proactiv - Daily Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 🔑 Hydration is key when treating acne prone skin! I love that this moisturizer is lightweight, non-greasy and soft. Since it already has SPF 30, no need to use a separate sunscreen unless you will have prolonged direct sun exposure. Any skin type can use this gentle product. 1-1.5 pumps is all you need. Dries quickly. Step 8 Face Oil eve hansen - Golden Rosehip Face Oil I don’t use face oil everyday, more like 3-4x per week, when I feel like I need extra hydration. Helps reduce redness and locks in moisture! Has skin regenerative properties. Only 3-5 drops needed.

Proactive Horror Story
After I beat my raging Teenage acne it came back around in my early 20’s with a vengeance. I had an established skin routine and could not grasp exactly where the breakouts were coming from so I decided to try something new and it was the worst thing I could have ever done for my skin. A true skin nightmare aka Proactive. I always wanted to try proactive seeing it on the TV commercials growing up. When my mom noticed my breakouts she offered to order it for me to see how it would work on my skin. I immediately started using it and noticing some red flags. proactiv - Solution 3-Step Acne Treatment System My skin was severely dry. I tried the whole 3 step system which includes a cleanser toner and repairing treatment. This combination of products sucked every bit of moisture right out of my skin! My face constantly felt stripped and dehydrated. The products bleached my face towels. Yes, you read that right. Its no secret that proactive has some seriously harsh ingredients in them but I never knew Proactive could do this type of damage. I noticed that little areas of my face towel were being bleached but just thought it may be my college washer/dryer. When I returned home I used one of my mom’s blue face towels and after giving it a wash discovered it was the Proactive. It didn't clear my skin up. Instead of healing my skin the Proactive damaged it further. The product was so drying that I saw improvement with some of my zits but it didnt last long. After four weeks of continuous use my skin had enough. It was constantly red and angry. I'm begging you if you are considering proactive please DONT! I stopped using anything on my face for two weeks and saw improvement. From there I chose products like Innis Free and Kiehls that are focused on using nature and science to heal skin.

the most controversial acne treatment?🤔
proactiv is REALLY the world’s most controversial skincare. some people say it ruined their skin, others say it works miracles. it’s definitely not perfect! so, what has happened to my skin after 4 years of proactiv? when i was younger, i started getting really bad acne all over my face. no matter what i tried, it just got worse. so, my dad bought me proactiv. he had heard of it and said he thought it could work since it’s very strong. being honest, when i first startjng using it it did get rid of those pesky little pimples, but all my big, deep under the skin zits still remained. my acne scars remained too. i do think part of it was hormones, as i was going through puberty at the time, and i dont think there’s any real way to stop hormonal acne. i have had some major disappointments from it though. for example, i used to have many freckles that were very cute. but, because proactiv basically bleaches your skin, they all disappeared. also, it made my skin a lot lighter compared to the rest of my body, so i look like i have a spray tan up to my neck. im naturally pretty tan with olive skin because im part swedish, but now my face is ghostly white, while my body is still tan. but, proactiv has taught me some things. one thing it taught me is how important exfoliating once or twice a day is. it really helps to get off those pesky pimples and dead skin off your face! my least favorite thing about proactiv is the toner, as i have oily skin and it dries out my skin so bad that it just makes my skin produce even more oil. i dont use the toner any more. over the past year, adding more stuff to my routine is what has truly reduced my cystic acnes. i have been with proactiv so long that it’s hard to part ways, but i might part ways soon. we will see what happens!proactiv - Solution 3-Step Acne Treatment System

Acne Causes and What Makes It Worse!
Everyone deals with some form of acne in their life. Here I've put together a list of things and products to avoid when trying to get rid of acne: What to avoid doing: Using oil based makeup. Oils clog pores and cause buildup of dirt. Cleansing too often. Wash your face two or three times a day, anymore than that and your skin barrier will be damaged. That allows dirt to go into the skin. Using harsh products. Like washing too often, they damage the top layer of your skin. Not removing makeup at night. Always remember to wash your face before bed because the buildup of makeup can cause acne Eating too much dairy. Dairy has fat. Oil clogs pores. It's the same thing over and over again. Products that worsen acne: X OUT - Wash-In Treatment makes the skin burn and worsens acne, unlike its claim ACNE FREE - Sensitive Skin 24 HR Acne Clearing System doesn't get a good clean and leaves the face feeling oily proactiv - Renewing Cleanser makes acne sooo bad by drying out the skin and damaging it in the long run CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam is also drying. It's a foaming cleanser, and as it dries it strips off the skin barrier BURT’S BEES - Peach & Willow Bark Deep Pore Scrub has bits of ground up peach pits, which is what the 'exfoliation' is, but they actually cause scars and tears in your skin, which isn't just bad for acne, it's bad for your entire face. Those are my tips on what to avoid when you're having acne toubles. I hope this helped. Thanks for reading and remember to leave a cheer! ❤

proactiv cleanser
the product: proactiv - Renewing Cleanser the rating: 5/5, kind of a surprise! the ingredients: 2% salicylic acid the review: I was kind of shocked by how much i liked this cleanser. proactiv has an interesting reputation for being both a miracle product ans a scam. to me, it felt like a gentle and effective product that helped my hormonal acne clear without additional breakouts. the exfoliating beads are not too harsh, and the size means ill have facewash for months. the smell is a little odd, but makes sense given the nature of the ingredients. the price: i bought mine for $10 from marshalls, but it truly ranges

I am currently using these three products for my skin routine and I absolutely love them because my face does not break out! My biggest concern for my skin is finding a great product to get rid of dark spots. Any recommendations?👀proactiv - Skin Smoothing Exfoliator proactiv - Green Tea Moisturizer proactiv - Charcoal Pore Cleansing Brush

proactiv week 3
proactiv - MD Essentials System Value Set I’ve been struggling with acne for many years. Last year, my freshman year of college, I started developing very painful cysts. At one point, I even had five of them on my face (about the size of grapes). They would last about 2 weeks, but another would soon pop up in its place. 3 weeks ago I decided I’d had enough. They’re super painful and there’s nothing i’ve found that ever helped besides otc pain meds. I went into ulta and just bought this value kit and decided to try it. I’ve tried just about everything else in the book: with hazel, salicylic acid, charcoal, scrubs, etc. So far, I’ve had a lot less cysts - i’ve only had 2 since I started. The redness is a pain, but not physically at least lol. I’m going to use this for at least 8 weeks to really see how it’s working!! Side notes: I’m getting severe mask acne from working all day that I believe is contributing to my chin acne. The first picture is most recent, last picture being when I first bought the kit

Hi everyone! Sorry for updating you all pretty late! For the most part, I have been washing my regularly & let me say, I am liking the products so far. It’s clearing my face slowly but surely. You really have to be patient because everybody’s skin is different, so just be patient with your skin. I have noticed a difference from my last photos- so we do have some great improvement! Any questions? I’d love to answer them 🌱❤️ also if you’re new & just seeing this, check out my last post for comparison ☺️

Proactiv redness relief serum
Proactiv redness relief serum
This product it meant for reducing redness especially for acne prone skin. It dispenses a gel like serum on a metal roller ball at the tip of the product. I put it in the fridge which makes the product feel much more soothing and adds to the redness relief qualities. I wish The ability to reduce redness would last longer because I feel like it’s too temporary so I wouldn’t recommend this product if you are looking for something that will last. Overall it’s probably not worth it due to that problem. I would give this 2 stars.
