Only 3 months left on Roaccutane
Dermatologist appointment went well on Tuesday. She dropped me down to 10mg a day and said May will be my last month on Roaccutane! She said because my skin is so clear I could stop now, but I’d rather stick to the 12 month plan my GP suggested. I’ve been lucky not to get crazy side effects, and while there is still a chance of acne coming back I trust my derm’s plans for after stopping the medication. I’ll be getting prescribed a tretinoin moisturiser, and by November/December we will start laser treatment to help smooth out the deep scarring and hyperpigmentation. Also can’t wait to continue my tattoo journey once my skin is back to normal, I think that’s been the only truly hard part of this journey 😂 Simple - Hydrating Cleansing Oil Simple - Kind to Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream OLAY - Regenerist Retinol 24 Max Fragrance-Free Night Hydrating Moisturizer

Month 8 Roaccutane 20mg
Went MIA for a bit, life and work got chaotic. Recently started month 8 on Roaccutane. Skin has been pretty great, apart from the red bump on my cheek that appeared yesterday. It’s not sore or itchy and doesn’t seem to be pus filled so I’m not too worried. Going to my dermatologist this morning for a check up and will start a treatment plan for my scarring once my skin has healed after Roaccutane. Still haven’t worn any foundation or coverup since late august/early September. Have also switched to The Body Shop’s Ginger shampoo and conditioner which has completely transformed the health of my hair. Fall 2020 Skincare Routine
The first product in my skincare routine is the Simple Kind To Skin Micellar Cleansing Water. It smells a little weird, but works super well for me. It’s cooling and anti redness, as well as being water based, meaning it can be good for those with oily skin. Micellar water is made from purified water mixed with hydrating compounds and cleansing agents. The cleansing agent molecules join to form micelles, which are a chemical structure that helps pull oil and dirt from the skin. This micellar water is $6.29 from Target for a 6.7 oz bottle. I think it’s fairly cheap for a cleanser and works very well for the price. Simple - Micellar Cleansing Water Next, 2 times a week I use the Bliss Mighty Marshmallow Bright & Radiant Whipped Mask. When I first opened the container for this mask, I was hit with the distinct smell of strawberry jello. This is actually something I like about the mask. Other than the smell, which comes from the mask containing extracts and glycerin, it is also cooling, anti redness, creamy, super easy to apply, and leaves your skin very glowy after use. Now let’s talk ingredients. The key ingredients in this product are listed below: Marshmallow Root Extract: hydrating Vitamin C: helps even skin tone Olive Leaf Extract: limits water loss and plumps the skin Zinc PCA: reduces excess oil and anti redness Glycerin: hydrating One thing to note about this mask is it does contain some alcohol. This alcohol is okay in products though. (See my post on Alcohol) This product is available at Target for $16.39 for a 1.7 oz. bottle. It is a more pricey mask, but I personally think it does more for my skin than a $55 mask I used to buy. bliss - Mighty Marshmallow Mask Next I use the Trader Joes Rose Water Facial Toner. I will say this toner is pretty average. It’s hydrating, but has no outstanding ingredients or benefits. I don’t think I’ll repurchase it simply because it has fragrance, something I didn’t notice when I bought it. This toner can be found at Trader Joes for $3.99 for a 4 oz bottle. As you can see, it’s an incredibly cheap product, but not worth it. TRADER JOE'S - Rose Water Facial Toner My moisturizer on the other hand I love. It’s the Olay Complete Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15. It’s creamy, hydrating, a little oily, and leaves your skin super smooth and glowy. All of its active ingredients are sunscreens, and other than that it’s just a good, basic moisturizer that works really well for me. It can be found at Target for $11.39 for a 6 oz bottle. OLAY - Complete All Day UV Moisturizer SPF 15 Sensitive Skin And finally I use the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. This is a thick, creamy, hydrating moisturizing body lotion that I’m in love with! I use it twice a day and my skin is softer than its ever been. Highly recommend. CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin This lotion can be found at Target for $17.49 for a 12 oz bottle. My skincare
I have very sensitive skin, too sun, makeup, face wash, moisturizer, sunscreen., you name it! But here are some products that work for my skin. I’ve never had a horrible issue with my skin *knock on wood* but I did got through a few years of acne and flakiness on my skin. Off and on now I’ll get occasional breakouts but they will go away if I tend my skin correctly. Morning routine• Avène - Tolérance Extrême Cleansing Lotion I wet my face and then apply this cream and wipe away access with a cotton pad. Glossier. - Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum This product I have good times with and some bad, but overall it doesn’t irritate my skin and I don’t apply it where I have small scarring because it seems to clog the area. ORIGINS - GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff This one is a bit pricey but definitely worth it! The only eye cream I’ve used that actually works with brightening. I have extremely dark circles and this helps with it. Now I know I’m going to get attacked for not using a sunscreen but I haven’t found one yet that works. I’ve tried sooo many, ones directed toward sensitive skin and all have broke me out or triggered eczema. If you have suggestions let me know! ••••••••••••••• Nighttime routine• Simple - Micellar Cleansing Water I use this with a cotton pad all around my face and then follow with the Avène - Tolérance Extrême Cleansing Lotion Glossier. - Super Glow Vitamin C + Magnesium Serum this again and I’m finished! 🧡🧡☀️ Extra tlc for my skin! AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay this mixed apple cider vinegar became my best friend, I started this about two years ago and it has helped me so much. It can cause irritation but it doesn’t last very long, right after using I apply a generous amount of moisturizer. pixi - DetoxifEYE I will occasionally use these if I’m getting glammed up somewhere and they make such a difference!! •••••••••

Nighttime Daily Routine
I started this routine a few months ago and it has been working for my dry skin. I start with micellar water Simple - Kind to Skin Micellar Cleasing Water This helps remove makeup from my face before cleansing. It’s gentle and does not irritate my skin. Even when I don’t wear makeup I use it because of the tint in my sunscreen. Then I cleanse CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I use this product and it does not dry out my skin at all, it takes a while to get used to the lotion texture of it. This cleanser does not remove makeup well for me and that’s also why I use the micellar water. Then Niacinamide The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I use this because it works well with the retinol and helps reduce irritation that can be caused by the retinol. I am interested in trying a different Niacinamide because I read the percentage in this is higher than necessary Then retinol VERSED - PRESS RESTART I got this retinol, because I heard it was great for beginners. After I finish with this I am looking to try something new. I started using it only 1x/week and slowly increased. I now use 5x/week Then moisturizer CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream I chose a cream over the lotion because it is thicker and is better for the dryer winter months. I used to wake up with dry skin on my forehead and around my lips, but since using this it has really helped! JOSIE MARAN - 100% Pure Argan Oil I started using this oil when my face my feeling extra dry, but have recently added it to my routine every night because I love the way it makes my face feel. I feel like my skin is glowing when I wake up in the morning. I love the consistency, it’s not thick or heavy. It is pricey, but totally worth it for dry skin in the winter. 2x/week I exfoliate The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA I use this AHA on the days that I don’t use the retinol. Retinol and AHAs should not be used together I read that it was a good option for dry skin.

Learning to be patient!!
On November 1st I started my tretinoin journey and it has been one heck of a journey!! After finally getting through the worst of the purge pictured here, I can finally say I have no active acne! And I think the largest player here is actually SPIRONOLACTONE. My acne didn’t start until I had my Mirena IUD placed, so it makes sense that I needed to fix the hormones. Now to handle the scarring (patiently)... Routine: spironolactone 50 mg 1x a day Apostrophe - Spironolactone AM: Simple - Kind to Skin Micellar Cleasing Water or just a splash of water Spot treat with benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin cream ——> with no active acne I’m going to switch to cocokind - Vitamin c serum with sea grape caviar to help with the hyperpigmentation 🤞 indoor day: OLAY - Complete Lotion All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 15 for Sensitive Skin outdoor day: VANICREAM - Lite Lotion Krave - The Beet Shield PM: THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm Krave - Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser Tretinoin cream .1% (3-4 times a week) Hydroquinone (2x a week) CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream Moisture helpers: Krave - Great Barrier Relief LA ROCHE-POSAY - Cicaplast Baume B5 for Dry Skin Irritations

Skincare 101: Cleansing
Hey y’all! In today’s post were continuing one of my most popular series: Skincare 101. In today’s Skincare 101 we’re talking about cleansers. We’ll be talking about how to choose the right kind of cleanser, cleansing do’s and don’ts, and more. First off we’ll start with why you cleanse. Cleansing your skin is another term for washing it. Cleansing is important because it helps to remove the pollutants, bacteria, dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that collect on your skin during the day. By removing these, you prevent aging, breakouts, and dehydration on your on your skin. There are tons of different types of cleansers so I’ll go through them and explain who’s skin each type is best for. (If you don’t know you skin type I have a post on how to find out) First are foaming cleansers. Although foam and suds don’t mean a cleanser is more effective, it is a nice touch. These are great for non makeup wears who have oily or combination skin. This is because foaming cleansers can be slightly drying, so they’re not great for dry skin. Great foaming cleanser: CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin Next up are gel cleansers. Gel cleansers are great for removing light makeup and leaving your skin hydrated and feeling fresh. They are best for normal, combination, and oily skin types that are more sensitive or acne prone. Great gel cleanser:Simple - Micellar Gel Wash Our next type of cleanser is a cream cleanser. These are very hydrating and can remove most makeup, but for waterproof products you may need to use a separate makeup remover. These are beat for those with normal, dry, and sensitive skin types. Great cream cleanser:CLINIQUE - Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser Next are oil based cleansers. These are great for all skin types, even oily skin (see my post on double cleansing for more information). They are great for removing heavy makeup and dirt. They should never be used alone, only in a double cleanse. Great oil based cleanser:YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser Next up are cleansing waters and micellar waters. These are great for all skin types. For this type of cleanser, you don’t need to wash them off, but it's better if you do. Great micellar water:#Simple - micellar water[products]#[FourStars] Now these should only be used in an emergency: makeup wipes. They are technically a type of cleanser, but I have a whole post on my they’re bad. If you need to use them use these:Simple - Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes And finally, there are cleansing balms. These are great for removing makeup and for a double cleanse. They’re best for those with normal, very dry, and eczema sensitive skin. When buying cleansing balms, get ones without polyethylene. Polyethylene is a micro plastic used in balms to make the texture better. It’s a micro plastic that’s harmful to marine life. great polyethylene free cleansing balm:THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm Now that we have that out of the way, how often do you cleanse? If you have oily, combination, or normal skin types, twice a day in the morning and night is perfect. For those with sensitive and dry skin, it might be better to only cleanse once per day to make sure you don’t strip your skin of its precious little moisture. You also should always cleanse after working out. Now onto do’s and don’ts of cleansing. Starting with the don’ts. #1 don’t rub your face vigorously. Please be gentle with your skin! Harsh rubbing can make your skin irritated and red. #2 don’t wash your face with bar soap. Bar soap can be really stripping to the skin, so it’s best to stick with other cleansers. #3 don’t rush. Cleansers need a full 30 seconds on your skin to properly clean it. If you wash it off immediately, it won’t be as effective. #4 don’t stop at your chin. Your neck also gets a lot of buildup, so it’s best to cleanse and moisturize all the way down your next. And the do’s: #1 do wet your hands and face first. This allows your cleanser to activate for a better clean, as well as helping the product to glide across your skin better. Don’t do this with cleansing balms or oil based cleansers though because the water will repel the oil. #2 do use lukewarm water. Even though your pores don’t open and close, lukewarm water is still the best tempature for cleansing to avoid burning your skin or leading it to a cold shock. #3 do pat dry. Patting is the best way to dry your skin without irritating it. #4 do use a clean face towel. To dry your skin, your face towel should be used for nothing else, and should only be used a max of two times before swapping it out. This is because the towel gains bacteria that will be transferred to your skin the next time you use it. Alright ya’ll have made it to the end of Skincare 101: Cleansing! Please cheer for this post, comment below your favorite cleanser, and follow me for similar content! -Mae

Skincare on a Budget: Best Drugstore Cleansers
Now if you’re a student like me than budgeting can be difficult and finding affordable but effective products can prove to be a challenge. Now I’ve tried many products to help recommend various products and save you the time and money. —Dry Skin— Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gentle Cleansing Lotion This is definitely one of the better products of the hydro boost line from Neutrogena. Some of the other hydro boost products contain potentially irritating ingredients while this one doesn’t. -Easy to use and formula is soothing. -Fragrance-free. -Does a very good job of cleansing skin from dirt, oil, and non-waterproof makeup. -Isn’t effective for long-wear makeup, but a double cleanse system is always recommended for makeup wearers. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser This is a personal favorite cleanser for dry skin because of how effective it is. It’s amazing how well it cleanses skin without overly stripping it which I know is important for people with dry skin. -Fragrance free -It had glycerin which is a humectant, meaning it helps maintain moisture. -It also has niacinamide, ceramides, and gentle surfactants that won’t overly strip the skin. —Combination Skin— Simple - Micellar Gel Wash Now this is a recommendation for more combination to dry skin, but it is amazing for all skin types. Although the ingredient list is simple, it is very effective for cleansing. -Fragrance-free -Very affordable and accesible —Oily Skin— CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin This is an amazing product for oily skin and really lives up to its reputation. It’s really good for cleansing the skin of oil and dirt without leaving the skin feeling dry. -Fragrance-free and free of any other irritating ingredients. -Contains gentle cleansing agents and rinses without leaving any residue. -Includes niacinamide which is great for oil control and hyaluronic acid for plumping the skin. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cream Cleanser This product cleanses effectively without skin feeling overly stripped. -Fragrance-free. -Glycerin and coco glucoside, a very effective but gentle surfactant. I hope this helps you to find your affordable cleanser!

I always go back to this cleansing oil!
Tatcha’s cleansing oil has been a staple in my cabinet for over a year now! I fell in love while looking for something to replace the empty Simple - Hydrating Cleansing Oil and got hooked. At first touch I thought it was incredible, but I also thought it was just another oil cleanser. Since then, I’ve tried a few other brands and this one is still one of the best. For me it’s the smell 😩 the slip that keeps on slipping during a facial massage 💆🏽‍♀️ how it gets nice and milky when emulsified with water...I could go on. I wanted something I could still double cleanse with that both rinsed and wiped off well without leaving a thick I’m-in-7th-grade-using-olive-oil-as-a-daily-moisturizer look (been there, done that too many times). It’s definitely in the higher price range, but if you’re looking to splurge on a treat, this is totally worth it. PLUS every purchase from Tatcha helps out Room to Read, an organization supporting gender equality in education.

Great drugstore gentle facewash under $8
These two are my all time favorite product: VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser This works for very sensitive skin on all ages and skin types. I use it twice a day- morning and bedtime This face wash is not harsh and drying. It’s also fragrance free. I heard a lot of dermatologists use this on their own skin. I highly recommend purchase this in bulk for the best deal. Simple - Refreshing Facial Wash Gel This is even cheaper than the vanicream cleanser. It cleans without drying out my skin. Very gentle. However this product contains light scent ( not strong at all, it’s enjoyable) . I like the fact that this product is soap free, therefore does not make your skin dry. You can use it with washing tools such as clarisonic for the best result.

Effective Quick 3-Step Morning Routine
Skincare should be fuss-free, effective and simple! We all have those days where we just want to get out of bed, do a quick morning skincare routine and jump straight into the day’s activities. This is my fuss-free and effective skincare routine to prep my combination skin for the day ahead. A cleansed face is the foundation to great skin and I start the routine with Simple Kind to Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash. Readily available in drugstores, the clean and paraben-free cleanser is suitable for daily use to provide a gentle yet thorough cleanse while maintaining skin's natural barrier. I generally lean towards a gentle cleanser in the morning and this is perfect. The creamy formula is infused with Bisabolol, from chamomile, known to soothe and calm skin along with Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E. It works into a gentle lather which allows my skin to feel clean still. However, do note that the cleanser contains sodium laureth sulfate. Skip it if you tend to get clogged pores or acne breakouts easily. US$4.89 for 5oz Simple - Refreshing Facial Wash Gel Next, I follow-up with a moisturizer to balance my skin. For quick mornings, I use Clinque’s lightweight water-jelly face moisturizer to deliver hydration repair plus pollution protection. Suitable for all skin types, the unique jelly moisturizer is easy to apply all over the skin quickly without leaving a sticky residue. My skin feels smooth, strong and healthy with a pure, clean glow. US$29.50 for 125ml. Pictured here is a 15ml tube. CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly The last step of my quick routine is sunscreen! I cannot start my day without it. It is absolutely vital to apply sunscreen, even if you are staying indoors all day. My pick is Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen Lotion - SPF 55. The broad spectrum sunscreen lotion goes on easily and absorbs quickly for an invisible, weightless feel. It leaves zero ashy or white cast which I really like. The lightweight formula is oxybenzone-free and made with Helioplex, which provides superior sun protection against UVA/UVB rays. US$15.99 for 8oz Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 55

Why I can’t stop using this moisturizer ✨
Why I can’t stop using this moisturizer ✨
This is my favorite inexpensive night time moisturizer and here’s why it should be yours, too! Why it’s awesome: it is lightweight and easy on the skin while being very effective for dry skin. I have acne prone skin and I use this after my more drying products and it keeps me hydrated all night. it is not fragranced, but it still smells amazing! I still love a fresh scent in my skin care. this moisturizer is super inexpensive and I got it off amazon! it’s easy to include into your routine. works for all skin types! *I use at night only because it isn’t an spf moisturizer* Simple - Water Boost Gel Cream Comes in a small and larger size so you don’t have to commit to a full product if you’re just giving it a try! I paid about $6 on amazon.

Simple - Hydrating Light Moist
Simple - Hydrating Light Moisturizer Pouch Ok, so I couldn’t find the bottle of cherie, but it’s the same product, just in a pouch instead. This product is a lightweight cream. It is perfectly adequate. It did not irritate my skin, or do anything wrong, I just didn’t feel like it was very effective and it didn’t make me feel like I was treating myself. It was a little blah. If your not into skincare, or just want something inexpensive that won’t irritate, this is a good product for you, just wasn’t for me.

5/5 Stars! Ingredients: Zinc and Witch Hazel (BHA) Benefits: Zinc absorbs oil and Witch hazel dissolves it for clearer skin and a less oily complexion. I always take a full minute with my face cleansing in the morning so all the sebum is dissolved and washed away Results: I love this cleaner because its a gentle exfoliant wash with active ingredients that work. I have oily acne prone skin, and this helps to keep me clear and less oily. it takes makeup off really well and works both day and night Price: This was $4 for me at Marshalls... how could you not buy it at that price? and with such amazing benefits. Its great!

A very Simple Soluntion
A very Simple Soluntion
This Simple product is a triple action face wash. It gives you visibly clearer skin in just a matter of a bit of time. The active ingredients in it are: zinc and chamomile. The truth is : it is really simple! After every use, I feel like you can see the real difference between before and after. I’ve been using it for a few days and most of my acne has gone away. I absolutely love it and the fact that the brand is so cheap is amazing! I give this 5 stars!!!!
