How I fully transitioned and grew my 4b/c hair
My hair journey is something that means a lot to me. As a child I was always known to have hair so long it reached the middle of my back. Whether my hair was curly, straight, braided or in twists it generated a lot of talk. That’s why when I went natural and lost basically all the length that I somewhat had it was such a shocker. I was natural as a child before I began to get a relaxer at around 3rd grade. It was needed since my mom had just gotten over breast cancer for a second time and my long thick curls were too much for her to take care of. My hair still retained its length, even as I went into middle school but once I hit 9th grade I’d realized something. My length was gone. Now I will say SOOOO many hair mistakes were made when I began doing my own hair in high school. I put too much heat to it, I manipulated it too much, and I didn’t care about my strands enough. I honestly don’t know at what point I realized I wanted to go natural but at the end of my sophomore year I did. My mother who is a very traditional black woman when it comes to hair made it crystal clear there was no way in hell I was getting the big chop I wanted. Because of this I was forced to transition over. I vividly remember the first product I used as a natural being SheaMoisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie this served a good purpose since my number one goal at the time was curl definition. I don’t mind that as much anymore because I have come to terms with the fact that my hair type is NOT loose curls. Since quarantine that goal has changed. My goal I’m March went from “how do I get my hair to curl” to “okay how do I retain length and keep my hair healthy” and I knew my answer. Braids. I’ll be the one to say I absolutely LOVE braids but I HATE getting them professionally done for so many reasons. The main one being when my scalp gets too dirty the braids gotta go. That is a problem when braids cost 100 and I’m over them in a month 🗿. This pushed me to doing my own braids minus the braiding hair. Every two-three weeks I take my braids out, condition my dry dirty hair, wash the conditioner out, wash my hair, deep condition, and prep my hair for braids. Sometimes I blow dry my hair before I braid it (because I want the length😗) and sometimes I just braid my coily hair as is. This has helped keep my hair healthy and grow it all quarantine. These are the products I’ve used: AFRiCAN PRIDE - Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Leave-in Conditioner AFRiCAN PRIDE - Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Growth Oil DOO GRO - Mega Thick Hair Oil ECOCO - Eco Style Argan Oil Gel ECOCO - Eco Style Professional Styling Gel Black Castor & Flaxseed Oil cantu - Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioning Repair aussie - Miracle Moist 3 Minute Miracle with Avocado for Dry Hair Repair Maui MOISTURE - Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask Aunt Jackie's - Don't Shrink Elongating Curling Gel

My 4b/c routine + info on my hair journey
After a year and some change of being natural it’s taken a while to get my confidence up regarding it. There’s a lot of things they don’t tell you about first going natural. They don’t tell you that society’s acceptance and definition of curly hair is people who’s hair is 3a,b and c and the acceptance ends once it gets to coily hair. They also don’t tell you how HIGH MAINTENANCE caring for coily hair is 😭it’s honestly like caring for an entire person. The list about info that’s not discussed before deciding to go natural is probably 10 feet long, but with patience, love and lots of research, caring for natural hair can be really beneficial and can boost your confidence. My regular washday routine I have 4 key steps in my hair routine: preshampoo, shampoo, deep condition and style When I preshampoo I like to use DOO GRO - Mega Thick Hair Oil AFRiCAN PRIDE - Hair Growth Oil and other type oils. Sometimes I may heat them up for better penetration of my strands but I usually like to apply these to my scalp and strands and massage it in really good. After my preshampoo I shampoo. This is when I use my shea moisture low porosity shampoo or a really neat hair mask that many of you have heard about which is the AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay the shampoo is honestly a holy grail find for me because it tailors to cleaning my hair without adding unnecessary protein because low porosity hair can be really protein sensitive. The hair mask is also AMAZING when it comes to defining your curl pattern like ;-; it’s so great. When I shampoo I usually shampoo once rinse and then go back in shampoo again and rinse. Deep conditioning is essential for me. I love using different deep conditioners and hair masks to see how they impact my hair. So far my two favorites have been the Maui MOISTURE - Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask and the aussie - 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioner these are my favorites because they have a really great price point (the Aussie one is like 3 bucks HELLOOOO), they smell delicious and they have made my hair really hydrated and soft when I have used them. I usually keep my hair mask in overnight and wash it out the next day. Finally my styling has become very different since quarantine has begun. Since we’ve been in quarantine and I no longer physically go to school I’ve had my hair braided down since my state first locked down in like March. There have been maybe three weeks total in the last 5 months where my hair has been out because it’s really simple and easy to take care of my hair. My mom usually braids my hair down and I keep my braids for two weeks (sometimes three/four) and after that I wash my hair and get her to braid it down again. I don’t use braiding hair in my braids because I feel like it’s not necessary and I don’t mind having little chin length braids 😭

Amazing hair products for my medium-dense hair!
Many people think that things with characteristics lie right in the middle is perfect, not too big nor small, or being thick or thin. There are actually a lot of issues as well for those with ‘middle’ stuff, like middle-age crisis and medium-density hair problems. Since we are talking about skincare and haircare stuff here, I really wanna share these two cute products from Maui Moisture, which is a brand I just fell in love with and especially friendly to my medium density hair.    The Maui Moisture Shea butter shampoo and conditioner are two products I received from a gift package from a pharmacy and they target for dry and damaged hair. It contains coconut oil, macadamia oil and shea butter to nourish and repair the hair. Personally, I don’t dye my hair often so I assume I just have thick hair, in medium-density, sometimes oily on the roots. There are also some splits near the hair tips, another problem I worry about.    I tried this shea butter shampoo and conditioner in the same shower and I have to say they are really different from the ones I am using. These Maui Moisture products smell so good! I can sense the blend of coconut and even some sweet tropical fruits in it to provide a balmy feeling. The lather is quite thick and that’s another aspect I pay attention to when using hair products. Still in the regular step, shampoo goes first and then conditioner but I leave on this replenishing conditioner on my hair for around 5 minutes, bit longer than usual. They are easy to put on and wash off and after blow-drying, I touch my hair and it feels so smooth and great, and I haven’t used my regular hair oil yet, which is astonishing.    These two cuties work so well on my hair and I did not expect that at all! I have to say I gotta explore more on this brand and I think these are worth trying with their budget-friendly price. Hope this could help you out!

Curly girl summer routine!
4 years ago I decided to go au natural when it came to My hair. No more straightening, heat damaging, harsh washes. I had had enough of the 3-4 wash days a week and the excessive work for straight hair. Over a long period and a lot of product fails I found a nice routine that was quicker and still gave me great results. After washing with my yogurt and Manuka honey Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner, I get out and wrap my hair with a turbin and do my skin care. One that was done, my hair was still wet but not dripping. Shea moisture yogurt and manuka honey leave in I really like the smell of this, it’s mild but gives me tropical vibes. I don’t spray this directly on my hair, I spray about 6 squirts in my hand and start at my mids and ends and move up, I like this for not only some slip but it leave my hair nice and soft until my next wash day. * for super dry days* I will add 2 or so squirts of the Maui moisture weightless coconut oil and it helps moisture my mids and ends. Verb styling cream One huge thing I noticed is that it has a non scented scent to it. There doesn’t seem to be a fragrance to this but you can still smell it... it’s weird. Regardless, I really like this styling cream, very rich but not greasy and doesn’t leave a residue. Yay for no residue! I like to do a little over all then section and add a bit more, it’s all based on how my hair feels. I also like to brush my hair after applying to distribute evenly. Mielle babassu curl mousse Smells like citrus, it’s very light, this is not for long time hold. I have looser curls so I try to stay away from heavy products that weigh down my locks. I use about 6 pumps for my entire head, I scrunch it in really nice then plop. I like to plop for no more then 30 mins or I feel super flat on top. Once I take my plopping shirt off, I air dry and pick the roots and boom I have a fixed style for a couple days. I should also mention I have a sleep cap, and yes I use it every night. At first my husband thought it was hilarious, but once he realized my hair would t choke him at night the was on board. Going curly has been a journey, learning from other mistakes and many, many of my own, watching and following other curly girls. I hope this could help a newbie or anyone who needs a chance.

A little goes a long way....
So this I’m on the fence on, it’s not weightless, the first time I used this I looked like a greasy rat! I treated, styled and defused and spritzed this on afterwards to minimize frizz and give me shine and my god, I literally had to wash hair again. After that I realized that if I wanted to use this it wasn’t going to be in my finishing, it would have to be in my leave in stage. So the next time I washed I mixed 2 small spritzes into my leave in and man, it helped with my fly aways, my ends felt great, but my roots weren’t greasy. The smell is fantastic if you like coconut, which I do, but it doesn’t linger. The consistency is light weight on the skin but it doesn’t soak in very quick which is something I don’t like. If you are going to use this be aware that you need very little when you have normal to fine hair. I have B3 C1 ( I think) curl pattern so curly but not coily. , finer stands but normal porosity and on the drier side, being curly drier is not a surprise.

Top HAIR PRODUCTS of 2020!!
Hey guys! This is the 3rd post for my Best and Worst of Beauty 2020 series! You guys love these posts, so let’s get right on into my top pick for haircare! Once again my disclaimer that these are my opinions, experiences, and data I’ve found. If your opinion or data differs, that’s okay, this is just for fun. Shampoos and Conditioners: 🧴 🚿 I have two picks for this category, one expensive, one cheap. For expensive I choose function of beauty - Custom shampoo + conditioner , which is my current shampoo. Function of Beauty has you take a hair quiz and choose hair goals, then they formulate a custom product based on your hair needs. It costs $49.99 for one 16 fl oz bottle of conditioner and one 16 fl oz bottle of shampoo. The price drops to $39.99 for a 8 fl oz version. Since the formulation depends on your hair, I’ll just share the link to see what may be in yours. If you go to https://www.functionofbeauty.com/ingredients/ it shows the ingredients added per hair goal. My goals are to hydrate, lengthen, anti-frizz, shine, and soothe my scalp. My hair used to be very dry and frizzy, and it hasn’t been since using Function of Beauty. My hair has grown way fast than it ever has, 6 inches since quarantine began! My scalp is also less itchy. A splurge, but worth it. If that’s too expensive you can get the ogx - Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen Shampoo and ogx - Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Conditioner . They’re sold separately for $7.99 each for a 13 fl oz bottle at Ulta. They make your hair very soft, as well as nourished. Scalp Scrub: 👩🧼 My pick is definitely theOUAI - Scalp & Body Scrub . It has fine sugar crystals that remove dandruff buildup, or dead skin cells on your skin. This one is pricey, at $38.00 for a 8.8 fl oz tub at Sephora. It has been on Allure’s Best of Haircare list for 3 years straight, and has glycerin and hydrating oils. Hair treatments: ✨🧴 The davines - All In One Milk Lotion is technically a men’s product, but I (a female) LOVE it! You can get a 4.56 fl oz spray bottle for $35.00 on Amazon. It makes your hair shiney, smooth, and detangles it. My only complaint is it has a very strong scent. My second pick is the Maui MOISTURE - Lightweight Hydration + Hibiscus Water Quenching Detangler . It’s much more affordable at $8.99 for a 4.2 fl oz bottle. This is a basic shine inducing detangler that works great with a comb. Hair Mousse: 🛁🧴 The LAYRITE - Natural Matte Cream is another man oriented product that’s great for everyone. For men, it’s mostly used to wax/gel their hair into place. I like it for crazy hair day or Halloween, but for people with a lot of baby hairs or pixie cuts, this is a must. Those are my picks! Thanks for reading this post! Cheer this post so more people can learn about these amazing products, and follow me to see the rest of the series! -Mae

Well of course I had to buy the conditioner to go along with the shampoo! Unlike the shampoo, however, Maui MOISTURE - Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Conditioner does not have too strong or a scent. The texture is similar to the shampoo, just slightly thicker like most conditioners. After using it for two months, it’s done what it claimed it would do - quench my thirsty curls! My curls go rampant when they get dry - and out here they get desert dry. Maui’s dose of tropical ingredients such as coconut oil has visibly nourished my hair. I wouldn’t repurchase it, but that’s because I’m one for new things. If it’s you want to get some control over your curls and turn them into silky locks, this conditioner is a decent and affordable investment.

This Maui moisture moisturisin
This Maui moisture moisturising butter works as a hair mask and as a leave in! (I’ve gotten a perm in the past, also colour my hair occasionally and don’t cut my hair often enough, so my hair really needs both...) The reason I bought it was the delicious scent though 🙈 all their other lines smell great too, but this was my favourite. Big plus: Available in drug stores!

Maui MOISTURE - Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Conditioner I’ve tried several hair conditioners before from different brands. But this has to be one of my favorite organic clean ones and of course silicone free. For reference I have thick coarse frizzy hair to my bra strap . I've noticed that a little goes a long way, if you put too much on then your hair might have a film feeling too it but put the correct amount on and you wont have that. Its nice and light weight... I love the smell, its pleasant and not overwhelming. Im pleased with how much its helped my hair and I will continue to use this after I run out!

Maui MOISTURE - Thicken & Restore Bamboo Fibers Shampoo 3 stars just because I’m picky; I think on average this would be a fair 4. The story goes that something went wrong with my shower plumbing, leaving my options for temperature hot and scalding hot. As a result, my already damaged hair grew even more brittle, dry, and frizzy. I needed to do something about it. My hair’s got tastes for tropical ingredients so I thought Maui would be a smart buy. Turns out, it is! And budget friendly too! Opening up, it’s your typical gloppy, glossy shampoo. The scent is a little strong and artificial at first (generic tropical smell, no distinguishable ingredient) so I learned along the way to not apply too much, so I do warn those who are sensitive with scents. That aside, it does what it says - restoring hair by moisturizing. Now, because my shower temp situation didn’t change, my hair wasn’t completely revived - but I did see a difference. My curls were more defined and together, a tad bit less bedhead frizz. I’d totally recommend it as an alternative to your regular grocery mart shampoos.
