Caring for my wavy hair 💗
Not too long ago, I really didn’t know that I had wavy hair. Like many people I had spent years brushing it and straightening it and not giving it a second thought. Finally, my laziness got the best of me and I decided to stop heat-styling my hair. I think the first step of caring for wavy hair is finding the right stylist. Around the time I decided to stop heat styling my hair I went to a new hair stylist who absolutely transformed my hair. He cut in long layers and took out a lot of the bulk in my hair, and I really think these two things were key to getting my waves to hold up. Having more layers definitely helps enhance the waves and keeps them from falling out. So here is my current styling routine! Wash and condition hair: honestly I am not super picky at all about what shampoo or conditioner I use, but I try to get ones that have less sulfates and silicones in them. If anyone has any great recs for shampoo/conditioner for wavy hair, feel free to drop them below!! Post-shower: I know the Curly Girl Method has you apply your products when your hair is still soaking wet, but I can’t stand standing there, freezing cold with my hair dripping everywhere. So I wrap my hair loosely in a t-shirt as soon as I get out of the shower while I dry off and apply my skincare. Then once I am dressed, I take my hair down and apply my products. Leave-in conditioner: I have talked about this before, but this is the most amazing leave-in conditioner I’ve ever used. sexyhair - Healthy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner Smells amazing and leaves my waves so amazingly soft. I apply this all over my midshaft-ends and lightly rub it in. Wave spray: Again, I’ve talked about this product before but it is seriously my holy grail hair product. OUAI - OUAI Wave Spray I spray this all over my head, seriously you cannot use too much of this stuff. (Side note: I don’t recommend spraying this on dry hair because it can get sticky, but if your hair is wet you are 100% good to go.) Once I have applied this, I flip my head upside down and SCRUNCH. Depending on what I’m doing, sometimes I will plop my hair with the towel again just to keep the wet hair off my shoulders, otherwise I just let it air dry. And voila! I love being at a place where I really just love how my hair looks daily, and I never have to spend more than 10 minutes styling it!

Party hairstyles: beachy waves 🌊🌞
I haven’t been to a party since having short hair (thanks rona), but this is how I would style my hair if I were to go to one! I start with air dryed hair (because I am LAZY), but I think blow drying your hair beforehand would give you beautiful volume with this style! I applied sexyhair - Healthy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner on wet hair and let it air dry. Then I sectioned my hair with a clip and applied AVEDA - Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother heat protectant to the first layer. I am using a 1 inch curling iron. I skip using the clip and just wrap my hair around the barrel! I have had this curling iron forever, and will probably invest in a nicer one soon but for now this one gets the job done! Then I just take small sections of hair and wrap them around the curling iron! I like to leave out the last 0.5-1 inch to give me a more natural curl. I also hold the curl in my hand and let it cool to help prolong the curl! After letting down and curling the rest of my hair, I let my whole head set for 10-15 minutes. I don’t like to use hair spray because I feel like it makes my hair crunchy and frizzy, so at this point I am done applying products! After 10-15 minutes I tip my head upside down and shake out the curls at my roots with my fingers. I love a hairstyle with a lot of volume for a night out, so this is going to be my go-to hairstyle whenever we are allowed out of the house again :)

Some Drugstore Hair All Stars ✨
Are you like me? Ballin’ on a budget? UGH. The struggle is real when all you see every day are stellar reviews of luxury products. Like, I DO NOT have that kind of money. Period. These are 2 of my favorite drugstore hair call-outs for my dry, thick, curly hair: Dove Dry Shampoo. I wasn’t sure of this at first. I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos and some of them just work DIFFERENT on thick hair. This one doesn’t leave me choking on a thick scent or fragrance (thank god) and is super easy to massage out. It does such a good job in my thick hair of instantly taking it from oily to voluminous. This is available at most stores like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc. and retails for $5. Dove - Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo my only compliant is that it is aerosol which is bad for the environment. It’s honestly a good dupe for the Living Proof PHD dry shampoo. Healthy Sexy Hair “Love Oil.” This is seriously one of the best hair oils out there, at least for my hair type. It works perfectly in my ends when diluted with water, since I have naturally curly hair and water revitalizes my curls, while oils traditionally weigh them down. This oil is perfect. It’s primarily argan oil but it’s diluted itself within the formula which makes it my TRUE love oil (haha see what I did there). A mini size of this retails for $9 at Ulta and while it might not be Suave pricing, a little bit goes a long way. I would call out what this is duping but tbh this is the only oil I have tried like this and you’re not selling me on anything else!! sexyhair - Healthy Moisturizing Love Oil 5/5 What are your favorite drugstore hair products? #CheriePartner

BEST OF: Hair Oil 🏆
My awards for hair oil... My hair is usually a 2C-3A curl pattern but when it is bleached or colored it leans 2B. It’s also pretty thick... I have a LOT of hair! Because it is currently bleached/damaged/dry, I constantly have a hair oil on hand depending on what I need—all 3 of these are my go-to’s depending on how frizzy/dry I am. 🏆 The best “fix this now!!” oil sexyhair - Healthy Moisturizing Love Oil This oil and I have a relationship stronger than my engagement...and I’m getting married this year!! I seriously this is a great thick oil that doesn’t weigh down your curls too much and won’t rub off on your face or clothes. I usually put a pump of this in my damp palm and run it through my hair starting with my ends. At first, it will be heavy but within 5-10 mins you look good as new girlfriend ❤️ HSH is such an affordable brand and you can try out this mini for yourself for $9 at Ulta!! I take it everywhere I go! 🏆 The best scalp + hair oil The Ordinary - 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil This oil gets an honorable mention because I put it in my hair and scalp the night before I wash to nourish my scalp and make sure I don’t over-dry my scalp with my treatments I use on it on wash day. It’s also a good stand in for the love oil when I’m out of that! It’s thicker like the love oil but my hair eats it UP! It’s $9.90 at Ulta, you can’t go wrong! 🏆 The best lightweight “everyday” oil ogx - Nourishing Coconut Oil Weightless Hydrating Oil Mist Before we begin: this stuff has a stale smell to it. It’s like stale but coy. It’s weird. HOWEVER. This is the only oil I can use on my hair that doesn’t leave my hands feeling drenched in oil afterwards!! It’s SO lightweight and absorbs very fast. However I believe if you had thicker or curlier hair than me, it would take half of a bottle to get enough shine from this stuff. I also love that the packaging includes a spray so I can disperse it more evenly through my ends when I need it. It is marketed as weightless and honestly feels weightless...I love it. And the coconut oil ingredient does not cause breakouts in my face. Woo!! It’s also $9 at Ulta (see a pattern here?) so I highly recommend! Do you have any favorites that I haven’t listed here? And recommendations?

Leave-In Conditioner is a MUST
Leave-In Conditioner is a MUST for me! I still use a regular moisturizer but adding a little leave-in first really helps my hair retain moisture + makes detangling a breeze 👏🏾 I received the Long Sexy Hair Luxe Detangler Leave-In Conditioner from Sexyhair & I'm soo excited to try it! I don't detangle my hair as often as I should 🤦🏾‍♀️ So I need ALL the extra help I can get 🤣 Plus I love the fact that it's formulated with biotin, too! Biotin is great for stimulating growth & healthier, stronger hair so I'm curious to see how it works out. Anyone else a leave-in junkie? 👀
